The tech's and front desk are great but I have had multiple issues there. I have taken 2 of my dogs there which were rescue. One of them was given a vaccine 2x. And the other one he missed a few things. She has a hernia on her stomach which I asked him about and he said it was nothing, and her knees joints are separated. Richmond Animal Hospital has been a godsend! Dr Mandola and his staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, friendly and quick to help. And, as they are a full service hospital, they are very adept at handling just about any problem that walks through their doors! This means a lot. It was about 3 years ago that I had rescued a cat with severe facial trauma. I live in the Katy/West Houston area, and called on a dozen different animal hospitals,in my area including some known for treatment of acute ailments and was turned away by all. I then reached out to Richmond Animal Hospital, and cannot express my relief when Dr Mandola personally took my phone call and told me to bring my cat in for evaluation and care. We have since made Richmond Animal Hospital our go to for care of our furry family members. The level of care they provide makes the drive from the Katy/West Houston more than worth while. I have been going here for a few years because it is affordable for my dog's vaccinations.  They do not offer appointments so it is on a first come first serve basis. I do the drop off appointment to avoid waiting.  It is an older place and it does smell.This past visit was actually the most pleasant visit I have had there. First, this place closes at 5:30 (not 7 p.m.) because that's when the vet leaves. When I walked in, a very old lady "greeted" me. She asked me what I needed and I told her an exam for my cat. She said the doctor was leaving and wasn't taking anymore patients but that she'd ask. I said, "So you guys don't close at 7." She said no and that they can't change the website or the hours on the door. What kind of fuckery is this?! It cannot be that motherfucking hard to change some goddamn numbers on a webpage and door. But apparently at RAH, it is impossible. Holy fuck! Second, I don't mind that this place isn't modern-looking. I could care less how a practice looks. One of the best practices I've been to was run by one doctor, a handful of techs, had two exam rooms, and was very small. AMAZING! I thought this place would be like that; unfortunately, it is nowhere near.The vet who saw us, acted SCARED of the cat I brought in. Granted, he was hissing and growling but YOU ARE A VETERINARIAN! Fucking own it! The vet didn't even listen to the cat's heart, or palpate - NOTHING! But I sure was charged for a FULL EXAM ($30)! I asked him to check the ears and he took two q-tips and dipped it in the cat's ears then looked at me. lol Ok, thanks a lot. I've been to two Indian vets now and they both SUCKED! Both did very half-assed exams on the two cats and I was just left unimpressed. Like, why the fuck would you go to vet school if you don't like cats?? Never again.I drove here because it was the closest and least expensive (my total visit came out to $103; they charged me for the exam even though on their old ass website says, "Free new pet exam." I've been bringing my cat here for a few months since I got him in January. I'm not usually one to leave reviews but this place deserves one. I brought my cat in this morning to get neutered and I picked him up this afternoon. I let him out of his carrier when I got home and I noticed that part of his ear was missing. It looks like someone cut it with scissors!! I called them and they hung up on me the first time trying to put me on hold. I called again and they said that the morning vet had made a mistake and mixed up my cat with another cat that was feral and cut his ear. How do you mix up my cat with another cat?! MY CAT IS NOT FERAL. They didn't seem sincere or really seem to care that much. I asked to speak with the vet that made this stupid mistake and they said I have to wait until tomorrow morning when he gets in. I'm not sure what they're going to do to compensate me but what can you really do to compensate cutting off part of my cat's ear? If this happened at an actual hospital with a person instead of a pet it would not be overlooked. I will update this review tomorrow after I speak with the vet that did this. Read Less

Pros, they are cheap. Had my cats neutered and spayed there. Cons, they are cheap because they do not use anesthesia on the animals. They just pacify them. If you want you animals taken care of properly you will pay more. If you want the job done within your budget just understand what that means. Read Less

Very accommodating when after five months we were reunited with our puppy who'd been through some rough times out on her own. Not only was it close to closing time it was a Sunday afternoon and the Doctor took so much time and had so much patience with our baby that it brought me to tears. My personal knowledge of Dr Mandola he is very good listener this month I called several times to discuss a matter concerning my two dogs . They needed dental care and I was very concerned about how much it would cost. I was on the hunt for a new vet hospital for my kittens, since the one I was going to was so pricey and inconsistent between all the different doctors and techs. I was recommended to Richmond Animal Hospital by my mom's friend. It is a bit of a drive from my house but it is well worth it! Their prices are super competitive and the techs/receptionists very friendly. The staff answered all my questions and are very informative. I took my dog 2 days ago to get neuterd at this hospital and as they were doing the surgery his heart started to fail and died but my dog was a really strong dog and was about 2 years old he did not have no heart problems that we were aware about the doctors said this was very rare for a dog to die to this surgery so what I think happen was they overdose him with anesthesia and never woke up.. This was my first time at this hospital and also will be my last I don't recommend this animal hospital at all I am very disappointed.. My dog was very young and still had more years to live he didn't deserved to die like this.. Read Less

Absolutely wonderful experience here! I found a stray cat that I needed to get neutered and vaccinated with a price that wouldn't break my bank, and worked along with my very busy work schedule. I called one morning on my way to work, the lady gave me all the details I needed about when I needed to bring the cat in, and how much it would cost. She was sweet and nice on the phone, and made me feel at ease. I love that they are a walk in facility, that is open early, once again, really helps the people who have 9am-6pm work hours, and I work an hour away, so I need to be able to drop animals off before 8am. So the next morning I took the cat in, and everyone was so nice and helpful. I got to meet the vet who would be doing the procedure on my cat, his name was Dr. Mandola, and he was amazing. He was personable, had a big smile, and made you feel completely at ease. He did a quick inspection of my cat, and what I really appreciated was that I had a few questions about testing for viruses (which would have been an added cost, but most vets will see this as another way to get some more money) and Dr. Mandola gave me the facts, said that at this point the kitten vaccinations were really what were necessary, and if symptoms start to arise we will look into that later, but based on what he was seeing in my cat, there was no need. It was just really nice to have a vet give me the option to do a test, and not try and scare tactic me into it or make me feel bad for not wanting to do it for financial reasons. Overall, this vet clinic was amazing, and I am so grateful that they are affordable, clean, genuine, and have a wonderfully caring attitude toward both their human and animal clients. We boarded our dog over Thanksgiving 2011 holiday for 3 days. After getting home from picking her up we noticed that she was infested with ticks. We have pulled 300+ off of her within 3 days. We have given her 4 baths and still can't get rid of them all. We finally called Richmond Animal Hospital to notify them of their infestation and asked for our dog to be dipped and treated for any infection due to all the bites. Took my dog in to have some stones removed. Not only did they miss two, when I kept calling back to let them know she was not eating or drinking they kept telling me to give it more time. They finally asked me to bring her in (after I insisted) and treated her (I think) with an IV and gave her back. The dog became progressively worse and I ended up rushing her to another Vet for emergency help (very expensive). These poeple (Joe Mandola) should not be in business. Read Less

Fluffy had surgery on February 3, 2008 at Richmond Animal Hospital for Bladder Stones. A simple procedure turned in to a nightmare for both me and my family. Not only did they miss some of the stones, when brought back on February 6 , 2009 Dr. Mandola took her for most of the day and stated he would make her better knowing full well she had not ate at all since the surgery and was getting progressively worse. On February 8, 2009 Fluffy Fountain was brought in to ABC Animal Clinic. Fluffywas lifeless, unable to walk on her own,heart rate slow, cardiovascular was dehydrated, unable to palpate due to abdominal distention, not urinating, temperature 97.3, was barelyresponsive. The radiology report showed a stone in the bladder and urethra. Doctor stated we could put on IV but were no guarantees she would make it through the night.Fluffy was stabilized and had successful surgery on February 10 and after several dayswas back on her feet. I left my Black Lab and Golden Retriever here while on Spring Break and when I first checked thhem in, I asked for the staff to show me the back area. they said NO because it wasn't ""clean"" yet. I sensed their hesitation like hiding something. Unfortunately, I had no time to find another place and left them there with a broken heart. When I returned to pick them up 3 days later, I noticed my dogs' urine was extremely orange, I had never seen it like that and when I got home they were super thirsty. That tells me they were not given enough water so I am reporting this not sure to whom yet but will find out. I DO NOT recomend this place. I have boarded my dogs before moving to TX and I was always allowed to check the boarding area. I feel super GUILTY I made them suffer by leaving them there. Read Less
