So disappointed. I have been taking my dogs to this vet for YEARS. I called early on Saturday morning because my dog was having a medical emergency- some kind of seizure. They refused to fit us in for an appointment. They didn't even ask me my dogs name, age, or breed. Just told me they don't have any openings. They were completely unsympathetic and apathetic about the whole situation. When I pressed them - my dogs eyes were shaking and she couldn't walk- they gave me the number to some incredibly expensive 24hour emergency vet. This place used to be great. Staff was very helpful, Dr was great and thorough. The exam was $1 because we were new clients, we had several procedures, 2 consecutive visits and 2 prescriptions for our dog and paid about $250. My baby kitty has a terrible upper respiratory infection and he was able to squeeze him in the morning. Otherwise, if I had waited until his appointment at a different place, he would have waited 5 days to be seen. I cancelled there and went to see Dr. Drake. The ladies in the office were so sweet and kind. Dr. Drake took care of my baby and he's on antibiotics now. I'm so glad I gave them a call. The pricing was very reasonable also. After being helped by the assistant, I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for the actual vet to show up. After the vet examined my dog, he seemed confused as to what was wrong with him. He listed various possibilities and recommended we do x-rays, blood tests, and a low protein diet. Apparently, they didn't really know what was wrong based off the x-rays. $330 later, we got a call from the vet saying that he MAY have low blood sugar but weren't sure because the equipment wasn't working properly. It seemed like they were completely clueless and didn't know how to proceed. We were literally there all day and left with no solution and pretty much threw money down the drain. We didn't return and took my dog to a different vet where they diagnosed and resolved the problem. Worst experience I've ever had and wouldn't go back to this place nor will I recommend even if it was the last vet on earth. Read Less

Words can't even describe the care provided to my 11 year blue heeler.  Dr. Drake and his staff provided us with professional, caring, and devoted treatment.  My dog was misdiagnosed by a young lady vet that is working at McLeod Animal Clinic.  She was treating him for a fungus infection and after nearly 6 weeks of steadily going down hill, I took him to Dr. Drake for a second opinion. I'm glad I did, because he has made a miraculous recovery after being properly treated for a skin bacteria infection over the past 3 weeks!   Dr. Drake was sympathetic to the costs involved in all the tests, which states volumes about his love for animals!  Thank you to Dr. Drake and his staff for helping us! While spaying my dog he found a tumor on her mammory gland and left it. They didn't call to ask what I wanted done, didn't just remove it, he left it there, telling me to bring her back in for another surgery to remove the tumor when she is healed from this surgery. My dog was seen by this vet yesterday, I was disappointed because instead of treating my dog he wanted to do blood panels and x-rays before treating my dog. It turns out my dog had an enlarged heart murmur and was at stage 5. My dog suffered, we had to take our dog to the Round Rock Pet Emergency hospital where the doctor listened to her heart and determined in less than 5 minutes that she was untreatable and that we needed to put her down. I blame this vet for being negligent for her suffering. Dr Drake's staff is constantly changing and there is a lack of communication with his staff and himself. I will not be coming back to this hospital. Please note that if you want your pet to go through multiple testing and spend more money without a correct diagnosis the this is the vet practice for you. I just lost my dog of 12 years and have no faith in Dr. Drake.Read Less

We love this place! It is clean, the clerk at the desk is absolutely wonderful and very friendly. They make sure when your pet is in their care, they call by their name and let them know they are special. My littlest kitten is very antsy, and they adore him to pieces as well as my older cat who is more laid back. The prices are very reasonable, and parking is not an issue. Girls were always enthuastic when my dog came in for a visit. I appreciate that. When he died, however, I wanted something differenct with his ashes than I got. I had requested he be creameasted seperately but I wanted to spread his ashes so nothing fancy. What I got was a sealed fancy box with name plate, a christmas decoration. I wanted to be able to have his ashes spread in the part of the yard he loved but instead I have this worthless box I didn't want and I can't get to his ashes. Drake Pet Hospital saved my dog's life! We rescued him when he was a puppy and he had worms, fleas, and needed all his shots. When he turned a year old he fell ill , had a temp of 105 and we were scared. They saw us right away, ran tests, and figured out it was an autoimmune disease. I was about to expect our 2nd baby and couldn't afford all the tests and medication or dog needed  and they helped out out significantly. Our dog (Miller) loves going to the vet! I brought my new puppy in here yesterday for his first exam, and Dr. Drake was great. Of course I searched Yelp to find a Vet close to where I live. Soooo I'm obviously not used to speaking to people who care for animals on a daily basis, and I will say I think there are 2 types.....animal people who also like dealing with people, and animal people who like dealing strictly with animals. I spoke to Emilie last week to set the appointment....very friendly, outgoing, and just over all excellent customer service. She really put my mind at ease that we were choosing the right vet. So I load up the boys and Lucky (our pup) and head down to Dr. Drakes office. I notice a woman behind the desk/reception area and I say "Hi, are you Emilie?" ....the lady says "No, I'm not Emilie"........awkward pause..............awkward pause........ummmm so I'm here for a 4 o'clock appointment to see Dr. Drake. Clearly she is more animal person. She never said her name the whole time I was there. No worries though, Dr. Drake answered all of my questions, and performed a thorough exam. I read in some of the other reviews that he doesn't give all of the ooooooss and awes that some people expect a vet to give their new furry family member. I could give a S$%T about that. Just recently brought my new pit bull puppy here about a week ago and it was a pretty swell experience. Everyone was super friendly and polite and of course super loving to my puppy. Dr. Drake answered all my questions (and I had a lot!) And even showed me how to cut her nails. We had called around before for prices and when I left everything was what they said it would be. We moved away about a year ago but Dr. Drake was our vet for 6 years and we still miss him. The services aren't cheap but the office is always nice and clean, the staff are great. My dogs never got nervous going here. That alone let me know that they always took great care of my furry friends. To go further, we moved to California and have had to acclimate to a new vet which hasn't been smooth. Today, I called Dr. Drake to ask about a procedure he did for one of my dogs over 2 years ago and he was able to take a few minutes out of his schedule to take my call even though we aren't paying customers any longer. If you want a place that will care for your animals in a straight forward, professional way, I can't recommend Dr. Drake enough. Read Less

After hearing bluntly with limited information, after a very brief exam from our previous vet, that my cat had lymphoma, I wanted a second opinion. I opted to see Dr. Drake based on a few recommendations from other friends. Dr Drake was very thorough and took time to talk me through possibilities and next steps. We went ahead with an ultrasound, and unfortunately confirmed that my cat has a metastatic cancer. His bedside manner/ approach to discussing this disappointing diagnosis and my cat's condition was warm and caring. He gave me options that the other vet never mentioned, and made me feel very comfortable in this difficult situation. Most importantly, my cat - who is very picky about the people he chooses to like/ let handle him - was perfectly calm with Dr. Drake and his entire staff. This vet is way to expensive, from office visits, to medications. Some of the staff girls are okay, and some are rude and uncaring. Pet went in for a simple problem, and WHOA, the bill was a few hundred dolllars! Would NOT recommened this place to friends and family AT ALL! Other affordable vets out there. Read Less

You know I have seen some of the reviews of the people that complain about how expensive Drake is, I thought that too. Before we had a tragic accident and lost our beloved family member Buddy. I am not sure how theses people feel about their family but we LOVED Buddy and to get the kind of care that we felt that he deserved we were willing to pay for it. I would NEVER tell my child that we couldnt afford proper care for him. NOT MATTER WHAT! We dont have a lot of money but that never matters when you have to take care of someone that loves you no matter what. We took Buddy into them to be cremated and they let us take as long as we needed to say goodbye to him. They were very kind and careing to us in our time of loss. Even a few days later we got a card in the mail that the staff had signed telling us how sorry they were for our loss. The place that cremated Buddy sent him back to us in a beautiful urn inside a velvet monigramed bag with a ""B"" on it. Along with a little note and a poem from Buddy to us. This type of kindness is hard to find in a people doctors office! I will never forget the kindness they have shown us and will tell everyone to take their loved ones to them. Dr. Drake and that staff are always friendly and courteous to you and your pets.  I came to Austin a few years back, my dog got sick and I went to ANOTHER clinic (24hr Emergency Clinic) = bad results to say the least, even though they helped my dog it was not a pleasant experience and I did not stay there for the duration of the treatment.  Using a reference and seeing the quick location, I decided to give Dr. Drake and staff a try. I was impressed from the offset and my dog was as well.  The first thing I noticed was the genuine demeanor of the staff, and my dog did as well. My large Labrador easily wags his tail, and is at ease around everyone here (versus the other places).  Following from the previous treatments, they helped prescribe a proper course of action and helped my dog get better FAST.  I knew the issue and the reactions that should have occurred (from the vet and my dog), as I have a friend who is a Vet (just not local) and who had always treated my dog. (as a note I did not incline to the vet I what I knew, I wanted to see if they came up with the same conclusion and information as I was informed from my friend).  After that first visit and the healthy recovery of my dog, I decided over the years to take all of my animals here, and I recommend others for the same.  I have taken 2 cats and my dog here for regular check ups and procedures.  As to any situation, costs can be high in some cases. Tests need to be run, but I would encourage anyone to ask or look up the issue for the results.  For mine, I did my research through the web and my friend while looking towards Dr Drake and staff for an honest opinion. I got the honest opinion and I have not had any issues with the information and support provided. Did I conclude that some tests were not needed? Yes, and others.. no. That is what you do to help triage and assist the staff to resolve your situation. The doctors are there to address many layers of an issue.. so ask questions and understand the answers, it only benefits you & your pet.  Many times, they have even provided proactive solutions and steps to resolve many issues before they may occur.  Simple resolutions and experience cannot be replaced just by finding the "lowest" prices, and that is what I depend on: Experience and Empathy from my Vet.  Dr Drake and the staff run a clean and profession clinic that is family friendly, caring for your pets, and always there to provide an answer to your questions.  So if you need annual exams, routine shots, or regular nail clippings (like my Lab) go see the Drake Veterinary Pet Hospital to suit your pets needs. I have been taking my dog to Dr. Drake for 10 years. She is now 13 years old. He has been great. I trust him completely. There is a reason a good veterinary wants to do a check up on your pet before he gives them shots, etc. He is taking care of your pet as a doctor would one of your children. If you only want shots with no care for any other aspect of your pets health, I see flyers quite often that offer shots only. These usually happen in your local areas. I want my dog to be with me for many years, and the best way to have that happen is to pay those extra dollars and get the finest care. Good care is not free. There are insurance policies you can buy that help with the cost. You might want to look into those. Read Less

i took my dog to get vaccinated and ended up paying over a hundred dollars. when i called to make the appointment they told me i had to either bring in a stool sample or they would wait for him to go, so i brought it in., which i didn't really understand what that had to do with vaccines. when i got there, they kept trying to do other things to the dog and i kept saying no, i just want to get him vaccinated. about 4 months later i got a bill in the mail that said i owed 28 dollars...with no explanation why, just that i owed them money....when i called they told me that it was for the stool sample. and the lady tried to tell me that i had an option to pay at the time, i told her no, i would have payed it, i mean why pay 105 bucks at the time and then wait for the next 28? thats ridiculous anyway, i wouldn't recommend this place even to my enemy Read Less

I started going to Dr. Drake when he had the converted house (before the new building pictured here) and the prices were always reasonable and my dogs were treated very well. Since the new building, however, the prices keep going up and up and up and they always wanted me to schedule more appointments to get medication for a pre-existing conditon. I complained about it so they stopped charging me but it just should not have happened to begin with. He hired a new vet within the last year who doesn't listen, isn't personable with the pet or the owner. I HATED the way she roughly handled my little dog and the way she ignored me. I had to keep repeating myself about my concern over my dog then she would paraphrase something completely different and this went on about the exact same topic for at least five minutes. Then she told me nothing was wrong with my dog (turns out her shoulder was dislocated) and claimed she couldn't see my dog limp. THEN she chastized me for not having given my dog knee surgery when she was a puppy because she might get arthritus as an adult. That was inappropriate and not what I was there for. She was so fixated on chastizing me for not giving my dog surgery to possibly avoid arthritus in the future that the reason I went in (my dog was limping after being attacked by another dog) was ignored. I am now searching for a new vet as that incident with the misdiagnosis of the dislocated shoulder pushed me over the edge.Read Less

I have been taking my dog there for the past year for an ongoing life long condtion he has. I was told to come back every 6 months for a check up. Then, everytime I call for a perscription re-fill I am told the Doctor wont refill it until my dog comes in for a checkup. Every 6 months turned into every 2 months. There are always extra charges I almost always leave a ""checkup"" spending $150+. I am beginning to feel like they are trying to squeeze money out of me. Not a good feeling. I will be going back to my previous vet. Only started going to Drake because they could get me in faster than my previous vet. While the staff is very friendly, I can't allow myself to feel like I am being taken advantage of. Read Less

This is one of the worst vets I have ever been to - the staff is friendly, but once they have your animal, they look for any excuse to schedule multiple visits, a slew of tests, and once they're convinced that they have the right opinion about an issue your animal is having, they won't listen to reason. I didn't have an animal almost die like Suzydido, but I have been fighting them for the better half of 6 months to prescribe a standard medication for one of my animals - and it's only after several rounds of visits (money) and tests (more money) that they are willing to concede that I was right in the first place. We took our dog in for 3 days in a row to this vet, and even asked the vet if our dog had Parvo (life-threatening disease) multiple times. The vet said no and wouldn?t even test him. His diagnosis was the she might have worms. Our dog didn?t eat or drink for 4 days, and then when we called on Saturday they said to wait until Monday because they were about to close. You can?t not drink or eat for 7 days!!! Our dog would have died!!! We took our dog to another vet, and she was diagnosed with Parvo in less than 10 minutes. This vet even wrote us a letter after the fact that we told him he misdiagnosed our dog and he would have died if we would have waited until Monday, just because he thought we were going to take him to court. Turns out, this has happened before, we talked with another pet owner who?s dog had a heart murmur, and the vet didn?t know what it was, but sure took their money time after time, and then once they took it to another vet it was diagnosed in 10 minutes. This vet doesn?t know anything about any serious conditions. He gave us oral medication for our dog when it was throwing up every 20 minutes?obviously she was just throwing up the medicine, but they wouldn?t give us anything else. Horrible vet!!! I have found Dr. Drakes office to be one of the best vets that I have been to in a long time. I have a nasty habbit of running late to the vet, granted the Cats have a large part to play in that, and they are always courteous and willing to work me into their schedule, time permitting. They are always willing help me with pet problems and they always give me great advise. I would recommend Dr. Drake to everyone in Round Rock. He may be a little bit higher, but he is well worth it.
