Dr. Powell is an amazing vet! I have been taking my dogs here for almost 3 years now, and I have never had a bad experience. Dr. Powell gives very thorough exams, is always friendly, and will answer any questions you have about your pet in a professional and caring manner. On several occasions, he has caught things in my dogs that other vets have missed. Once, one of my pups would not stop gnawing at her paws, and he found something on her legs that was making it impossible for the itch to go away. I had already been to two other vets (one of them, twice) that completely missed that! I had tried the other vets because they were closer to where I live but, honestly, for the quality of care I get, it's worth the drive to see Dr. Powell. A good friend referred me to Dr.Powell at Acorn Hill Animal Hospital. Switching vets after so many years was the best decision for me and my sweet old dog. He has had some health issues and has received the best care. I have always been provided explanations, options, and costs. I don't know that I can say enough good things about Dr. Powell and his staff. Not only do I drive in from Austin so that my own dog can be seen by Dr. Powell, the rescue I volunteer with uses him as well. He truly cares about every dog he sees and takes the time to go over everything with you so that you have a better understanding. A year ago my own dog could barely walk and no one could figure out what was wrong with her, and once we did no vet was confident enough to treat her. Dr. Powell has truly worked wonders and he took the time to learn about her disease and research it as well. He answered all my questions, listen to my cry and most importantly he helped my dog. She is now running like crazy and full of life. The compassion his staff shows to our rescue dogs that come in amazes me. They take the time to get to know the dogs and help them as best they can. Highly recommend! I have known Dr. Powell for over seven years and our family followed him to Acorn Hill when he purchased the hospital even though it is a long drive. He is very thorough and takes his time with each patient. With that being said he does not push unnecessary tests and costs. Our dogs are older and have several medical conditions that he has helped/helps us work through . He is always evaluating various approaches to find solutions to health issues and takes the time to educate the owner. Very knowledgeable staff. They're friendly and polite, and they let me know prices and options before doing any procedures which is wonderful since I'm on a tight budget. The prices are very reasonable compared to other vet offices I've visited as well and they don't try to sell me a bunch of extra procedures and products I don't need like my last vet did. It's clean, reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly so I'll definitely be back. This is a great place to bring your pets. Dr Powell and his staff are very friendly and very caring people. They always remember our Ned. When we got our Ned from ACS, he had an infection from being neutered, heartworms, and fleas and ticks. One by one all of his issues have been resolved and today he is a very happy and healthy boy. Their prices for each process were very affordable. In fact, we opted for Dr Powell's treatment over SAPA (which ACS recommends when you adopt a dog with heartworms for a discounted treatment). Our family has been coming here since the late 90's when the practice belonged to Dr Don Johnson and we will continue to use Dr Powell and his staff for all of our needs. Read Less

I love this place! The staff is always so attentive, helpful, and caring. My mom took our childhood dog here and when I got my own dogs I knew exactly where to take them! This is a great veterinary clinic/hospital. The facility is very clean and easily accessible. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They remember the patients even after only one visit. Dr. Powell was absolutely amazing (my nervous dog even warmed up to him). He was very thorough in his explanations. GREAT PLACE! The whole staff loves my Trixie and the Dr. Ddoesn't beat around the bush and tells you whats going on. The vet helped us out and tries to make it as cheap as possible for any procedure, test or product you have to buy. We have been to 3 different vets around town and this is by far the best. Acorn Hill is the best Vet Hospital ever!!! I've been a pet owner my entire life and I've visited many many vets but ever since I found Acorn Hill Vet Hospital I realized that not all Vet Doctors are the same! Many vets are only driven by money and care nothing about the pets health or their owners! Dr Powell is NOT like that!! He is the most caring vet I ever seen!! He truly cares about the wellbeing of our pets!! He will let you know exactly what the pet needs and what can wait. He takes his time during the pet examination, never rushes (only an emergency arrives), he explains and answer every questions we may have. He is the Veterinarian of ALL my 5 pets and I'm constantly recommend him to all my friends and family. His hospital staff are just the same, super nice, very kind, and very helpful! I've been going here for over 20 years. Doc Johnson was the best (RIP).Thought I would have to find somewhere else to go until I met Dr. Powell. I'm staying right here. Update 6/30/15 I'm GLADLY going elsewhere. They have given a new pet a booster shot for viruses because I told them I had already given him the first shot so now for the last 5 months they keep asking me over and over and over to bring him in for the 'booster shot'. I kept telling them that he already had 2 virus shots and then they started to ask for 'proof' that he got the shot..i sent them a picture of the shot packaging thinking they just wanted to make sure of what he got...no...that wasn't it. They wanted to charge me for a dr's visit and a booster shot but the dog already HAD 2 virus shots. They kept asking for 'proof'...I said, 'I TOLD you I gave it to him...there's your proof'...but they are ALL about gouging your eyes out. I FINALLY told them "Im under NO obligation to give you any proof that he got the 2 required shots!!" What IS THIS??? So then they said it was just 'the automated system'...BS the automated system wasn't asking me for 'proof' for the last 5 months. So then I asked for a quote on some tests and stuff for heartworms on this new dogs and they simply didn't respond because I refused to be pushed around by them. So I sent the email asking for that quote several times trying to get a response. So then they called and stated 'they couldn't address my needs'....NO SH*T!!! NO PHHUCING SH*T!!!! I like Dr. Powell but there is a little auburn haired girl in that office that will take you for every penny you have and if you don't go for it she will guilt jerk you or try ANYTHING to make you do it. YOU HAVE NO OPTIONS. This is EXACTLY why I used to go to this office. Doc Johnson would NEVER pressure owners or try to bully people for their money. This is a typical city vets office now...have a 12 yr old dog that has a bad heart??...they will guilt jerk you into that surgery in a second and take every penny you have for it. If you have it to throw away...then go to this office...they will gladly take it from you. Without hesitation. Im going up the street to El Dorado Animal Hospital. Acorn Hill Animal Hospital is the go-to choice for both of my golden retrievers.  The location is great and the fees are reasonable but my main reason for going there is for Dr. Clint Powell.  When one of my dogs was extremely ill, Dr. Powell provided excellent, transparent care for her when he was working at another practice.  He has since had the opportunity to take over Acorn Hill and we have been visiting him there ever since.As the practice is in a stage of growth, improvements are being continually made including investments in technology and the office itself.  A state-of-the-art or aesthetically pleasing office may be nice to have but I will pretty much follow Dr. Powell wherever he goes.  You can't fake talent, intelligence, or compassion and he has all of these attributes.  You will receive great care for your pet(s) and have the opportunity to interact with his friendly office staff.  It is easy for me to wax poetic about some dish at the local dive or tell you about the newest chef in town.  What is not so easy is to convey how highly I recommend Acorn Hill and specifically Dr. Powell.  My dogs thank him as do I.
