Never coming here again. I called to have my dog shaven for $50 and made an appointment it was all set. When I came to pick him up she gives me the bill it was $83, I was like how is it this much? She answered, "Well the extra was for a bath because we cannot shave the dog without taking him a bath". But all I asked for was a shave, so they just add stuff onto your bill and overcharge you without letting you know. While I am letting her know of her mis-information over the phone, she asked if I wanted someone else to help me and stood up saying, " I cannot help her can someone else do this." I was in surprised that they have employees that cannot answer questions for customers. Read Less

If I could give negative stars I would! My dog has been going to this clinic for about 2 years if not a little longer, I have never had any issues until his last 2 visits but the last visit being the worst one. I signed a form stating do NOT treat my pets while in boarding. Well Saturday 3/17/18 my dog had a test done and was given meds without me being contacted at all this day. On 3/18/18 I get a call from Mona saying your dog was tested and treated, we did it because you consented. I thought to myself I never consent so I’ll check when I pick up. I was so drained to ask her to email the letter because I was driving in from New Mexico and had just been with my dad who lost his brother. Well I pick my dogs up Monday 3/19/18 and what do you know I did NOT sign the form consenting treatment. I do not ever give permission since this is my husbands dog and he wants to be notified about what’s going on first. Now this was not a medical emergency so someone could’ve picked up the phone and called even a receptionist. I was told Maria who is the supervisor would call me Tuesday. Today is Friday 3/23/18 and no call from Maria so when I just called Maria is gone for the day and nobody knows anything so they said she would call me Monday. Um NO thanks!! You had me on hold for 10 minutes after you told me you’d find out what was going on and get back saying “Maria is gone already but I’ll have her call you Monday”. That’s not how things work! I will NEVER take our fur babies here again!! I forgave 1 mistake and never said anything but Maria couldn’t even pick up the phone to try and make things right so this I will not care to hear from her about. Read Less

My Rascal (Canine mix) & I had a great experience here. Of course he doesn't like shots, but the Doctor was so great at helping me comfort him. The employees were very welcoming they even gave him a cute bandana to wear. I love to see individuals with a passion to help our furry family members. In conclusion to all this, the prices are great I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a vet!It was our first visit here & we will continue to go back for check ups, vaccinations, & other pup needs. However, the only concern I had was that I had misplaced my papers for my baby. So, considering it was his first time here, I asked them if they needed to scan him for his microchip; I thought it would be protocol. They said it was no big deal and proceeded with his screening. I just worry if my baby had been taken here by someone else. I mean yes he'd be getting taken care of, but he's my baby. Hopefully this will change, because I loved everything else about this place. Glad they are open on Sunday with walk ins welcome, my dog had a fever of 103 (normal is 101-102) they wanted to do blood work on him but I declined because my dog is only 4 years old and very healthy otherwise. I told them let me just do the antibiotics they prescribed me for him and take things from there. I turned down the 200.00 blood work the vet tech and the doctor both looked at me as if I was crazy for turning down the blood work, their weird stares toward me didn't phase me I just thought it was rude of them to look at me that way. I know my dog, no 200.00 worth of blood test were necessary for this visit, remember these people are in the business of making money. 5 days later my 4 year old dog is doing fine with only his amoxil that they gave him. 84.00 later we both are fine. Listen to your gut, don't let the vet techs or doctors bully you into something you feel your dog does not need. Read Less

We have been bringing our 3 dogs here since we moved to San Antonio. They're great with my dogs and always diagnos them properly the first time we go, so no need to return. The times I've gone, I've waited a while, but it's never been unbearable. The longest I've waited was about an hour. I wait outside with my dog, and we wait to be called. The waiting room is full of anxious animals which, since you're going to be there for an hour or more waiting to get called, is likely going to stress your per our way too much before they even step foot inside. Took my daughter with her cat there since the VCA down the street was closing and they referred her to this hospital. The cat was adopted in early December and seemed healthy but he has been developing some paralysis and keeps progressing by the day. The girl at the VCA told my daughter just to take his chart to the ALAMO HOSPITAL so they can see what's been going on with him! Well they read his chart and told my daughter there was nothing they could do for him but referred her to a neurology. Then few seconds later the skinny little receptionist comes in with a stupid amount and says it was for the examination they did to the cat. There was no examination just the reading of his chart from the VCA!! If I knew there was gonna be a charge for reading the chart, I should've read the chart to them! So vets are just like our doctors, they're out for everyones money & not giving a damn about the patients situation! I'll never take another pet there!!Read Less

There's upsides and downsides to this place! The good thing is that, because they take walk ins, I could take the stray cat on my porch and been seen that same day! The downside was that... Because they only take walk ins, you'll be waiting for a whiiiile. I went on Saturday, so it was predictably busy and I waited for maybe an hour and a half to get seen. Because the poor kitty was microchipped (probably abandoned.,, he's my cat now) the guy told me I had to call and that they couldn't do anything right then because he was somebody else's pet. Which is fair... But i called in the parking lot, found out the owners had no good information on file in like two minutes and was too tired to go back in to wait another hour and a half. Caveat: you know when you're that smart person who arrives 10min before they open to get in with no wait?  Well, everyone does that here, so 10am on a Sunday was a 30min wait. Read Less

They have TVs while you wait and of course animal planet. The Facility is first come first serve basis. i would recommend getting there early and even during the week. I walked in after 4pm and there were 4 other people waiting then an emergency walked in. My phone shutoff while I was there and I had to leave because I'm "on-Call" with my grandmother. I told the Vet Tech /receptionist that would be back the following day. She said OK. i returned the following day and they remembered why i come in. There were 2 other clients waiting and my dog was seen in 30 minutes. The Veterinarian was really nice and had good recommendations on how to deal with my dogs allergies. He didn't rush us and took his time. I'm very happy i found a great place to take my sweetie. Read Less

These guys are the best. I have to admit I don't like taking my pets to the vet but I had to make a trip recently because my pet was starting to concern me. I thought my cat had mange or some type of bug. I went in after they opened, signed in and waited for about 20 minutes. Best wait time experience, similar to a walk in clinic for humans. The vet tech who called me in was friendly and very professional. After my feline companion had his stats taken the vet tech left and came back a few minutes later with the vet himself. He came in looked at my cat (including his underbelly, he's so fat!) and then checked his ears and the scabbish looking spots where my cat had been scratching. He was able to come to a quick diagnosis and offered me two solutions. Apparently my cat has an allergy to something in the apartment we live in.Needless to say I was totally at ease with this vet visit and would highly recommend them to anyone else. Read Less

While I am letting her know of her mis-information over the phone, she asked if I wanted someone else to help me and stood up saying, " I cannot help her can someone else do this." If I could give negative stars I would!

Kitty check up will just have to wait I guess! Read Less

We've been taking our cats and dogs here for a while now and the staff is always courteous and loving. They were never hesitant to interact with our dogs even though they can be intimidating when meeting new people. The wait times can be long but if it's busy that's to be expected, I've never gone to a doctor's office and been out fast either, that's the nature of the business; every patient has different needs that take different lengths of time to tend to. I switched to Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital because of the terrible experience I had at VCA Mission Animal Hospital. The only reason I am not giving Alamo five stars is because the wait time is very long. They only take appts for surgery, grooming and a few other things. Otherwise, they are first come, first served. The staff is exceptional. Kind, considerate and knowledgeable handlers and front-office. The biggest reason I am impressed is the improvement my dogs got from the veterinarian we see. She knows what she is talking about, encourages me to do what is financially  reasonable for me for my dog with diabetes, but does not push. And both my dogs love her!I am very happy since I switched to Alamo, so are my babies! Read Less

This review is long overdue.  We have been going to Alamo Dog and Cat Hospital for seven years, and there is no way I would go anywhere else.  Since the first day, they have all been so helpful, with wonderful customer service.  When we have been through tragedy, they have been so compassionate.  There have been a few "close calls" over the years that, if we didn't have this vet (Dr. D) I think the results would not have turned out as well as they did.If I could give more stronger recommendation for someone looking for a vet and staff who really CARES, I would.  If you decide on this establishment, you'll be very glad you did! I cannot praise this place enough.  I have never dealt with such compassionate group of veterinarians than I did at Alamo Hospital.  I had to euthanize my beloved dog yesterday due to cancer.  They treated me with such compassion and understanding.  I even got a call from his usual doctor that wasn't there that painful day just to give her condolences.  The staff was very warm and made sure I got to spend as much time as I needed with my baby before I had to let him go.  I even got hugs from a wonderful sweet front office receptionist.  I will never go anywhere else. I was given a referral to this place and was told to ask for David, so I called just now and this extremely creepy girl answering the phone kept saying "there is no David who works here," and then would hang up! So I kept calling back thinking I had the wrong number, then she finally, finally, finally told me that he doesn't work there any MORE. Nauseatingly petty and sickening- the type of infantile idiot who would answer a business phone like that should be fired on the SPOT, because they just lost a potential client over her extreme immaturity and stupidity and I also hope who ever the new vets are there read this as well. Caveat: you know when you're that smart person who arrives 10min before they open to get in with no wait?  Well, everyone does that here, so 10am on a Sunday was a 30min wait. Read Less

This is a very nice Veterinary Hospital. The Vet Techs are very nice and helpful. the lobby is very clean and organized.

Read Less
