It may sound stupid, but I just moved across country and I was legitimately sad to leave this vet. All of the staff members are so friendly, the prices are beyond reasonable, and Dr. Fritz would personally call me with updates on my dogs. I always knew that my pets were in fantastic hands and that I’d be treated fairly. Read Less

I very rarely leave reviews like this but in this case I felt that it was necessary. I would NOT recommend this vet to anyone. We’ve had a number of issues since we started bringing our pets here, there seems to be an issue with communication or documenting what needs to be done, I’m not sure exactly what went wrong but I’m not happy. My husband and I both work full time so it’s easiest for us to board our pets over the weekend so they can get caught up on any vaccinations they might need. In this case we ended up boarding them for no reason because when we went to pick them up NOTHING had been done. We are moving out of the country this year and it is important they receive certain vaccinations in a timely manner, I had discussed this in detail with the attendant at the counter, I gave her the list of all that was needed for traveling out of the country and yet when we picked them up they had no idea anything needed to be done! They had asked if we would like to get our pets bathed, I requested our cat have a bath while she was there, and they must have done it in a rush because our poor cat was still soaking wet and shivering in her carrier when they brought her out! Not to mention they then had to rush all of the vaccinations that should’ve been done over the weekend. I just feel so bad for our pets. The people have never been very friendly, our pets were terrified every time we went in there, hopefully this doesn’t happen to other people but needless to say we will NOT be going back there. Multiple times, this clinic and Dr Kirby have helped brat of a Siamese cat. They are wonderful, efficient, and empathetic. My only recommendation they should change is their waiting music on the phone. Pretty bad country music, but I suppose I can survive listening to it to work with the awesome team they have. Awesome service! Dr Kirby is an amazing doctor, very professional and really care about pets. He is always available even after hours. I cannot recommend this pet clinic enough!  I took my little dog in as she had something stuck in her throat.  They were so kind and took her right in.  Took excellent care of her!  I then spoke with Dr. Kirby about my dog and was so impressed with him and his genuine care of my dog and the other animals in the clinic.  And when it was time for the bill I was shocked at how little it was!   That was an excellent indication of their priorities.  Pets are the most important.  I will be back and hopefully for a much less serious issue. i have brought my dogs here for past year and a half for checkups and shots. i really appreciate the level of care by Dr Fritz. i have two cocker spaniels which are prone to frequent ear infections. in the latest spout we've had to bring one of them in to see dr fritz on a weekly basis. i very much appreciate dr fritz's attentiveness and his follow up phone calls with each visit. he has also been very reasonable with the costs for treatment. while im extremely satisfied in my experience with dr fritz, i am very annoyed with the level of customer service i have experienced with the receptionists. maybe they are understaffed, but they have a really difficult time managing checkins and ive frequently experienced wait times exceeding 30 minutes (for quick drop offs). on more than one occasion they have forgotten that i was waiting in the lobby (after checking in) and in other instances have approached me after i had been waiting for some time to ask what i was there for. Beware of the drop off system!  I specifically told the clerk that my dog was to see Dr Alldridge (and I had arranged this by phone the week before) and the dog did not need a rabies vaccination. The dog was seen by Dr Fritz and I was charged for a rabies shot and offered a tag. I do not know whether she actually received a shot...I got different stories. While the doctors are fine, the front desk staff has a history in my case of appearing to be quite indifferent and careless. Valerie is the exception. Stay  with your pet if you can. Put everything in writing, BIG writing, for the desk clerks. If there were a doctor like Dr Alldredge anywhere else I would NOT use this clinic!I just looked at the paper and realized that they did not do a heartworm test which, again, I specifically requested of the admitting clerk. I have taken my bosses dog in twice now for various reasons. The building itself is small and uncomfortable. The receptionists also do not make you feel welcomed and do not go out of their way. This place is mediocre. Read Less

This is the premier veterinarian office in Alamo Heights, if not all of San Antonio. Dr. Kirby has a wonderful reputation and a great bedside manner. He makes you and your pet feel comfortable and taken care of. The other doctors are great too however, it is the office staff that leaves something to be desired. The vet techs are great but the women at the front desk are very snooty. They act like because they work in Alamo Heights and for Doctor Kirby that they are better than you. They seldom make eye contact and never smile. When I am waiting in the lobby they carry on these long personal conversations with each other, often talking about clients. I don't need to hear that stuff. I will continue to take my dog's there but I wish they could make some staff changes. Read Less

Because Dr Kirby is oh so nice, patient and has been amazing with my loving pets he deserves this score!  He is the only Vet my family and I will use.  Just warning you though don't let the rude girls up front hinder you, because they don't deal with your pet.  Ellen was the only pleasant one and I probably will ask for her next time so I don't get ignored.  If you don't let this ruin your day either, once you get past them you are in good hands. I'm very pleased with the staff and Dr. Brown.  They treated myself and my doggie with kindness and knew exactly how to approach my dog since he gets nervous when he's at the vet.  I was also informed on a few things regarding Pro Heart , that my other vet had not informed me on.  I was very grateful for the knowledge and professionalism I received here.  Glad my Bucky boy has a new vet that I trust and know will take good care of him.  :) Read Less

Ridiculous-- Just without doubt the BEST, most THOROUGH, most INTERACTIVE and crazy-amazing follow through of any vet with which I've had experience.  Extremely DETAIL-oriented.Dr. Kirby did blood and UA tests on a Friday, called me with test results from one on Saturday and then called me again with the additional test results on Sunday.  I work in a business where client and customer interactiveness is key and this type of communication is rare in any space.  I've never seen this level of communication in the veterinary area. His follow-through was not just in form, but also in SUBSTANCE-- each time, he explained in great detail what was found to warrant the tests, what the results were and why they were significant and then provided the conservative treatment with specific recommendations that was needed.He says that he treats the way he would his own.  I believe him.Bottom line: 1 Vet visit + 3 Calls from Dr. =  Phenomenal. My dog Cali tore her two rear ACLs about 6 months ago while we were out running one day (saw a squirrel and ran after it..lol). Cali is about 9 years old now, and I'll be honest, I absolutely feared for the worst. She couldn't walk at all and I seriously feared for her mental health since she had zero mobility. Got opinions from two different vets, and the conclusion was pretty much the same. She needed surgery and they both suggested taking her over to Stone Oak for that procedure. After getting quotes for the surgery that seemed quite high, I found Dr. Kirby via a recommendation from my Mom and took Cali over there for a third opinion. From day one, it was a no brainer. The moment I show up with Cali in my arms, someone is there to open the door for me, small things like that. The cost was FAR more reasonable than what I was quoted in Stone Oak (not trying to put anyone down, I'm sure they would have done a great job, but not everyone has gobs of money to throw at their pet). Dr. Kirby was the bomb though! You can tell he really cares deeply about his job, as does everyone that works there. The day of the surgery, I left Cali there that morning and got a call later in the afternoon that everything had gone according to plan. I picked her up later in the week and brought her home. I actually called down to the office later that week with questions about medication and Dr. Kirby was busy and would have to call me back. Totally understandable. Well later that night I got a call at 9pm from him answering all of my questions. I don't think I have EVER had any sort of call like that past business hours. Absolutely amazing customer service honestly. Every time I went down to his office, it is pretty much standing room only because of all the animals there. For Dr. Kirby to actually call me back at 9pm same day (after I'm sure he is dead tired after a day of work) is just pure dedication. So greatly appreciated. Cali only had surgery on one leg, and I am thrilled to say is back to walking several miles a day. Minus the scar on her leg, you can't even tell she tore two ACLs. Called into Dr. Kirby's talk show. Have heard so many wonderful things about him and I have dealt with him personally when he was taking care of my clients pet. He gave me such wonderful insight, while being completely honest with me about the gravity of my six-month-old kitties condition. This is a great vet clinic. The staff is friendly and the vets are truly caring. Dr. Kirby called and checked in frequently with me regarding my pup when she was sick. Dr. Ezell is by far the best veterinarian I have ever found in all my years  of having animals. He treats my dog Chico and two cats, Angel and Ginger, with such kindness and compassion. I spent 3 hours in here with people coming in after me and leaving while I was still sitting there.  The office staff did the bare minimum and were not helpful at all except to take the money.   One star because of the time spent waiting. Read Less

I have been taking Libby and Dexter there since they were 6 weeks old. Fast friendly service. Dr. Ezell even personally called me to tell me the condition of my kitties. I typically would have expected an assistant to call. He asked if I had any questions and was very helpful.Read Less

Experience plus kindness is the feeling that you get from this place when you deal with the Alamo Pet Clinic. My only gripe is that you have to deal with old forms that were not developed properly but considering that the people at the front desk seems to be happy and my dog  doesn't shun the vet like a dentist, I give them top honors. I needed urgent care for my cat due to a blocked bladder and they had pumped him up with fluids, then sent him home.  Of course that was on a Saturday....So sunday, my cat was not even moving and in obvious pain. I then had to take him to Emergency Animal hopsital...overall, it was a $2500 bill.  Not knowing any other vets in the area, I took him back. This time, i talked directly to Dr. Kirby.  He mentioned his radio show about 10 times, and he has this plastic personality... I don't doubt that he cares about the animals, but his ego and personality may be a little higher on the totem pole. That being said, I've had pretty good experiences since the initial incident, although his staff is a hit and miss.  His prices for the special diet food is decent, but you have to pre-order, and even with that, they don't seem to get the order right most of the time.  It's a good thing that I drive past them everyday from work.I did recently have to board my cat for over 2 weeks.  Now, it's the first time that I ever had to board him, so I'm sure that kitty was traumatized from that alone.  But you know, after I picked him up, it was like he wasn't the same kitty from before.  And he really had trouble walking, limping for a good day...I really have to agree with Andy L.'s review, I don't think they ever let him out of the cage... I called a couple times to check up while he was boarded, and they kept reassuring me he was fine.  it's been a few weeks since kitty came back home, and he's back to normal, I think he's forgiven me, but i'll definitely think twice before boarding him again.  The grooming prices are relatively cheap here, and for routine treatments, I wouldn't hesitate to bring him back, but....I heard that Lincoln Heights Pet Clinic was much better!, Damn, but they are busy, and I had a hard time getting an appt for a new client.  Dr. Kirby may be a great vet, i'm not so sure in the capabilities of the others.
