Animal Hospital Of San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas
General Info
Animal Hospital of San Antonio implements a unique care system that aligns medical procedures with pets' physical and emotional responses by observing body language and recovery zones across Texas. Every session starts with perimeter awareness: observing pets as they explore the space, noting which areas they steer clear of and how rapidly they adjust their movement speed. The clinic team initiates interaction by examining body-system cues which start with fur density and external touch tolerance before progressing to assessments of oral health joint range and abdominal flexibility. Owner observations are factored in with equal weight: recent stalling before stairs changes in how the animal sleeps or guards objects or shifts in interaction timing with household members. The Animal Hospital of San Antonio delivers intricate medical mapping services which encompass orthopedic planning alongside cardiovascular monitoring and include hydration tracking with dermatological assessments as well as immune system calibration combined with energy-rest cycle evaluations. Organized procedures maintain recovery periods by dividing even short diagnostic steps to avoid cumulative stress. The animal's reactions to various thresholds dictate adjustments in noise levels, scent layering, and personnel proximity. Post-care recommendations depend on behavioral indicators including the duration pets take to reach normal activity levels, their chosen hiding spots within the home, and the resumption or delay of social interactions. Support operations persist via recorded visual touchpoint interactions alongside optional sensory behavior analyses. Animal Hospital of San Antonio delivers veterinary care across San Antonio and its surrounding Texas areas by treating each visit as a dynamic journey where they interpret the pet's signals throughout every room transition and posture change without pauses.

Today has been the worst and BEST day of my life. I brought my dog in because I just knew she had parvo. She was losing so much fluids and the amount of blood coming out was horrific. This just came on suddenly. Thank God for Doctor Smith! The dog I went home with isn't the same as the furbaby I brought in. She was given an IV and hydrated back and she took her time explaining to me about my baby and what I could do for her in more ways than what I brought her in for. She genuinely cares about her patients and their owners. I'll NEVER take my fur babies anywhere else ever again. Thank you Doc Smith, from the bottom of our hearts!!! Read Less

Took my Husky in for a bath and to have her checked for occasional blood appearing when she urinated. The diagnosis was a UTI with bladder stones. When we took her in, the Husky had eaten and was mobile. When we picked her up, she was lame. As the days passed, she became progressively worse, and one week after her visit to this particular vet, we made the painful decision to have our beloved fur baby cross the Rainbow Bridge (assisted by different vet). Not sure why our aging but mobile baby was able to walk into the vet's office, but left lame and afterward went downhill so rapidly that she had to be put to sleep a mere 7 days later. Who dies from a UTI, especially when it's being treated? Read Less

This is in response to another person's review. She talks about the vet giving her the wrong medication for her dog. She says she brought her dog in for a cough. The doctor prescribed enalapril, calling it a beta blocker. While she is correct that it is an ace inhibitor, not a beta blocker, but I don't believe the doctor prescribed the wrong medication. If the dog had a cough that caused a bad enough congestion that got into the heart, lungs, etc then a prescription for enalapril would have been appropriate.Read Less

My boyfriend and I recently moved to the area. He took our dog to the Animal Hospital of San Antonio to get his yearly vaccines as well as get evaluated for a cough that he had developed. My boyfriend did note that Dr. Smith was very kind and caring as she evaluated our dog for over an hour. A lot of tests were done and Dr. Smith gave him the preliminary diagnosis of allergies. She instructed us to give my dog Benadryl and wrote a prescription for a "beta- blocker called enalapril". My boyfriend and I are both clinical pharmacists and enalapril is not a beta blocker, it actually belongs to the class of medications called ACE-inhibitors and is a medication used for high blood pressure, heart failure, and impaired kidney function. Just before the visit ended, my boyfriend verified that was the correct medication she wanted to write for and questioned the veterinarian. Dr. Smith replied "no this is a beta blocker". Once he came home, I called her to verify once more and to provide a little bit of education and she still insisted she was correct. So please, please, please, verify what medication is being written for your pet before giving it- look it up, ask a pharmacist! Regardless, giving a beta blocker for allergies will constrict the lungs and actually make it harder to breathe- hence why albuterol (a beta agonist) is prescribed for asthma. So again, I really urge you to be carful at this clinic. Rather than double checking and looking up the infromation, Dr. Smith insisted this was the best therapy. If I gave this drug to my dog his blood pressure could have dropped, he could have been dizzy, and may have even fainted. If this really was a beta agonist it would have made his allergies worse and made it hard to breathe! Please get a second opinion if coming here. Read Less

The staff of the Animal Hospital of San Antonio showed their true colors today. My old cat carrier, containing not one but two of our pets, broke open as I was walking in the front door. One cat ran out, and the other in. I ran after my Nicolas, who was scheduled for neutering, never dreaming that the doctor and two techs were right behind me. He went far, but we found him hiding under a car in a hot oily parking lot. These ladies lay down with me on the pavement to coax the kitty out to safety. I'm buying them lunch tomorrow.

Already got the new cat carrier! Read Less
