Male veterinarian is very caring and patient and staff was nice as well. However, the female veterinarian needs lots of work as to why she became a veterinarian to begin with. I had to make a painful decision to send my beloved Oreo to the rainbow bridge. This women plain out told my friend "well someone has to make the decision." Now I wasn't buying a pair of shoes and it took a lot more thought to this decision. Also, her children need not to be at work with her running around its already hard enough on the animals that are there withought these children all over the place. I have been there 3 times twice just to pickup meds and those children are all over the place even in the front where the receptionist is trying to help customers. I will be going to Saint Frances veterinarian from now on unless this is fixed ASAP. One bad apple can spoil the lot. Read Less

Friday, January 19th, my closet friend had to take her young cat Bernie hi to the vet after a little rough play with his other fur pal. The owner could tell Bernies neck was sore and injured. Her regular veterinarian was out of town until Monday January 22nd, so she took him to Callaghan Road Animal Hospital, where they felt on this throat (only ever felt his throat) and diagnosed him with a "hematoma". They gave the owner pain meds and Bernie got a shot for the swelling. They sent them on their way. The next evening (Saturday), the "hematoma" pops. There is no blood, but tons of pus and a large hole in the middle of his neck. Unable to do anything until Monday morning, she cleaned it out and cared for him and best she could. Bernie began to struggle to breathe, and lose weight and body heat. He would not eat or drink. The owner called Callaghan Animal Hospital on the way to her regular vet to let them know they misdiagnosed Bernie, and that he should've been treated with antibiotics on Friday, to which they answered "bring him back in!" When she got to her regular vet, Bernie's temp was 96.2. He had lost one pound, only weighing 3 pounds on Friday. The owner was told Bernie should have had X-rays done and antibiotics started immediately. He had a punctured jugular, and the infection had spread from his neck throughout his entire body. The owners regular vet wanted to fight for that 20% chance of life. Bernie died while being hooked up to an IV for fluids and antibiotics. His lungs collapsed. The owner called and told Callaghan what happened... That Bernie had died. Today she received a check in the mail for the amount that she spent for them to kill Bernie. And the nice little message at the bottom from the manager. "Thank you for visiting with me regarding your visit. Hope he's doing well!" Read Less

I cannot say enough good things about Callaghan Road Animal Hospital.  Their prices are fair, the vets listen and genuinely care.  Their reception staff and technicians are helpful.  I never feel that unnecessary diagnostics are being pushed on me like at other clinics.  They offered me cost saving alternatives when it came to my dogs heartwom prevention.  We have several vet clinics nearby where I live in Helotes, but the drive to their office is worth it for me. I made an appointment here using my brothers account. I had to wait 30 minutes to be seen, after that it was fairly quick but my questions about my dogs dewormer were not really answered. The nurse seemed unsure and didn't try and clarify or find out. I realize I asked to keep it as low as possible since my brother was paying (thank him!) but the fact of the matter is he still paid. I had this feeling that they felt that since *I* wasn't paying that they could just toss my experience aside. They seemed like they wanted to get us out so they could leave since it was close to closing even though I had arrived before my appointment time. Not very informative, a few people were nice, but the service wasn't great.Read Less

It took me a long time to find an animal hospital I trust.  We have a dog from SAPA that we were fostering.  He wasn't a dog really were in love with but we couldn't see him be put down.  He was skin and bones and supposedly had diarrhea .  After taking care of him for several weeks we realized something else was wrong.  First vet couldn't take care of the issue and sent us to Callaghan Road Animal Hospital .  They spent two days with Jack.  He had a broken pelvis from when he was on the streets and it healed so that his intestine is compromised requiring a special diet.  He had been originally misdiagnosed at the animal facility and his sickly look probably prevented him from being adopted.  We failed as foster parents and adopted him.  He is a really good dog.  Rarely barks and always ready to play!  Jack wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for the wonderful care he received from Callaghan Road!  Now we have another edition to our furry family and he'll only come here for care. We took our baby on 12/19 because she had gotten pregnant from our boy. We wanted to find out how many puppies she was going to have& if she was going to be able to have them naturally. Nurse was amazing, front desk was amazing, but the female vet was incredibly unprofessional. Before I begin I will say our male and female are both pit bulls and I believe this was the reason she was so ugly towards them. She had the audacity to say that our girl was gross because she had what she said was mange when in reality they were just tiny bald spots from where our male and our neighbors female husky play a little rough. Not only was she ugly towards us, she was ugly towards our baby. I have never seen her so scared in her life & she's a very happy/playful dog. Well the vet takes her to another room to get her xray to see how many puppies she's going to have (which I thought was odd due to the fact that our family vet in corpus would allow us to be in the room with our dog). She comes back in and says "Its way to early to determine how many puppies she's going to have. I couldn't see anything. She needs another 40-45 days" in a very annoyed voice. We never even received a copy of the xray or any kind of paperwork. Everything seemed so unprofessional. The worst part is that just yesterday, our baby gave birth to 8 healthy puppies, just 14 days after we took her to get her xray and were told that it was too early to determine how many puppies she was going to have and that there was nothing visible. The reason we decided to get an xray done was to know how many puppies to expect before she went into labor (in the case that one had gotten stuck, we could take her to an animal emergency room). Not only did she have a lack of professionalism but she put our baby in danger! I could go on and on about this vet but the point of this rant is that I will NEVER bring one of my family members to this vet again.Read Less

Such a sad day. We had to let our 17yo miniature dachshund cross the rainbow bridge before us today. I wish this could have happened while we were still in Lubbock so that her previous vet could have helped us. However, with that being said, Callaghan Road Vet Hospital and Animal Emergency Clinic (see review on that business page) were amazing during this very difficult time!  We chose Callaghan because the emergency vets had it on a list of vets they work with frequently and they received high praise reviews when I googled them. Also, they were close. Being new to the area, that is important when in unfamiliar surroundings and going through a difficult time. The staff at Callaghan vets was phenomenal! The young lady at the front desk (Shereena?) was friendly & professional. We probably waited less than 5 minutes before being taken to an exam room, and I attribute that to her prompt communication with the back of the house staff. The waiting room was tiny but FULL. Our wait could have been MUCH Longer.Christine, vet tech, was sympathetic & professional. Dr. Guevara was thorough, professional, & knowledgeable. He presented possibilities & probabilities and several treatment options, which ran from passive to aggressive while maintaining an understanding and acceptance of financial feasibility. Ultimately, given our furrbaby's age, health status, and projected quality of life, we chose to put her needs before our own and let her go.  We held her as they administered the medication, and she quickly & quietly slipped away. Dr. Guevara, Dr Evans (who administered the medication bc Dr G was called into surgery), Christine, & Ana in the back and Shereena(?) in the front were so kind and loving.  Shereena even quietly & compassionately stated that we could pay when we returned for her urn.  I spent all night researching vets & crematory services ... I can assure you that quite a few reviews for other vets were not so relaxed about paying for services later. It was nice to know that trust and compassion still exist.Thank you, staff @ Callaghan Vet Hospital, for making a difficult time a little more bearable and humane. Read Less

Took our Dane in due to some skin issues. The vet really took the time to answer all of our questions and provide assistance in figuring out the problem.

Read Less

A much different experience than I am used to, as most visits to the vet seem to have a main goal of getting us in and out as quickly as possible. Also, the cost for the visit was very reasonable. The follow up call to see how Jimmy was doing was also a great way to say that they care about their clients and we will definitely be visiting this vet for our future needs.Read Less

I wish I could rate this clinic more than 5 stars. I took my dog there a few weeks ago on death's door. I went to 5 other clinics in the area all of which gave me VERY expensive estimates with little chance of survival. I went to Callaghan Rd Animal Hospital and met their two vets who both were so personable and kind and truly cared about my dog. Not only were they very positive about saving my dog's life but they were SO affordable, almost 1/3 of what other clinics were charging. Thanks to Dr Evans and Dr Guevara my dog is alive today and my bank account still intact. It is a family owned business with two adorable boys who roam the clinic. Their staff is amazing and they treat you like family. I would recommend this clinic to anyone in the San Antonio area. Read Less
