How many times do you fear going to the vet because they treat you like the service department at some car dealerships--where you go into it wondering just how bad you're going to be gouged and up-sold? I was initially put off a little by the bad reviews, so I nearly didn't go. I'm SO glad I did. Dr Williams is a wonderful person. My granddog LOVED her. He even left me to go and stand by her side for more petting. He's been diagnosed with cancer by another vet, and my daughter and I are desperate to try and help him, and make his last days more comfortable. Dr Williams spent an hour with us, looking up recipes to help him, and she even gave him a neck massage with essential oils. I think he probably thought he was already in heaven.The rest of the staff were lovely to him as well. If you're going to complain about a wait, then the sort of vet where you're in and out in 10 minutes is probably the place for you.But if you want a vet who genuinely cares about your animals and spends time with them and you, then I recommend here. My dog has had back pain that radiates down her leg. I went to three other vets over the course of 6 months who were only interested in providing meds. After one visit with Dr.Williams we have seen significant improvement in her! Dr.Williams did a chiropractic adjustment and showed me exercises and stretches to do at home. She spent over 45 min with me and even helped me figure out a new diet for my dog. She has a wonderful holistic meets western medicine approach. The entire office staff was kind and professional. My dog is usually anxious at vets. During this visit she actually laid down on her side and started to nap! They provide a comfortable, relaxing environment for both the patient and owner. Very nice, knowledge and concerned about the specific needs of my puppy. Riley was diagnosed with hepatic liver shunt. This has been a roller coaster of emotions. After extensive research on prescription foods and the specific needs that my baby will need I finally found a vet that understands the decisions I make for my puppy. Dr. Williams and her staff are caring and my chihuahua LOVES them. This is important, because, my feisty little Chihuahua does not let just anyone pet or hold her and she will bark and try to bite when handled. As I was warning the vet technicians that she might bite they picked her up and she was totally fine with it! The staff and Dr. Williams all carried and loved on her and she acted as if she has known them forever! I was shocked! This was the first sign to me that she trusted them so I knew we were in the right place. I am so happy we went there, because, Dr. Williams has helped get our little baby back to health when she was very ill from taking a popular flea preventive given to her at a different vet. After she was all better, Dr.Williams performed the dental cleaning on her, which I was always scared to do since she is so tiny. It was successful and this has also helped our chihuahuas health, because, she had so many bad teeth that needed to go. We love this place and I highly recommend them. My experience with this vet's office was simply awful at best. I had made an appointment to see Dr. Williams on 3/23/17, Instead, my dog was see by a Dr. Graham. When then called to verify the appt. no one said that Dr. Williams would not be there. Dr. Graham gave my dog an asian supplement that caused her to have vomiting & diarrhea. I returned the supplement & two additional supplements I purchased on 3/27/17. The office staff & Dr. Williams stated they would process my credit to my debit card that day.. To this day, no credit has been received. Today I made 3 phone calls & spoke with Tiffany who advised my refund had not been processed until today because the doctor forgot. Now I have to wait an additional 7 days on top of the 10 days I have already waited. They are quick to take your money, but not credit when it is due. The service is poor and the office is not very clean. Read Less

I love Dr. Williams and her staff. Compassionate Care is always so wonderful to our rescue, Texas Chihuahua Rescue, and has seen several of our special babies. I also bring my personal special needs baby here. My dogs life is better and lived more comfortably thanks to Dr. Williams. Read Less

My Labrador has arthritis and hip dysplasia. She was very immobile and was losing most of her strength. After seeing dr Williams and going through acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments she is a whole new dog! She's running and chasing the ball as well as going on her walks. Can't say enough good stuff about Dr. Williams and her staff. We've been seeing her for chiropractic and acupuncture for my French Bulldog's spondylitis. She has brought my dog so much relief, it's like she's years younger. We have been able to cut her pain medication by 50% (so far). Combined with the home exercise regimen & food changes that she recommended, we have gotten great results. Dr. Williams and staff are awesome! They truly care about your fur babies. She listens to your concerns and explains all the options. She has been doing acupuncture on our cat Spot for his stomatitis and he has improved greatly. It's amazing to watch her stick the needles in his face, back, legs and hips, he just lays there and will fall asleep if I don't talk to much. We highly recommend Dr. Williams for all kinds of care. Staff are freindly and knowledgeable. We love having natural options. Prices are very reasonable. Give her a month and you will be amazed at the difference in your fur baby! Having seen Dr. Williams for over 10 years, I am stunned to read some of the reviews on this page! I love Dr. Williams and her practice, she goes beyond the beyond to do the very best for all of my animals and always has. I have even called her with after hours emergencies and she hasn't let me down. She euthanised the only two dogs I have ever lost in my life, and I can imagine going to no-one else. She offers so much more than just Western medicine, and pharmaceuticals, she has Holistic options, including Chinese medicine, she adjusts backs, uses aromatherapy, does surgeries, has teeth cleaning specials, is careful not to overhydrate a sick dog, I could go on. Who do you know who can make a paralysed dog walk again, after acupuncture? Go to Compassionate Care with your furbaby, you will NOT be disappointed. Read Less

I'm excited we found a vet who is holistic and supports raw feeding. My pup experienced a nice, soft, fabric covered exam table, calming classical music playing, calming essential oils sprayed in the room, Chinese herbs instead of synthetic chemical drugs, a vet and tech who interacted with him rather than checking boxes off on a computer screen, titer test which may allow us to skip some shots, therapeutic exercises to help correct problems. I'm not a big fan of Western medicine and use several alternatives.  When we were adopted by our first cat, I wanted someone to care for her the same way.  Dr. Williams does acupuncture, chiro, and uses essential oils.  When she makes a recommendation, she explains why and often has several options.  The staff is wonderful!  They treat me and my pets like family.  We work with feral cats and when we have to trap one for treatment or spay/neuter, we plan the trapping so that she can provide the care.  We've never had any problems with the feral cats when we release them.  Many vet offices try to sell you their products.  The staff here does not do that.  It's nice to go into a vet clinic that smells so good! This is the right place to be. You have very friendly ladies who work here and you never have to worry about being left in the dark, they explain everything to you. I'm sure you have been to a vet and they just tell you what you have to buy and don't tell you why or walk you through what's happening to your beloved pet. Well this place is the complete opposite. I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr Williams and her skills. I wish I could have brought her with me to the West Coast when I had to move for work. She is kind, knowledgeable, and forthright about the needs of your pets... Treating them as if they are her own. I have had two senior dogs that were rescues in kidney failure that she kept happy and comfortable- going above and beyond what any other vet would have done. Her expertise has in blending eastern and western veterinary medicine inspired me to seek natural options whenever possible in my own health care. My dogs and I love and miss her dearly! been twice and i'm satisfied.  my friend mentioned this place for her dog that has back problems.  my olive has knee issues so we decided to try acupuncture.  i called and the staff told me to get olive's records before the dr. will see her.  once i did i was able to get an appointment right away.  when you go to this place the office is in the back of the complex and i like it since there are lots of trees back there.  the staff is very friendly and olive is pretty cooperative.  will be back. STEER CLEAR!!! If you move out of the city or state, they will treat you like dirt. They will tell you that you are not longer a client so do not matter at all. I have been simply trying to get my cats' medical records. Apparently the fax and email are not functioning on their end, so I have yet to receive them ... after half a dozen tries and phone calls. They also DO NOT allow you to ask any questions about opinions on your animal's state of health at the time they were seen. I am currently filing a complaint with the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Ironic that I have to file an official complaint to urge Dr. Williams to act compassionately towards me and send me the medical records. Please, unless you want unnecessary stress, find another vet. The name "Compassionate Care" is quite inaccurate. It seems like all that matters to Dr. Williams is how much money you are bringing in. Once the money stops flowing, you are thrown out with the garbage. Read Less

I have been using Dr. Williams for the past 10 years. She has treated 5 of my Boxer's over this time most of them from birth through end of life. I have always found her to be insightful, understanding, compassionate and patient. She is a wonderful Vet and I would not consider any other vet in the area. This was my first visit to Dr. Williams and I was very pleased. My cat was attacked by a stray cat in my backyard and I was able to get a same day appointment. Office is clean and inviting. Staff are attentive and Dr. Williams is extremely nice and knowledgeable. She explained everything she was doing and why. Did not try to sell me anything I didn't need and made sure I was comfortable administering meds at home. Prices are very reasonable. She not only provides traditional medicine but clinic does offer wholistic approach as well. Can buy food, supplements etc in house if you so choose. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience at this practice and the results I'm seeing with my shepherd's allergy issues. I have taken all of my dogs to Dr. Williams and always highly recommend her to all my friends and clients. As a holistic practitioner myself, I prefer holistic treatment when possible and she does chiropractic, acupuncture and herbal medicine as well as traditional. She is highly knowledgable about nutrition and will recommend diets that are much more palatable and much more nutritious than what traditional vets recommend. She also avoids recommending unnecessary tests and treatments. Her fees are quite reasonable and much lower for certain treatments than I have paid at other vets. (Example...$20.00 for an injectable glucosamine that I paid $53.00 for at another office) She prefers the gentlest possible treatments for any condition. I do not vaccinate my older pets for everything under the sun and she avoids over-vaccinating. Interestingly, the atmosphere is so calm there that animals tend to be very calm for their treatments, and they all seem friendly to one another. She is San Antonio's Dr. Dolittle! There are some disadvantages, one being that she has no xray equipment and has to refer patients to another vet that she works with for certain tests. However, I have experienced this also, and still have paid lower than normal fees for the work. She will also make house calls but of course must charge extra for that. I know there are many excellent caring vets in San Antonio, and I have used, and still sometimes use their services when necessary, such as xrays and ultrasounds, but Dr. Maria Williams is at the top of my list.
