This place was ran well at one time. Now the hospital is completely 100% profit driven, which is a shame. It should also be said that Sarah is one of the worst type of people one can encounter within the animal health industry. The motto of this facility expressed to me by her is one that is indicative of "money first and pet owners/animals last". Some working here may not even include the animal on the scale of importance to be honest. I am fully aware that the services of a vet deserve a premium. Considering that I am in a professional field, I can appreciate and understand the costs of professional services. Unethical, dishonest and heartless are traits that I cannot understand-nor do I consider these traits as professional. However, be forewarned,this place really does not have the animal's health as the main concern simply because of all of the unprofessional staff that engage in behavior that is totally unethical. I am sure others have experienced the same and I hope and encourage all that have to post a review to collectively warn others that your wallet is the main concern here. And don't take my word for it, there a even other reviews specifically mentioning Sarah too. Sadly, the front office really makes the doctors and techs look culpable and bad. The office manager(s) should sincerely find another profession, as she has lost mine and potent slyly created a massive loss of potential business. I wonder if the white coat vets are aware of the business practices of those who run the front? In essence, I would also like those who read this to know this has nothing to do with an unwillingness to pay a given rate. This review is based on dishonest and unethical practices, treatment, experienced, as well as failure to honor mutual agreed upon agreements. They say one thing and do another. Check your invoices, your credit transactions, and do not trust anything or you may be unpleasantly surprised. The health and well-being of the animal should be the main concern but I have seen & heard this place treat even long term customers as nothing more than a disposable piece of garbage that can easily be replaced by another unknowing newbie that will be treated well until a problem arises At times, it is as if the pet is nothing more than a transactional tool and a piece of trash/that oddly ultimately is also seen as a valuable dollar bill. My experience has made me want to share my true story in its entirety so others can fully understand how I and others have collectively been treated. This story will be written, shared, and viralized. The more who read it the better. We are in the process of also starting a pet owner info campaign that will initially have a minimum of 8 million combined current followers from all sources, so that those who love their pets and are treated as I was can create a highly visible statement warning others of "profit first people/pets last" vet clinics. Since we are all SEO Trained these testimonies and entries will appear alongside the given facilities in Google search results too. Many of these people are San Antonio residents or have a connection or business in San Antonio. This campaign will be Far More than just a simple review forum. Additionally, We will post and direct followers to call to action resources pertaining to how/where to file all types of Vet complaints--from ethical, financial, health and medical practices in addition to the agency links and contact info. For example, Ethics complaints are taken seriously especially when there is a large number of them from different people. Collectively, we hope to create accountability & positive changes for pets and pet owners. This campaign & story won't just become another old review as we will continually revise the campaign as the supporters and our followers increase spread it. As pet owners we can also share resources and acknowledge & reward those Facilities who place our pets first with an influx of business. We walked in with our cat who had a skin condition. Met the techs and Dr for the first time. Our cat was very calm with them. The front desk gals are friendly and informative. I have been visiting Dodd Animal Hospital for 7 years. I have rescued 5 dogs in that time and the staff had always been kind and helpful. I especially love their boarding service and leave my dogs multiple times a year and am always greeted with a smile and a dog treat for my dogs. Most recently my husband was hospitalized during a vacation and they were understanding about the last minute boarding extension. I would definitely recommend them. I am very disappointed and upset with Dodd Animal Hospital and staff. I went in this morning, shortly after they opened, because my 6 week Yorkie was not feeling well (but he was alive). The receptionist/technician told me that the Veterinarian/Doctor was not in because he/she was running late due to traffic. Then one of the technicians took me to an examining room and left me there to fill out some paper work. After waiting for more than 40 minutes, my puppy DIED! I told the technician that my puppy had died and all she said was "oh my gosh" and left to call someone but by then it was too late so I left. I pray that they don't treat other patients (pets) in the same manner that they treated us. It was very inconsiderate and heartless! Read Less

This place is AWESOME. I took my puppy here for his set of shots and they were nice and walked me through the process. The prices are great because I been to other animal hospitals and their prices are much higher. They included me a free puppy food bag and clipped his nails for free.Read Less

Floyd was the first technician we met when we took my Shadow to Dodds. She was very sick and didn't like to go to the Dr. After a complete work up due to her age (13yrs) she was diagnosed with Cushings Dis. For which she is being treated. Shadow doesn't mind her Dr visits anymore. She loves Dodds & the staff. The staff is very helpful in helping us take care of her & always have her medication ready for us. She also suffers from allergies for which Dr Vestal helps us keep under control. Having moved here from Ne. we are very pleased with Dodds Animal Hosp.Read Less

Took my pug, Lola for spaying procedure. This animal hospital is absolutely fantastic! The premises are impeccably clean, the staff is friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and professional. NEVER will I ever go anywhere else for my dog's well-being. After the surgery, they even called the following day to ask how my Lola was doing. Wow!!!! I was pleasantly flaggerbasted. I took my dog to Dodd Animal Hospital yesterday after having taken her last week to her regular veterinarian. She was sick and I was terrified!! Dr. Donald Vestal, D.V.M. and owner of Dodd recommended we do a geriatric workup as she is 14. He told me he reccomends this at age 8 but no one had ever mentioned this to me. After these tests were done I was even more concerned to learn how sick she really is. Dr. Vestal explained everything to me in words I could understand and showed me the X-ray. A course of treatment has been established and I have hope for her full recovery. Their staff and Dr. Vestal were very kind and loving to my dog and I am beyond thankful for my decision to take her there!!! They don't deserve ANY stars! These people have No bedside manners. I was told, "If you came in for a quick fix, well you came to the wrong place." What is that supposed to mean? I had to hear about men getting prostrate cancer. I could care less, I don't like OLD men anyway! $410.00 later, they couldn't tell me what was wrong with my dog! At first I was irritated. They had me waiting a long time. Rather than let me know the Dr had to take a phone call, it would be a little wait, they just left me waiting. I was about to walk out when the staff explained that to me. On that note, it was well worth the wait! The vet tech was great. I appreciated how he interacted with my dogs. He was knowledgeable. Then I met the Dr.! Fantastic! He really took the time to examine my dogs. He discovered and addressed a few problems with them that I wasn't aware of! He worked with me on finding solutions to problems I was having in treating them! He discussed at home remedies! I'm so sorry I don't have his name, he is one of three DR's there! I will be back! My "old" vet had moved away, and I needed a new vet, and under the worst of circumstances, my oldest cat, at 23 was going to cross the rainbow bridge. The team at Dodd was beyond awesome, especially since Daddy was a basket case. That day the earned my business for life. My beloved kitten Shadow is being taken care of by this clinic. I feel so confident in their care of her, that i have not been worrying at all. She has feline herpes and the staff has been answering all mu questions and getting the doctor when they didnt know. There was a point that I had to ask a hard question and I could not get the words out, the doctor picked up on it and was able to address my unspoken question with great grace and diplomacy. I have moved in and out of San Antonio for work, and have been to Dodd on and off for a few years. I've dealt with different vet companies in San Antonio, Dallas and Austin. The people at Dodd are consistently nice and the clinic is always very clean. The pricing is also very fair and competitive. My dog had needed a rabies vaccinne and the place we normaly take her was too expensive and they don't take appointments. We found Dodd Vet Clinic on a whim. The staff was very helpful. We paid $50 less than the other vet plus received 2 extra shots that were going to be needed next month. The front desk and assistant were very nice and explained eveything to us. Just a few minutes ago, the office called and ask how our dog was doing after the shots. We never recieved this thoughtfulness at our last clinic. Dodds is definely something special! Read Less

I am so disappointed with this office. I took my dog Benji there on Friday afternoon since he had a horrible red rash all over his body and he was hot to the touch. He was very lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink anything. Our other dog thunder had been attacked by a Siberian husky that Monday, so we were not the greatest on funds since his medical bills were through the roof. I advised the vet and the techs of my situation and they did blood work on him, injected him with a type of Benadryl I believe and a steroid to help with his rash. The vet and tech told me this rash should start to go down within the next 24 hours. On Sunday morning Benji was walking very slowly, since Friday his rash had gotten worse, turned into hives and he wouldn't leave the spot he laid in at all. I had to force him to go outside to use the restroom and he wasn't drinking any water or eating. He hadn't changed since I took him to this office, if anything he got worse. I took him to Becker animal hospital since I was worried and knew he needed to be taken care of ASAP. They did blood work and said that he has an allergic reaction to something and a very bad infection. They also said he was extremely dehydrated. They injected him with fluids and antibiotics. They sent him home and said to bring him back Monday for more antibiotics and injections. His fever had gone down from 104.8 when I took him to this clinic on Friday to 102 on Sunday. I spoke to the office manager on Monday morning, and asked if there was any way I can be reimbursed for the treatment for my dog, Benjiz, since they had done nothing to help him other than "his fever went down 2 degrees" from what the office manager kept insisting. She kept saying that his blood work had no sign of dehydration, so they didn't treat him for that. Just the rash. I told the manager, but you didn't fix it. Nothing improved. But she insisted that his temp went down two degrees. BUT HIS RASH WAS STILL HORRIBLE, EVEN WORSE. I was at work at the time and didn't have time to argue. My dog is sick, and was dehydrated and all they did in my opinion was make things worse. Not to mention the "owner" of the clinic wasn't even there so noting could even be done until he came back. So explain to me, what is the point of having an office manager?  I will continue to use VCA Mission animal hospital, as I should've went there in the first place but I wanted him to get seen ASAP. I will not come back here, and I really do wish this clinic gets better at their jobs. I have never been more upset. I was not refunded anything, to add to this. I will never use this place for my dog again! I am not at all pleased with their boarding service. My large breed dog went there happy, energetic and full of vitality. When I picked him up three days later, he seemed very disoriented and walked with a limp. I don't know what they did to him. It has been one week since I brought him home and he is still not the happy, frisky, playful dog he used to be before I took him to Dodd. On the other hand, two of my friends took their dog there and theirs came out fine. But somehow, they messed up when it came to taking proper care of my dog. Read Less

i've been using this vet for years. my favorite vets at the clinic have since retired, but the new group of vets are very competent, and they explain a lot more details about what they are doing and what their expectations for my animals are. the techs are fantastic, and the front of the house is incredible. this is not the cheapest vet (i spent $1000 on the last visit for three annual checkups plus 12 months of total pest control), but i wouldn't go anywhere else.i have also used their boarding facilities. easy to use and relatively inexpensive. when i leave for a week or two at a time, i trust my three dogs and cat to the staff. i've always been satisfied. Dodd's Animal Hospital has been providing health services,boarding, and grooming services for my pets for about five years. I am especially impressed with Becky's artistic grooming hands. She does a wonderful job with my Shihtzu. I am a very picky pet owner and I worry about boarding my Shihtzu because he can be very insecure. When I leave him at Dodds, he comes back to me in a good mood. The reception desk staff is also great, always ready to answer questions, always calm and caring. I like the technicians (Mary and Donna) who have done the dental cleaning on my dog. Dr. Gonzalez is very thorough when examining my dogs; he knows what to ask about my pets' behavior. The Dodd facility has been upgraded to a larger space, more personnel and the same small town feel it has always had. Although I tend to the once-a-year approach, I do board my dogs for the annual two week vacation. The front room staff has been the same for at least a decade, so they know each customer and each customers' animals. Management is first-rate, in that the vets hire well-qualified and enthusiastic professional care support. The philosophy of the hospital is to provide the care you can afford, and offer additional care when one is financially ready. They don't push the meds. They don't push the elective invasive practices. They simply offer choices that you can engage in at a later date. [my dog needs a deep teeth workout, but it involves anesthesia, and a night's stay...i was given an offer of treatment available for the next six months for a reasonable $250...so know I can save for that].
