Dr. Kirlin and his awesome staff were wonderful! I took my 7 month old puppy to be neutered at the Humane Society on Friday and by Saturday he was extremely swollen. I took him back n was told that it was normal because he is a large breed dog, to continue the medicine he was given when discharged after surgery and if he wasnt better by Tues to take him back. My puppy got really bad really fast but instead of taking him back I decided to take him to Dr. Kirlin. Thank God I did because he acted quickly and treated my puppy. I took him in at 8am very sad, tail between his legs, head down and barely wanting to walk. When I showed up at 5pm to pick him up he came out prancing w his head held high, tail up in the air wagging away n ran to me for hugs n kisses. They had cleaned his wound, done hydrotherapy, got him some pain meds and started him on antibiotics. Everything my puppy needed to start his journey to recovery. He isn't outta the woods yet but I trust and believe that under Dr. Kirlin's care my baby boy will make a full recovery. I am EXTREMELY GRATEFUL! God bless Dr. Kirlin n his staff. Read Less

Was happy with this clinic until I felt as if appointment length and procedures were being dragged out to run up the cost at last appointment. Since we had recently paid $700 to have our dogs teeth cleaned, looks like doc thought he could run up bill without any resistance. Sure enough, when I was handed a bill for $500 for x rays and (probably unnecessary) labs to investigate limp/injury to front leg, I informed the receptionist that I would pay the bill but would never return. Vets can probably get away with charging the same that I would pay my doctor for a similar investigation on my human leg, but not twice as much. One month later, limp is still there, and we are taking our dog to an orthopedic vet specialist. Read Less

All veterinary care is expensive, but if you take on the responsibility of a pet you should be prepared to care for them.   Dr Kirlin and staff are very professional and caring. If you have a beloved pet this is the place to go. My 14 year old papillon developed a limp after climbing the stairs, so I took him in, and Dr Kirlin quickly diagnosed a torn knee joint. Judging from some of the reviews some might complain that the blood test to make sure that his kidneys could handle the pain medication was unnecessary and expensive, however I thought it was a brilliant responsible move on his part, I could not imagine what the treatment for damaged kidneys would have been. He also recommended that we use this test to also screen for his badly needed teeth cleaning (saved me doing the test twice) test was good, we got pain meds and canine glucosamine. He was walking on all fours the next day. I took him in for his dental cleaning, he needed 6 teeth extracted, I was on pins and needles til they called. I could not believe when I came to collect him he was up and perky. Keep in mind he's 14. went home with antibiotics and pain meds, and he's like a new dog now. I can't imagine how those teeth hurt, I delayed the cleaning because I was afraid of the anesthetics, very bad move on my part. My advise is take your pet and have the cleaning done.  I would also like to add that Dr Kirlin recommended some weight loss dog food, and he's lost 2 ponds in a few weeks, and he loves it. Expensive? yes but you can rest assured that your best friend is in very good hands. Read Less

This place is ridiculously expensive. They could save themselves, and us, some money, if they got rid of the clueless staff. The receptionist and nurses have ZERO personality.  They love to recommend the most expensive procedures, whether it is best for your pet, or not.  It is obvious, that the price of the large, expensive building, is being passed along to the customers.I made the mistake of returning a second time, due to an emergency.  The only remaining vet (the owner) was extremely rude - unbelievably so.  His "solution" didn't work, and ten days later, I went to another vet, and her diagnosis was correct. While waiting in the lobby, one Alamo Heights woman was screeching into her cell phone.  When told that her dog was likely inoperable, she said, "Oh, well, time for Doggy Heaven," and walked out.  I think this location counts on the big bucks, minus compassion. My little cat, Nasdaq was having some problems, so I frantically took him into Eagle Veterinary Hospital. I was able to see them same day, about an hour after I called, which was a relief, because I was worried about my cat! They gladly accepted him, and called me throughout the day to give me updates on what's going on with my cat. I really appreciated that! I wasn't too pleased with the bill though. I felt like I was getting nickeled and dimed on every possible charge. $4.50 for 'waste disposal.' What are they doing with the waste? Going on a mission like Lord of the Rings to throw it in a volcano?! What kind of waste are they throwing away anyhow?! Cat turd? I did like the fact that Dr. Kirlin had color microscope pictures of my cat's pee. That was kinda cool, he had a few crystals in there, and you could really get a good look at it. I never thought I'd look so closely at cat pee. It's kinda beautiful, actually. When I picked Nasdaq up, he was shaken, but glad to see me. They sent me home with some specialty cat food, which cost about an arm and a leg. They didn't send me with very much of it either. I felt like I got suckered into the cat food, and could have probably bought the same stuff at HEB for a fraction of the price. But I'm not about to take my sick cat to the grocery store, so I bit the bullet and paid up. Read Less

I know the other reviewer here, Fawn G and her sweet little pup, Sherrif (or Sherrie as we call her on walks in Brakenridge Park) so had I read her review first I probably never would have booked an appointment for my pets at Eagle Vet Hospital. And miss Fawn, I love you girl and I'm sad to hear you and the baby had such a bad experience! But. I didn't see the review, I simply booked the appointment for Mocha and Kitty based on recommendations from my neighbors. Mocha and Meow Meow are my two elderly pets. Mocha is a 9 year old chocolate lab and Meow Meow is a 13 year old kitty. Mocha needs constant attention and love and the kitty, well she's probably gonna live forever on attitude and spunk. They both needed wellness visits but Mocha also had an ear infection (or so I thought). We arrived for our appointment a bit early an filled out our paperwork. The staff was so friendly and instantly treated my little loves like they'd known them forever. It made me feel Instantly at ease. Mocha got ear scratches and belly rubs and the kitty got a complimentary nail trim and didn't even try to gouge anyone's eyes. If you only knew my kitty, this is a serious feat. Also in my phone call booking the appt I asked lots of questions and got straight answers so I was actually not surprised by any costs, which is good.I felt immediately at ease with Dr. Martinez. She is young and fun but really knows her stuff. I told her how my dog can be aggressive towards vets (please read my horrific experience at Schertz Animal Hospital. NEVER go to THAT vet. Please.) She graciously took that info and spent a lot of extra time with Mocha and loved her and made her comfortable and Mocha didn't even mind getting her temp taken, which has always been her hardest part. I can't stress how much this meant to me. I will sing her praises forever and ever, amen, praise the baby Jesus. Ok so her bedside manner is out of this world. But she's also a great vet. I thought Mocha had an ear infection or possibly ear mites. She showed many symptoms and I expected that diagnosis. Another vet had given that diagnosis but the treatment didn't work. This doctor looked immediately at the sore on her ear and recognized ringworm. Ringworm! And have me medicine for that. I'll admit. I thought she was wrong and reluctantly took the diagnosis. Guess what? She was right and two days later with the medicine, Mocha's ears were getting better and the "sore" was gone. I'm so thankful to her for for this diagnosis. My dog is older and that's hard enough so these ear problems were an extra nuisance that kept us from having a happy life together. I am so happy I found this vet and I can't recommend her enough! I am the "use your local business" type of gal and I definitely don't like traveling for doctors visits. Typically for doctors, I use friend's recommendations but this decision came from my local business hunch. Initially I set up a well visit for my 5 month puppy and was sure to ask all the necessary pre-appointment questions. I set the appointment, came in to the top notch facility and was disappointed on several levels. I'll keep it very simple with a list of reasons for star deductions.Star deduction reason 1: I set up an appointment for $100 visit which included the vet exam, DHLPP and some other important vaccine, everything I needed to make sure my pup was in tip top shape (or so I'm told). During our visit with the nurse she asked if I would like a fecal test to check for viruses/bugs/internal stuff which cost an additional $25. Miscommunication on the receptionists part, bottom line: star deduction, let's move on. Star deduction reason #2: I'm not sure if this is standard practice, but my dog was taken out of the exam room to be examined and weighed. The vet came in, briefly introduced herself and went on with a barrage of questions and prognosis. Assuming I graduated from Veterinary school, I explained to her to please break it down for me, she told me his rare condition and how abnormal it was. It made me uncomfortable to hear this from someone who didn't explain how else his check up went. I had to ask for those details.  Star deduction #3: Upon hearing the rather disturbing "abnormality" my dog has, I requested an estimate for the surgery should 6 months roll around and find it necessary to proceed. I was baffled by the nurses attempt to explain things and prices, then the vet intervened, then I had to explain myself (as a concerned customer), then I felt confused. Then the vet decided that pointing fingers was necessary to right the miscommunication with the receptionist. I got the estimate (roughly $756). I went to pay my bill and $74 was due. When I asked where the $100 came from when I set the original appointment, the receptionist stated "I declined the fecal test". Instead of continuing the debacle, I thought to myself "that was because the nurse explained to me it would $25 more than my $100 visit!" What an embarrassment of miscommunication which suffocates clientele, employees and this business! Star deduction reason #4: I call around the next day thanks to my friends referrals from all over the city. The surgery ranged from $65 to $375. The vaccines range from $36 - $85.  All of the people I spoke with said how common his problem was. The vet wasn't too far off on the prognosis, but she could have handled delivering the news better in my opinion. If the service was spectacular, the GINORMOUS difference in price wouldn't concern me as much (everyone has different rates). The clinic could also use some "how to communicate with your coworkers" motivational classes. Until then Sheriff and I are on the hunt for a clinic that gives us the warm happy feelings!

Read Less
