Healing Hands Veterinary Hospital

San Antonio, Texas
General Info
Healing Hands Veterinary Hospital in Texas transforms environmental response into medical rhythm. The care space in San Antonio initiates its calming effect from the moment a pet crosses its threshold. The lighting elements become diffused while auditory environments achieve softened states. The design lacks distinct boundaries and immediate access points. Through the use of low platforms and view breaks combined with staggered interaction zones pets receive controlled freedom within set limits. Staff movement responds to detected patterns where fast blinks and tucked limbs combined with shifting hips cause pauses or resets. Posture reflection initiates communication before any tools or tone come into play. Healing Hands Veterinary Hospital provides an array of services including chronic pain assessment, multi-organ diagnostic evaluations, age-related treatment adjustments, metabolic and endocrine monitoring, and preventive dental care. The examination process unfolds through distinct stages including the entry phase, recognition phase, interaction phase, and exit rhythm. When a pet's breathing patterns alter or they position themselves behind furniture the session undergoes adjustment without progression. Discharge includes sensory-mapped plans: when to make eye contact how to offer proximity and where to position hands during home care routines. Families receive instruction to guide pets through mirroring techniques instead of dominant methods which assist animals in regaining their natural rhythms following clinical sessions. Healing Hands Veterinary Hospital distinguishes itself in San Antonio and across Texas by basing its care on anticipatory methods, pattern recognition, and motion-induced comfort instead of procedural pressure.

My dog Otis came to La Cantar as a PT patient in mid January. Quickly, he became a PT patient after a diagnosis of multiple neuro problems and subsequent surgery. Dr Thompson was encouraging, yet realistic about Otis's outcome but was willing to give him the time and effort to recover as long as she perceived that it was on the best therapeutic interests of my dog. He comes every day for water treadmill and various PT therapies such as acupuncture and laser therapy. Considering the care he is given, the cost is more than reasonable. This week Otis has started walking in the water treadmill and I believe it is only a matter of time before is able to begin walking on land. This would have not happened without the dedicated work of Dr Thompson and her team, especially Jason, the amazing therapy tech who has worked with Otis from start until today. Β Otis can be a difficult dog but Jason never gave up. Otis improvement is because of Jason.I recommend this clinic to each and every pet owner, not just for vaccinations, but also for the overall wellness of their pets. Read Less

My dog is paralyzed (has ivdd, and had an unsuccessful discectomy surgery to correct the problem). As a follow up, our surgeon suggested PT. We brought our dog to la cantar for 6 physical therapy treatments post op and not once did the vet tech or Doctor explain how the treatments went for the day. Every single day at pick up they would just hand me my dog and not explain anything. I was fighting tooth and nail to get info, for example "how did he do today, how was his anxiety, does the dr want me to do any stretches or exercises with him today". I got absolutely nothing in response. On the final day of pick up, the dr never even came out to give me final discharge instructions or any guidance on how to go forward with him after therapy. Just sent the tech out with my dog to give to me. That was my final straw, I said I needed some documentation, some instructions or something to go home with so I can show my dog's regular vet his progression or lack there of. Also, my dog needs to be manually expressed. On some days when I went to pick him up, they didn't express him. I'd remove him from his kennel and he'd be drenched in his own urine. I provided them diapers for that, and they never put them on. Come to think of it, I've never met the dr, only the vet techs. I vowed to not go back.Fast forward a few weeks: I am selling my house, so it's hard to do showings with my dog, so I wanted to board him while realtors were coming through. Not all places will take a special needs dog. So I called la cantar in a pinch, and sure enough they agreed to watch him with a $5 per day extra charge for nursing care. When we picked him up today he REEKED. His stench was so awful. Since he is paralyzed he doesn't know if he is using the bathroom. He smelled of his own feces, like no one had wiped his bottom and hind legs. That's part of the nursing charge, you have to do a little extra care. Also, his eyes were bloodshot red. I asked the tech to have the dr take a look. She comes out and asks "how long has he been like this, has he been squinting?". Are you really asking me? He's been in your care all week, you tell me! He was fine when I dropped him off 8 days ago. She said "oh, ok. Well he has conjunctivitis". We waited 20 minutes for her to return with some meds and she never did. We had to leave because we had work obligations. We thought we could trust la cantar, it's really our fault. We already knew what kind of service they provided, but out of our own desperation we chose to go back. Read Less

Tey were able to find solutions for my dog that after visiting and spending lots of money at different offices could not find. This a review about their costumer service.I had to contact them twice because no one returned my first call (as promised). It was a dispute about a charge for a routine cat visit (stray) without checking for a chip before all shots and test were done. I was able to talk to an employee (although I had asked to talk to the owner). He was not apologetic at all and said that we consented to the treatment (I said: what about following guidelines about checking for the microchip, he was unaware of the guidelines posted by the AVMA and the State of Texas). When asked: what can you do about this? He simply said: We will make sure that this doesn't happen again. Which did not make me happy (I was clearly upset and let him know it, because I know that if I do not let users know, this WILL happen again to someone else). I asked to be reimbursed for at least the fecal testing and meds that were not used at all. He agreed (although I would have liked for them to proposed this right from the start). I checked the ranking of this place, it's #14 in the city, please go to the other 13 just out of principal, I am very tired of the lack of costumer service and the scams to get more money out of your wallet by any means necessary. Tey were able to find solutions for my dog that after visiting and spending lots of money at different offices could not find. My dog has a sensitive stomach as well as a low tear production, they gave me medication that helped her tremendously and for such a costly medication did not over charge me. They even referred me to a specialist if I wanted to seek out other options. Read Less

We brought in our elderly barn cat, who is not used to other people or places for her annual check and vaccinations, all went exceedingly well, thanks to the calm handling by Jason and Dr. Thompson. What in the past elsewhere had been a traumatic experience for her she was relaxed and at ease. The treatment for our dogs has been wonderful, many thanks to an efficient staff and always very competent care. We appreciate that attention is given to all of our questions about any procedures or medications, we never feel rushed. Read Less

I have known Dr. Thompson for many years and know she is not only extremely knowledgeable, but very compassionate and concerned for her patients,(clients). The staff is friendly and professional. They care about your pet and your concerns, and try to do whatever they can to make a trip to the Vet easier. My dog is a big fan of La Cantar. She can't wait to get inside and greet the staff, and pulls to go down the hall to see Dr. Thompson. This is after eight years of shots, blood draws and whatever else to keep her healthy. My dog is still happy to go to the Vet. Must be a good place!! Read Less

Outstanding clinic with expert and compassionate staff. We have 5 dogs and every one of them has been treated multiple times at La Cantar. They treat our "puppies" as if they were their own. Between La Cantar Animal Hospital and Missionary Veterinary Specialists (for specialized surgeries), our little ones are leading happy lives to their fullest! One thing to note: they have excellent alternate therapies that have worked wonders on our dogs (laser therapy, acupuncture, treadmill, and Chinese herbs). They really do everything in their power to help you keep you loved ones happy and healthy. , Read Less

Dr. Thompson is personable and attentive. Great vet hospital! I was a little skeptical at first, when my vet of 25 years sold his practice, but Dr Thompson is wonderful. Β I have two Maltese dogs and two cats that she takes care of. Β My young agility dog had two knee surgeries in Austin and then broke her leg. Β The surgeon said he wasn't sure she would ever do agility again, but Dr. Thompson worked with her doing physical therapy, laser therapy and the underwater treadmill. Β My dog is so tiny (4.2 lbs.) and was so nervous in the tank that Dr. Thompson even got in the tank with her every time she went walking. Β Now my baby is as strong as ever Β and running in agility shows again. Dr Thompson was a life saver. Β Her staff are all very caring individuals. Β Wouldn't go anywhere else, even though she is on the other side of town from where we live. Read Less
