My family has taken our pets here for over 20 years and no problems until today. I brought my daughters cat up as a walk in . The cat had developed an infection in her left eye to where she doesn't want to open it. I was informed by receptionist that Dr Meier was out to lunch and no walk ins would be seen today as he has appointments the rest of the day. I could make an appointment for late tomorrow afternoon or 1 day next week. The vet tech and receptionist seemed more concerned about their phones and social media . The tech didn't offer any assistance. I guess they enjoy losing 20 + year relationships. I checked with other nearby vets and they said bring her in and we can work her in. They should change their sign and remove that they accept walk ins. Read Less

Dr. Meier, Ralissa, and David are the best of the best! I run an animal rescue organization and have been going to Leon Valley for years for both my personal pets and for all of my rescue animals' care. Dr. Meier takes exceptional care of every animal that walks through his door, and is always willing to go the extra mile for his patients. A few months ago my dog got into a container of soap and nearly died - Dr. Meier provided exceptional supportive care for my pup and I truly don't think that Abel would be here today if it weren't for him! The staff at Leon Valley treat me like family and are always asking for updates on the dogs and cats in the rescue. They truly care about every animal they see and provide the best, most compassionate care that I have seen in the San Antonio area. Read Less

My Service Dog/canine bestie needed her rabies shot. I'm po', and wasn't sure if I could afford the annual exam, including the full vaccine regimen. (Times are tough right now.) I went back, and forth with the staff about whether I'd just get the rabies shot, or the whole panel of injections. At the very last minute, as the doctor came in with three syringes, I told him, and his assistant that I could only afford the legally mandated rabies vaccine for now. Everyone I encountered was respectful, and helpful. Two different women helped me with the doors, and one moved a chair, so that I could maneuver my mobility scooter around the small office. The doctor had a gentle enough demeanor that he calmed my skittish puppy girl. This was supposed to be a one time visit, as I'm moving to the far northeast side in a few days, and figured I'd find our next veterinarian near my new home. But I think that I might be back for the rest of fuzzy butt's vaccines in the future, when I'm in the area for my own doctors' appointments. Down one star due to lack of Service Dog discount, but they gain it back with their sweetness, and allowing me to be a walk-in on a busy Saturday morning. Read Less

One of the four stray kittens in my backyard was taken to this hospital on 09/22/15 her name was Precious and she was 5 months old. Precious had not eaten for two days, was walking slowly and not acting herself. The doctor sedated the kitten in order to do an exam and blood test. I let him know that the kitten had never had any vaccines due to an upper respiratory virus. That afternoon the doctor called my boyfriend to tell him that the blood test came in and there were a lot of abnormalities in her blood. He went on to say that he could not find anything wrong with Precious. When my boyfriend went in to pick up the pet the doctor came out to greet him and let him know that he could not figure out what was wrong with her. My boyfriend told the doctor "so something is wrong, the cat hasn't eaten for two days and all of these readings are off, what is causing all of this?". The doctors exact answer was the following " I am as perplexed as you are". The doctor suggested that we try different foods to see if she would eat. After trying all kinds of foods and getting nowhere we felt that something very serious was going on. On 09/25/15 my boyfriend took Precious in to Town and Country Veterinary Hospital for a second opinion. At this point Precious had declined considerably and was not the same cat she used to be. After an examination and a blood test for possible diseases Precious tested positive for Feline Distemper (panleukopenia) the virus has a fatality rate of 90% is deadly and extremely contagious. Today is 09/28/15, three of the stray kittens have died from this illness including Precious. If only this virus was diagnosed sooner proper isolation and treatment would have started right away without wasting precious time against this deadly illness more lives would have been saved. Friend, learn from our experience and if your pet is sick DO NOT GO to Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital!!!Read Less

I have been going to Leon Valley Vet for over two years, with my Goldendoodle and two cats, and now my puppy Bouvipoo. Dr. Meier is always effective and efficient, and goes out of his way to save you money and find OTC (people) drugs that will work for the situation. I called around to several vets all over the city, and found this one to be the most reasonably priced. Their receptionists are professional and kind, and the vet tech I always work with is truly excellent. Their product recommendations for pest protection and dental maintenance work well, and check out when I check consumer reviews online. I don't care for his substitute veterinarian(s), who have brusk attitudes in my experience, but they do the job just fine. Sometimes the clinic smells like cat, but that's only when they neuter tom cats for their stray services, from what I understand; don't let it turn you off. Read Less

I took my senior cat to this vet for a respiratory problem. The first thing they wanted to do was bloodwork (very expensive) just because she was an older cat. They had stated it was standard procedure to do this on a senior cat whether it had any thing to do with her problem or not. I was given anti-biotics, which didn't help, and charged over $200 for the bloodwork which wasn't even necessary for her problem. A 20 minute session cost me over $250 with no resolution. They also took my cat into a different area and left me waiting in the exam room by myself. They didn't necessarily do any thing terrible or wrong, I just didn't get a comfortible feeling with them and I felt they were trying to get as much money out of me as possible. I went elsewhere for her follow-up and have decided not to got back to Leon Valley Veterinarian Hospital. Read Less

Office personnel were wonderful. I needed a Bordatello shot for our pup as my vet was closed and we were leaving our dog in a Doggie Spa for a few days. The girls took all the info and told me I could come right in as we were pressed for time. The young tech came out and she couldn't get the needle in our dog's neck so she gave it in the back. Our dog never even whimpers when our vet gives shots and if my husband hadn't been holding the dog's head she would have bit the girl. I really feel the girl needs a little more training both in giving shots and customer service. I hate to complain as the other girls were so pleasant and very helpful but this one really needed a attitude adjustment and more schooling. Thanks Read Less

Read Less

We have been through some tough times and tears with Dr. Meier's and he has always tries to find out the reason for the animals issues. He goes above and beyond - truly. We can't say enough about LVVH except we wish we would have found him a long time ago. Dr Meier's also picked out our new fur child! He's a God loving man and I trust him and his staff wholeheartedly.
