I'll explain why I removed a star, but first I must say that the doctors at Lincoln Heights, Dr Radicke and the pretty redhead (can't remember her name) are very knowledgeable veterinarians which isn't common enough to be expected these days. I didn't like Dr Radicke at first but the fact of the matter is, after all these years of being told Loki's cough was just allergies, Dr Radicke knew upon first exam that something was wrong with his heart. After the ECG and referring to a specialist it turned out he was correct. Pulmonary Hypertension of the right side is an expensive condition to treat, I don't think Dr Radicke expected us to be able to afford the medications because he barely mentioned them and sadly left the room after explaining Loki's condition. To be fair, I was crying. Loki is alive today, 10 months later, because of Dr Radicke and the medications. I bring all of my dogs into Lincoln Heights and the doctors have never pushed unnecessary, cost adding, tests. I removed a star because yesterday was the second time I was charged for something I never asked for and I know the doctor said was a free sample. I did question the girl at the front desk about it but didn't press the issue because it's possible that Dr Radicke assumed it was a promotional free sample but it was really paid for by the clinic. That's possible, and really I'd prefer a doctor who knew more about my pet's health than clinic administration and there have been visits where I felt like I was being under-charged by Dr Radicke. This place takes very good care of your fur babies, and is so easy to work with when you need to get in quickly, send shot records to day camps and doggy spas or if you need meds refilled. We've seen a number of the doctors over there and they're always sweet and very concerned. I think they go the extra mile on determining how to keep your pet comfortable. I'd score them a full five, but they're a bit pricey for what I'm used to from Houston. Honestly, all of the vets in the Alamo Heights area seem to be fairly pricey....so it's not specific to this business. And you do get what you pay for. I can walk out of this business and not worry about leaving my pet all day. Nice features are you can drop off in the morning and pick up after work. We've boarded here as well, and that worked out fine. If you live in the area, need a great vet who knows what he/she is doing....I'd recommend this place. Read Less

Overall, professional staff who provided support when our puppy Margret (Minatare Schnauzer) was at the brink of death. Margret contracted the parvo virus at just nine weeks. As soon as we got her we took her to Vetco to get her first round of shots but I am guessing it was already too late as three days later she started showing the typical signs of parvo (throwing up, bloody diarrhea, lethargic state, not eating or drinking) The vet (Dr. Radicke) at Lincoln Heights Animal Hospital ran a few test and determined she not only had parvo but also a bacterial infection. He treated her for the following three days with IV solutions and an antibiotic. He provided detail instructions and let us take Margret home every day. Now she is feeling great and back to her old self. My wife and I are thrilled to see Margret back to her old self running around and chewing on everything! In the end we are very satisfied with the care the staff provided, even to the extent that Dr. Radicke, called yesterday to check on Margret. We figured with all the tests and IV support/treatment the bill would be close to a thousand but was surprised to find out that it was only a little over $400 all together. We will continue to go to Lincoln Heights Animal Hospital for all of Margret€s follow up shots and any care she may need down the road. We cannot thank the staff and Dr. Radicke enough for nursing our sick pup back to life! Read Less

Our youngest pup was spayed at a different vet, and she was having issues with the scar that was still had scabs 2 months after the initial surgery, as well as a an issue with blood work from pre-surgery. After a couple of visits back and being given the ole "waiting game method," we knew we needed to get a second opinion. We came here and got an answer right away on the blood work, which wasn't an issue, as well as some proactive methods to treat the inflamed scar. To also note, the front desk staff was extremely friendly to not only us, but our pets too. We will definitely call this vet for any other issues that may arise. We love Dr. DiRosa! Last year my 17 year old kitty started having seizures. Of course, it was a Saturday after the office had closed. Panicked, I called and left a message on their machine for Dr. DiRosa. Within 10 minutes, she called back to talk me through what to do. She called multiple times to check on him and gave me her personal number in case we needed to reach her again. We ended up having to put him to sleep the next day. After Dr. DiRosa found out, she called to comfort me. Several months later, I got a kitten and began taking him to her as well. We had been going to another (highly rated) vet in the area since we moved here. Then our elderly cat began throwing up blood. We brought her to the former vet right away. They looked her over, performed some very expensive tests (incorrectly) and told us she had lymphoma with no treatment options and just a few weeks to live. I know we didn't want to do anything invasive due to her age, but I'm glad I listened to the voice that told me to get a second opinion. We came to Lincoln Heights. It literally saved our cat's life. Dr. Kemble ran some diagnostics, confirmed the diagnosis, but had a non-invasive treatment option of steroids. It doesn't help all cats, but it has been a year and a half (far longer than -any- expectations) and our cat is happy and relatively healthy. The staff is all wonderful- front of house, back, vet techs, the vets themselves, everyone. They knew our cat's name long before they learned ours (a huge bonus in my book- we were always treated well, but you're at a vet- the animals should matter). We walk in to choruses of "Bob!!" at which point people pour out of various rooms to come spoil her rotten, but I can't say enough about the mix of professionalism and warmth from Lincoln Heights. We know that we're in good hands whenever we walk in (which is often). Read Less

If I could give 10 stars on this review, I would. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Michele Wright. We had been seeing another vet consistently for the past 8 years but had heard such great things about her from several friends that we decided to switch. I took my Great Dane girl in for what I thought would be mostly a checkup but the appointment quickly took a serious turn. Dr. Wright diagnosed a disease that is life-threatening. She was kind and compassionate while being extremely thorough in her examination and explanation of my dog's diagnosis. She never seemed rushed even though I had watched several emergency patients walk through the door that morning. When you have large breed dogs, the cost of medications can add up quite quickly but Dr. Wright was sure to offer ideas on how to be cost-effective in our medication and pharmacy choices. Dr. Wright is also very personable. She is easy to converse with and takes a genuine interest not only in your pets but in you as a person as well. I could go on and on gushing about Dr. Wright but I will leave it at this: I will never go to anyone else in San Antonio. My pets will be seeing Dr. Wright for life. Read Less

I'm new to San Antonio and went to LHAH because of the reviews on yelp so I've decided to be better about reviews because it's the way I'm currently navigating the city. My point is, I'm thankful for the previous reviews because it was a (mostly) great experience. I have 2 dogs who need annual shots and a check up. I waited half an hour to be moved to a room and another 20 mins to be seen by the vet after the tech examined them. I'm still giving 5 stars because the first thing the Dr. did was apologize for the delay and acknowledged the wait time. I truly appreciated great service and an acknowledgement when things don't go as smoothly as one would like. I asked her if that sort of delay was normal and she said, no. I believe her. The vet, Dr. DiRosa, was fantastic. I try to support women in all things and was thrilled to have a woman vet. She was thorough, kind, and answered all my questions with ease. She also has really great hair - that's obviously not a requirement for a vet but it's a bonus. The vet tech was also great. She let my dog jump all over her and lick her. She was patient  with both the dogs and printed more information for me on a vaccine - just so I would be more informed. I love that. The clinic is clean and the front staff were nice. All around, it was a really great experience. Read Less

Read Less
