I'm honestly in shock that there are any negative reviews about this vet. I have an Old English Bulldog and I love him as if he is my son. I have been to all kinds of vets and it wasn't until Affordable Petcare Grissom gave him an improper medication combination, that I found Marbach Road Animal Hospital. My dog has seen all 3 vets here and this is the ONLY vet I will ever take him too. I am so very lucky to have found a staff that is so caring and understanding of my dogs needs. If you're looking for a place that's cheap, don't go here. Cheap pet care isn't good and good pet care isn't cheap. 10/10 would recommend. Read Less

Dr. Young is an an older vet who's "seen it all" and is in the sweet spot of his career which puts him in a position to provide an elite level of care. I'm writing this after going to his office for 2+ years. Every time I go to the newer vet in the nicer neighborhood near my house I always leave saying, "I should have just made the extra effort to go to Dr. Young." I highly recommend this vet especially if you have a Bulldog breed.I was unsure about this place because it's not in a great neighborhood but I was blown away by the high level of service and expertise of Dr. Young and his staff. I own an English Bulldog who needs regular vet appointments and I move around a lot so I've seen many vets over the years. Dr. Young is the absolute best vet I've ever been to. He consistently provides advice and treatment that really works. He takes extra time and effort to make sure my dog is taken care of effectively the first time. I never feel like I'm being rushed in and out so he can see as many patients as possible or that he's trying to make as much money as he can out of my visit. I always feel like he genuinely cares about dogs and English Bulldogs specifically. Read Less

When we arrived to see Dr Young for my dogsons skin rash, we also mentioned that we needed to update his rabies shot, but only his rabies shot. Dr. Young asked if he had his "combination shot" and I said no. We proceeded to say just the rabies shot today. (we try not to give our dogs any unnecessary vaccines as they live indoors and never really encounter other dogs. We do not even go to dog parks). During our visit we felt like Dr. Young was working incredibly too fast, not listening to us, or letting us talk. It seemed he was squeezing as many appointments in for the day as he could. He proceeds to take Duke to the back to give him a heart worm test, poop test, and his shot. (All of his tests came back great)He comes back with Duke, and also with about 6 different medicines in his hands. Our bill was $460. (We just came in for a skin rash) So being that Peter and I question everything we start going over the itemized list of medicines with Dr Young. It was still hard for us to speak as he continued to speak over us explaining the medicines, but i did manage to cross out two medicines that were unnecessary such as a $60 anti itch pill (Earlier in the appointment he asked if Duke had any itch and before i could answer, while i was answering "no he is not itching" he began to speak over me).As we are checking out we asked the office manager, Sylvia, why this combination shot was on our bill? She said well if he gave it to him that is why its on there. She went to the back to get Dr Young. He proceeded to tell us he gave Duke the shot because he needs it to protect him. We said but we did not want it. He said I am certain you said you did. By this point Duke had been given the shot and we are in a corner with no options other than to pay and leave.Feeling incredibly frustrated talking about how horrible Dr Young made us feel the entire drive home (We drive 45 minutes out of our way to see Dr Young because he is said to be the best). As soon as we arrive home Duke throws up more than he ever has in his life. He started slipping on his vomit and choking on it. I grab him and start helping him. He catches his breath but is now just breathing very heavily. He continues to keep gagging and hacking up. So i call Dr Youngs office. Dr Young tells me he might have motion sickness from the car ride (Duke has never got motion sickness he loves car rides i have taken him everywhere in his 9 years). He then tells me maybe he has low blood sugar give him honey. I gave Duke honey (He was uninterested). We waited 15 minutes and finally i called Dr Young back and he said okay bring him in. When we arrived it appeared the office was already closed and they were just waiting for us. Dr Young took Duke to the back immediately leaving me worried in the exam room. I can hear them saying put oxygen on him. Finally Dr young brings duke back into the exam room still heavily breathing. He says that he did a chest X-ray, and he got a little bit of fluid in his lungs when he threw up, and the antibiotics should take care of it. He sent me with the X-rays saying "In case i needed to goto the ER show them these". He did not say goto the ER, he said in case. (View Video of Duke seconds before Dr Young Told us he was okay to go home)Still not telling me why Duke was throwing up, he said i gave him some anti nauseous medicine he should be fine. The doctor tried to give Duke some water before we left, and duke did not want anything to do with it.We got back home and Duke seemed to calm down, just still breathing heavily. Nothing changed from when i left Dr Youngs office so i felt like this was something that would pass and if the doctor did not say take him to the ER with that breathing pattern then it would be okay.I went to sleep in the guest room next to Duke in his kennel. I slept next to him so that i could monitor him. I woke up on Thursday morning to the site of Duke passed away in his kennel.I am incredibly heartbroken over this, as is our entire family. Duke was an older bulldog but he was doing great. He still had time. I feel that Dr. Jim Young did not want to admit Duke was having an allergic reaction because we argued that we did not want that vaccine. I feel that he put his pride before my dogs life. I feel that we should have all been able to say it was a miscommunication, and this bulldog is having an allergic reaction requiring emergency care he needs to go to the ER. I feel that he did not want to say that because that would be admitting that he made a decision he thought was best for our bulldog, and instead it was life threatening.Dr. Jim Youngs character is what I would like to put in question. I would like to spread awareness to other pet owners. I would like pet owners to know that you are the voice of your fur babies, and if the doctor will not let you speak you need to walk right out of there and find another veterinarian. I am not saying do or do not vaccinate. That is your decision to make.We lost Duke. Read Less

Amazing vets! I recently took my sweet baby girl to these vets and I was genuinely amazed at the wonderful, caring and compassionate care my dog received. I took my dog because she had gotten into the trash a couple of days before and she started vomiting shortly after. After reading terrible stories on the internet about dogs getting into the trash and getting bowel obstructions I was so afraid that this is what was happening to my dog. When I called Marbach road animal hospital I told the receptionist the situation. She informed me of the busy schedule they were having that day but that she would make sure she told the vet. Within 20 minutes the vet called me back and told me to bring in my dog. When we (me and my friends that were helping to support me emotionally bc we thought the worst was going to happen) arrived we were taken to a room within 10 minutes and seen by the vet shortly after. When the vet examined my dog he was so sweet to her, talking to her telling her the first order of business was to pet her. Then he continued to thoroughly exam my dog, explaining to me the entire time what he was doing. Before any studies were conducted the vet clearly explained to me what he thought should be done and clearly asked me for permission to proceed. I was very grateful for this because I know vet bills can be painful. During our visit, because I was thinking the worst was going to happen the vet approached our situation more positively. He laid out all the options and reminded me that we will take one step at a time. He was very compassionate every step of the way and I definitely will return. I would 100% recommend this vet to others. Read Less

I have VERY mixed feelings about this vet. I was originally going to Ellison Dr. Animal Hospital because it was closer to my home. My cat had an emergency on a Friday and they were unable to take me. Marbach Rd. took me, even though it was clear that they didn't have an opening. I was so thankful because I knew I would have a disaster if I had to wait until Monday to see a vet.Since my cat's issues are recurring, the vet did alot of research on trying to find out what different things could be causing the problems. After the symptoms came back, he tried more medications to see what would help. At this point, I was planning on making them my primary vet. While my cat was still having symptoms, I had to go out of town and I decided to board her for the weekend so they could continue to give her the medication. When I went back to pick her up, I found out that she had been experimented on without my consent and mistreated. It doesn't help the situation that my cat isn't friendly, but they were well aware of this, before hand. I feel it's my responsibility to notify anyone handling her that she will become violent, and I did on multiple occasions. With that said, they gave her a shot of the same medication because they couldn't handle her. Exactly how do you give a shot to an animal without handling it, a dart gun? They never disclosed their method of administration. I was charged extra for the shot and given no discount for the prescription I previously paid for, which I didn't receive the remainder of the pills when I left. They also informed me that they were spraying something into the kennel to get my cat to calm down, and charged me for that too. They could have just left her alone, for free. All of this sounds like it would make ANY animal MORE angry! It took my cat about a week to recover from this experience. I was in tears by the time I got to my car from the guilt of her suffering from my misjudgment. I will never be back and I hope you take my review into full consideration before going there. This is not an exaggeration. Read Less

So I came to this vet when I got my bulldog as EVERYONE states that Dr Young is THE doc to go for bulldogs. Anyway...yes his bedside manner IS a bit lacking...lol AND i had the same experience where he is talking to you and he is petting the dog...but the dog squishes its eyes because its more like whack whack whack...ha ha.. He reminds me of that aunt that loves you so much she just HAS to squeez your cheeks when your young. He is very knowledgable and does wish to do what is best for your dog AND you. I took my 5 month old puppy here on a Friday because she was showing signs of parvo. My regular vet could not get her in, and after searching through several reviews, I decided not to go to the place he'd recommended (Angel of Mercy), and to try here instead. I am so glad I did. I did not have any contact with any of the vet techs, (other than them peeking in the room to get a glimpse of my puppy,) so I cannot comment on this Kat person, but the front desk girl (Crystal?) was very friendly. We saw Dr. Young, and after briefly looking at my dog, the first thing he said was it was going to cost me about $800 to hospitalize her. I knew she had parvo, and had seen reviews from other vets stating $1600 to $1800 and up, so I was pleased to see he was so much lower than them, but his delivery of the amount wasn't the best, (but then he's a vet, not a salesman.) Still $800 was more than I had, and unlike the majority of Americans, I don't use credit cards. I discussed this with him, and although it was against his recommendation, he offered me the option to take care of her myself. He gave her some injections, and provided me with medications to give her at home for around $200. I went home with a bag of meds and cared for my puppy over the weekend, which surprisingly, she made it through (I have heard really bad prognosis for parvo puppies). I think I did an excellent job caring for her (better than any vet tech would have,) but by Tuesday I felt that she was getting too dehydrated and really needed IV treatment. I took her back to Dr. Young, trying to get as much money together as I could just in case hospitalization was necessary. On our second visit, everyone in the office was very friendly and happy to see my dog was hanging in there. Dr. Young knew I was trying to avoid hospitalization, (although that is always the recommendation with parvo,) so this time he gave my dog the subcutaneous injections to hydrate her, showed me how to do them, and sent me home with everything I needed to do them at home. His bedside manner is a little lacking, (he's a little rough, and he was patting my very weak little dog as he was talking, and her legs were sliding out from under her and giving out), but of course, I don't think anyone would be as gentle as we are with our own pets. Even so, he was very patient and informative. I do not feel that it is just about the money with them, as I have with other vets. Other places have the mentality that either you have the money to pay them, you let your dog die, or pay to put them to sleep. Not all pet owners have an endless amount of money to shell out when things go wrong, and I understand that not all things could be treated at home, but I sincerely appreciate them giving my dog a chance at life. With the mixed reviews I will say if you take your pets there the doctors will not try to ""sell"" you into anything. They don't beat around the bush either, they care about the animals very much. The reviews are correct though about Kat. She is one of the reasons I quit working there. I've been out of high school for almost 20 years, no need to revert back to that childish behavior. I built strong relationships with many clients and we still keep in touch and from what I hear it hasn't changed much. would NOT recommend this place. I paid $97.00 for an x-ray, however I have no right to a copy? Kat tried to tell me there was no way to duplicate an x-ray. Hello, it's 2009,, where have you been? Yes there is a state law that the vet must keep the records for 5 years,, but the rest of the law states.. ""(c) Upon the request of the client or his/her authorized representative, the veterinarian shall furnish a copy of the patient records, including a copy of any radiographs requested, within 15 business days of the request, unless a longer period is reasonably required to duplicate the records. The veterinarian may charge a reasonable fee for this service, including actual costs for mailing, shipping or delivery. A veterinarian may not refuse a request for copies because payment in full for veterinary care has not been received from the client.

Read Less

Anyway...yes his bedside manner IS a bit lacking...lol AND i had the same experience where he is talking to you and he is petting the dog...but the dog squishes its eyes because its more like whack whack whack...ha ha..
