I took my Baby girl to Smith&Shedd because her current vet is located rather far from here. She was having difficulty with her breathing and I determined that it would be best to take her to the closest vet that was open and available to see her. They immediately assisted me and she was examined by Dr. Garcia. Dr. Garcia, was very thorough, caring and concerned about her breathing. She requested all the x-rays that were taken at her vet earlier that morning and did her own examine and compared them. She then informed me of what was going on and proceeded to do everything heavenly possible to help my Baby girl. Although, I lost her I know that she receive the best care that could be given. My sincere thanks to Dr. Garcia and the staff for their support, care, and understanding of how difficult it was for me to lose her. They were so professional, caring, and supportive to my Baby girl and me. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for giving my Baby girl the time and such special care during her time of need. My Little Oscar has been with the Smith and Shedd Family ever since he was 9 weeks old and he is now a little over 6 years old. I wouldn't take my Oscar anywhere else he is my heart and soul. Everyone at Smith and Shedd treats your pets as if they were their own. Always notes and reminders of when check ups and shots are due and will see you in an emergency. Nice, clean, comfortable and inviting facility. The staff showed genuine concern for my puppy who had kennel cough, diarrhea and a horrible rash on his tummy. Dr. Smith saw him and clearly explained what was going on and how we’d treat it all. I left feeling like my pup was treated well and had everything I needed to help him get better. The staff at the front desk are always very friendly and accommodating both over the phone and in person! They truly try to do everything they can to work with your schedule. The techs sincerely care about your pets and always try to make them feel comfortable during any situation. They are also a very good resource of knowledge. And the doctors are amazing! Dr. Smith always takes the time to talk to you about your pet's condition and is very personable and knowledgeable. No matter how busy they are, he never seems like he's trying to rush with the process. He always takes his time and answers any questions you may have. Even though we now live a little further from the clinic, we refuse to go anywhere else. It is definitely worth the drive for the quality care we receive here. Highly recommend!! I can't say enough good things about Smith & Shedd. We've been going to them since we moved to San Antonio and they have always gone above and beyond. From the front office staff to the vet techs to both Dr. Smith and Dr. Shedd-Garza, every employee at Smith & Shedd has been exceptionally kind and helpful. Even after moving across town, I still bring my pets here because I know that we will be well taken care of. In 2014 I trapped a badly injured feral cat and Smith & Shedd was more than happy to take her in and work with me while she was patched up and socialized, which took months of bringing her in nearly every week! Even now when I bring my other pets in, the vet techs and vets ask how she's doing. I really feel like a valued member here instead of just another customer. I had a rough situation with a pet recently, and Smith & Shedd once again went above and beyond. I cannot express how much I appreciate this practice and the people there. Smith & Shedd is by far the best. Highly recommend. Their office staff, techs, and doctors are 100% amazing. My dog, Tag, recently passed. Rebeka definitely made the process of getting him cremated easier for me and I didn't have to worry about anything and could focus on my dog who passed. Not only that, she knows how to most definitely be compassionate. She went and got my passed dog from the car for me and carried him in. She went the extra mile and cut some of his hair for me, as requested. I could tell by the way she handled herself and carried him that it was as heart breaking for her as it was for me. She definitely took good care of him for me and I am so grateful for that. Tag appreciates it as well. Rebeka did an amazing job with Tag and it was a blessing that Tag was in the hands of such a compassionate and friendly person. Dr. Garza and James were also part of Tag's care team. They showed compassion as well when Tag had to go in for a visit. Dr. Garza was always extremely thorough with her examinations and took her time. She always commented that she loved his crazy hair. James always made it a point to call and update me on what was happening and was good at taking care of Tag as well. Smith & Shedd is a very family oriented pet hospital and it definitely showed during this difficult time. When I came and picked up Tag's ashes today, they handed me his paw print on a clay circle and had his name on it. Along with it was a card signed by the entire staff. I worked with Dr Smith before he had his own practice, as well as at his current practice. He is extremely kind and caring towards his clients and their pets. The best vet office I have been to. Both of my animals have been taken care of so well and my dog actually loves going to the vet. The pricing is super reasonable and the staff are very understanding of financial limitations. I have been boarding my dog since we got him six months ago and won't be taking him anywhere else. I am 1000% impressed with this clinic. We got a new puppy and only 3 days later, he was showing signs of kennel cough. From the moment we got there, we could tell the place was impeccably maintained and cleaned. Every person there was knowledgeable, could tell that we were worried first time doggie parents (or might as well have been for as long as it had been) and gave us tons of advice and eased our concerns. The tech and Dr Smith were excellent people to talk to and took care of our baby. I would HIGHLY recommend this clinic to take care of your furry babies. Read Less

I have taken a few weeks to calm down after a very upsetting experience; and I am going to try and state just the facts of a very upsetting experience. I have had a very good relationship with this vet clinic for over 2 years. I have trusted their recommendations, and always followed their guidance. Recently, I raised some concerns about a treatment plan...only to be met with anger. Not frustration...anger. I am perfectly within my rights to ask questions and gain more information on a proposed treatment plan for my dog. I was berated, and met with such....anger...that it actually scared my dog (who was sitting beside me). To say this shocked me is an understatement. There was never even an apology. There was just more talking trying to justify deplorable behavior. My trust in the professionalism of the practice is non-existent at this point, and we will not be returning. I can't say do not ever go to this practice, because we did have a good relationship at one point. I would say just...proceed cautiously, and don't be afraid to ask questions. You do have the right. I HAD been going to Smith and Shedd for about 2 years. A year ago, my dog got very sick. Some of the doctors and nurses/technicians here are great. (Thank you to the wonderful technicians that were always helpful). I've easily dropped over several thousands in the last few months (not including YEARS) with no follow up, no diagnosis, no changes in health. I would call and messages were never returned. One person would tell me one thing, another person would say something different. I would request medication refills and they would be sent to the wrong pharmacy or even the wrong prescription (which ultimately was one of the causes that led to my dog dying.) They are quick to take your money but as soon as your card is swiped, it's out of sight/out of mind. I did remain faithful to Smith and Shedd, though, till the end. Sadly, my dog passed away two weeks ago and I thank Smith and Shedd for what they did but I'm sure this same service could have been received from one of the discount veterinary services in San Antonio for a fraction of the costs. Also after all the thousands and thousands that I had spend here, I received not a single card/letter/note/word of condolences from Smith & Shedd after my dog passed. I normally would not be bothered but I took my dog for one hospital stay shortly before his passing at another vet because of an emergency and they were kind enough to send a card of condolence after only seeing me once. Don't go here unless you don't mind spending an exorbitant amount of money for mediocre services and "free coffee". Read Less

We live exactly 52 miles away and even though there are probably 50 Veterinary offices from here to there we will only go to Smith and Shedd. They are absolutely wonderful, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and Drs are #1. Our fur babies deserve the best and Smith & Shedd is definitely it! Read Less

APRIL 2014First experience at location and I am definitely returning with the belief that my furry kids will be taken care of by this location's sincere and informative staff.Front desk staff were welcoming. The front area was an inviting and clean space.I was especially impressed by the little black rectangle, evenly leveled on the floor, that measures our pet's weight.My two furry kids are both rescue animals. The eldest (female/spayed, beagle/boxer mix) had a rough past before joining our family, so she doesn't do well with strangers. That being said, both her and I came in with severe anxiety when waiting in the waiting room; her visits never go well -- previous Vet clinics from out of state. Her brother (male/neutered, labrador/pit bull mix) and my husband are also along for the visit.Here enters a staff member (male, vet tech). Vet Tech summed up our visit to confirm what we were there for. Vet Tech then took our male dog to the back to begin his exam and shots. He later came for my female dog to bring in the back for her exam and shots.What I really liked about the Vet Tech was that he was not frightened that both my furry kids were barking at him and going crazy. Vet Tech put me at ease when he showed confidence and understanding of why my dogs may be barking; even taking the time for my male dog to get his bursts of barking out.Vet Tech later came at the end of the visit and again, to inform of procedures related to medication administration for our female dog.Second came the Veterinarian (female). She introduced herself and began to inquire about some skin issues they found on my male dog. Once that was settled, we began talking about my female dog and her issues (main reason why we made our visit).What I liked about the Vet was that she actually conversed with me about my dogs. She lessened my anxiety even more when speaking to me about how she and her team will go about examining my female dog to ensure her issue will be taken care of.As my female dog was being cared for, in comes the third staff member (female, unsure of her employed status). She inquired of misc. affairs regarding my female dog. When I asked about further charges, she did not hesitate to retrieve the information. The Staff Member soon came back with the list of expenses for both my furry kids.As mentioned above,  I am definitely returning with the belief that my furry kids will be taken care of by this location's sincere and informative staff.If my next experience is different in any way, I will be sure to edit and add to my review.
