Texas Veterinary Hospitals

San Antonio, Texas
General Info
Texas Veterinary Hospitals delivers services across the greater Texas region from San Antonio by allowing pets to set their own care pace. The orientation of ears combined with foot positioning and body inclination directs all steps from initial approach to final diagnosis. The session starts with spatial reading which includes observing how pets anchor their weight along with the frequency of their eye movements and the stability or hesitation in their tail movements. Staff position themselves based on those readings by standing diagonally when direct approaches cause tension and using pauses instead of vocal cues for animals showing over-attunement. Initial tools remain stationary within visual range to help pets become accustomed to the environment before any interaction starts. Texas Veterinary Hospitals delivers a range of services including integrative diagnostics, surgical consultations, pain monitoring, sensory response treatments, and structured mobility rehabilitation. Each treatment adapts in real time. A pet's flattened posture or redirected gaze prompts a return to anchoring techniques through patterned movement or rhythmic steps to restore calm. Through aftercare plans owners learn complex techniques including visual and tactile pacing which involves extending hands in side arcs, adding movement contrast, and using visual anchors to guide routine reentry. The mechanisms in place prevent unnecessary post-visit behavior spikes while maintaining consistent home care routines. Texas Veterinary Hospitals delivers adaptive interaction to San Antonio families and Texas pet owners through silent signals and responsive pacing instead of mere medical care.

We have used Texas Veterinary Hospital for over 8 years. We have a special needs cat that we couldn't figure out what the issue was. Dr. Mixon and staff discovered the problem after exploratory surgery. This was after another Vet had told us it was just allergies. Turns out, our cat doesn't have much of colon. They contacted Texas A&M Vet School to find out what we should feed him to make life easier for him. They take time for everyone!!! Even cats!!!!1 Read Less

I got a cancer (bone) prognosis for my dog from her regular vet here in Laredo and told it was terminal. I came to Dr. Mixon and he debunked it within minutes. He did his own thorough exam, things my vet hadn't really done. He not only cleared her of the supposed cancer, but found other issues that our vet never saw. I cannot recommend this doctor enough. Kind and friendly and explained every little thing. Every question we had was solved. The staff were all equally as kind and courteous. Dr. Mixon has become our new vet, and we're from Laredo. This was one of the very first vets I’m thoroughly impressed with in San Antonio! I have a beautiful white pitbull who’s 3 years old, and not only was she not discriminated against she was welcomed with smiles at this clinic!! That was the first great thing I noticed. The next thing was that they were careful and concerned in doing the right exams for my babies stomach bug.. I even saw a sign for a complete blood wellness panel, and being a phlebotomist, I had to oblige. I was so happy I ended up also doing her annual vaccines and heart worm test along with her wellness exam, and I was thrilled with it all! Pretty cost effective to in relation to other vets whose service is sub-par. Also I’d like to mention they called to follow up on Snow, not once, not twice, but three times after her visit, which made me so happy !! Definitely the place you want to take your fur babies to! I was sent to this location after an abrupt closing of the Thousand Oaks location.  Casey assured me my special needs animals would be cared for- I was given a 12 hour notice of closure before having to leave town.  I am grateful for the call, but it sure put pressue on the family to make this abrupt change  The owner did send an email to the customers about the closure of Thousand Oaks, after the fact.  I will continue to use the services, and it is important to verify boarding dates TVH  in case locations abruptly close.  I'm not sure if this location offers grooming, but the Thous Oaks location groomer was awesome. Back to the real issue, this team at this location gets 5 stars for taking care of my babies.   My animals were vetted properly, healthy super clean, spoiled and well taken care of by these folks. They are super boarding folks, for sure,   The owner/vet gets 1 star for not giving his patients advance notice to make plans for the abrupt closure. Read Less

Yet every time i would go,the x-ray machine would be broken. Ok i understand... things break. No biggie. They tell me that they wall call me when i works again... I wait a week and call at the end of the week to see if the X-ray is ready to go. She tells me the whole week it was working perfectly until today it broke... Why didnt anyone call me to let me know?! I call to talk to the office manager and they put me on hold... I am on hold for 30min. I call back and now they go straight to voicemail... I keep calling and im like what's going on?! I call from my work and they put me on hold and it hangs up... I tell my husband to call and they finally answer!! Very unprofessional! Read Less

The staff was excellent, and they did an amazing job with my dog after she got spayed and they were so nice, but my issue is the cost. They never tell you that if you come in to get the stiches fixed, since my dog did mess with them, that it will be an extra $100 for staples, on top of the $320 i payed for the surgery. It would have been nice to know the extra costs, since they always fail to mention the COST. When you ask about it, they tell you that you can come in to get it fixed, without saying the cost. You have to ask them the price of everything to avoid surprise prices! But they did give us a 75% discount, Dr. Stribley is amazing! Read Less

All three of my cherished kitty's came down with the deadly feline calicivirus. I took them in as they were having nasal drainage and a hard time breathing. I was told they might not have much of a chance. They needed continuous around the clock care with IV fluids, and antibiotics for at least 4 days. The staff helped me cope with the possibilities as well as the financial burden it would put on me. In the end, I have the Texas Veterinary hospital staff to thank for saving my kitty's lives. The last few times I've been to TVH  the vet seemed to have been in a really bad mood.  She also seemed a little condescending.  I have gone back several times because the first 2 times I went with my dog she was really nice and good.  Since I've taken cats her demeanor has changed.  I will be looking for a new vet that is friendlier that seems to enjoy cats more.  She also tried to give my kitten a shot while he was on her lap, which was unsuccessful, so he had to be stuck several additional times.  The tech. also took his temperature while he was on my lap.  I'm not sure why they have examining tables if they don't intend to use them.  I also feel like they try to get you to do additional/unnecessary testing. In the past 3 mos I've taken both my dogs to Dr Mixon who I discovered to be one of the most detailed, thorough and kindest vets in the SA area. We have an energetic 8 yr old mutt and a 16 yr old blue heeler.  Dr Mixon made several changes in my geriatric dog's diet and meds which seemed to help her, however she was quite elderly and died a cple of months later. Really wish I'd discovered him several yrs ago. We drive from Kendall Co. to have him see our pets. P.S. Dr Mixon's wife, also a vet, specializes in hospice care and in-home euthanasia which is so much easier on both the animal and owner. She drove to our home quickly (from an appt in Fredericksburg) to help us with our blue heeler when she had her severe stroke. Am so thankful for them both. Read Less

Read Less

If you go and see my review for the Thousand Oaks location this review will make more sense. My puppy needed an x-ray taken in this location.

My cats mean the world to me and if I lost them it would destroy me. I truly thank you with all my heart. Read Less

Read Less

It's always been clean when I've come in, and they are always very sweet to my animals. I'm moving to California, and they've offered me some great advice for traveling with my pets. None of the suggestions were things to make them more money. :)If I wasn't moving out of state, I would continue to bring my cat and dog here. I appreciate them taking great care of my fur babies! I should give Zero stars.  I dropped a pet dog at 8:00 am and about 1oclock called to see if they were done. They had not done anything. We showed up to get the dog and a male employee was talking to a female coworker and said he had to go to lunch. They said because they had walk ins they kept my dog in the cage for 5-6 hours for nothing. They skipped our appointment to handle walk ins. The customer service was bad. When they called to " apologize" they were rude onbthe phone. Beware this place if you care about your pet. Read Less
