I spent$52.00 for 2 chewable flea tablets for my 2 dogs. I was told it would last for one month and it would take approximately 30 minutes before it started working. I gave my dogs the medication at 11 this morning, and it's now 7:45 p.m. my dogs are still scratching. I fumegarted my apartment with flea balm and every other prevention against fleas as possible. I feel I wasn't not given the right information ahead of time before spending $52.00. For 2 pills. I plan on asking for a refund tomorrow morning when they open. Read Less

Dr Vara is extremely rude and out for himself. I was taking my dog to see Dr. Metclaf, who is very nice but I did not agree to give my cat the Feline Leukemia shot and they refused to write a recommended letter for boarding. Dr. Metclaf brought in Dr. Vara, which is the very first time I have ever seen or met him. He also refused to write the recommended letter and when I mentioned, if my cat gets sick from this shot, are you going to be held responsible. This man, who was so extremely nice and welcoming when he came into our room turned to ve a very mean and ugly man. His response was rude and his body language changed to a very angry man, in front of my daughter. He also refused to give our puppy 2 shots that were also needed. Vanguard never sent out a letter stating our puppy was due for shots. Looking back now, I always wondered how when I would call in for an appt., I was always able to get my puppy in that same day. Great place for affordable pet vaccinations and medications. I was very happy with the service I received. I made an appointment the day before, came in at the set time and waited less than 5 minutes. Staff was friendly and quick. Overall, very convenient, clean, and priced right. I would definitely bring my dog back here. I preferred this over the same company's mobile vaccination clinic because the last time I took my dog to the mobile clinic he panicked and slipped out of his collar in a busy parking lot. The staff helped me recapture him quickly, but getting his shots done in an enclosed clinic works better for us. Read Less

Always bring my dog here for vaccination. They charge the same low price in office as they do at their mobile clinic. If you have a small concern while getting vaccines, vet will answer your question without charging an "exam fee" if they don't need to do xrays and a full exam. It's good to see a vet office that cares more about your pet and less about your wallet. Overall, would definitely recommend. Read Less

Not sure why my negative review written yesterday has not been posted, but here goes: Vanguard charges EXORBITANT prices for their meds, and they won't let you go anywhere else to buy them! They REFUSE to write you a prescription. They should be ashamed! $40 for Amoxicillin? Really?? Walmart charges humans $4.00. It's the cheapest medication ON THE PLANET. And they won't write you a prescription, but that is permitted by Texas law....you pay their price or take a hike. I'm going to take a hike. Going to a new veterinarian, immediately. Read Less

First i will say you cannot beat the price for simple vaccinations. Only good thing i have to say about them. What i was disappointed in the Vanguard mobile vet vaccinations is that they need to be better organized. I had to take my very anxious black lab for his rabies vaccine. I got there right on time with 25 other ppl who had the same idea. They were first setting everything up when they were supposed to be taking their first dog. Took them 30 minutes to just set everything up. Had i known this i would have gotten there at 1:30 instead of 1:00, the time they gave to be open. It was very uncomfortable not just for my dog, but also others as it was hot out and my Lab wanted to play and lick the other ppl, it was soo difficult to keep him still and contained. Then finally they were ready. It took 5 seconds to give my dog his shot and then i had to wait in line to pay. There were 2 lines so i thought it would go fast. Oh no, 2 women in both the lines decided to consider getting heart worm and flea meds and had to look at ALL the plans for their options. 45 minutes in line because of these 2 women. What the Vanguard ppl SHOULD have done was place a poster in one line saying for anyone considering other medications stand in this line, all others who just want to pay for their vaccinations today stand in this line. Pretty simple huh?? Not for these ppl...Everyone was upset as i was not the only one who wanted to pay and get the hell out of there. So my poor dog once again had to try and wait patiently. All of this could have been avoided had they 1, started on time. 2, form 2 different payment lines for ppl possibly purchasing further med programs, and ppl just paying for the days vaccinations. Dr Downey has taken care of my pets from the day she started practicing. She took care of them when we lived in Alabama and now she's taking care of them here. She is one of the most compassionate people I know and man is she smart! We had a dog that was under weight when we first got him, and when we took him to see her, never once did she say or imply that we were starving him. We listened to her advice, because she did go to school, so she is the expert, and planned his diet accordingly. He's doing great now. Thank you Dr Downey for the wonderful person you are and also for being an exceptional veterinarian. The female DVM, Tessa Metcalf, is not the friendliest. We just got our puppy, and she claimed multiple times that we are starving her. We came to a vet for recommendations, not to feel like bad parents. We are trying to be good parents by looking to the experts. But it's awful customer service to shun a parent like that. Read Less

My yorkie-poo got his annual here. Easy to schedule, didn't wait long. The staff and vet that took care of my dog were very friendly and gentle with Dante. Got his heart worm test and ordered prevention. The bill was much less than I paid at his last annual (at a different clinic) for the same services. I recommend, especially if you are on a budget. I've been taking my son Cinco, a 8 yr. old Chihuahua and my mother's Chihuahua Nachos, who's 10! They are great at customer service and getting you in on time when you family member needs to be seen. I was highly satisfied with my experience at Vanguard this morning. One of my dogs (55 pounds) was being seen for her yearly vaccinations, but I had to bring my other dog along (65 pounds) since he has terrible separation anxiety. They were so patient with both of my hyper babies. The one who was getting her shots nervous pooped all over the exam room (so embarrassing), but the tech was so gracious and cleaned it up for me as I am pregnant and can't move around as easily anymore. She has never been a fan of the vet and always been a handful, but again, they were so gracious and patient with my dogs and I truly appreciate it. The prices are very reasonable, and I will definitely be going back when it's time for shots again! Read Less

This review is for the location on 1604 and Redland Road.  Superb!! Very quick, excellent customer service and the vet tech/vet were both very compassionate and professional.  This is our first puppy ever so they explained everything in detail. Our pup got all her 12 week vaccines (including rabies), heartworm medication and de-worming prevention-and had her nails trimmed. All for $58!!! I've only utilized their roving low cost vaccine clinic but these folks are awesome & efficient. You fill out your information on a clipboard, let them know what shots you need, the shots are administered, you pay (CASH OR CHECK ONLY), they give you a printout of the received treatment and you're on your way. Easy Peasy. The other dog owners at these clinics are pleasant and fun to swap crazy dog stories with, it makes the wait time go by nicely. The crowd is nice, the staff is nice and the low cost vaccine prices are very, very nice. :) Read Less

If all you need is routine shots, Vanguard is convenient enough. But if you need anything more than that, would not recommend. One of my dogs tested positive for heartworms at the mobile clinic which the tests then have to be sent off to a lab for final confirmation. I never received a phone call about the final results and had to call their office multiple times to find out the status. When I asked the receptionist to send me an email with the blood work information... I received a copy of my receipt for the purchase of the tests. Not sure what good that does me. I have a feeling they are not well equipped to handle anything more than routine vaccinations. Certainly would not feel comfortable having them treat my pet for something as serious as heartworms. Super friendly and nice and really knows what's going on with animals . I have been to a lot of other clinics and offices and she is by far the BEST EVER! I would recommend her to everyone ! This review is for the mobile vet clinics.I've only ever had great service! They have a lot of options for schedules and locations. No appointments, just show up. The wait can be a long or short, but the vaccinations are so affordable.For pets who are not super social or patient enough to wait in line (I have seen so many dogs get off leash and run around the parking lot!  It makes everyone nervous-- not necessarily for bad behavior but just out of worry that the dog was going to run away or run into traffic), you can leave your pet in the car and the tech will go to the car to administer the meds.Cash or check only! Had the best experience today. Took my Chloe in to have dental work done so I was worried all morning. The staff was really nice they called me twice while Chloe was there to let me know how she was doing. I was expecting Chloe to be tired or in pain when I picked her up but it was the total opposite. When we got home she was totally acting like herself even was able to eat some food. They did a wonderful job on her teeth and Dr. Navarro even came out and explained which teeth were pulled and what steps we needed to take when we got her home. He is one of the nicest Vets we have ever gone to, he was so nice he even ran back out to the car and gave us the teeth that they pulled, for the tooth fairy. Awww. A Big Thank You to all the Staff. After I walked in, they placed a clipboard in front of me, and I said aloud to my dog trainer,"I guess I'm supposed to fill this out now." There was a giant scale in their tiny waiting room. People were trying to figure out how to use it while I tried to make myself as small as possible next to this piece of medical equipment, which belongs in the back. We were stuck in the crowded waiting room with howling dogs for an extended period of time, but this is mostly because we were late for our appointment. We had tried asking the receptionist for directions once we were off the highway, but she gave them to us from another location, not listening to us, and giving us a ton of attitude in the process. I would've not gone at all due to this crap had my dog's rescuer not arranged for free vaccines, and goodness, they acted like they were the ones doing me a favor when they rang me up! I'm not sure if any of those women at the front desk made eye contact with myself, or our trainer, and they just placed my credit card any-ole-where after charging me. I had never taken care of a dog entirely on my own, and had several important questions to ask a veterinarian. I never saw an actual vet, just the tech, who was nice enough, in sharp contrast to her colleagues, but she still didn't bring a doc into the room despite my pleading. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I honestly don't know how they're still in business, and they charged me far too much money for what little they did that day. Read Less
