My dog, Axy, was having seizures in the middle of the night, and when I called Dr. Merritt, she came and met me up at her hospital with her husband. They administered some injections to stop the seizures, and since then, she has never had another seizure. She is her happy rambunctious self! I'm horrified. I brought my puppy in for her first shots to prevent her from getting parvo and i ended up having to go back. They checked for parvo only to find it positive and was told they didn't check BEFORE administering the vaccine. Why wouldn't they check? Word of advice, make sure u ask if testing had been done before u pay for vaccines that are going to make things worse. Read Less

Dr. Merritt (and hubby) a HUGE thank-you for the quick response, the after hours care and the on-going communication and follow-up! After those horrible seizures Wednesday we were really afraid that we were going to lose Chuey or that he would be impaired. Because of your advice, when he another episode Thursday, we knew exactly what to do and jumped into action, placing him on a cooling pad, wetting him down and putting a fan on him to cool him down enough so that we could get the phenobarbital down him. As a result, his recovery was much quicker. He has been seizure free since Thursday afternoon now that the meds have had a chance to kick in! I take my 3 schnauzers here, and the service is outstanding. The prices are reasonable, they give you estimates beforehand, and they don't try to push services on you that your dog does not need. I've brought Titus here twice to get checked when he was ill and to get him neutered. The ladies in the front assured me he was in good hands. They called after the procedure was done to let me know everything went well and he was ready to go home in a couple hours. They charged me a $200 deposit to tell me that my dog had parvo which I already knew. I wish they would told before I went that for meds for parvo would be 1500.00. Since I didn't have 1500 right there in there they said they had to my dog to sleep :( . I was so disappointed I went home with no money and no dog. I wish I would of given the opportunity to give my dog a proper barreal. So ppl if ur dog has parvo find a another vet because some fit charge less then $300 and not $1500. Dr. Merritt, her awesome husband and amazing staff saved our 10 week old Lab puppy. They are incredible!!! Words cannot describe how thankful we are to have had their care. Our puppy got sick the Monday before Thanksgiving, he wasn't doing better on Wednesday (completely lethargic) and Doc said "bring him in again". Second Parvo test came back positive :(. We where devastated. Dr. Merritt and her team immediately went into action. Mind you, they closed at noon that Wednesday and didn't re-open until Saturday. Our puppy had to stay with them and was given 24 hour care and treatment over the holiday. Doc kept us updated three times a day and we even got to visit him on Friday when they where closed. If you want people who genuinely care about an animal and about your close relationship and feelings toward them, this is the place to go. Dr. Merritt and her staff went above and beyond to help my cat Apollo. I previously had gone to the country vet, hearing so many "great" things about that place, but was left totally disappointed after my visit. My cat was diagnosed with a respiratory virus by Dr. Merritt after the country vet told me there was nothing to worry about. Apollo hadn't eaten for 5 days straight and was very lethargic. He had liquids coming out of his eyes and was breathing weirdly with some wheezing. I left country vet still having my cat very sick and not even reassured that he'd be ok. (I didn't even get to speak to the vetaranarian at country vet after I picked up my cat that day) All the country vet did was give him an injection that was supposed to fight a fever but today when I took him to Dr. Merritt, he had a fever of 103. Dr. Merritt and her staff gave everything to Apollo that the other vet didn't which included xrays in his lungs (something country vet told me they would do, but didn't after all because they felt it was "unnecessary) , blood work, IV nutrients etc. Dr. Merritt and her staff promised me they were going to do everything they could do best for Apollo. Today, Dr. Merritt called me and told me Apollo was responding well to treatment after all and that he started eating again. (Thank God. 5 days was so hard to watch him not take a bite of any food or water) She gave me oral medicines for my fur baby and made sure everything was going to be ok. Her staff is very very friendly and very aware of what they are doing. At the other vet, I had to hold my cat down while they took his temperature which in return led me to getting bit and scratched by him Yes he's my cat, but it is supposed to be their job and responsibility since they are supposed to be the professionals. Dr. Merritt made sure everything was done correctly by her assistants and that everything was in their hands. Yes it does cost money, but if you really love your pet you'll leave them in the hands of professionals and people who really have a genuine heart for animals. I made the mistake at looking for the best deal in money terms, but in the end my poor baby was still suffering because of people who didn't put my cats needs and his owner's feelings first. Dr. Merritt and her staff make all that their top priority. They will do everything they can to help your pet recover. The other vet lacked all this with a rude, uneducated staff. They are very patient, kind, sweet, welcoming, knowledgeable and considerate. This is how all vet staff should be towards a living, breathing creature. After all, that's what their job title is. I adopted my second dog from a shelter and after a few days it became clear that he was quite ill. I took him to my vet, Dr. Allison Tewell-Merritt, and she immediately diagnosed him with Distemper. Dr. Tewell-Merritt's early diagnosis was instrumental in ensuring my newly adopted dog survived what is more often than not a fatal disease due in part to the fact that it often goes undiagnosed until it is too late to treat. She utilized a new plasma treatment which resulted in a speedy recovery. Dr. Allison Tewell-Merritt is a knowledgable and caring vet and she is very good at communicating the facts regarding the condition and treatment of my pets that are in her care. She has previously cared for my other dog, also a shelter adoption, when she fell ill and she is in great health today. I have a lot of trust and respect for Dr. Tewell-Merritt and I fully recommend her as well as the great staff at San Benito Animal Hospital for all of your pet health needs.
