I took my fancy rat in to have a mammary tumor removed. Unfortunately they did not do a very good job. The stitches were loose and they did not secure her with a wrap, so I had to take her in a second time. She lost all her motor skills over the next couple months and passed away. It was a very expensive surgery that I wish I had not put her through. Read Less

Great clinic, I have a rat and it can be so difficult to find vets with good experience as to how to deal with these and other small/exotic pets. She had a mammary tumor, and it was safely removed and she made a complete recovery and is still running around happy and lively today! The vet even knew to recommend a hormonal implant over a full spaying as that would be as effective and less traumatic for an older rat to get. And it's worked as she has not developed anymore tumors as of yet! Very knowledgeable in general as to post op care as well. Definitely would recommend to any with small animal pets! Read Less

I've hemmed and hawed over writing a review about Southlake Animal Hospital for 2.5 years.  A friend recommended this place and Dr. D., who I think is no longer there, was GREAT!  I had a Westie with a severe liver problem.  She kept him in good health for a few more years.  Then, when he was 14, he took a turn for the worse.  He stopped eating, couldn't keep water down, and when his BMs were bloody, we knew it was time.  So we called and they did get us in that afternoon  It was a Doctor I've never seen before, which was okay.   AND THAT WAS IT!  Never received a card or any  sympathy from them ever.  I was dumbfounded.   We had been going there for years and we spent a lot of money.  Lately, all of my friends' dogs are getting older and they are passing.  They are telling about what thoughtful things their vets did when they lost their pet.  When I told my friends what Southlake Animal Hospital did for me they GASPED.  Then I found out I was told the wrong vet to go to in the first place.  My friend takes her dogs to Southlake "Crossing" on Davis/1709.  Go figure.  Maybe I was sent their because Dr. D. Gave me a special liver cleansing recipe that worked for my dog.  It was her personal copy from somewhere and it worked.  I have shared it with my previous vets and they are so thankful for it.  So, there is a silver lining to this story.  The liver cleansing diet is being shared in the animal world.  I would never recommend anyone going to this vet.  In fact, a friend of mine just got a new puppy and I told her to stay away from them! Disorganized front desk staff! I've called in TWICE to make an appointment for my dying guinea pig and TWICE was I denied. "Hmm, you're not in the system. Come back next week when we're less busy" or "...yeah, we don't have anyone available for exotics right now", front desk gals would say. Staff didn't even bother what was going on, or if there's anything they could do to help while I waited for the next available appointment. No apologies or even a smile when I walked in. Also, there's a $150 deposit before your appointment. I called around to several vets near my place in uptown Dallas late one night after seeing that something was horribly wrong with my hamster, and everyone was so cold and rude and said they wouldn't look at her because she wasn't a dog or cat. I finally got referred to the Southlake Animal Hospital, and the receptionist was so kind and accommodating over the phone. She said yes, bring her on in, we'll gladly take care of you. It was worth the drive. They diagnosed her as having a terminal cancerous tumor, and I ended up having to put her to sleep that night. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with, but I could not have chosen a better place to take my little Sophie. They treated me with the utmost respect even though she was just a tiny little hamster--they saw how special she was to me. Thank you to all the staff that was there that night for being there for me and consoling me in such a difficult situation. I was able to move forward easier knowing she was in good hands in her final moments.Read Less

The receptionist put my phone number into the system incorrectly and my chameleon ended up dying because they couldn't contact me to authorize his treatment. The tech, Travis, said that is was a very treatable disease after he died. They just left him to suffer and die. They had my email address on file but didn't even bother contacting me through there. I'm so heartbroken and disappointed... I was told that this was the best vet for exotic pets in DFW.  Also, when I picked up my chameleon's body they took me to the parking lot. It was outside when they told me they entered my phone number into the system wrong after I complained about the lack of communication on their end. I suppose they did this so none of the customers in the waiting would hear. I had called the office everyday to check on his status. I had originally left a review on their Facebook page but immediately after they blocked all reviews on Facebook, luckily I took a screenshot of the review. I then posted my screenshot of the review on my Facebook and tagged the animal hospital in it. It was after doing this when they finally reached out to me. If possible I will be attaching the photos. I've been taking my pets here for years. First I just needed a vet for my quaker parrot and Dr. Moore was the only avian vet in the area. After the first visit, I immediately brought my dogs and cats here as well. I live in the Keller area and there are at least 4 or 5 other vets that are much closer to me, but I wouldn't bring my babies anywhere else. The care and compassion that my pets and I have been shown by all the doctors, techs, and receptionists has always far exceeded my expectations. During a regular check up Dr. Moore helped teach me how to train my bird and went out of his way to help me (a young first time bird owner) provide the best care for my Zazu. I've been able to be accommodated on multiple occasions during an emergency last minute without an appointment. They really take their time to talk to you and explain everything, you can tell they actually care about the animals in their care and their clients. When my pup passed away this week they were so helpful and compassionate. Dr. D, Dr. C, and Dr. Moore are all very kind and knowledgeable and even my less than friendly pets have loved them and allowed them to handle them. Plus, their prices are far more reasonable than the other vets we have seen. Whole heartedly reccomend them. Read Less

I told her that this pet had compromised health issues due to having a lung disease that I had treated him for --even getting TAMU veterinary school involved ( a total of seven vets reviewed his case). She gave him two worming medications and trotted out of the room. My pet became disoriented and frothing at the mouth. Dr. C returned and told me to take him home under air conditioning and everything would be alright. Approximately 25 minutes latter at home, my beloved cat was dead. Dr. C told me that she would follow up and determine what might have happened. She never offered any sympathy with my situation nor did she EVER follow-up on his previous issues as she stated. Needless to say, I will never go back ther and suggest to all that if they really care about their pet and getting good health care, avoid this place. I've been going to Southlake Animal Hospital for fifteen years and have taken 4 dogs there as patients and referred multiple friends to them.  The first few years, I went to Dr C and she was awesome but I haven't seen her in years.  And since I have a baseline and know how good it used to be, I could tell when it started declining in service so I quietly changed clinics.  Unfortunately, the new Vet passed away so I went back hoping it had improved.  Sadly, my experiences have been worse than when I originally left.  Appointment times are not respected.  The wait time is ridiculous so I have to pay extra to drop them off before I go to work and pick them up at the end of the day.  The clinic feels dated.  It looks like something out of the 80's.  The staff seems miserable, they take way too long to check you out and are very robotic and unfriendly.  I'm disappointed with how poor my last five years and especially my last two experiences have been.  This month, I took my two dogs in (they both have been patients for their entire lives so their entire history is on file) and I clearly said I suspected one has some sort of yeast infection (the smell was strong) and I told the doctor that the other dog was mutilating his feet and I suspected he was in pain.  Neither dog was diagnosed with anything specific, so only the symptoms were treated.  I went back twice to get the same problems addressed.  In two visits, I have spent over $1000 and nothing was effectively diagnosed or properly treated. The last time I went, I never even saw, spoke, or heard from a Vet.  I finally took them to another doctor and (as I suspected and verbalized), one dog was diagnosed with a yeast condition on her skin (which has been cured in a short period of time with proper medication by the new vet).  But what has me really angry is that the new Vet quickly told me that the dog that had been mutilating himself, had a broken tooth and just had his roots exposed.  He has been in horrible pain for months.  My new Vet pulled the tooth and my dog was back to his old self immediately.  How would you feel if you realized that your dog was in pain for months unnecessarily due to an oversight by your Vet?  Did he even look in my dog's mouth?  If so, why did the new Vet immediately catch it and Dr Moore did not?  I'm not sure what is going on but as an owner, I have expressed my concerns to the Vet directly and he told me to feel free to find a new Vet!  Wow!  If you are going here and suspect something doesn't feel right, take the advice Dr Moore gave me and go to another vet.  I'm so happy that I did.  I will never go back to Southlake Animal Hospital and I will never recommend them to anybody ever again. So.... I don't like the fact that I had to sit out in the waiting room while my puppy had an exam. For one.  I didn't get to talk to the doctor himself or herself.  I've never even met any of the doctors there. I work in the health field and know parents or owners should be back there. You can miss information or something can happen and they do not tell you.  2nd- I don't trust the fact that I can't be back there. What do you have to hide?  The doctor might not even had examined my dog and I might be given wrong or diluted info through the tech. 3rd-  PRIVACY! The tech talked to me in the waiting room. And I do not feel comfortable discussing my puppy's illness in front of other patients sitting 3 ft next to me listening to everything I say. Most importantly.  I want to talk to the veterinarian. Not the tech.  No offense.  But I've been given many false information by a tech and when the vet comes in, they tell me the opposite. I'm going to listen to the vet who went to school for 8-10 yrs.  not the tech who maybe had a few classes one semester or none at all. (I'm not saying that the techs here are not smart. I'm just saying out of experience, I've noticed this at multiple vet offices. Techs giving wrong info that is not backed up by the doctor.) Plus this place is too expensive. I know of MANY vet offices which are great and not this overpriced. I wonder if it's because this place is in Southlake. After two visits, I'm finding another place. Read Less

I'm a humane volunteer so I always see to have some animal that needs good vet care. I've been using Dr. Moore and Dr. ""C"" for 15 years and have always felt confident that Dr. ""C"" is the finest vet I've ever had take care of my critters. The office gets quite busy and sometimes appointments run a little late or a lot late but I still rate this clinic 9+ because I've seen what they can do with sick animals. The staff at the clinic is wonderful, friendly, upbeat, supportive when you need support and always helpful. Over the years I've seen patients form friendships with the staff, I know I have one with them. They see me coming with a cat and they all run!!! These truly are excellent vets. Dr. Moore is more into exotics and is known all over the US for his work. Dr. Clonninger is amazing in her own rights. She always listens and goes the extra mile to help save a furkid. You know how good they are by how busy they stay. Be patient and you'll have the best vets in town keeping your pets in tip top health. I have a world of confidence in them. Kat Read Less

Read Less

Dr. C returned and told me to take him home under air conditioning and everything would be alright. Approximately 25 minutes latter at home, my beloved cat was dead. We could not be happier with their skill, their love and treatment of our pups, through the loss of two of these gentle giants, and their continuing maintenance of these members of the family. You will not be able to find anyone who could do a better job, and the personalities of both Dr. Moore and Dr. C makes the relationship that much more special.Read Less

Read Less

although the care at Southlake Animal Hospital is good, I am outraged that they charge $6.50 / animal to write a prescription for Heartguard!  No other vet EVER has charged a fee to write a prescription especially after we paid almost $200 for an annual physical for each dog.  I will be finding another vet immediately. Very knowledgeable vets who really care about your animals. They see all sorts of exotic pets here and have taken great care of my rabbits.

This is about as close to the perfect vet office as you can get, in my opinion. I take my pet rats here for all of their needs (check ups, spay/neuters, URI flares, surgery). The vets here are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to exotics/small animals. Dr. C and Dr. Moore are very caring and always take the time to do a thorough exam and answer all of my silly questions. The office staff are also very friendly. I have never had a bad experience here. They have been able to squeeze me in when I had an emergency and spared me the $100 fee just to walk in the door of the emergency hospital. The only ONLY reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the prices are a bit high. But I will pay them because of the awesomeness of this place. I fully trust that my animals are in the best hands with them. Read Less

Not the cheapest vet in town but this is a place where if you need to see a Dr they can usually get you in. They can and will take all steps to ensure your pet will live as long as possible. If money is no object I believe your animal will be around much longer then the normal lifespan if you take them here. They have some of the most up to date technology available to take care of your pet. You will even get a smile as they take your credit card for the services you receive here. Read Less

I took my Timneh African Grey to Dr Moore for a general health check & trims. I was quite impressed with the way he communicated with my bird. I felt very comfortable knowing that she was in good hands. Dr Moore took plenty of time to explain everything & answer all of my questions. I am thrilled with his service & also with his Tech & office staff. I will gladly keep their number for future reference. I highly recommend their service.
