Dr. Madigan is the friendliest and most personable doctor/vet I have ever dealt with.  He is never in a rush and will listen to your concerns and asks pertinent questions and is very patient with our questions.  As much as I hate putting my dog through this traumatic event (for him) I come out feeling very good and that I get my money's worth and then some.  He is very caring toward our elderly dog and makes us feel at ease.  If you're looking for a bargain this may not be it, but if you are looking for a vet that cares, I can't give any higher recommendation. We have taken many pets to Dr Madigan. He is very experienced and great to work with. Now Dr "Z" is there, also. She is outstanding. Whether administering shots or dealing with end'of-life situations, you can always count on them. All of the vet techs make their clients feel like family. My parents have been taking their dogs to Dr. Madigan for 11 years now and through those years, he has remained to be the nicest, kindest, and most compassionate vet we have come across. His staff is also always very friendly. My babies have had two emergencies in the last two weeks and I made the drive from Austin (supposedly the dog loving city) to Spring Branch/Bulverde because they were the only ones willing to help and take them in. Last week my 6 month old Chihuahua broke a paw (around 1 pm) and vets in the Austin area wouldn't see her until the next day. One vet told me I would have to surrender her while another told me she would need to be amputated. Luckily, Dr. Madigan made time to see me later that day. Needless to say, he completely took care of my baby and she's currently home with a cast and as happy as a dog with a cast can be.Yesterday I woke up to my other dog being very sick, this time I didn't waste any time and called Dr. Madigan immediately. He wasn't able to see him, but Dr. Zamarripa was. I trust Dr. Madigan with my pets like crazy, so I was nervous to have someone else see my little guy. Well, Dr. Zamarripa is just as great and definitely fits in perfectly there. She was kind, answered all of my questions and concerns, and didn't waste time setting my dog up for surgery. She eased my anxiety the way Dr. Madigan does. My dog will be out of surgery later today but I will say the only think keeping me sane is knowing he is in great hands! I will no longer be taking my dogs to vets here in Austin. Despite living here for 10 years and my oldest dog being 9, I will not trust any other vets to take care of my babies. I will continue to do so as long as that are open and as long as I have a dog in my family.  Definitely take your pets here! Read Less

We love our Dr.Z! She is so nice and had no problem giving her honest opinion on things. She's very nice and love my baby boy. If it wasn't for her idk what I would do,he swallowed a ball of all things a couple months ago and she saved him! Highly recommend her and the staff are nice as well! Read Less

Our family of dogs has been fortunate enough to receive loving and highly capable care from Dr. Madigan and his great staff for the last ten years. Our first two rescue dogs lived full and happy lives of 15 and 16 years respectively and crossed the bridge in loving peace and without pain, thanks to Dr. M. Our current three rescues are thriving. We couldn't ask for better services and recommend AHSV without hesitation or reservation.Read Less

I'm just going to say, Dr.Madigan  didn't care to exam my recently adopted dog, he ignored a mass tumor on my dog back leg and when point out justify saying it was only a muscle mass. I end up taking my dog to another vet for a removal surgery.  Total Lack of professionalism. Read Less

Be cautious of who’s your vet.I would have given 2 and a half stars if I could. I took my 7 year old shiba inu mix to Dr. Madigan's office because of a limp in his leg. One ACL surgery later, my dog was refusing to eat and had diarrhea. Dr. Madigan suspected he had an abscess in his mouth and prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds. My dog was not getting better and would yell every time he tried to lift his head. Again, back at the hospital, Dr. Madigan was on vacation and I had to see a resident vet. This man was such a quack because he told me that my dog had arthritis, hypothyroidism, and possible liver/kidney infection. So, more meds plus thyroid medication and a special diet of Purina Kidney Formula food. My dog's face swelled like a balloon on these new meds and I decided to get a second opinion. This new vet suspected an infection and prescribed a different antibiotic along with some muscle relaxants. After a few days, my dog was miraculously getting better and can now lift/twist his head. So, this review is to caution anyone who brings their pets here. Only see Dr. Madigan, himself, and RUN far away from any resident veterinarian. Read Less

I love this place.  They really take their time and are so nice to our pets.  Dr. Madigan takes the time to get to the bottom of a problem and never makes you feel like you "have" to do something.  He gives you great options when he can, then you can make the decision that works best for you.  Couldn't be happier with the care we have received at Animal Hospital of Smithson Valley for the past few years! Dr. Roy Madigan and his staff are second to none! There are not enough kind words that I could say about them. We drive 45 minutes each way for vet visits because we don't trust anyone else (and we've tried). Check them out. You won't be disappointed! Read Less

I travel 30 minutes to and from my home to go to Dr. Madigan's office. I have been to many vets over the years and have been very disappointed. I will only take my four cockers to him. He and his staff take incredible care of them, I have a 16 year old that is still with me because of this outstanding care.
