The care was very good and the staff was kind and compassionate. The costs were quite high and the average person would find it difficult to afford. Unfortunately. Our dog did not recover after trying all we could. The recommendation to use “Last Wishes” was good. The vet came to our home to put our little, old girl down. We were pleased she could be at home with family around her. I had to take my dog in after being bitten by another dog. They saw him right away. They took real good care of him. Explained everything they needed to do and gave me an estimate before proceeding. They called me daily with updates and answered any question I had. They even checked up on my dog after he came home. This is my 2nd time taking my dog there. I will take take him there again. We were there for quite a long time, but I believe that was only because there were more critical patients being helped, and I understand that. I just wish there was a way for the prices to be lower, but other than that, I am mainly just very appreciative they were there when my dog needed them. My dear pup went inside with terrible pain. The vet was able to see him and diagnose all within 45 minutes tops...I don't even think we were in there that long. He's back to normal and playing around. The price was definitely lower than most ER vets I've been to in the past and the staff in super friendly. I've taken my cat here twice. First time was a great experience. Second time (last night) was awful. I'm sure there is a level of unpredictability with facilities like this, but if people are waiting for 4 hours just for an estimate on testing to find out what's wrong with their pet, then they need to bring in more staff. There were a couple of extreme cases last night that came in, which understandably should have been treated before ours and rightfully, they were. My cat was vomiting blood, which may not be a dire emergency, but was definitely out of the norm for us. He was also very lethargic, not eating/drinking, and was not using the restroom at all. I felt like there should have been a little bit more priority on this than what we were given. A lady came in after us with a cat that apparently had urinary issues. She was the second non-emergency case in line, my cat's case was the first (ahead of hers). Because she complained repeatedly about having, "clients that she needed to meet", the staff put her ahead of us. This really irritated me as we had been waiting several hours already, patiently, without complaints and with a 6 year old with us. Your personal or business engagements should not effect where you stand in line in a case like this. To top it off, the 4 hour wait was just to be quoted $1,005 to find out what could possibly be causing my cat's blood vomiting. Who knows what treatment would have been. I understand this is an emergency vet, but the pricing seems just a little high especially for the trouble you have to go through for an exam. With all of that said, I would not come here unless you think your animal could possibly die within the hour. If you can wait and make your animal comfortable enough to be seen the next day by your vet, save your money. I wasted $250 and 5 hours (total) of my time and money last night. Read Less

I saw a neurologist at this clinic. She took my dog and did a neurological exam on him. Then she came in and gave me all my options. She was patient, like she had all the time in the world to spend with us. It was a very good experience. The clinic told me where to get the medicine the cheapest and called it in. I was grateful for the kind way they treated my dog! I would have preferred to watch the neurological, but her explanations of what she did were excellent. The staff at the front desk is very responsive. Everyone was very compassionate and treated us and our pet with kindness. The clinic is very clean and there is no odor. The bathroom was very clean and roomy. Our kitty had to stay for four days and we received a detailed update every day. They responded to our calls and questions quickly and knowledgeably. They took great care of my Rock. He was not feeling well and I thought he had a stroke. Turns out he had Vestibular disease... never heard of it... but they treated him quickly and calmed me down as well as educated me on everything to expect. The Doctor was polite and took her time explaining it to me as well. My dog is 12 and I lost his mate 3 months ago and I was not ready to lose him so I was quite upset. First time we visited Dr Moore he was able to save my Siamese's tongue from a severe burnt. He had a lot of patience and he will communicate with me if any issues or changes would happen. I am extremely thankful for Janet. We aren't even patients of Sugar Land Veterinary Specialist but my husband called in to ask a few questions and Janet was the one that we were transferred to and she was amazing. She was so helpful and didn't shut us down because we couldn't come in due to financial limits. She spent over 30 minutes on the phone with us and she gave us answers and did as much as she could without seeing our dog Kloe. She is sweet, caring, and very very compassionate. They were quick and responsive, but incredibly expensive. Their charge for a basic visit is $130 (my human doctor charges $65). After three hours with a loved and dead dog, the bill was $550. If you look at the building, you will see what you are paying for. They did not invite us back to be with our dog while he was being examined. They did an examination and a blood test, followed by euthanasia, and it was $550. They didn't even have a complete box to put him in for the ride to be buried at home. This is a money mill. I cannot express how grateful I am for the compassion we were shown at SLVS as we said goodbye to our sweet dog Mia, who we had only learned less than 36 hours previously when we brought her in to SLVS emergency care that she had liver cancer and was in liver failure. We were stunned, as she was only 5, but when we brought her back in because she had declined so quickly the next day, Dr. Leah Taylor was thorough but kind in answering our questions as we made our decision about what to do. Everyone made sure we had the time that we needed each step of the way in letting our girl go. Very caring and thorough staff. In rescue we often have to take dogs to emergency vets, and you get to understand the degree of urgency depends on the severity of the dogs issue, so sometimes a wait while other cases go ahead of you is necessary. The vet we saw was very thorough and explained her findings in a clear, easy to understand way. My only complaint was that the lobby area was absolutely freezing! Read Less

From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable. The staff was SUPERB!! They told me exactly what they were going to do in terms I could understand, how long it would take for results and a pretty good estimate of the costs. From severely lacerated nose and pads on my Lab (who liked to run through the plate glass on the front door!), to very sick animals, they have always been wonderful. They won't just keep taking your money and leading you to believe things will be better if they really won't. After an 18 month struggle trying to find help for my dog's ongoing inner ear infection, I was referred to Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists. I could not ask for better diagnostic skills or more compassion. She was carefully evaluated by Dr. Davis, everything explained to me, and then an actual "Solution" presented. You cannot imagine my relief to finally have someone offer a solution! The Neurosurgeon, Dr. Bubenik, gave me a detailed explanation of the procedure and all possible complications, as well as prognosis following surgery. She is awesome! The entire staff....from front desk to surgery team have been so supportive. They even sent me a photo of my "baby", looking perky following her surgery. I have been to other well known specialist groups and no one even came close to the high standards set by Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists. My cat, Dixie, a 19 year old calico, and the best cat in the nation, was referred to SLVS by her home vet for gastrointestinal issues. During an ultrasound, Dr Medici found a mass, likely cancerous. She delivered the news with care and compassion. Although we cannot save Dixie, because of her age, the staff at SLVS have assured us quality of life and excellent care. Some have commented here about costs, but I don't find them outrageous; I expect to pay for quality trained vets with expertise and education. I'm grateful to this team and recommend their care. Late at night my doberman started moving his eyes all weird. Long story short we freaked out and came here. We were treated so kindly, service was honest and very quick. Prices are very reasonable and pretty much what I'd pay going to a regular vet. My baby was ok. Ended up being just a minor eye issue many dobermans have and he sees a specialist for now. My heart sank seeing what his eyes were doing, and I rather be safe than sorry. This is not the place you want to go (because that means your fur baby is ill) but when you need a vet in the middle of the night THIS is where you need to be. I hope to never need them again but if I do, I know they're rigt down the road. Thank you so much for opening tnis clinic. It's the only one like it that I could even find in Ft. Bend County. I recently started here after an alarming number of my friends, all in the veterinary community, urged me and promised I would be amazed. they couldn't be more right. I can't explain how SLVS has accumulated this group of amazing people. Their incredible skill is one thing but, what i have found sets them apart from every other surgical or emergency experience, is their devotion to their career and their compassion for these pets. it is overwhelming to see these techs and doctors treat these animals so well when no owner is around. they aren't doing it for show they are doing it from their love of animals. These other few reviews that have had such sad experiences ... my heart breaks for your loss and I can't imagine the stress of combining a loved family member being hurt and being confronted with an incredible treatment plan that adds up so quickly and so unexpectedly. please know that your beloved pet was extraordinarily cared for in their time with us. Yesterday 8-29-16 was our first time going there for our rescued dog Toto OR Toy , I did not have bad experience and hope never will , everything was fine and like it should be. staff were very friendly and knowledgeable , Doctor was excellent and thought us few new things about our pet we did not know before, she was very understanding and knowledgeable , most of all we liked Rayan he was very friendly and loved our pet Toto (Toy). If I could give 0 stars, I would! HORRIBLE bed - side manner! Threatening to throw our sick dog out if we didn't get them $1200 more dollars by 8 am and not a minute later because all the money was gone already. They actually did this every day our dog was there. Granted had just given them $1200 @ 6p the night before. Not to mention getting a call 3 hours later after dropping her off that we should think about putting our dog down, and 3 hours later wanting more money. Thank God we did not heed their warning because she is happy & healthy. If it wouldn't have been a Holiday weekend, we would not have used them. 1 star is very generous for the way they dealt with me. When we got there my lab (jojo) was very sick and unresponsive. They were very money hungry and didn't show any sympathy in my time of grief. They stated that they would have to chop off my dogs head right in front of me where as he could have asked me to leave the room and talk to my father in private but they didnt. We asked them can they tell us what they think might have happened but they said that they needed the payment to do anything or give us any suggestions as to what might be wrong with her. Sadly since I can't make any money decision my dad said that we would have to put jojo down. This is a horrible place as far as sympathy and compassion but if you want to pay a lot of money for them to examine your pet that they might know is dying anyway then go ahead. This is a first class operation and the doctors and staff are extremely knowledgeable as well as truly caring and compassionate. I spent over a year trying to help my sweet Dalmatian, Chelsea recover from sudden lameness and just when I thought we were making great headway she developed other complications and I sadly had to give her up. Her son, Darby and I have been devastated. The staff treated her like royalty... so caring and kind as if she were one of their own. After 13 years and 3 months of seeing that toothy smile it was very painful to see her go, but the people at the clinic made it as painless as possible and we are so appreciative. I visited SLVS emergency in October and I forgot to write a review about my visit. My visit was absolutely above what I expected. Dr. McGee has to be one of the nicest doctors I have ever met. Dr. McGee took her time with Misty and I, and when it came time to payment and questions, Cory was absolutely the sweetest. When I arrived, I was so worried about my baby, but Cory was able to calm me down and even offered me coffee and a cold cup of water. Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists were there on a Sunday to help my Chinese Crested fur baby get stabilized after vomiting several times. The staff was helpful and courteous at the front desk. When I was taken back, the vet tech who took care of my dog treated her so compassionately, and it made me feel much better about being there as it was my first visit. Once the doctor examined her, the cost of diagnostic tests and treatment was carefully explained. It was expensive, but then again, it is an emergency room that is open when regular vet offices are closed (Sunday). The staff there helped me determine what was absolutely necessary diagnostically (xrays and bloodwork), and then what I could wait on until I saw my regular vet the next day. If you need an emergency vet, you will get the best care for your animal. I am glad I have an ER vet right up the street in case I need them. Read Less
