If I take my dogs in to get treated for fleas and ticks and the doctor prescribes some meds I'd expect them to work. I don't expect to call back and ask only to have the person answering the phone to tell me that the tech said they got an from the yard. So my issue is treating the yard? I called ahead of time on a Sunday to see if they accepted walk-ins and thankfully they did. I did have to wait an hour to be seen, but they did had 7 pets ahead of me so I can’t be mad about that. I waited my turn. I was pleased with the service by the receptionist and vets. The vet assistant was especially helpful and kind. My pet got a shot, antibiotics, and an ointment. The total was a little over $100 including the consultation fee. A bit pricey in my opinion but it’s been a week since I went and I’ve seen major improvement in my pet’s condition and really that’s all I was hoping for. I will be returning for a follow up check up. Compared to other places I’ve been before this has now been my go to place for my pet’s needs (even though it is an hour long drive). Read Less

I absolutely loved the vet, Dr. Yalk who cared for my dog during our visit LESS than 2 months ago, but unfortunately that's the only positive experience I've had here and this is probably the only negative review I've written or posted in my entire life. My dog needs daily and monthly medications and I've called a day ahead for each refill and never once were they ready when I arrived to pick them up, and they made me wait all 4 times anywhere from 30-40min. And that's not what I'm upset about. I have called and left at least 4 messages for a return call on various follow-up matters and never has anyone ever returned my call. I have sent 3 emails, asking for a reply, and never has anyone ever replied. When I call, they put me on hold and never return. So I've decided to give up on this vet office, HOWEVER they hold the key to my dog's health in the prescriptions my dog needs daily and monthly. So, I've ordered her meds online, and despite the fact that I have the prescriptions in my hand, FDA requires the vet give them direct approval. So the online source for the meds sent TWO faxes in the past days requesting approval for my dog's meds and NO REPLY!!! I've spent an hour on the phone just this morning with both the pharmacy and the vet, and Dr. Gully has decided that "she will get to it when she wants to." I now require overnight shipping as Bornder Animal Hospital just does not do what they are required under the law. I can only imagine that WHEN & IF Dr. Gully decides that my dog needs her meds, so she should do her job and give the simple approval, but I'm guessing the total and complete incompetence of this clinic to handle my dog's care will result in Dr. Gully MAYBE approving the dispensing of one month of meds. My dog has one year prescriptions as of 32/30/17, but my experience has proven to me that the Border Animal Hospital has no intentions of doing their jobs and/or what's right, under the law. Laws do not enforce themselves, is what Border Animal Hospital relies upon. It's now 7:20pm on the 3rd day that Border Vet has had the prescription approval, and they have NOT faxed it back to PetMeds. I have the prescriptions in my hand, but apparently under the law, they need to come directly from the vet. And Border Animal Hospital in Weslaco, TX just does not care. I contacted border animal hospital for general advisement and the receptionist, Gracie, was very rude over the phone. I was given information about the hours of operation and told that it was my pet therefore my choice to bring him in today. I asked to speak with a veterinary technician or perhaps the Doctor and she advised me to call back repeating the hours of operation. I went to the extent of having a house call made to avoid visiting border animal hospital. I do not recommend this hospital and I will inform everyone I know of this experience. Read Less

We had an emergency with our dog this past Sunday and, eventhough I called at 4PM to get her in (their website says they are open until 6:30P), they refused to see her. Never have I ever had such a horrible experience. First off the customer service was horrible. As an animal lover and a pet owner it broke my heart to have such horrible service. I arrived for an appt at 430 and was not taken back until 515. The manner in which the employees handled my two dogs having an accident was not at all professional and it was as if they were afraid to handle my dogs. There was faces made and disrespectful talk in the back. I heard the disrespectful comments because they left the door open the entire visit. There was no one on one time with the doctor other than him administering the vaccines. There was no extent discussion regarding my pets health just a "get it done" type of attitude. I paid almost two hundred dollars at the end of this visit and was told two different prices from in the exam room of the services. Also the attitude at the check out station from some older man was horrible and gave me attitude when I asked to see a break down of my bill. I literally left in tears from the frustration I could not believe these people gave to me and my dogs. As a animal lover and pet owner I will never bring my pets back here and I highly discourage anyone who cares so much for their pets to avoid this horrible establishment. If I could leave a lower rating I would for Customer Service. The wait times to get a medication refill are over 30min, even calling ahead of time. Then they tell me that they don't have it for the next 60 days. When it comes to medical records, they don't keep the x-rays "because their system had issues" so it got deleted. So now they don't know how my dog is doing in comparison to the first visit. Also, they claimed I have a balance of $40 from 6 months ago but they couldn't tell me how and why it did not show up before. Doctors are ok - not great or enough to offset the bad customer service. I am better off taking my dogs to the vets in México. Read Less

We've been pulling dogs from the Weslaco animal control holding facility to try to save them before they get put to sleep. Got 6 more of them out this Saturday and Sunday. Got a same-day appointment (on a Sunday) at Border Animal Hospital to have them all checked out and all have been placed into foster homes while their little bodies and souls heal from their ordeals. Our family pup, Buddy,was diagnosed with lymphoma in January 2016. He finally lost his battle with the disease September 30th. I just want to thank the staff for everything they did for our Buddy. I always use Border for my pet, confidence and trust are earned not given and the team at Border has worked hard to earn and keep my trust. I feel fortunate to have the support form the Border team for my pet. The Veterinarians not only ensure my pet is in excellent health, they also provide advice and education to me about how to best care for my pet as well. The boarding facility is excellent as well, I wouldn't use any other because the staff take such good care of my pet anytime I use their services while out of town. The people of the Border team make the real difference because they invest the time with both me and my pet. I'm a senior and new in the area and my beloved elderly shih-tzu was critical. Border Animal Hospital refused to sell me Hills Science Diet critical care food which every vet I've ever been to gladly sells without a prescription or appointment. The receptionist coldly said that they "weren't a retail store" and that they wouldn't sell it unless the animal was under their care. The next day I had no choice but to have Chloe euthanized. Even though "Border" is less than a mile from me, I drove to the Harlingen Humane Society. I had dreaded the thought of a shelter ending her life but it was the best decision I could have made. They were incredibly gentle and understanding. I'm SO glad I didn't take her to cruel Border for her last moments in life. Read Less

Called them early one morning a couple days after a long night at petdoctor911 with my rather complicated kitty, when I saw he wasn't getting any better with their ministrations. Was given a noon appointment with Dr. Nelson (their "cat specialist") but showed up to be visited by Dr. Early. I think he said his specialty was farm animals, but be that as it may, what I found was a vet with lots of grey hair (very common) and lots of common sense (most uncommon). He questioned one of the diagnoses rendered at petdoctor911 (on grounds of clinical history) and prescirbed an antibiotic for the second one that's more effective and works more rapidly (bactericidal rather than bacteriostatic). He also prescribed an NSAID for my cat's fever (present at 911 and even worse when at border) and pain, accounting for his reclusive abnormal behavior. We finished the visit with him reminiscing about how "the new docs" are trained to look for and treat very rare things and my musing about how 50 years ago we were sprinkling talcum powder on hearts for heart disease until somebody got the bright idea of opening chests and only sprinkling talcum powder on half of them. I was impressed that he didn't care a whit that I was managing my cat's diabetes directly and personally and he even complemented me on that management because my cat even under much stress (infection) wasn't spilling sugar in his urine and he feels lucky to get feline blood glucoses under 250; my goal is tight regulation with a 130 blood glucose maximum and I was largely achieving that before the current "setback". He was a bit concerned about the apparently "low" numbers until I told him I was using a human meter which typically reads 35% below a pet-specific meter like an alphatrack (or the lab facilities in his office). He mentioned he liked the alphatrack. He chuckled when I said I hated it because the strips cost a buck versus 25 cents in bulk on amazon for a human meter test strip. Bottom line: within 6 hours my cat was clearly feeling better, wasn't exhibiting abnormal behavior and was clearly on the mend within a couple days, afebrile and acting like a normal cat with normal blood glucoses on his prior therapy, to boot. This particular vet is "a keeper". Addendum: today, for the first time, my cat's blood glucose actually went pretty low on the same dose of insulin he'd been getting with normal blood glucoses prior to his UTI "setback", "earning" him a dose reduction (after dealing with the immediate problem). This is the first concrete sign he's healing. Read Less
