Dr. Brittany Taylor is the BEST! We are so grateful to have her advise and expertise when it comes to the care of our dog. She is honest and upfront about what works and how much you can expect to pay. She doesn't try to "sell" you on anything, but only recommends what is the absolute best for your animal and situation. She literally saved our dogs life by providing instruction to us when the dog ate rat poison, and she has always been so helpful with random questions and concerns. I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff or the Vets at this clinic. Between my daughters and I we have assortment from Rescue Great Danes, Basset Hounds, pugs, bulldogs, frenchies, and a couple of mixed breeds. When we moved here we went thru about three vets before a friend of ours said the best is South Bosque Holly takes her fur baby here also. We have seen and visited with almost every vet at the clinic and have had a positive experience with each and every one. But we do have a favorite and it would be Dr. Zamzow He is the most compassionate person he and the wonderful assistants have held our hands during a difficult time when you have to assist one of your gifts from God to leave. It's one of the hardest decisions ever. He is very knowledgeable and up to date on all the pets needs also are the other vets so I don't mind seeing anyone of them when we come in. The front staff are kind and helpful on the phone or in person and make me and my fur babies feel welcomed. I have never experienced a group of individuals work so well together to make a place where you feel safe and they understand these are not just animals they are family and treat you and yours like I believe they would treat their own family members.I've seen mention of prices, well they are worth every penny. What price can you put on a assistant who lovingly puts a soft quilt down for your very old sick family member to lay on and then the vet and assistant sits on the floor with you comforting you and your family member as you say your final good bye and then sits and tells you take all the time you need. Then walks you out and makes sure your okay. Then months later you receive an letter from Texas A & M saying that an donation was made in your family members name towards research. They also light a candle in the front saying they when the candle is lit someone is saying goodbye. My 8 month old pup Hazel loves everyone here and if they double there prices, I would find a way to take her here. These are just my feeling and opinions. But they are the best around and if you are looking for a professional , knowledgeable clinic full of compassion and the love of animals this is your place. Read Less

Reason for visit: I came in to have my 7wk old puppy checked out yesterday because it seemed her respirations were not normal, not just breathing fast like typical puppies do. To start off, my personal experiences both being a client and working in a clinic shed great light on what I would expect a clinic to look, and smell like-- yes, I said smell. This clinic hits every expectation I'd like to see when coming into a new (for me and my fur child) clinic. Everything is neat, tidy, and it smells wonderful. I was helped promptly by the receptionists, all of which were courteous. I waited a little while for my appointment (because I was used to walk-ins at my former clinic and sillily assumed) and was greeted 15 min prior to my actual appointment by a technician. STAFF:  I love that almost all the technicians are certified in SOMETHING- LVT or certified assistant. That let's me know my puppy is going to be cared for, and handled properly. The tech was very knowledgeable and was prompt with what she needed to do. Super friendly technician.My doctor yesterday was Dr.Zamzow, or Dr.Z, who had actually  been a technician at this facility before he recieved his DVM-- which set very well with me- so he knows the ins and outs. He was very informative and explained everything I would need to know. He did not seem or feel rushed to get me out like most typical vets. He took the time (even in-between other patients) to make sure my Marlee got what she needed. A few x-rays later and meds, we were good to go! A+++.Only thing is, their exam visit and x-ray is a little pricy, however, you get what you pay for- I would rather pay for professionalism and schooled knowledge at this facility than just pay for hired personnel that don't know what they're doing. I saw Dr Johnston today for my sick cat. I am new to the area and found him to be very thorough and professional. He explained treatment options and costs, as well as doing a very extensive physical exam. The entire staff seemed very caring and I was impressed with the facility. If you visit this location, be sure to ask for Dr. Robert!  If she had her own vet practice I'd give her 5 stars across the board.  However, I've had mixed experiences with some of the other vets here.  Overall, though, this is an amazing clinic.  The receptionists are friendly, there's plenty of room to sit, the waiting room is well-lit and airy with a coffee station for pet parents, and the staff are totally open to letting pet parents walk anxious puppies prior to an exam on the lawn outside (no worries about losing your appointment time, they'll just call your name outside when it's your turn!).  The office opens early and stays open until 6, and they're accommodating of people working a hectic full-time schedule. The prices at this office location are a bit higher than other offices in town, but this is by far the best vet practice in Waco (I've been to 3 others).  Dr. Robert will take the time to get to know you and your pet to ensure an accurate diagnosis.  I wasted hundreds of dollars, multiple vet visits, and months of time at other offices with veterinarians who didn't bother to take the time to find out what the root cause of my pet's problem was, so in my opinion I'd rather pay a little more up front and get the job done right the first time. They all about the money!!  Took my dog in, and I feel that they could`ve said what was wrong with her before they run an X-ray that they were unable to read but still charged for it. And all the tests were performed on her and come back with same result, unable to tell whats going on. But in the end I am been charged for some medicine, that they could`ve prescribe without hundreds of dollars in unnecessary tests. 40$ for 10 pills that you can buy them 16 for 4$ on Amazon   Nice people there, but their smile is very $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. We have used SBVC since 2000 or before, when Dr. Williams was there. We had to put 2 pets down since then, and were not charged since we were regulars. Today we had to put our 14 yr old dog down, called 1st thing this morning, but had to wait until 4pm, and were charged over $90to put her to sleep. We could have had her cremated for $100, but wanted to bury her w/the others. We will not be using their services with any future pets we get, they have only gone up with prices and down with customer care since Dr. Williams left. Read Less

One of our cats got very sick in February and we ended up having to put him down. The staff at South Bosque was extremely compassionate in the process. About a week later we received a sympathy card the entire staff had signed, and even later, a letter from Texas A&M saying that South Bosque had made a donation on behalf of our sweet baby Lars! It made me feel like, even though they had only known him for a short while, they really cared about Lars. As long as we live in the Waco area, we will never go to another vet! Read Less

I have been searching for a good vet in the Waco area for 3 years now and I came across them when I took my grandmother and her dog in who ended up having a rare case cancer and had to put down. Never have I seen such a compassionate and loving staff. I was in disbelief that this was a real veterinarian establishment. I then brought one of my dogs in for some issues and Dr. Taylor never gave up, she didn't try to take me for all of my money and went into great detail looking over my dog and explained everything in detail and with care. She didn't try to sell me on things I didn't need and didn't go beyond what she thought needed to be done to make a quick buck. I am so very thankful for this veterinary clinic, I wish they did equine because I would be taking them there as well. I highly and strongly recommend this clinic. I am still just blown away every time I go in from the receptionists to the techs to the vets. We walked into the clinic last Tuesday August 11, with our 5 year old Chihuahua (which is our baby ) scared to death after he had tried to jump on our bed Saturday night and missed would not put weight on back right leg . We took him to his regular Vet which after he examined him told us he should go see a surgeon said Booker could have a dislocated knee. Dr. Johnston was so nice and friendly talked to Booker and us making us feel at home and reassured. He gave Booker a very good exam and x-ray of the hip to make sure it was not broken suggested Booker stay on his pain meds for another week, and then we would go forward and see what comes next. The staff was so nice and friendly and there are not enough words to describe Dr. Johnston thank you for turning an awful day into a day filled with hope. I have been with South Bosque since 2006 when Dr. Williams owned the office. I am 100% disabled from the military and have 5 to 7 dogs at any one time and about 7 cats. When any of my animals were sick I always took them in to Dr. Williams office. No one else. The staff there is great, the Drs are super and the prices slightly higher but the reason I liked them was that this office let me make payments. In 9 years I spent thousands and thousands of dollars and not one check bounced.  The staff and Drs there are great and very caring. March 31, 2015 was Dr. Williams last day. He sold the business. The new owner will not allow checks. This I certainly understand when starting a new business. Due to this I will have to leave. But if you do want a good Vet, you have some wonderful vets at South Bosque. I want to wish Dr. Johnston much success in his new business. I love Dr. Roberts also she is such a sweetie. I am sorry to say that after 9 years with them I will have to leave them and find a vet who is willing to work with me and allow me payment plans. If not for that alone I would probably be there another 9 years. This vet clinic is the most wonderful animal care clinic I have ever been to. We travel a lot with our Frenchie and we've been to the West Coast, Midwest, Northeast, and South, going to vets at every stop and this is by far the best. I even like South Bosque better than our hometown vet. Dr. Ferguson is very knowledgeable and kind. We have had a wonderful experience every time we've come here. I can't praise this clinic enough. Archer, my 6 month old black lab, was going through a tough transition when we brought him home from the shelter. He was having a very bad diarrhea spell and he had some type of infection behind his left ear. I'm a first time "parent" myself, and I was worried sick about his health. I read the reviews online and came to the conclusion that South Bosque was for me. Boy am I glad! The entire staff treated us like part of the family. They ushered Archer and I through the back door immediately upon arrival into our own room(now if only we could get that type of service at my own doctor!) After the vet tech wrote down a summary of my concerns, Dr. Johnston came in to evaluate him. I can't speak highly enough of the professional and caring manner of which he exhibited during this appointment. He treated Archer like he was his own. During every part of the examination, he let it be known what exactly he was doing and how he was able to determine what Archer did and did not have. After that he left the room and came back with the medication that he prescribed and in detail went over what to do in the next few weeks until Archer was feeling chipper again! He also gave me a month by month set of instructions for Archer's vaccinations and complete puppy care to insure that his growth was proper and healthy. Like I said, I can't commend this man enough, I've been in the Marine Corps for 3 years and a student at Baylor for 2 and I haven't seen a doctor with this type of professionalism. After we were done we went to the front counter and I went to pay for the medications. Archer had another accident right there and the staff just went to work like a well oiled machine. Admittedly, the cost of the visit was extremely high, but I did consent to many tests just to make sure Archer was alright. I would definitely recommend this clinic. Read Less

We started going to South Bosque Vet Clinic when we moved to Waco last year, and (unfortunately) have had to see them several times for our lab.  Dr. Johnston is our usual vet, but we have seen Dr. Ferguson for 2 urgent appointments when Dr. Johnston was out of the office.  Both are professional, knowledgeable and caring.  They explain their diagnosis well and do not over-treat the problems.  The office is always clean and the office staff is very friendly / helpful.   We have been able to get in for appointments on the same day when there are urgent problems, and Dr. Ferguson even stayed late for one appointment. I walk in with a suggested diagnosis, and instead of listening to me (I've owned my pets as well as others for my entire life and recognize the symptoms of typical maladies), they proceed to run up hundreds of dollars in expenses and the results are always what I walked in saying what the problem was.  No more. Dr. J has always been very forthright in his diagnosis and quick to explain the implications and possible outcomes of each procedure. He is a very friendly, caring, direct, and honest individual. Ive even seen the staff cry with patients in certain circumstance because I was one of them. Unfortunately, my most recent visit to their office turned out to be one the worst and toughest days in my life. My 13 year old Goldens (TEX) kidneys were failing due to cancer in his body. When I posed the question of what I should do, he was very direct with my options, but wanted to do what was in the best interest of my dog and my family. A few days later, I received a hand-written note from Dr. Jered and his staff. I was deeply touched by their message and have it saved to this day. A day or two after I received their note, I received a letter from the Texas A&M Veterinary Research facility saying that a monetary donation had been made TEXs name. This gesture obviously wasn't something that they had to do, but definitely showed that they cared about the devastating situation that caused me to lose one of my best friends. They don't get any better than this. This clinic has been taking care of my Chihuahua for years and allowed him to live a very long and happy life even though he suffered from congestive heart failure. At age 15 he finally succumbed to kidney failure but not before Dr. Johnston did everything is his power to keep Taco Bell alive. When it came time to do the humane thing, it was done with compassion and concern for both me and Taco. Taco died in my arms and I know that at that last minute he felt safe thanks to the excellent care and love he received during his final days. The staff has always been so friendly and concerned during our visits. One thing I didn't mention is that I had moved from Waco to Temple right before Taco got sick and when Dr. Johnston received news from the emergency clinic in Temple that Taco was sick, he reached out to me out of concern for Taco. These guys cost at least 20% more than other vets I've been to. They also want about 7 dollars more per "check-up" visit than the 9 other vets in town I called.The last time I was in, they were helpful and answered all of my questions, but they also sent me home 150$ later with a 25$ bottle of ear drops for my dog that didn't work and were hard to administer. Once I called them back they said "If you want to come back in, we can get her some different medication that is a one time deal and costs about 35$"  Needless to say, my dog still has the ear infection and South Bosque wanted to charge me ANOTHER exam fee to be re-seen.  Can we say money grubbing? ?Recently my dog had a severe allergic reaction, along with a secondary staph infection, and they wouldn't allow me to post date a check, even though we'd been to them before.  (After calling about 9 other vets in the area - they stated that had we been currently clients of theirs they would have allowed this.)Either way I'm so much more pleased with EMERSON ANIMAL HOSPITAL that I am actually looking forward to working with them (Emersons.)  again. This is hands down the best vet office I've ever taken a pet to! My dog sees Dr. Hudspath, but I have friends who go to other vets in the clinic and they love them too. The office is off of HWY 84 past FBC Woodway, so it is a little off the normal path. I stumbled upon my vet when my dog had to take a trip to the Waco ER Clinic. I was so impressed by her care for my dog, and her desire to explain things to me clearly, that I decided she would be our full time vet! My dog recently had major surgery and they explained things to me so I understood, never made me feel bad for asking questions, and let me come play with him when he had to stay there multiple nights.
