My family and I are very concerned about the lack of care for my brothers cat. My brother is only 22 and had his cat from the time he was 14. He is autistic and his cat was his life. He spent all of his tax return, around $1500.00, on his cats care with this vet. The cat never got better. The vet, for this much money, only gave antibiotics and saline solution. My brother, now without money, took it upon himself to contact the humane society seeking out free care. The humane society told him that in order for them to treat his cat he would have to sign over his rights to them. With a very heart my brother did what he had to do and gave them his cat. The next day the humane society was so very kind to contact my brother and inform him that his cat had full-blown wide-spread cancer and that they had to put his cat to sleep. I am very concerned about this vet and that their practice is driven primarily for financial gain only. It is strange to me that the humane society could diagnose cancer in one visit but yet this vet, seeing this cat multiple times, NEVER mentioned or diagnosed cancer. Avoid this place. Read Less

Called ahead and told it would be a $50 visit. Had immediate availability. Clean new looking office. Charged $159. Dog left practically the same as we brought her in. Waste of time and money. She came in with a very dirty ear and still had all the discharge and hair in it when we left, even though they charged us for the hair removal which Bridgette said she couldn't do. Very expensive and bad experience. We were given an ear cleaner and ottic solution to go home to clean & remove hair ourselves. Go elsewhere where they will actually try to resolve the problem. I suppose that is why there was only one other client when we got there and no one as we left abt 3pm. I am unhappy with undone work and high cost. Follow up: Telephoned today per lack of written instructions. Stickers on each medicine bottle contraindicated what tech told us to do. If they were unable to treat her with hair removal, ear cleaning nor medications at the office- then how should I know when to begin? Her ear is not swollen shut. Yes it has brown discharge-don't vets ordinarily try to remove it so the medications can do their job? I called to get some questions answered about the medications. A female clerk corrected me by saying, "gentamyacin is NOT an antibiotic" and put me on hold. A male tech picked up to say it is an antibiotic and told me to wait until the swelling went down to start. I asked how to tell when to begin (with the brown discharge it's hard to see deep within but the tissues that can be seen are the same size as the unaffected ear. The skin is pink with no excoriation nor apparent ulcerations; see pic after first dose from home). Brigette had told us to wait a week before using the otic drops- the bottle says, "flush the ears once a week or when ears get inflamed." I asked for clarification over the phone. The male said to use it AFTER the ear inflamation goes away. Good thing I asked because that isn't what the label says. Also Bridgette told us to give the otibiotic 3x a week when the label says "twice a day..." My concern...why did the vet leave both treatment and instructions to techs? In past experiences my vet both treated and gave the instructions. Getting verbal instructions from technicians that contradict the medication labels is confusing especially when no other written instructions are available. I had clipped her back toenails earlier that day and chose not to do the ones in front because she was guarding because of her ear. Millie is a rescue. She is a happy toy breed who is doing well with our family. We love her and care for her. Our old vet would have both treated and taught and included the treatment in the office charge plus the cost of medications. When I called for an estimate none of the added charges were mentioned. Of course you pay for the medications. The two 2oz. meds cost $36. But as to others saying this is a reasonably priced vet I disagree. Additionally minimal effort was made by the technicians to alleviate the problem the dog was being seen for... No one in our party of three recalls an offer to sedate and treat -only that we should use benedryl at home 20" before treating. I pointed out the longer dewclaws and requested the clip. I was very put off that my dog left with her same ear full of brown discharge. We were nearly $160 the poorer from the experience. There is good reason other vet practices are crowded and busy. Caring comes from doing. When little is done and much is charged pretty new vet offices can be found with many empty seats. We miss our newly retired vet. Hopefully we will find another; equally invested in hands on animal care who doesn't leave the work to techs who tell the owner to do it themselves, dismiss performing the basics of cleaning and medicating a discharging ear, and provide confusing medical instructions. No labs were done to detect the cause, no cleaning of debris nor were any medications applied. $160 for this level of care in my humble opinion is a farce. Read Less

I love taking our cat to UPVH! I have taken her in twice for a physical & then a check-up, and both times the vet techs and Dr. Doub were so kind and genuine. I tend to have lots of questions, and they are always willing to address them all and they definitely make me feel listened to. There have been 3 separate times that I have emailed them about strange symptoms in our cat, and they have always responded promptly. (And they have only recommended that I bring her in 1 of those times. They educated me on potential symptoms to keep an eye out for the other two times. I really appreciate that they are conservative with recommending office visits. It makes me feel like I can trust them!) I would definitely recommend UPVH! Read Less

Horrible experience with this vet. I am a foster parent for Utah Animal Advocacy so I am familiar with many of the vets in the area due to so many pets coming through my home that need medical services. My initial estimate for my own dogs surgery was between $600 and $750 so imagine my surprise when I went to check out and my bill was over $1,200? My 7 year old rescue dog has only 4 remaining teeth in her mouth and they were fangs so I wanted to preserve them as much as I possibly could but they ended up pulling 2 of them and cleaning the other 2 and removing a growth from her neck. The growth removal was only $180 but the dental cleaning of 4 teeth was just ridiculously high priced. The vet told me that scaling and cleaning of the teeth was the same price if your dog still had 30 teeth or just 4 which makes no sense at all! I waited over an hour to retrieve my dog and take her home and we took her elsewhere to remove her stitches and the prices were confirmed by 3 other vets that their prices are completely unjustified. Be very careful when considering this vet practice. Read Less

They have absolutely no regard for finances and what it cost for veterinary care. it's very easy to be kind and loving when your charging a bundle. The last two visits were the absolute final straw for me:1) I have a 14 year old dog who has some lumbs and tumors  (who my previous vet from out of states said these were fatty tumors and did not require intervention) and Dr. Daub HIGHLY recommended exploratory surgery and biopsy to the tune of $1,500 JUST to determine what we should do next. That is malpractice to suggest a dog at that age go under anesthesia just for exploratory surgery. (the equivalent of a 98 year old grandmother should not be a candidate for surgery! Mind you our precious dog is completely deaf and blind in one eye and halfway blind in the other AND always a bit confused! why stress her out more?) P.s. it's not that I don't love and take care of my dog as best I can, I had already spent $700 on blood work/medication and $400 on a knee injury (possibly alc tear) with 5 laser treatments in the previous two months! final straw & reason i will never return:2) My dog has been on nerve pain medication which is usually $25 a month. When i called to renew it last month they told me they didn't have it in the 100mg tabs but only 50mg tabs but that they would just give me twice as many. and instead of charging the usual $22 they charged me $80!!!!!! without telling me there would be an up-charge they charged my credit card that was on file and only once my recipe was emailed did i notice this!! And when i called to complain they said it was my error that i did not ask if there would be a price difference. I had a relationship with this vet for 7 months and was a frequent customer because of my sweet elderly dog and all of her needs as well as my other dog. thoroughly disappointed. take your business and your precious pups elsewhere! (I had to put one of my dogs down this year due to age related health problems, and she brought him a sausage she had cooked up just for him, for his last meal! What other vet would do that?! She's amazing!) I'm also excited to see such young, fresh faces in this industry to help educate me about proper necessities for my pets! Whether it be food, medical procedures, etc... The staff has been friendly and courteous for the most part. I did have one staffer get pretty impatient that I didn't respond to her text immediately. It has also been very difficult to dissuade them from asking me repeatedly to do optional procedures. I decided to get a blood panel for my dog, they told me I should buy dog food from them and gave me something that read more like a sales brochure than real clinical information. They told me I'd need a follow up and didn't say anything about cost. I probably shouldn't have assumed the follow up was included in the original cost. Guess what, I didn't buy their food, I didn't change anything, but the dog's condition had improved and since then, every few months, they tell me to come in for another follow up and I can't get them to stop contacting me for these optional procedures. You know, I get it... you need money to keep the lights on, but this is ruining my trust in you as medical professionals when it seems like your primary goal is sales. Read Less

Communication is atrocious, and integrity is non existent. We were quoted over the phone by a girl named Meisha, who claims to have directly asked the vet, for a specific blood test to be done. After calling probably 100 different clinics throughout the valley, we chose to come here, because not only was their price just a little less than everywhere else, the reviews seemed favorable. When we brought our little puppy in and had the test performed, the test price doubled (this test is already in the hundreds of dollars to begin with). They didn't care that they had quoted us on a completely different price before we booked an appointment, and they charged us this overwhelmingly outrageous rate. Even the most prestigious vets in the valley charged a good $100 less that they did. Furthermore, they said the would contact us when they received confirmation when this blood test was delivered (should have been an overnight delivery). Four days later and we just called in and had to ask for this confirmation. (No apologies given for any of their mistakes) We just relocated to Hawaii, and there is a very strict process to get your pets here. The time frame with the different tests that have to be performed are EXTREMELY particular, and we made that very clear to them throughout this process. We are disgusted that they would not only double the price on us after the test was done, but they lacked all respect for our requests and concerns. We have very specific travel arrangements that we have to purchase and plan around getting our sweet puppy here with us, and their unapologetic and disrespectful mistakes have not only made this process prolonged, but makes them undeserving of even a one star review.
