I went there to have them look at my 11 month old puppy because he was acting really lethargic and could barely stand up and it took them 2 hours to even get us in a room and the staff was extremely unprofessional. After waiting for so long they finally came in the room and said that they needed to do blood work, X-rays and a urinary analysis. After all that they kept him in the back and didn’t bring him back out to me. Then the so called doctor came and told me that everything was normal and that he is just dehydrated (no skin pull test was performed) I was charged 613$ to find out that everything was normal?!?! No thank you!! I am so angry!!!! I finally went up and told them that I did not want to be there any longer and that I wanted my dog so I could take him to a real vet. What a joke. I found out after I had paid that they did the same thing to my brother. And my brothers dog died like 2 weeks later from what they saw her for, if you love your pets please don’t take them to this “money pit” Read Less

I don't have any complaints about my puppy's treatment from the doctors that saw her. The 3 stars are for the terribly long wait. I was told at check-in that since she was a transfer from another vet ER and they were expecting her, that they would try to get us in sooner because of that. I waited over 2 hours in the waiting room (I only saw 3 others in the waiting room before me). and then another 30 minutes in an exam room before being seen. When she was released I was again told that since I was just picking her up I wouldn't have much of a wait. It was faster this time, but it was still about 40 minutes before they came down the hall with her. I don't see why walking her out would take so long. No complaints about her care, but the wait will keep me from wanting to go back. Their prices are also very high (but they are specialists) and if I didn't have pet insurance I would have a hard time paying for care that is needed. Read Less

Earlier this week I rescued a sick looking kitten from behind the building where I work in Sandy. I was extremely concerned about this kitten's health and wanted to take it to a vet to have it checked out as soon as possible. I got off of work at 10 pm so I needed to find a 24 hour vet office to take it to. Unfortunately I landed on this place. I took the kitten to the office and immediately the woman at the desk was very condescending and spoke to me in a manner that had me easily overwhelmed and anxious. I was given the option to either claim ownership of the kitten and be financially responsible for it or to give it up and not know anything else about the situation. I felt very pressured and when I asked for an estimate on cost of even just a simple check up, the woman refused to give me any sort of information which made it impossible to make an informed decision thus scaring me into waiving ownership of the kitten because I didn't know if I'd be able to afford it. After settling on that decision of giving up the kitten I was told that they would comfort the kitten and give it food for the night and that it would be transported to the county shelter the next day where they would rehabilitate it and where I could call and receive updates on the kitten's wellbeing. This made me feel better. I figured this was a pathway I could engage in potentially adopting this kitten through. Very good. Wrong. This all transpired on a Monday night, I waited until Wednesday afternoon to call the shelter because I wanted to give the kitten time to recuperate. Well when I called the local shelter they had no idea what I was talking about. They had never received the kitten. Eventually the shelter found someone who knew of the situation and what had happened. Apparently that night at the vet there was a local foster mom at the vet's office that offered to take the kitten in because of its age. So they did. They gave the kitten to that foster mom after PROMISING me that it would be at a shelter where I could receive updates about it. They lied to me. After knowing how important this situation was to me they lied to me. Luckily the shelter was far more helpful and gave me a number to call of the lady that has the kitten. I still have not heard back from her yet. I was planning on offering to foster or potentially adopt the kitten myself, but that opportunity I feel is almost all but lost because of the lies I was told by this office. If I end up missing the opportunity to take this kitten into my home I will be utterly heartbroken. I cannot believe a place that is supposed to be about caring for animals would make it so hard for someone who wants so desperately to help an animal. I am devastated and hope that I can find out where this kitten ended up. GOING TO THIS VET OFFICE FOR HELP WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I COULD HAVE MADE IN THIS SITUATION. NEVER AGAIN. **Please don't insult me with trying to reply to my post, literally nothing you can say will make me feel better about this situation. My heart is broken. You can't try and save face with me.** Read Less

Only because there is no option for ZERO stars. I took my precious dog in here a few months ago and, after a short exam, it was recommended that I put her down. After an agonizing hour of trying to figure out what to do, I allowed them to put her to sleep. I was and still am devastated by the whole experience. The female doctor there was cold and uncaring. The technician tried to be of assistance but couldn't answer all my questions. I asked if I could just 'take her home' and was told 'NO". By the time I was allowed back to see her, she was in considerable distress - much more than when I brought her in. It broke my heart to see her that way. I wanted to make sure I did the 'right thing' and asked for her medical records after picking up her ashes. The whole ordeal still upsets me to this day. After taking her medical records to FOUR other vets in the area, I was given 'plans' of what could be done to remedy my baby's issues. Not ONE suggested euthanasia. NOT ONE!!! I also provided these same vets with medical records from another dog I had taken there only to find out that ALL FOUR again stated that based on the medical records, the length of time and treatment they would have kept my dog was 2 to 3 days NOT the SIX days they kept and treated that dog and costs would have run me only about 75% of what I was charged for that visit. All vets did say, however, that maybe the documentation on the medical records didn't paint the entire picture. My question would be then 'why not'? Why would the intentionally leave out critical information? Long story short, there are several other facilities that see pets after hours or for emergencies - - - if you love your pet as much as I loved mine, PLEASE always get a second opinion and don't be railroaded by what they tell you here. It's unfortunate that Utah does not recognize pets as 'family' instead of property - I would have sued to shut this place down!!!! Read Less

Just a few days after bringing home our new puppy he managed to shear off the outer layers of his cornea with his dew claw. The lesion and subsequent ulceration of the tissue in his eye were massive- covering almost the entire eye. We were referred to Dr. Disney at Blue Pearl and she was fantastic. Our visits were quick, and the staff was wonderful with our little boy. His treatment was pretty intense at first with an e-collar, eyedrops and cleaning many times a day and weekly follow up visits to check progress. Within 4 weeks the lesion was healed completely and in the past few weeks a continued steroid drop at home has almost completely cleared the scar tissue from the eye. Our pup is super active, happy and growing. Thank you so much to Dr. Disney, Megan and the entire team at Blue Pearl for helping us through this and saving the vision of this beautiful little boy. I have very mixed feelings about our visit. About 2 weeks ago our big dog and little dog were playing and it turned ugly. It was a Saturday night and his wounds required stitches. So we took him up there to be treated. First off the guy at the front desk was SO rude. If he’s there doing work with animals and it’s what he’s passionate about that’s great but he has no business being the first thing people see when they walk Into the clinic. His attitude just made my already rough night even worse. The stitches my dog received were so very poorly done, and to top it off there was an open wound on the other side of his body that was missed and turned into an abscess. For the amount of money they charged me to see my dog and treat him I expected way way better care. It’s unfortunate that they charge so much only to do very mediocre treatment. If your situation is immediate and life threatening it’s great that there is somewhere 24/7 that you can go too, but if your fur babies can wait to be seen by their regular vet I’d do that. On the plus side the nurse that took care of our dog was wonderful. We had to leave our babe overnight to be taken care of and I was glad that she was so sweet to him. Read Less

They helped save my sweet girl! My girl had a lot of fluid in her lungs. She has congestive heart failure that hit her very quickly. She went from coughing a little to laboring to breathe within a day. My regular vet and a specialist my sister knows were kind enough to see her after hours. Dr Tucker (the specialist) gave her a shot of Lasix to help clear out her lungs and referred us here for 24 hour care. She was in critical condition when we got there so the technicians took her back right away to get her on oxygen. There was a bit of a wait to see the doctor, but it was midnight by the time we got here, so that was fine. My girl was already being worked on so I knew she was OK. Thanks are owed to Dr. Vicki Campbell and the ICU team for taking good care of her. Thank you also to the reception staff who were so nice to me during this hard time. They DID have me pay a deposit. This was on the low end of the estimate. I know that this is what has upset a lot of reviewers. I was happy to pay it. This hospital has a lot of specialized equipment. Every thing that they do costs THEM money. With my deposit I knew that they would be able to do what was needed for her in an emergency without having to call me to authorize treatment. Running a hospital like this is expensive and they need to get paid. Especially in a case like this where her survival was in question, I was happy to get money out of the way so that they could focus on helping her. At the end of her stay, the balance was actually a little less than I was expecting. I know that at 15, she doesn't have a lot of time left, but she is doing so much better. I am so grateful that I have more time with her. Read Less

We brought our dog in after several days of symptoms that led us to worry he might be constipated. The staff all but rolled their eyes at us, saying it was probably actually diarrhea even though he hadn't had any diarrhea. They acted like we didn't know the difference and wouldn't know what was abnormal for our pet. We asked what symptoms to look for in the future, and the doctor just said "It's hard for pet owners to tell" which was not the slightest bit helpful. Then they conducted a rectal exam, after which they said the found nothing wrong. They also did blood tests which took twice as long as they stated it would. Since we had been there for two hours by that point, we took our dog outside and he finally pooped a rock-hard poop that was clearly obstructing everything that came out after it. The vet then told us the blood tests were normal and recommended x-rays. I told her I didn't think that was necessary, so she said if it were her dog she would do an IV to rehydrate him. It seemed strange that she didn't even mention that until we decided not to go through with the expensive x-ray. When we tried to pay and leave they took 15 minutes to wrap up the invoice. I mentioned to the guy at the front desk that there was blood on the lobby floor from an injured dog (clearly a potential health hazard) and he didn't even acknowledge me. After working on his computer for several more minutes he brought out a mop and cleaned it up. We spent several hours and hundreds of dollars at this hospital and were treated with indifference and disrespect. The staff seemed more interested in running tests and racking up bills than helping our dog get healthy. No sense of urgency or words of compassion for us as worried pet owners. Definitely will not return. Read Less

This was the absolute worst experience of my life. They made my girlfriend and I wait 3 hours to have them tell us our cat was okay. He literally screams in pain when he tries to walk. We informed them we saw he had bloody stools (severely bloody) and they said he was fine, when we got home there was blood on the pad inside his carrier. They said he may have a herniated disc and immediately got extremely predatory saying it would cost $150 to have a second physician take a look at the X-rays right away. They also put us in an empty room for 45 minutes claiming they were ready for us. One of the nurses then came to talk to us and he was still eating his lunch. These issues barely even begin to scratch the surface. This place is absolute trash, we get it’s your job, but take some pride in it. Have some empathy for these creatures that we consider family. Dr. Wright and the team were able to find that my dog had stomach cancer. This was really important for me to know so I could make the best decisions possible for him. I really liked the print-out sheet they gave when I left that described the medications, findings, and plan for him. I thought it was super helpful and I have never gotten anything like it before, at a regular doctor or vet! This place is much better than Advanced Veterinary Care on 3300 S, where I had a terrible experience. I would only say the BluePearl building feels really cold inside, like a hospital, and I got the feeling my dog really did not want to stay there. This is opposite of University Veterinary, where my dog loves it there. Their schedule also was pushed back a lot on the day I had an appointment, and I felt like they didn't do a great job telling me my dog would be there for a longer time. But other than that I would recommend this place. Read Less

If I could give ZERO stars I would! I took my epileptic Golden Retriever in after he had a really bad seizure. 24 hours after the seizure he was throwing up almost every 20 minutes, wouldn't eat or drink, etc. Our main concern and reason for brining him in was because he takes 12 anti-seizure pills a day, and being that he was constantly throwing up he wasn't keeping any of his pills down. We were worried he was going to go into another seizure. Dr. Schiffer is the one that saw us and she was awful! Here we are, worried about our dog (like anyone would be in our situation) and the first thing she says to us when she walks in is "so why exactly are you here if he's just throwing up?"... Let me also point out the RUDE and condescending tone in which she said that. She treated us like we were a complete waste of her time from the get-go, before even examining the dog. She couldn't have cared less. He wasn't JUST throwing up.... He's an epileptic dog who at his point had gone over 24 hours without his anti-seizure pills because he couldn't keep any food or water down.  After spending about 5 seconds PRETENDING to care about our sick dog, completely ignoring all our concerns and questions, she tried to prescribe our dog an anti-nausea medication via IV. The medicine she suggested CAUSES SEIZURES and CANNOT be used on epileptic dogs! It directly counteracts the anti-seizure medications he takes. It's a good thing we pay attention to what kind of medications our dog can and cannot take! If we wouldn't have noticed what kind of anti-nausea medicine she was trying to prescribe, it could have killed him. At the least it would have given him several seizures. Not to mention she was quoting $1,200 for this medicine + watching him overnight. This woman is supposed to be a DOCTOR! She could have likely killed our dog and robbed us $1,200 as well!!! We've spent over $7k+ in 8 months on our dogs health so money is not the issue. The issue was her lack of concern, empathy, consideration, and basic KNOWLEDGE. If you HAVE to go to this clinic, I pray you don't, DO NOT see Dr. Schiffer! She's so incompetent it's scary!!! Read Less

If I could give 0 stars I would! They just wanted to do as many test as they could so they could collect money.  That's all they cared about was money.  When we asked questions the  doctor couldn't give us any straight answers, she just  threw out as many scary scenarios as she could, including "he could pass in the middle of the night" really?!.  They weren't even practical or methodical about the "treatment plan" they just wanted to do it all and throw everything but the kitchen sink at it.  The doctor came  in super serious and dramatic like our kitten was going to die. She wasn't considerate of our feelings and had no empathy whatsoever.  As soon as we made it apparent we were going to get a second opinion they couldn't get us out there fast enough.  They didn't even administer the first dose of medication.  I'd think if it was important they'd want it in his system right away.  they gave it to us with the instructions and sent us on our way. We have a senior diabetic dog. She's never had a seizure before but yesterday she suffered her first. Blue Pearl is the closest emergency vet to my house so we brought her there. The vet finally comes in and says it wasn't diabetic related she has a significant heart murmur and brain lesion. They kept referring to the estimate even though we told her it had nothing to do with money. She told us it would be $1900 for tests or it was time to discuss quality of life. Having had it with the rudeness of every individual there and the unprofessionalism we inquired if she was stable enough to move her to her normal vet. She was. We were prepared for the worst (not wanting her to die in that awful place we drove her to our vet). Come to find out. NO HEART MURMER , NO BRAIN LESION. Just a diabetic seizure she was there for 24 hours and charges us under $500(not that money was our concern)every part of our experience was unprofessional and concerning they were answering there phone with pricing rather than concern.  Between the misdiagnosis and there focus on money I would never recommend coming here you deserve better treatment and so does your pet. If I could give zero stars I would. Ps our dog is home with us tonight safe happy and sprightly. Those people would have us kill her. Her day may be coming soon but it wasn't yesterday. Read Less

AMAZING FOR EMERGENCIES!!! My 9 month old malamute accidentally overdosed on medications of which she had torn the whole bottle open and ate them like candy. (on a sunday morning) I found the bottle a few minutes later. I immediately searched for emergency veterinarian's and found Blue Pearl and called them. After answering a series of rapid assessment questions, I was directed to call a veterinarian toxicologist. While we were en route to the hospital I consulted with the toxicologist and they produced a report for BluePearl physicians to review all prior to our arrival. When we got to the facility, they were prepared and anticipating our arrival and took her straight into the back to perform procedures to prevent major problems or possibly death of my pet. The service from start to finish was exceptional and the emergency system they have available is amazing. Additionally, the cost of her treatment was actually a decent amount lower than other weekend emergency vet visits I have made with other pets in previous years using an on-call veterinarian. Very nice staff, but if you're bringing in anything other than a dog, don't come here!! When I brought in my cat two nights ago, we were the only people there. My cat needed x rays on his stomach to check for foreign bodies and some blood work. He wasn't eating or drinking anything. We were there for over 3 hours and saw several dogs come and go, some that needed x rays and blood work just like my cat. We ended up being the last ones there as well just for them to tell us that he probably just ate something that didn't agree with him. We paid $500 and were only instructed not to give him food until the next day. Two days later, I call them and let them know he's still not eating or drinking anything and they just tell me I should bring him back in to get him checked out! This is what I brought him in to begin with and, with a new baby at home, I don't have $500 and 3 hours to throw down on them just telling me that he "ate something weird." I am just going start this by saying DO NOT COME HERE. With all due respect the working staff were wonderful. But on the other hand the practicing Vet was absolutely horrid. (Deborah J. Schiffer) Coming in with over 200+ hours with volunteering experience at a shelter and hundreds of hours working at a shelter she was blatantly rude, and performed unnecessary treatment such as sedating him for stitches while he had a muzzle on (which was performed in the operating room). I am still shocked on how my dog and my SO and I were treated.  My dog is a pit mix who was bitten in the shoulder by a neighbors dog and was fine until he had itched at the site ripping it open and scratching at it. He was scared and nervous and she had the audacity to state that he was an aggressive dog when he was literally the one attacked. I am amazed at how poorly this woman treated us. They charged us $500 and want us to come back to change the gauze daily for an additional $40 per day... Do not support this practice or this woman. They will take advantage of you given the chance. I don't usually write reviews, but I thought in this case it might be helpful so that people coming here for the first time know what they're in for. We didn't realize that when you take your pet here it is not like going to your vet's office. They take your pet in the back and you will be left to either sit in the waiting room or in a little exam room WITHOUT your pet. Our dog was very sick when we took him in and they took him into the back and after about 30 minutes someone ushered us back to an exam room. We were told they needed to do blood work and that it should take about 1/2 an hour. At the same time they presented us with a paper to sign that stated what the cost would be, which seemed high, but hey, it's after hours. We were also asked about the history of his present illness at least 4 different times (I actually think it was 5). I don't know why it wasn't written down the first or second time. Anyway . . . two hours later, still sitting in a teeny tiny exam room without our dog I went out to the receptionist's desk and let them know we really needed to know what was next. I didn't want to be that person who felt their needs superseded those of everyone else, but I also felt we had perhaps been forgotten. I was told we should hear from someone shortly. Another 20 minutes passed and I went out again and asked about an update. About 5 minutes later the vet came in. She told us the results of the labs that were taken and that our next step was likely imaging, which she quoted at anywhere from $1300 to $2200. They would not be able to do it that night, so thankfully we just took our dog and went home to follow up with our primary vet. I feel that this place fills a niche as a 24-hour care facility to take your pet to when all other options are unavailable, but I do not recommend it unless the circumstances are extremely dire. It is run like a factory, and in fact we heard the receptionist speaking on the phone to someone that they could have their pet euthanized but they could not be present for it and they would need to take the remains home with them. Having been through this before, I feel that having the choice to be with your pet at that time is important. Compassion and support seems to be missing here, plus you don't really know how respectfully this is being done if you are not there to witness it. Also, I would be hard pressed to know how to bury a large dog in frozen ground in Utah in January, so support in that area would also be helpful. There may be a qualified team that this location can boast of, but there is definitely something missing and I would recommend seeking out other alternatives for emergency veterinary care. Read Less

I came here based on a friend's recommendation after my dog slipped a disc in his back and needed emergency surgery. The staff was SO kind and patient and did everything they could to make both my dog and I comfortable. They were sensitive and kind when I was upset. Clear and incredibly helpful when explaining anything. And so very willing to do whatever they could to help put my mind at ease. I was literally told to call any time that I needed an update on how my dog was doing so I wouldn't worry; which was incredibly helpful in reducing my anxiety about everything. Additionally, the surgery and resulting hospital stay was very reasonably priced; especially considering that it was a last minute, emergency walk-in first thing in the morning. I'd recommend Blue Pearl in a heartbeat. I just wish I lived closer so I could become a regular there for more mundane pet needs. Read Less

Last Saturday I found my cat drooling and unable to close his mouth. It was 9PM and my vet was closed so we came here. Turns out, his teeth were so bad and one canine tooth was so loose it prevented him from closing his mouth. They were unable to do a dental procedure there, so I would have to wait until Monday. However, since I knew my cat would just hide if I took him home, we left him there for two nights so the techs could manually move his canine tooth to allow him to close his mouth. I took him to my regular vet yesterday and they confirmed Dr. Perez's diagnosis. Dr. Perez was very kind talking to me especially when I broke down crying. The staff there is wonderful. Very caring and took great care of my kitty. If I have another emergency (heaven forbid) I'll bring my pet here. And the final charge came in less then the estimate, so I got a bit of a refund.  Looks like this place is now Blue Pearl Vet Pet ER Network. I will never visit this Vet center again. I took my dog in at around 10 pm because he got one of his front dew claws caught on a piece of carpet and ripped it. He was bleeding everywhere so we came here because it was close. It is $85 for the initial exam and they quoted me around $300 to get him sedated and clip the dew claw off entirely so it could grow back healed. I agreed to this and the procedure took about an hour so I waited. Upon getting my dog back, he whined the whole way home when I held him and when we got home about 5-10 minutes later I tried to make him comfortable and situated for bed. Where I was upset was that about 5 minutes after we got home my dog lost all bowel movement and nerve control. He had a diarrhea accident all over my brand new white down comforter and I immediately took him back to the clinic. I was told he was having a rare reaction to the anesthetic they had given him. His eyes were glazed over and he couldn't even keep his tongue in his mouth. Needless to say, I requested a copy of what they had given him and high tailed it the hell out of there after I went completely berserk on the staff. We watched him closely all night and the medication wore it's way off and he was safe and normal again but I was definitely scarred for life. My baby has been under general anesthesia before and has had no complications so I am convinced they gave him too much sedative and that I find reckless and negligent. I will never again take my dogs here or recommend such a place. Read Less

They knew us and Lu, and were always quick to greet us and help us. Even though we received a lot of bad news and eventually had to say goodbye to our pup, there is no place we would rather have taken her. I also need to mention how helpful Dr. Scherk was before her diagnosis. We were there typically on appointment during business hours, but we also had several after-hours emergency visits. I brought my 14 year old cat into this facility for emergency care. This cat was extraordinarily special to me (to the point that it literally feels weird referring to him as just a cat). They really took time explaining to me the diagnosis, the options, and prognoses. We decided that putting him to sleep was the most humane thing to do at that point. Although the experience was heart-wrenching, the doctor and all of the employees there that night were very compassionate. Even though he was in a lot of pain, they made him comfortable and he was purring peacefully as he was put to sleep. They sent me a very nice card in the mail a few days later that I thought was extra thoughtful with beautiful artwork on the front of a black cat just like mine. Then, after his body was cremated, they presented it in such a way that was much more special than I had expected. Obviously, I am very sad about losing my special little cat. But, these people made the experience as sweet, and peaceful, and special as it could have possibly been. Read Less

My 9 month old boxer puppy was acting very lethargic, non responsive and her hind legs were having a hard time holding herself up. We rushed her to the emergency room at almost 12:00 am. She was taken back in a gurney right away and then i was taking into a room to be questioned bye a vet tech to see what had happened to her. As i explained what had happened, trying to remember certain time frames, i felt like I was being judged and accused. They kept asking me if i had given my dog drugs or if there were drugs in our home, and there are not. There was no compassion from the vet tech questioning me which made me feel very uncomfortable. The doctor (Dr. Perkins I believe) was the exact same way. She was very unfriendly and very rude. The Doctor left and came back and told me what she needed to do. I didn't feel like i was given very many options to help treat our puppy and it felt like it was there way or nothing was going to work at all. I tried to explain to her that money was tight but we were willing to do what we could to help our puppy. She still made me feel like what her suggestions were were the only options that we had. Another male vet tech came in and was very kind, he tried to give me options that would best work for us, explaining what Care Credit was or what options we had that were less expensive but just as helpful. After speaking with my husband we decided to leave our puppy over night to be watched and have them give her fluids. The doctor thinks that she ingested a "toxin" (drugs and they made me feel) and with her staying over night, she was fine the next morning. We are unsure of what she ingested but didn't feel like it was fair to be judged and accused when we were trying to get care for our puppy that we love dearly. I will only use this facility in an emergency due to this being the closest 24 hour emergency vet from our home in Herriman. Read Less

They know you have to pay whatever outrageous amount they demand or your pet will die. When I questioned the amount, the vet had the nerve to tell me he had gone to school for 10 years, implying it was my job to pay off his student loans. I guess. He also said their facility was 'state of the art', it was hurtful that I might question the ethics of charging an exorbitant amount to hurting and desperate people. Worst experience of my life! I've used this hospital twice.  Once when our family dog got hit by a truck.  He had massive trauma and we were afraid he wasn't going to live.  That was several years ago.  This dog is alive and doing quite well.  And two days ago, when my dog had a seizure at night.  Different dog from the first.  In both circumstances, UVC was there to help us.  They were professional, considerate, knowledgeable, and warm.  The staff at this hospital are aware that they are expensive, so they address cost from the very beginning.  They offer low to high estimates based on the range of services that may be necessary.  With each decision about services, they refigure the estimated cost and present that to the customer.  In the case with both dogs, we were able to make informed decisions about the services we wanted.  Essentially, we used the hospital for stabilization, and then went back to our regular vets when the dogs were out of danger and could be stepped down into a lower level of care.  THIS IS A PET HOSPITAL.  This is not a regular vet.  You pay hospital prices like you would with a human ER.  I recommend them highly.  They offer some sort of credit program.  The brochures are located all around the waiting room. This place is a terrible waste of time and money. These vets have no idea what they are doing. I took my dog in last night with symptoms of dehydration and vomiting.  These vets wanted me to spend 600 dollars running tests to find out what is wrong. After I refused the tests I was given whole "your dog will probably die senario" I signed him out and was quoted close to 300 dollars for their "services". I go to pay at the front desk and the vet calls the clerk into the back and he comes out and charges me $50 dollars more for something they "forgot" to charge me. All and all the vet was butt hurt that I didn't take his advice and for good reason. I took my dog to my normal vet the next morning. It turns out that he just had a virus and needed some antibiotics.  The vets at this Midvale facility are great at practicing veterinary medicine but really have no idea and will clean out your bank account while giving you no real solutions. This week my beloved young kitty got into my sewing and ate a bunch of thread. It ended up looped under her tongue where we couldn't see it and ran all though through her digestive system. We didn't know what had happened just that she was acting not well and when we took to her our regular vet she said my cat needed surgery immediately from a specialist and sent us here. They were expecting us when we came in and wasted no time getting her in a room, checking her out, and prepping her for surgery. They were very clear with us about the costs, about all the things she might need, and gave us a best case and worst case scenario on the costs. Three incisions (one stomach, two intestines) and a day in the hospital later, kitty was ready to go home. She looked fairly happy, not stressed out. They gave her good pain management and us excellent care instructions. The surgery, while very expensive, came out on the low side of their estimates. They give excellent, quick, professional care and I would go to them again in an emergency. Most of the complaints I hear about this place is that they are too expensive, only want your money, etc. What everyone should remember is that this is not like your regular vet. It is open 24-7, has round the clock staffing, and has doctors prepared to do very complicated surgery instantly, day or night. It is incredibly expensive business to run. Taking your pet here is like you going to the emergency room instead of your GP. It's much much more expensive, and if you can wait you are better off with an office visit, but in an emergency you are glad it's there and don't question the cost. Read Less

My dog came in with a rather nasty cut on her leg. The vet took a look, then gave us two estimates: $800 or $1500... Our jaws hit the ground... We said we didn't have that kind of $ on hand, and without skipping a beat, the vet asked, "do you have $500? ... Or I can send you home with pain killers rx."Well, since I can't very well have my poor pup bleeding all over, getting infected and dying, I managed to get $500 and the vet team did a great job of fixing up my dog... My only real concern is the $300 jump from the official estimates to what they ultimately charged. I understand the need to make money, I really do, but there is a huge difference between being profitable and price gouging. They quoted us $40 for my dog's rx, but Target Pharmacy only charged $15.As others have said, it's an ER, so expect an inflated price, however, don't be afraid to at least try to haggle... It'll still be pricey, but $500 is better than $800 or $1500!Ps.. My dog is healing wonderfully, and looks to be headed for full recovery. They did a good job. Read Less

I love this place.  I moved to Salt Lake City five weeks ago.  I have a service dog named Boscoe and I got him a puppy for Xmas to keep him company.  Service dogs have shorter life spans than most dogs but you can mitigate that by allowing the dog to be a dog as much as possible and by having a companion to keep them company.  Both dogs are St Bernards.  When we moved here we had to stay in a hotel for two weeks before we could move into our house.  One night, Boscoe was playing with Gelsey (our puppy) and she accidentally tore his ACL while playing.  A friend's vet recommended UVC and in particular, Dr John Stephan.  Dr Stephan is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in ACL tears and total hip replacements.  The facility is very nice and clean and the entire staff was AWESOME!!!  Boscoe is literally my life.  If he's not 100%, neither am I.   Dr Stephan and his staff took great care of Boscoe.  Dr Stephan did the surgery, was upfront about the fees BEFORE the surgery was even scheduled, and gave me very specific instructions for Boscoe's post op so he would heal well and have an excellent prognosis.  I'm thrilled I took him there and IMMENSELY grateful for Dr Stephan and the care he gave my boy.  Boscoe is healing according to schedule and starts rehab soon.  If anything ever happens to my partner or Gelsey, UVC is where they will go. When she was released I was again told that since I was just picking her up I wouldn't have much of a wait. It was faster this time, but it was still about 40 minutes before they came down the hall with her. I don't see why walking her out would take so long.

FYI it was just an ear infection! Could you imagine taking an infant into the doctor and having the same experience?! What a joke. Read Less

After reading some of the older reviews, maybe that's a good thing. Read Less

Read Less

Drea and Dr. Tucker made our puggle's cancer treatment as positive an experience as it could be. They were so sincerely invested in Lu's care and comfort. She was always excited to see them and was taken care of. Not only that, but Ginger and Kara at the front desk were always friendly and welcoming. Every visit was as pleasant as possible. I highly recommend this office.Read Less

Read Less

We brought our dachsie in after my husband hit her backing out of our driveway. They charge $85 just for an office visit. My vet is $35. They charged us $1500.00 dollars for  24 hours of oxygen and pain meds for a contusion on her lung. They are an emergency vet.

This is a sad tale. i saw a review for this place recently that said they only wanted your money. i can't seem to find the review anymore- weird. last wednesday i noticed my kitty had really gotten thin. he's usually about 23lbs and so puffy with fur so it took a while to notice, i guess. we took him to another vet that friday. they told us they had to take bloodwork and it wouldn't be in until monday- it was a hard weekend to wait out. the next day (saturday) my husband said we couldn't wait until the bloodwork acme back. he was so bad and couldn't walk. we took kitty in to the utah vet center. to sum this up quickly, dr. neal was so compassionate, knowledgeable, and good. he said even though we were waiting on bloodwork, we couldn't wait. they could do it and get it back in 30 min. he said the first vet should probably have known we couldn't wait until monday, but here we are. kitty had to stay in the hospital that night and probably for the next 3 nights to get him through the woods. we went to visit kitty on saturday night to make sure he was ok. the facility was so nice. clean, comfortable, respectful. we were allowed to hang with our little buddy and open his crate. we got a call at 4am sunday  9/24 that he'd passed away. it was obvious the staff was concerned and saddened. we all had hoped he would pull through. 11 years with my friend, but i'm so grateful his last hours were spent in a nice place. it is 24 hours and you get what you pay for. it's NOT cheap by any means...but family deserves the best and thank you, dr. neal for taking care of us the best you could.
