Our mastiff had his leg amputated by Dr. Wright because of an osteosarcoma. We were able to schedule the surgery less than a week after contacting her. Dr. Wright responded quickly and thoroughly to our questions and concerns over email, even over the weekend and at night. When we brought him in, Dr. Wright was happy to answer all of our questions, and assured us that before surgery she would re-do x-rays and bloodwork to be 100% sure that it was still the best option.
After surgery, he stayed overnight for two nights, and during that time the staff allowed us to visit him regularly, even in the middle of the night, and bring him food and ask many, many questions. It was clear that all of the staff really cared about him while he was there, and during one visit 6 different people came over to tell me how he'd been doing. Dr. Wright called us any time there was an update, and was very thorough and reassuring. Once he was able to stand and walk with the support of two people and a towel sling, the staff had us practice supporting him with a towel while he walked, and he was able to come home.
They told us he would need a bandage change in 24 hours, and that they would do it for a small fee without an appointment if we brought him into the hospital. We called the next day hoping to find someone to do a house-call since he's still pretty exhausted by moving, and learned that they do house-calls! Three of the care staff who had been working with him during his stay came to our house, re-did his bandages, checked the incision, and took blood to run a PCV. Since they'd been working with him before, they were able to recognize improvement in the weeping of his incision and the inflammation surrounding it. They gave us instructions for how and when to remove the bandage, and answered more questions. The house call cost only $80, even though it required three staff members and the drive itself is 15 minutes each way - we'd been expecting and willing to pay over $200, considering the quality and convenience of the service.
In the past, we've had multiple experiences bringing dogs to their emergency room, and were able to visit those dogs in recovery in the middle of the night as well, which was one of the reasons we decided to have the amputation done here. Our family always has 3-4 dogs, so we've had experience with many of the vets and animal hospitals in the Salt Lake, Murray, and Bountiful areas. This is one of our favorites and I would recommend Cottonwood Animal Hospital to anyone. Read Less
