Took my friends kitten in to have her eye looked at, last minute because our regular vet was booked up, the second the vet saw her eye she said "She's definitely going to lose that eye." Told me she had a very bad abscess and continued to tell me she would end up losing her eye. Instead of scheduling surgery they gave me an antibiotic and another check up appointment, called the regular vet got her an appointment there, where they told us she needed surgery RIGHT AWAY. She very well could've become septic and DIED. Will NEVER come here again. Read Less

THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL. i would give 0 stars if i could, i'm very unhappy with the service i received. my 6 week old kitten formed an abscess behind her eye, all she could say was how badly her eye would need to be removed, they gave me antibiotics and a follow up appointment, which to begin with sounded fishy, if it needed to come out so badly why not schedule a surgery? they said it was from a "cattail weed" a cattail is not a weed, and is far too big to get into a kittens eye, an abscess forms quickly within minutes sometimes which was the case with my kitten, they said it would have been from when she was in a field before we found her which is not possible, i decided that all of this information was incorrect and took her to a real vet, he told me that it needs to come out right away and did in fact schedule a surgery for tomorrow morning. its unprofessional to allow my baby kitten to go without the proper treatment she needs, just so you can milk me for money, lucky she didn't die overnight due to her eye exploding. They do not care about your pet. Do not be confused. We took our beloved dog into get neutered. They did fine on the surgery, but the main issue was that they cut our dogs nails. We cut our dogs nails the week before bringing him in, and while we appreciate the thought, they cut his nails to the point where he is bleeding on all 4 paws. The first foot they should’ve realized they needed to cut back some. The front desk was very polite and professional. But that doesn’t help my dogs nails. You wouldn’t cut your nails until they bleed, so don’t do it to my dogs. Read Less

I have taken my dog here several times. I have never liked that they tell you the visit will cost $46 and then always tack on something to get it up to about $100. They charge $20 to have any prescription filled there, so you have to pay for the prescription plus $20. (It took me a while and many questions to get them to break down the cost of the prescription into these two amounts.) The last time I went, they wanted to charge me $50 for a prescription of 30 Rimadyl which is an anti-inflammatory. I couldn't pay that much, so I took a lesser amount of 10 Rimadyl which was still $30--$1 per pill and then the $20 prescription charge. I went online to a pharmacy to get a better price for the remainder of the prescription (60 cents/pill). I gave the pharmacy Animal Medical Services' info to approve the prescription. Five days later, I get a call from Animal Medical Services saying that they aren't going to fill the prescription because according to their records my dog's vaccines are not current. They offered to give my dog her vaccines for $55. Well, my dog was current on her vaccines. They made me contact the place my dog had gotten her vaccines and have them fax the vaccination records to them before they would approve the prescription. I did this the same day. They then waited another two days before faxing in the prescription approval. This office represented to me that it was illegal and unethical to write a prescription for a dog if their vaccinations were not up to date. This is not true. They delayed my prescription 11 days-- all the while my dog was in so much pain she could barely walk.I conclude that this vet is more concerned about putting money in her pocket than helping your pet. I also feel that the office staff deliberately kept information from me, or gave me inaccurate information, even though my questions were very direct. They were reluctant to give me information or help me when there was no money going into their wallet. Read Less

Warning!!! Go somewhere else if you love your pet and want them well taken care of... After a lot of searching and price checking we decided to use these guys to get our dog spayed. When we called on the phone they quoted us 159 dollars for the surgery. We Also wanted few clause removed which we were quoted at 45 dollars per pair front or back, and tail docking which would be 119 for a total of (324.90). We were told mess would be between 15-30 dollars on top of that. When we arrived for our scheduled appointment, and after they took our dog, they showed us a breakdown of pricing that totaled almost $700. there excuse was that someone must have made a mistake when quoting and they don't allow employees to price of the phone. I laughed a little, because I could have sworn the woman telling me this was the same voice of whom I had talked to a day prior to get the quoting. We didn't have time to reschedule for somewhere else because we were heading out of time, so we went ahead to get it done. Note to add is that the clinic smelled horrible and was very dirty. Not my first choice but I trusted they would do a good job. After a few ours they called and left a message "didn't hear my phone ring" and they said that my 4 lb min pin didn't seem happy when they went to pull her out of her kennel, and wanted us to come pick her up and reschedule for another day. This was super inconvenient! I called back right away and the vet explained she would try to get her out and would use the box they migrate cats to to put them under with gas. Didn't hear back from the clinic till 4pm, my poor pup had been with these guys since 7 am and we were anxious to get her back. When we arrived to pick her up they had added $146 for meds, bringing the total way over what i was originally quoted. They also said that when they were getting my min pin out of her kennel and into the box to gas her that the assistant reached in and grabbed her foot to pull her out and had been bit. I have two 5 year olds at home that play with her all day and have never been bitten, and I was very confused as to why a seasoned vet, who knows the animal is in distress, would allow a tech to stick her bear hand into an upset animals cage. I paid my bill and left. When I got to the car I pulled my dog out and her tail was uncovered, blessing and had a horrible stitches job, even got blood on my shirt. I took her back in and had to wait 10 minutes for them to bring her back to put some gauze and rap on it, in which the entire time her tail was dripping blood on the floor. Finally got her done and home and felt relieved to be done with the situation. The next day we recieved a call from the Orem police dept. the officer explained that the vet had contacted him because my dog had bit her technitian. I was completely blown away by this. By law when a pet is in the care of the vet the animal is considered in there care and they are responsible for it. Therefore if the animal does bite etc. it is not the responsibility of the owner but that of the vetranarian. He told us that procedure is to take her "my pup that just went through major surgery" and impound her for 10 days. After a long descusion he said to just keep her in doors for ten days. Stay away from this clinic!!!!! They lie about pricing, they don't do good work, the clinic is dirty, and they are not trained professionals that know how to take care of your pet. Read Less

Horrible experience! I took my 8 week old puppy in today because I'm very nervous that he may have a UTI. The first girl that saw him looked extremely young and it was very clear that she did not know what she was doing. She took my puppy to the back to "expell the urine manually" and was gone for thirty minutes. Finally the person who I assume was the vet, (she did not introduce herself) came in and was extremely rude and told me that they could not get a sample large enough. She suggested I leave and they would call me in a few hours. I refused to stay and waited for 2 hours in the clinic before the young girl came out and handed me my dog and said they could not get any urine for the sample and that I should try to do it myself with a cup of plastic baggy. I was charged for the examination fee which was $46. When I asked if the dog was even examined she said yes by the vet. When I asked how the exam went the girl had no information for me and said she would email me the note of how it went. I will not go back and I don't recommend anyone else do it either. Read Less

I'm not usually one to leave reviews BUT when I have an experience THIS bad, I want to make sure others don't have to go through the same garbage. PLEASE do not ever take your pet to Animal Medical Services to see Dr. Carolyn Mcguire. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PET. They care about charging you as much as possible. I took my kitty in because he couldn't open his eye. She said she would put a stain in his eye to look at it under a black light to see if he had a scratch, but she never even used the black light, but of course they charged me for that test. She said it was an infection, gave me some drops and sent me on my way. She told me to come back in one week to have him checked. A week went by and although his eye looked a little better, I could still tell that there was something not quite right. It looked like he had something IN his eye. Not to mention he started having diarrhea with blood and mucus. I took him in again for his recheck and she said he looked great and that I could take the cone off and be done with the drops. I TOLD HER THAT IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS SOMETHING IN HIS EYE AND SHE SAID, AND I QUOTE "OH IT'S FINE". Not ONCE did she use a black light or even a flash light or ANYTHING to look into his little eye. She just looked into the carrier he was in. I asked about the bloody, mucus diarrhea and she said, it's probably his food, and gave me a food that is only sold in her office to try (go figure right?) I brought my kitty home and sure enough, the next morning he couldn't open his eye again. We called the office first thing, the nurse talked to the doctor and said that I should put the cone back on him and continue with the drops for another 10 days. I asked "is she not concerned that it looks like there's something in his eye?" and the nurse said "well if she looked at him yesterday..." and I said "she DIDN'T. I asked her to and she said 'oh it's fine' but i can SEE something in there" The nurse said I could bring my kitty back in, but that they'd charge me (of course, since that's all they care about). I immediately called another vet that was able to see my little guy that day. I took him in, and turns our he has an ulcer in his eye and a bacterial infection called giardia which was causing the bloody mucus diarrhea. I can not tell you how awful Dr. Carolyn Mcguire and her staff are. If my son or daughter had something in their eye and I took them to a doctor that said "oh it's fine" I'd be suing for malpractice. And not to mention all the "little" things about the office. The office STINKS SO BAD. You can tell it is not a clean place. The staff is just grumpy. I'm new to owning a cat so I had a lot of questions. They were all very short with me. Since I was a new patient for them I showed up to my appointment 10 min early. I ended up waiting about 50 minutes to be seen with not even an apology for having to wait that long. When I got there they said the price would be $45, but they did a bunch of tests that they didn't tell me about or get my approval for, so when I went to pay my total was over $200. Just, PLEASE take your pets somewhere else. This office is a joke and I honestly don't know how they are still in business. Read Less

I've been taking my dogs to Dr. McGuire for well over a decade. Prior to finding her, I searched high and low for a vet that seemed to actually care about my animals. On the first visit with Dr. McGuire, she got down on the floor and let my dogs check her out and lick her. She?s the only vet I?ve ever gone to who has done something like that. Over the years, she's been respectful, kind and caring towards me and my dogs. In what I?ve experienced at other vets, the cost seems to be comparable. Since she and her staff have treated my dogs like they were their own, if it does actually cost me more to see her, I'm willing to pay it. She's never jumped to the most expensive treatment - always being conservative in treatment when it was safe for the animal to do so. Her staff have been helpful for the most part; obviously some more than others. When I had to take one of my dogs to after hours emergency care, they notified Dr. McGuire?s office and a staff member called me the first business day to see how my dog was doing. Yes, there is often a wait to see her. However, she TAKES HER TIME examining the animal, asking questions about the issues they may be having and answering any questions or addressing any concerns I have. Doing this with EVERY PATIENT she sees sets her behind. I?ve never felt that me or my animals were just numbers and dollar signs to her. I will say that I do NOT like the other vet who works there so I make sure it's Dr. McGuire I'm seeing when I make an appointment. My dogs are family members to me and she respects that relationship. Any confusion or issues that have arisen have been handled in a professional manner. I recommend her to everyone because I trust her completely. Read Less

I am saddened to read the negative comments about Dr. McGuire and her practice. I have had completely the opposite experience in the more than seven years that she has cared for our Pomeranian. Unfortunately, our dog has had more than his share of serious health concerns. But it has given me great comfort to know that no matter when or what we were facing, Dr. McGuire would be there for us. As for false claims of being overpriced--you get what you pay for--but I also know that Dr. McGuire has cut our bills significantly at times. Not only is Dr. McGuire wonderful, but her staff are wonderful and caring as well. I don't know many practices where the staff know patients (animals and people) by first name. They honestly care about your animal and about you. When a friend of mine lost her beloved cat, the entire practice was compassionate and caring--it made a big difference to her. Don't listen to the sour grapes reviews on this site. Animal Medical Services is top notch. Read Less

Read Less

On 03/22/11 I took my little min-pincher in for a bad tooth.I had asked for a call back on what is happening and what needs to be done..Didn't get a call until afternoon telling me 2 teeth were removed.Half hour later I got a call stating 3 teeth were pulled..Told me she would be ready to pick up between 4pm or 5pm.I showed up early to talk to someone about what happened.I asked if they are hard up for money and they just pull teeth just because..When I got the bill I asked why so high in cost. They told me they had to pull 5 teeth..I was so in shock that I felt like I took a member of my family in to see the doctor and a total different operation was done on my family member that was NOT requested or told it was going to be done!!No antibiotics were given, but yet when I got home my brother told me if she has had gingivitis she should have been given antibiotics.I called back and she had to ask the doctor, which it was approved. Why?was it needed and forgotten to be given??Or did the doctor fill like Ok I have sucked enough money out of this customer,so why don't I just sell her something maybe her dog doesn't need..No follow up was done to see how my dog was doing..So I feel This doctor and this business doesn't care, and I have NOT STOPPED TELLING people and will make it a mission To tell other people who take their animals to a clinic, that THIS IS NOT A SAFE PLACE OR A LOVING PLACE FOR THEIR PETS...STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLINIC!!! Read Less
