I love this vet clinic. Dr. Ponce and her staff have given my 2 cats great care over the past few years. One of my cats was recently diagnosed with diabetes and they have been diligent about following up on how he is doing. They even offer to come and do home blood draws (he needs them approx. once a week while we figure out medication dosage) bc my cat gets very stressed going into the office. They are also very reasonable with billing. They recognize that our pets are very important to us, and will offer pricing adjustments when a lot of vet care is needed. Overall great medical care and great customer service - I highly recommend! If you are impatient, inflexible and lack an understanding that things with animals don't go as planned, this is not the place for you. This is my first time owning a cat. I adopted him from the humane society and Avenues Pet clinic was on their partner list for a free check up. -When I first took him in they told me he had a respiratory infection and that I needed to pay for medication. After two weeks he still had the infection and all they did was tell me his sneezing was from him adjusting to my home. Every time I brought him in they would clean the "wax" out of his ears and charge me for the cleaning. Often times making his ears more itchy and sometimes bloody. At my first appointment at my new vet I come to find out he has yeast and bacterial infections in his ears (Avenues did not check for those) and now he has permanent damage in his nasal cavity from the respiratory infection that they did not properly treat. I would never have taken my cat here if I knew that they would not treat him the way he should have been. On a side note, I found out he has a heart murmur on my first visit here and the vet basically told me if I didn't get him x-rays immediately he will have a heart attack and die. Horrible experience. I scheduled a 5pm checkup appointment for my cat. 5:20pm rolls around, and I am still waiting. I ask the receptionist how much longer, and he said there are still 3 other people in front of me...what?? He said there were a lot of emergency appointments today which I understand, but they should have called me to reschedule. I left, but if I had stayed I would have waited for a minimum of 45 minutes (maybe longer) to even get my cat into the exam room. I can't imagine how long the entire appointment would have taken. Not to be overly dramatic, but vet appointments are stressful for cats and waiting rooms often have barking dogs and other loud noises (this one certainly did). It is important to me for my vet office to take appointment times seriously. Would not recommend. Read Less

I was impressed-- my dog needed a teeth cleaning and a tooth pulled. They quoted me up front all the things I might possibly need. I expected the experience to be like many others I've had-- you need to add $200 on to the quote in your mind and be braced for that (there's always that ONE hidden or unexpected fee). DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO THIS LOCATION EVER!!! THEY LIE!!!! When taking my baby dog into them they had to put her down. They do not tell the truth on the timelines that you will get your dog back. They told us 15 days, Then 7 more days. Then we called to speak to they see why we do not have her back and they said that they would call us right back. Never heard back from them. Called again and spoke with the office manager and explained we were very upset and that we wanted our dog and money back due to not being told the truth. She said they would call us back right away. No call back. Then we called again and the doctor got on the phone and accused me of NOT TELLING THE TRUTH about what her staff had said to us. Then rather than take responsibility they wanted me to call their vendor to find out why our dog is taking so long. I demanded that get our dog back asap with a refund of money. I had to wait an hour after the appointment AGAIN just like every other time. The staffs are very nice and friendly and that's the only reason I've been coming to this place for a couple of years now. I own a very dramatic pooch and every time he seems to be in a state of emergency, this clinic always seems to take us right in. The front desk staff are courteous and the vet always seems to fix him right up. I've been going here for three years with two pets and I'm happy to continue going here. Sure, it's expensive but I've been to about 4 different clinics with both my pets and they don't seem like anymore of a pocket drain than other clinics. And in fact, their visit costs are lower than the others I called around about. Pets are just expensive. But, I love this clinic and they do a great job. Read Less

Great vet with the best prices I've ever seen! They are so affordable! The vet is amazing. They did the spaying for my puppy she healed in record time and they checked in daily. Not only are they great vets with great prices they truly care about you and you dogs/pets. I would highly recommend them. Only hard part is parking they have free parking in the back. I have been bringing my cat here for a long time for her shots. Last 3 times I have been in on my appointment I have had to wait about 45 min to an hour before I even get to go into the examination room. For a shot that takes one minute that is routine for her. Last time I was in they forgot about me in the exam room for about 20 min and I had to open the door and say hello?!? And I was late for work that day. Today when I showed after about 30 minute wait they were helping  several others that were walking in I counted 4 dog owners that showed up after me. Even tho the teller said that "sparky was in front of us" when we got there. So I am not trying to be impatient,  we get seated in the examination room finally after about an hour after our appointment time waiting for my cat to get the routine shot, and the assistant says that the dr wants to do an exam on my cat before giving her a shot. I tell the assistant that I have had her examined else were and she is in good health and it's not needed. Dr Ponce shows up and the male assistant held my cat so hard fisting his hands full of her upper back skin and neck that I heard her gagging a bit. It was WAY TOO hard, my cat has been acting hurt since. Then she tries to check her ear and my cat won't let her so I tell her I just cleaned her ears two days ago and they are spiffy so she skips it and doesn't preform the visual check. Then she tried to check her teeth and I opened her jaw because I didn't want the guy that was rough with her to do it. The whole thing took less then a minute. Even tho I told the assistant that I have had her checked and she is in good health. Then the doctor gave her the shot. After we went to pay for it they added an extra 50$ to the bill that usually 28$-30$. 50$ extra for me opening her jaw and for her taking my word and skipping her ear visual check.. Really disappointed, I feel like that you guys are only trying to make money off people. And don't listen to your customer nor you care about how to handle cats, I was there on time for a depo shot not an unscheduled exam that wasn't even done properly. I usually don't write bad reviews but this is kind of accumulated from last 3 visits and today was just right off the top, they should have discussed the price and why they need to check her teeth before giving her Asthma shot. We had a great experience. They took care of a seroma from surgery they didn't perform. We live on the avenues and didn't want to drive out to 90millionth south each day to have the surgeon take care of it. She had to see him every day for 10 days until it went away. I absolutely love this clinic and so does my cat! I've been going there for years now and not once have I ever had a bad experience. The Doctors and their assistants are so nice and caring! My cat had some issues with her anal glands and small intestines to a point she stopped eating because she couldn't go to the bathroom and I was so very stress out with the situation because my cat was in pain tand during the exam I just cried and one of the assistants hugged me and told me everything would be okay and they would take care of her. And They did do everything to help my cat from medication to natural remedies and sure enough my cat bounced back within a few weeks and has been healthy ever since! They are always really gentle with my fur baby and always so nice and when I have a concern they address it and make sure I am 100% comfortable before moving on. Even though I moved 20 minutes away from downtown I will continue to take my cat to Avenues Pet clinic. I don't think I will find a better environment for my cat and myself! Our Fox terrier was injured seriously after a tete-a-tete with a neighborhood feline. He didnt show any external signs of injury but was in extreme pain. I took him pretty much immediately to our regular vet (Aves pet clinic). She looked at him and couldn't find any thing wrong and referred me to a emergency clinic if the pain persisted. I asked her to prescribe some thing for the pain for what seemed to me like a fracture as my dog was in extreme pain but she seemed to think ice was enough. She seemed extremely non committal to what I should do next. She referred me to another pet emergency center (why did I just waste my time taking our Dog here?). Needless to say we spent a sleepless night in extreme pain thanks to some negligent care by Dr . Ponce (yes, she charged me for that MIS(diagnosis). I researched orthopedic vets and decided to take our dog to Cottonwood animal hospital the next morning. Upon examination and X-rays the vet determined that it was a C-1( atlas) fracture. We could have lost our pet or had some long term neurological deficits had our dogs broken vertebra suffered any kind of displacement. Dr. Ponce also didnt show the medical curiosity to find out what had happened to our dog and how he was fairing. Seems like this is not the place that would like to deal with real medical issues, they seem more like the kind of place that thrive on selling vaccinations and heartworm medications. Awful! No help at all!! On top of that I specified the only service we need is a well visit check up. $45 they told me. I worked a 16 hour shift so I had my husband take our dog in and they manipulated him into somehow racking up a $165 BILL! A vet tech came in and said "Okay we'll be giving your dog shots" without explaining what they were, what they costed or even attempting to work with us when I got the receipt back. I have taken my 2 cats and 1 dog here for the last 6 years. My oldest cat, who was 19, just recently had to be put to sleep. We took her in prior to this, and Dr. Ponce along with her staff were so sweet and sensitive to what a hard thing this was to have to do. They even offer a service to come to your home and do it, which we opted to do. However, my history with this place is even more amazing, the same kitty (19 years old) a few years ago developed an allergy to litter!!! She chewed her paws open, and sores on her face, it was awful. Dr. Ponce and her staff took extra good care of her, my poor kitty ended up in the cone of shame for nearly a year while we got all of her allergies under control. During this time, we were in the office once a week with her, and the staff was always sweet. Not to mention, Dr. Ponce never charged us for those visits, just for the medications we needed to refill during some of these follow ups. They truly care about your pets. One last experience, a friend of mine had a dog that had eaten something and was non-stop vomiting and we were nervous. I told her to call Avenues Pet Clinic, this was at almost 6pm on a weekday. They agreed to stay open to see my friend's dog! Turns out the dog was totally fine, but it was a good thing they brought him in because Dr. Ponce and her staff were able to give him a anti-nausea medication to keep him from continuing to vomit and become dehydrated. I truly can't say enough for this clinic. It is true that sometimes you have longer than normal wait times, but if you bother to ask, 99.9% of the time it is because they have had an emergency come in. If that bothers you, you can always ask to reschedule, but for me personally, it brings me comfort that they will take these emergencies in and treat them as a true priority. I hope to not be in those shoes, and in a perfect world, no one would ever have to be in those shoes, but it's nice to know that if I was, I can trust this vet to make me a priority. Update: We received the sweetest condolences card from everyone in the office after we had to put our 19 year old kitty to sleep. This vet clinic is a joke. I took my dog here for his free humane society physical. First off I waited in the lobby for an hour before being called back. Second the vet only examined my dog for about 15 seconds before pushing heart worm medications on me. It seems like they push this on everyone. Unfortunately I was foolish enough to bring him back here for his vaccinations. I waited for an hour in the lobby and was finally called back. They administered his shots and listened to his heart. Dr Ponce then unexpectedly told me that my dog has a heart murmur. They then quickly rushed me out of the room without even telling me the severity of the murmur. Wouldn't you think that she would advise me on how to test or monitor the condition? Nope.. I was instead quickly rushed out of the room since they are always so far behind schedule. It baffles my mind that she totally missed this during his first exam. After reading the other reviews I'm wondering if this was a false diagnosis. Don't bring your pet here! THIS IS THE FIRST AND LAST !!!!!!! Growing up my mom always brought our cats in to the Avenues Pet Clinic and still does . As i can recall her last bill was 1,200 to have her 2 cats teeth pulled . This was my first time in as a new client.   My dog was having some problems in her private area and so I decided to call and see if I could get an appointment in for the next day I told the receptionist/ vet tech about her problem and she wanted me to get my dog in first thing in the morning 9am . I dropped my dog off a little before 9am . 11:45 rolls around and I go in expecting to wait a little and was told that the vet was doing a surgery and my dog has not been seen yet. I was very understanding. Then 2:45 rolls around and they are just barely getting to my dog . They told me that I could pick her up at 4:45 pm. I arrive right at 4:45pm and walked up to the receptionist which was a guy at this time and I said " hi" and before I could say who I was there for he interrupted me and said " Can you hold for a second" um excuse me ? I then sit there for 10 minutes and then finally got taken back to the examining room. I then wait there for another 30 minutes until the Vet comes in . She tells me that the took a scope and such and did tests and that my dog just had an infection that is curable with antibiotics . She did not even have the antibiotics ready I then had to wait 10 or more minutes and then she never comes back in to explain the rest of what she was saying. A really nice Vet tech finally brings the antibiotics and my dog to me . At first this was suppose to be a $40 check up with the possibility of tests ( which they are suppose to call and tell me about because it cost extra but they never did ) . I know that the test is necessary in order to figure out what was going on but every other vet ive been to they call me first and tell me that it is gonna be extra and how much. So thats another $45.00 along with the antibiotics which cost $39.82. But the thing that pisses me off the most is that I was charged a $35.00 full day hospital stay, which is what I did not want. I am the one who kept calling. They did not help my dog until 5 hours from when I dropped her off and yet I get charged for a stay when they should have called and told me that they are not able to see her right away and if I wanted to come get her so she wasn't sitting in a cage for 5 unnecessary hours. I was never told about a stay fee but I guess they like to trick their customers which is why they waited till the end of the day to see my dog. This visit costed $127.57 !!! Keep in mind that this was my first new client visit and this is how bad the experience was . I really wanted to give this place a chance but they LACK CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION . Definitely going back to Banfield pet hospital . They stress having good communication, customer service, and their prices are reasonable . I won't ever return here . Read Less

Dr. Ponce will communicate any procedures needed and provides alternatives if applicable. She will also personally follow up to make sure everything is copesetic with you and your pet. Seriously....the majority of the complants from the cat owners are due to a lack of accountability for their own pet. You should know what your pet needs and when it needs it. Did it ever occur to you guys that the clinic may be busy when you enter and the world does not revolve around your idea of customer service? You probably dropped in without an appointment. I think the people at the clinic are great! In fact, I have moved from the Avenues and still drive there because I like this clinic so much. Every time I'm in there they offer to trim nails for free and stuff my dog full of treats to make sure that she is comfortable while being checked out. Maybe the cat owners should look into just how approachable they are themselves. After reading the good reviews I decided to take my cat in due to the fact that she's recently become sick. Unfortunately, I hardly saw the vet and nobody seemed to have any concern about my cat. I felt like they just took my money and rushed me out of there as soon as possible. Now, three visits later, 300 dollars spent, and my cat is still sick. They've come up with no real reason as to what's wrong, and instead just keep getting me to buy food and medication that isn't working. I'm definitely taking my business to another veterinarian. Dr. Ponce is excellent! My cat can be considered a rather unsocial animal with all the hissing, growling and swiping with claws she does, but Dr. Ponce is always patient and kind to my evil little kitty. Plus, she is good at reassuring me that some cats just hate everyone but their owner and that really I am a good kitty mom.
