I have had nothing but issues since going here. I purchased their pet wellness package while getting a bunch of diagnostic tests for my dog because it was cheaper than paying for them separate without the package. First, the vet didn't fill out the prescription properly so I couldn't get it filled. When I called, they claimed my dog had never been seen at their facility. It took almost a week to get the issue corrected because they used a vet from a different location and I ended up having to drive to Taylorsville to get a new prescription. Then I brought my other dog in and they tacked on additional costs for the appointment without notifying me and were extremely rude when I asked what the extra costs were for so I knew what I was paying for. They said I knew about them when I dropped my dog off and signed the form (no form was given) eventually the fee was waived because I was never given said form as they claimed. I also told them that I just needed this dog checked for nasal issues and vomiting and when they called they said they had no idea I needed him seen for that and had just done a basic exam. They sent him home as fine but he has continued with the issues and has progressed to vomiting constantly. I would not recommend them and will be taking my dogs elsewhere Read Less

Took our elderly cat there because she was throwing up, was breathing rapidly, and had a mass on her side. They had no appointments so I had to do drop off service which I never talked to the doctor to address my concerns. After HOURS of waiting for someone to call me back, I called them back twice all to be told that they were not sure and sent me home with medication that my cat didn’t take. Upon calling them the next day to inform them about it they said to still continue to give it to her. I just took her back today for the same thing plus she stopped eating again with a drop off appointment and again not seeing the doctor. I was called back an hour later and said she had air in her stomach and needed to take her to the emergency clinic. When I took her to the emergency vet it wasn’t air but CANCER!! They misdiagnosed her and now she has 2-6 months of life left. They didn’t even do the X-Rays right and the emergency vet had to redo them. Never again will I take my pets here. Read Less

Then told me to call if she hadn't improved in next two days. Our kitten died later that night, she still wasn't able to drink or eat. Vet seemed like she didn't have time to give her the attention she needed and it was too much of a hassle to figure out the real reason she was sick. $200 worth of service that didn't give us any real answers and didn't help our kitten in any way. Banfield has a fairly unique business model with their Wellness Plans where you can pre-purchase a year's worth of routine services with the option of dental cleanings. Cost wise, it is reasonably priced and helps you budget for pet care needs.
When Dr. Hawkins was at Banfield I thought they provided great service and care. He has since moved to another location and I no longer patronize them due to the turnover of veterinarians. The new veterinarians were all just starting their careers and only staid around 6 months to a year. This type of turnover of key people makes it hard to continue a long term customer relationship.
If they could hire and retain quality veterinarians, I think the overall experiences people have would improve. They are a large, nation wide corporation and I think management's focus may be more about money metrics. (Same as most large corporations.) Read Less

When I moved to Utah I needed to find a go to place for my kittens and being attached to Petsmart Banfield was the easy choice. We have our furry friends on wellness plans which helps cover a lot of preventive care and lowers the cost of medicine and treatments as needed.The staff is wonderful. They are genuine and patient. I feel comfortable bringing my pets here and they seem to be pretty at ease as well. The reason for 4 starts instead of 5:Rather than assist with finding a location you can be seen in right away you are expected to call all locations separately. In an urgent situation this is not ideal. Â A note on urgent situations* they are not an er, and will likely recommend you go to an er if you are in an urgent situation. When our crazy puppy decided to eat a bunch of stuff that was not food, they told us they could not get her in, could not find a location that could, and suggested the er, which is insanely expensive. She was on the phone most of the time and when I needed to talk it her it took 5 minutes for her to even awknowledge my existence. My puppy turns 6 months next week and they wouldn't let me upgrade to the adult package because his X-rays were included in that particular package and they wanted the money out of my wallet. There's a difference between customer service and being rude. When we tried to call back and ask why the cost was so much she got an attitude on the phone.

Banfield Pet Hospital not only has horrible customer service skills, but they overcharge, pressure you into wellness plans, and then refuse to help once you have entered the plan. This vet only worries about "their numbers" not the care of your pet. I took my dog because she has two loose teeth and they pressures me into a "wellness plan" by making me feel like a neglectful per owner. When I left the office I asked them how much just the visit would be that day if I did not sign up for the plan, the employee told me it would just be the office visit amount, around $40 or $50. Again I signed up for the wellness plan after pressure from the Vet and Vet technician who examined my dog. A week later I called to see my options to cancel the plan after finding a vet who would perform the procedure for much cheaper and learning from several vet techs and vets that the plan included many unnecessary and potentially harmful side affects. One of Banfields great scams is giving you the run around and hoping you will give up. After calling Banfield to cancel the plan they directed me to an 800 number that is conveniently never open. After hours of phone calls and holding the 800 number called me back. The 800 number then told me in order to cancel my plan it would be $200.0 on top of the $80 I already paid the day of my dogs visit (40 for the office visit and 40 for the 1st month of the plan). When I asked them why they told me from serviced rendered at that visit I explained to them several times that the vets office clearly stated my visit was only $40.00 so why where they now trying to charge me almost $300.00 for a visit where all they did was examine my dog ? The agent at this 800 number could only repeat the script in front of him no matter how many times and ways I asked my questions. Clearly they only have someone there reading from a computer screen. After this frustrating conversation I finally requested the agents supervisor and was sent to a voice mail. I have gone back and forth with the actual office and the 800 number for days now and nobody can explain the ridiculous amount they are trying to charge. Each one just tells me to call the other and a supervisor/manger just never calls back. I am now stuck in a year long plan at a Vet hospital who overcharges and pressures pet owners , through guilt, into unnecessary purchases/procedures. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!Read Less

I am very disappointed with my wellness plan. I have had it for 5 years, but the past year or so I can never get my dog in for at least 4-7 days, even if she is sick. I even call the Salt Lake and the West Valley Banfield Hospitals looking for appts. My dog is elderly, has arthritis, and cannot wait that long. I do not like to leave her for the day at the vet because she is such a nervous little dog especially when she does not feel well, and because I like to be there when the dr. examines her. I downgraded my plan for this reason but every time I go in, the drs try to get me to upgrade or to charge me 160.00 for x-rays, extra bloodwork, and charge a fortune for extra medications. I do really like Dr. Sawala at the Taylorsville Banfield. She is thorough but not pushy. The last time I went to the Salt Lake Banfield they were nice but would not give me the Rimadyl that usually works best for her back. They just wanted to run x-rays and give her steroids and muscle relaxers and pain meds. I had waited 5 days anyway before they could get her in, so I just bought her some aspirin from Petsmart and gave her that. It seemed to work somewhat well, but I hate to self medicate her. Each one just tells me to call the other and a supervisor/manger just never calls back. I have been going to Banfield, particularly this location for the last four and a half years and in the last year things have completely changed. They are messing up appointments, the vets are not taking the time to get to know the pets nor do they care to return phone calls. I will continue to be with Banfield since I am moving out of state and my family (who I recommended join banfield's care plans) highly recommend their vets.Read Less

I am very disappointed with my wellness plan. I have had it for 5 years, but the past year or so I can never get my dog in for at least 4-7 days, even if she is sick. I even call the Salt Lake and the West Valley Banfield Hospitals looking for appts. My dog is elderly, has arthritis, and cannot wait that long. I do not like to leave her for the day at the vet because she is such a nervous little dog especially when she does not feel well, and because I like to be there when the dr. examines her. I downgraded my plan for this reason but every time I go in, the drs try to get me to upgrade or to charge me 160.00 for x-rays, extra bloodwork, and charge a fortune for extra medications. I do really like Dr. Sawala at the Taylorsville Banfield. She is thorough but not pushy. The last time I went to the Salt Lake Banfield they were nice but would not give me the Rimadyl that usually works best for her back. They just wanted to run x-rays and give her steroids and muscle relaxers and pain meds. I had waited 5 days anyway before they could get her in, so I just bought her some aspirin from Petsmart and gave her that. It seemed to work somewhat well, but I hate to self medicate her. They were nice at the Salt Lake Banfield but not very helpful. Read Less
