The worst experience I've ever had was when I went to say goodbye to my cat at Hunter Animal Hospital. There is one doctor there that I would never go near again, and that's Dr. Mike.He has to be the most insensitive, uncaring and uncompassionate veterinarian that I've ever met in my entire life. The nurse, who didn't provide her name was also extremely rude when I had a few questions about how the procedure/process worked.I asked about how euthanasia works since I'd never done this before. I asked if they put him to sleep first, and then give him the injection to stop his heart. The nurse said no, but they could sedate him which would help him fall asleep. When I asked her "okay, so that will make him fall asleep?" She replied with "NO, it won't make him fall asleep. We DON'T put him to sleep first." Followed by a really irritated look on her face.Then, they asked me if I wanted the doctor to come in right away after putting the catheter in my kitty. I said yes.He told me what the injection would do, and without hesitation, words or regard for my situation, gave the injection, and walked out. He didn't check to see if there was a heartbeat, didn't ask if I was ready before he did it, and then as he was walking out I was YELLING at him to come back (because my cat was having agonal breathing and myoclonus, which since this was my first time experiencing a situation like this, freaked me out and I had NO idea that would happen), and he just kept walking away.He FINALLY turned around, dismissed my concern as if I should have known that would happen, handed my dead cat back to me, and walked out.I was not prepared for what was going to happen, and no one really cared that this was a sensitive moment for me. I was beyond livid and extremely distraught from how my last moments went with my best friend.I will share this as far and wide as I possibly can to ensure no one makes the same mistakes that I did by taking my pet to Hunter Animal Hospital. My dog got sick and we had to put him down Dr. Mike & Mary and the rest of the staff were all helpful and empathetic. I would give Hunter Animal Hospital 10 stars if I could. We LOVE the vets, the techs, the front desk people, everyone! My poodle mix was diagnosed with Addison's disease here about 4 years ago, which means we come every month for a shot for him, plus the occasional shots or sicknesses for our other dog. For years, my dogs were taken to this place and we loved it.... and then my german shepherd got sick and they misdiagnosed the problem, actually telling us everything was fine. He had gotten ahold of a rat from the field behind our house and after that, stopped eating and even walking. How can you tell me that he was "fine"? They disregarded the rat story as if it was nothing. Now, that was a few years ago. I understand that mistakes happen. I'm leaving this now because after speaking with some friends, we all realized that we all had pets that needed to be put down before their time due to being misdiagnosed... from Hunter Animal Hospital. This place used to be really amazing, but has really gone downhill! My family and I have had 7 dogs that we have taken to this place for years and years. As time went on, they seem to care less and less about the animals. This past two weeks my parents had an emergency come up with both of their dogs, a mini dachshund and a chihuahua and refused to see them both times. This was on two different occasions, when they had hours before closing and multiple vets that work there. They could hear the dog screaming in the background and still turned us away. This is not a good place to go to if you can't at least rely on an emergency situation, go somewhere where they care more! Read Less

Although they charge a little more than most I know my pet is getting the best care possible. The staff are all really friendly and show they want to be at work which I think contributes to the level of care they provide for the pets they provide service for. This is a great veterinary hospital! We've been taking our dogs here for years. They have friendly staff and good doctors. The exam rooms are well kept, as is the waiting room. We have seen several of the doctors here, but we prefer Dr. Paul Mardis. He knows our dogs well and is very caring and friendly with them. A unique feature of this particular veterinary hospital is the separate entrances/waiting rooms for dogs and cats. I think it is genius. The parking is free and usually sufficient. It can be a little tricky to maneuver large trucks in winter months if there is a lot of snow build up along the outside of the parking lot. However, this can be said of most places with smaller parking lots during winter months. All in all, this is great veterinary hospital! Read Less

I am amazed to read the other reviews here. We have taken our cat to Hunter Animal Hospital for years. She has always received excellent care. Even the techs handle her expertly. Last week we took Cat in with a strange growth. It was a rare mycobacterial infection that few vets would have even recognized. Fortunately, Dr. Adams had had a special interest in mycobacteria as a student and could identify it. My sister takes her dog to Hunter Animal regularly. She also has nothing but praise for vets and the care her dog receives. It's as if we and the other reviewers went to entirely different facilities. I have no vested interest in this animal clinic. We used to take Cat elsewhere, but one visit here persuaded us to switch. I know how loved and important companion animals are to us and regret that others have had such a negative experience. Had my dog in for a surgical procedure to spay and her Rabies vaccination the cost 333.46. When I got home I realized they did not give me Rabies tag. When inquiring about getting her tag the reply was I don't know where it is I am not the one who helped you and won't be able to get a tag. On the follow-up visit they preformed a dry eye test without asking or even telling me she was going to. This cost an additional 45.45. When I asked her why so much she replied they tested for dry eye. I said....they really need to do a test of dry eye that is expensive she replied let's are expensive. I just don't know where to start. Rude to the animals. I asked a question once and the lady literally yelled at me that to answer it requires an additional 45 dollars and an exam. I am absolutely blown away. I called in to refill my EPILEPTIC dogs prescription today. I'm off at 5 PM and they have listed online that they don't close until SIX. The receptionist then tells me over the phone that I need to be there by 5:15 PM to pick up her meds because they are closing early because their appointments are done. I proceed to ask "well then why would you list that you're open until 6? My dog will have a seizure without her meds." This woman then tells me I need to call 24 hours in advance to fill a prescription, when I've always just walked in to get it with no phone call at all in the past and had no issues, besides the last time I got it filled when the woman said it is easier for them if I call it in a little ahead of time. But NEVER have I been told 24 hours. THEN the woman tells me "well it's your fault if she has a seizure because if you know your meds are running out you should have them refilled." I am under the impression that if a business says they are open until a certain time, THEY STAY OPEN UNTIL THAT TIME. This woman works for an ANIMAL HOSPITAL. Her concern should be with the WELL BEING of animals, not with getting off 45 minutes early.I am blown away and absolutely irate at the fact that this woman is responsible for the care of these animals. I just took my dog sweetie in because she had a foxtail in her foot. I had a screaming baby, a wild 2 year old boy, and a hurt dog. The staff were so KIND! They helped me out with my older son and dog and were super patient with all the madness I had going on. They took care of my dog super quickly and efficiently. Their prices are AMAZING and the vet was super straightforward and knew her stuff. I will never take them anywhere else. The office was super clean as well, which was a major plus! Do yourself and your dog a favor and bring them here. You won't be disappointed! It takes a lot to impress me enough to sign up for a Google account just so I could leave a review for this place. My dog is already walking on her foot and is back to her happy self and it's only been a couple hours. I am already going back to get her yearly shots. We've had issues with my cat, and they've been so compassionate and caring of him. Helping get his treatment figured out and letting us know what we can do. Yesterday I took my dog in while he was having seizures, they were more concerned with getting him taken care of, they did the check in procedure after we were already with the vet. And then everyone was so sweet and compassionate when it came time to put him down. I really don't think I would have gone anywhere else. They let me have all the time I needed to say good bye and was even there to comfort me after he was gone. Dr. Mike has taken care of four of my dogs throughout their lives. He has always been there for them. When we first started going to this vet, he told us how many things our old vet was recommending we do that were unnecessary more than maybe twice in their lifetime. When my large dog kept breaking his splint while we were waiting on a heavy duty splint to come in, they said I could come in anytime and get it replaced for free. My dog actually gets excited walking into the vet because of how well they treat him. And they know me and my pups by name. They truly care about each and every one of them. Tried pulling blood and dropped the slides immediately jumped to conclusions on what was wrong with our dog, then tried to refer us over to another vet to get treatment done. My first visit was great. My second visit wasn't. My first visit I was told my dog needed to rest his back for 2 weeks and was given 2 weeks worth of medications that I was told were inexpensive. After 2 weeks were up, my dog still seemed to be in pain. I took him back. Lauren Adams saw my dog. She chided me for not knowing it would take much longer for his back to heal "Doesn't your back take a long time to heal when YOU hurt yours?" she stated. Because apparently I'm a total moron. She refilled his prescriptions and recommended a new one. Even though he was doing ok on the original 2 and apparently just needed more time to heal. When i went to check out I was told the new medication was $67.50 and it was gabapentin. I went back after a week to let them know how unhappy I was I was never told how much or which medication I was being given until I checked out. Lauren was too busy to see me and sent another vet out who did nothing to address my concerns. Just went on about how my dog needed the medication. That's fine he needs it. But don't ambush me at the check out. Poor customer service on their part. Didn't offer an apology, explanation or a correction for future service. Read Less

We drive past 5 other veterinary offices on our way to this place - because it so worth the drive!  They have treated our current dog and the one we had before.  When our Dog got bone cancer, they diagnosed it, offered a variety of treatment options. They were professional, honest and exceptionally compassionate.  When we eventually had to put him down, we were devastated, but couldn't have hoped for a better experience.  Now we take our puppy to them.  I love knowing she is in such good hands. The staff and doctors are so helpful and friendly! They know my dogs by name and they love to dole out the treats and make both of my dogs comfortable whenever we take them in. Hunter Animal Hospital is amazing. The staff are extremely courteous and friendly, and doctor's are amazing. They have treated my two pups for a variety of ailments, from pulled out claws to seizures. Even in the most difficult of times for me, they are open an honest, and accepting of the difficult decisions that I have to make. They have never judged me for what condition my animals come in with, and are more than willing to help if a pup has an accident in the lobby, or is just too lazy to stand. Even after I moved miles away, and was much closer to another vet, I continue to take my pups there. I don't trust anyone else. The doctors here truly care about your pets. My furbabies and I have been going here for 2 years now and love it. Dr Rog showed love and care for my 4 year old pug who has allergies and slipped a disk today. They worked us in when they could and Dr Rog was kind and made me feel safe and trusting. I'm fairly new to pet parenting. When I was in market for "vet shopping" about a year ago, it was important to me that the vet's office looked clean, smelled clean, and was in good repair. Hunter Animal Hospital is all that and more! I had to go to three vets before settling on (and being much more than satisfied with) Hunter Animal Hospital. As a cat owner, I appreciate how Hunter accommodates dogs' and cats' differences right down to the entrances to the facility (separate entrances for cats and dogs!). If you look on their website, it's easy to tell that some doctors are more suited for cats than dog and vice versa. I felt like seeing vets before was more like seeing someone who really takes care of dogs and "kinda" helps cats on the side. The main vet here is awful!! Callous old man who is tired of life and seems to hate animals. Manhandled my very old, sweet dog who always sits patiently on the vet table. My dog has chronic ear infections because of a recently ruptured vessel in his ear. I came in to get the ear treated and also to schedule canal ablation (it permanently cures the constant ear infections). The vet then blamed me for the ear infections and refused to do the surgery. When my dog got really sick and lost his motor skills I called my regular vet and they told me to take my dog to a animal hospital downtown at 5:00 p.m. Because it was an emergency and hunter animal was five minutes from my house I took him there. They were closing down but the vet agreed to see my dog.  They ran multiple labs and two doctors and techs looked at him.Unfortunately there was nothing they could do for him and I had to put him down, but I was very impressed with the fact that they tried everything they could think of and never rushed just because they were closing.  They were also very compassionate after we put him down.  I will be switching to hunter for my new puppy and dropping my old vet.  I highly recommend them!! I will only ever take my animals here. Don't let being in West Valley scare you! The building is about as updated as you can get, its very nice. For anyone who just wants the minimum, here are the stats:Price: BEST I could find after calling all over the place.Care: Top notch.Cleanliness: Looked and smelled clean.Staff: Professional, friendly, helpful. Pretty much a miracle in itself.Hours: Was able to drop dog off before work and pick up after.I simply cannot find anything negative to report.I would not give a pet hospital five stars if they didn't deserve it. Let me tell you a story about a little 9 lb dog who looks like a cross between Dumbo and Chewbacca. And acts like it too.Found "Chew" in the street in downtown SLC, running around in the road when he wasn't mesmerized by the opening and closing glass doors of my office building. I grabbed him but was immediately accosted by our security dude before I could do much asking around. Took my lunch break to run him to my house really quick.I tried contacting some rescues around town, but clearly I don't know any of the good ones because they either were very hesitant about taking the dog or they just never called/emailed me back.  They probably thought I was trying to get rid of my own dog. Who knows. Humane Society was out, since I know how they roll when it comes to strays.  At home, we gave Chew a badly needed bath and noticed that his little dew claws had grown into the pads of his poor little paws! We had to perform an emergency surgery to extract the claws. I decided that if I were a rescue, I'd appreciate not having to get the dog shots and neutered if somebody wanted to hand him over to me. So the next day after posting "found" ads in the usual places, I started calling around to pet hospitals for quotes.  I wasn't feeling very friendly towards the owners of Chew, so I decided if they wanted him back they would have to pay for the necessary incidentals that responsible dog owners pay.Wow. Even Chew's bad owners don't deserve the prices around here for a simple snip and sew.  One place even quoted close to $600 for a neuter, shots, bloodwork and microchip. WTF???   I was disappointed. Humane Society's rates were good, but they had a waiting list several months long.  No way was I going to wait until January when it was only November!Luckily, a colleague told me to call Hunter. Even though I live in the Sug, I was still willing to drive clear out west for such great prices. Less than $400 out the door for everything with doggie pain pills for the next few days included!  If I hadn't already been told that everyone there is great and the place is kept immaculately clean, I would have been worried.They took wonderful care of Chew, and they even took a few minutes to cut some of the mats and knots out of his little coat while he was asleep. That really helped me since I am terrible at cutting hair and the groomers who occupy the building next to Hunter were all booked up that day.  I have a long history with animal hospitals, because my pets really are my babies.  Never, have I encountered staff who do something for the pet just to be nice. They did. They are all friendly, helpful and professional.  After Chew's surgery, I received a phone call letting me know that the procedure went smoothly and Chew was resting though being monitored. The next day, I received a call to inquire about Chew's recovery.  Everything was fine. Chew's old owners are dead to us. Those disgusting creatures did what most scumbags who get pets they don't intend to take care of do: they just let him out to run the streets when he was no longer a tiny little puppy.  I don't know if Chew should have been reunited with them, even if they had bothered to look for him.  It's time for Chew to get his second round of shots. I recently took my dog here and the experience was very disappointing. The price is reasonable, that's what originally drew me here, but I will never again sacrifice the experience my dog and I have for a few dollars...The cut was much shorter than what I asked for, one nail was cut so short that the quick was cut and he was left bleeding (have never had this happen at a previous groomer and if my groomer hadn't gone out of business I would still have been there) That was horrible to see, my baby bleeding, but perhaps the most upsetting thing to me was that when I went to pick him up the woman had her back turned to me with headphones on, so did not hear that I had entered and when my dog started to whine for me she yelled at him, "Shut up!" This was such a horribly disappointing experience and I was left feeling guilty all day long for taking my dog here.
