We've got a senior dog, a middle-aged dog and a 6-month old kitten, and we've now seen all five vets here. All the vets have been great about answering our questions, addressing our concerns, and giving us a range of options for our pets - especially our senior dog with arthritis, who hasn't had great luck with NSAIDS.Our kitten had some complications with her spay, and then we poked her in the eye trying to give her antibiotic pills, so we ended up coming in here 5 times in 2 weeks just for her. She's all good now, but the vet and front desk were awesome - everyone always had great attitudes, and the vets were super helpful. They were also complete dears about bribing our kitten with tasty treats so she wouldn't get too traumatized about vet visits. This is the kind of place you hope not to visit too often, but you feel comfortable knowing they'll do what they can to make sure your pets are healthy and happy when you do. West Mountain Animal Hospital was the on-call emergency vet service over the weekend.  I called for advice on what to do with my dog and was told by Dr. Morris that she was only one person and couldn't handle another emergency and said I that the symptoms my dog was having sounded relatively normal and observe him tonight or if it was really bad i could take him to the emergency clinic in Latham or Rutland.  I decided to observe him over night and was going to take him to our normal vet on Monday.  Around 2:30am Monday morning my dog took a turn for the worse and in tears...I called the emergency number again.  Dr. Morris returned my call and pretty much scolded me over the phone.  She said in a snarky tone that if I had thought my dog was this bad off why didn't I take him to Latham or Rutland earlier.  I was completely taken back by her comment and the tone in her voice.  She continued by saying that she is only 1 person and can only take care of some many animals...and that she worked till 10:30pm Sunday and had to be up and at work for 7am ish to do surgeries on other peoples pets...and how could i expect her to do that.  I quickly and harshly reprimanded her.  How dare she talk to me like I don't care about my dog and that if she couldn't handle being an on-call vet then she should get a different job....and I hung up on her.  My mother ended up calling her back and telling her what was what...and she ended up meeting up at the Vets office...only to pronounce my dog dead.  She turned to me and said she was sorry for my loss.  I told her her to save it...and not waste my time.  I told her that she was extremely rude to me on the phone talking to me like I didn't love and care about my dog.  I also told her that I was sorry that she worked alot and whatever but if she couldn't be the emergency on-call vet that she should get a different job.  I also told her that I'm on-call at my job every Saturday and when that happens...I'm responsible for roughly 56 traumatized girls.  There was absolutely NO EXCUSE for the way she spoke to me.  NONE.  It's almost a wonder if she treats everyone like that or if it just those who aren't her actual patients.  I can't believe that someone working in a field where you deal with hurting animals and their owners could be so cold and heartless.  I will NEVER EVER advise anyone to use West Mountain Animal Hospital.  If you have an issue and need to call the emergency vet and it happens to be West Mountain who is on-call....skip it. I have been going to West Mountain Animal Hospital for the past thirteen years, and I would never want to bring my pets anywhere else. Every doctor, tech and front desk personnel are beyond loving, compassionate and amazing. I moved to NC two years ago and still continue to drive back to West Mountain every year for my dog's wellness visit. I love all of the doctor's, but I have a special place in my heart for Dr. Suzy Pence most of all....she saved the life of my rescue boy and I will forever be grateful....Thank you West Mountain Animal Hospital! You are all truly the best of the best!!! Read Less

As a client of West Mountain Animal Hospital for the past 20 years, I can, and always do, highly recommend their Veterinary services. The facility is very clean, thoughtfully designed, bright and soothing. The staff is always compassionate, friendly, and well versed in the details of the services they provide, as well as the nuances of animal care. They are more than just a local business, they are deeply rooted in community life through ongoing outreach and fund raising events such as Breast Cancer Research and Special Olympics. In addition to being pillars of the community, I have found that the support staff, technicians, and veterinarians go above and beyond the average level of care offered by other offices. I truly believe this superior level of care can be directly attributed to their high level of training and deep degree of empathy. They empathize not only with the unwell animals brought to them for care, but also the human hearts that suffer along with their animal companions. Without question, West Mountain Animal Hospital is the gold standard by which all veterinary care facilities should be measured. In my opinion, they are at the top of the scale for Veterinary care in Southern Vermont and the surrounding areas. Read Less

When we moved back to Bennington we pretty quickly needed to find a vet.  We have three animals, all seniors: a twelve and a half year old dog who can only eat Rx food, a 8ish year old dog with really bad allergies (who is also dog reactive), and a 15 year old cat.  The cat is the only one who doesn't have any health problems. Our older dog started acting really funky... lethargic, stiff, moody.  This is NOT our dog.  Despite her 12 and a half years she's energetic and active.  She swims, hikes, loves to go in the car and never lets it get a minute past dinner time without reminding us.  And yet she was doing none of these things.  We went to see Dr. Suzie who immediately tested her for tick borne illnesses and yup, anaplasmosis.  We started treatment and she seemed to improve within 24 hours but then it all started again.  After we went back Dr. Suzie did some x-rays and showed us that despite a healthy spine there was one area that looked a little funky.  Also, if there were certain issues they wouldn't show up in an x-ray so she suggested a specialist.  We scheduled an MRI and they immediately did surgery which has fixed the problem.  We really appreciated Dr. Suzie's care and attention and unwillingness to give up figuring out what the heck was going on with our dog.  We also liked that we never heard, "She's just old," and that the entire staff seemed to understand that this was an overnight change.  While our home vet understood that we were worried a new vet might just think we didn't understand what happens with older dogs. Our little guy (the 8ish year old dog) gets really bad allergies and starts chewing his feet until they bleed along with getting really bad yeast infections in his ears.  He had a flare up over the summer and Dr. Suzie got him started on some meds quickly and he was on the mend. The office staff is super friendly, understands that we have a dog reactive dog, and has been awesome about scheduling us to help with Knuckles' issues.  Kind of a crazy thing but we lost Knuckles' tag at Lake Shaftsbury where we walk the dogs on the weekends.  A few days later we got a phone call from a woman who had found his tag.  Turns out she works at West Mountain - clearly the people who work their love animals, too.  Excellent vets, techs, office staff... day care, dog run -- you can't beat this place for all your domesticated animal needs!
