Been going here for about a year, and haven't been happy.  If I could give no stars to this place I would. Staff is lazy, unfriendly and not helpful. After Dr. Pearce refusing to fill my dog's medication (he's in congestive heart failure) due to an outstanding balance of 31.00- which I didn't know about, nor was told when I called in for a refill.  It wasn't until I called back several days later inquiring about the refill- I was told about the balance and Dr. Pearce's refusal. I find it completely disgusting a vet would refuse life saving medication for 31.00! After thousands of dollars I have spent for the last year.  I will NEVER return. No nonsense, very reasonably priced vet in Alexandria--something I thought would be impossible to find. Wonderful office staff and skilled and compassionate medical staff. They board cats which is a nice opton, especially for kitties with medical needs who are otherwise tough to board. Dedicated parking is a bonus. Building exterior is dated; don't let that deter you. Absolutely fantastic. My first time at Elpaw yesterday was a success. I have a old family cat about 19 years old I brought to Elpaw when he was acting strange. They we're able to get us in within 2 hours. When I got there everyone was friendly and we we're seen almost immediately. Doc came in and explained everything, took test, and helped on a budget. For everything I got I thought it was going to cost an arm and a leg but nope only about $200 😲 I will be bringing ALL of my pets here from here on out and will be recommending Elpaw to everyone I know in the area with Furbabies! Separate entrances for feline and canine clients. Good for my nervous kitties. The staff is SO pleasant, clearly people that love animals as much as I do. Only critique. Meds and treatments are a little pricey compared to commercial chains but I'd pay the extra 10$ for people that actually care about my pet. Read Less

My dog has had the same vet for years but I recently moved to Alexandria and had to find someone new (which I was nervous about). I settled on Elpaw because I liked that the reviews were good and they had separate areas for dog and cats (my dog is a little over zealous and scares cats with how much she wants to play with them lol). They got me in same day because on top of needing a checkup my dog was acting a little off so I wanted some tests done. The vet was in with me for almost an HOUR! She answered every question and was super patient. The staff all treated my shy pup gently and gave her time to adjust to her new surroundings. There was NO pressure to go crazy with tests and ultimately the price was fair and on par with my old vet that was in a rural area. I would 100% recommend Dr. Pearce and Elpaw, so glad I randomly chose it, thanks everyone for writing the reviews, it was helpful! Read Less

I read a lot of vet reviews before giving Elpaw a chance. I had recently moved to Alexandria with three dogs and a cat, and I was afraid that the cost of veterinary care would be much higher here. Additionally, I wanted a stand alone practice (not a chain vet). I hit the jackpot. When I called, I thought they were a bit curt, but likely they were busy. At our visit, they were so kind, doted on my older hound, even bringing her in the reception area to "work." The vet was pragmatic, took her time and was open to ideas---she even recommended I could buy a med elsewhere that they didn't carry if my pet responded to that one better. They did not push a single service or test. When I paid the bill as I left, I was super surprised as the costs were spot on with our old vet and super affordable. I'll have the cat in next but I feel so much more at home having found a good bet practice. Nothing fancy about the space, but there is parking on-site and separate waiting areas for cats and dogs. Dr. Pearce is simply the best. She takes incredible care of our cats, but also important, she takes good care of us. I can't imagine going anywhere else. We have never received anything less than perfect care in the 6 years I've been going there. The staff are awesome too. Read Less
