I adopted a cat who had been a long time resident at an animal shelter and was seen at Ft Hunt during her time there. We wanted to have her tested for a UTI/urinary issues and the shelter foster arranged with ft hunt to pick up a urine sample test kit so that I could bring a sample in. Our cat had been mistreated before she arrived at the animal shelter, so we can't pick her up and trying to get her in a carrier is terrifying for her. I brought the sample in and I explained the situation and that this had already been arranged. The receptionist was polite and pleasant. But, a young tech who seemed to have an attitude from the start told me that they couldn't test the sample without giving her an exam. (That was the second thing she said, the first was "I'm putting a catheter in a patient right now, so we don't have time to deal with this." I came during normal business hours and I had not asked to speak to this vet tech in particular -- this was pretty unprofessional.) The tech told me they couldn't prescribe medicine without seeing the cat. I politely told her I understood and wasn't asking for a prescription at this time, just lab results. Also, according to the cat's records, she had been examined at ft hunt six months before for the same issue. I also explained that if treatment were needed, we would need a dr who could do house calls because of our situation. Amazingly, she then said she could just give me some gabapentin for the cat so that we could bring her in. Gabapentin is a prescription medication... and she had just told me that the reason they needed an exam was because they can't prescribe without seeing the cat! That made it pretty obvious to me that demanding an exam had nothing to do with concern for the cat's health. The receptionist told us the manager would call later. We had to call later and got the same response, but by then it was too late to take the sample elsewhere. I later out found out that FT Hunt does house calls, which is what we will need for this cat in the future. But after FT Hunt was as difficult as possible about a reasonable (and prearranged) request for an existing patient, I can't imagine working with them. So they've lost an existing patient and a potential new customer. Read Less

My dog? well, he's a 16 pound Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix who was born with a Napoleon complex...in other words, he's pretty much the butthead of the neighbor when it comes to most people and other dogs. Thank goodness we found Ft Hunt Animal hospital! I had been boarding him once a year at another facility-it was good kennel but it took me almost an hour to get there, so when i realized Ft Hunt was in my neighborhood, I thought I would give them a try. It's been 2 years and I recommend them to friends-I could not be happier with the care. We use them for boarding and also his regular medical care. I love that all the techs know him by name and even though he's a bit of a pistol and sometimes has to wear the "party hat" (muzzle) when he's being trimmed, he doesn't hold it against them. He's even had his teeth cleaned there, which is a scary prospect for someone who lost a dog during a teeth cleaning, but he came through just fine and they promptly let me know he was doing well once he was out of the cleaning. He always seems happy when we pick him up from boarding and he's usually smelling especially nice due to the bath he gets. We make his boarding time a "spa" experience and usually have him bathed and trimmed while he's visiting--he even gets an extra walk each day just to keep him content. Read Less

The staff at Fort Hunt Animal Hospital was the nicest veterinary staff I have ever met. When my cat got a urinary infection, one of my mom's friends told her about this place. I knew this place would be good when I called and the person who made the appointment was very friendly and helpful.
My cat has had a history of urinary infections. Other vets that I had been to simply looked at my cat and charged me 900+ dollars for procedures and medication. The veteranarian here looked at my cat, and carefully explained to me what the problem was by showing us a chart of a cat's urinary tract. Because of this, I knew exactly what my cat's problem was and had a better idea of how to prevent it in the future.
At the end of the visit, I was grateful to know that my cat did not end up having an unecesarry and expensive procedure. I ended up paying only about $250 for medication and food; which was about a quarter of what I had paid at other vets for the same problem
My visit here was a very pleasant one. The vet and the vet techs were very friendly, and I could tell my cat was comfortable as well. Read Less

My dog? well, he's a 16 pound Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix who was born with a Napoleon complex...in other words, he's pretty much the butthead of the neighbor when it comes to most people and other dogs. Read Less

My boyfriend and I recently moved to the area and we were referred to Dr. Barker by a friend of ours. She was absolutely amazing, as well as the rest of the staff. Everybody went out of their way to be friendly and caring towards my high-energy canine! The facility was clean and welcoming. Dr. Barker spent time with me explaining everything that she was going to do, and getting to know my pet. Great experience. I'm happy, and Milo is happy :) Read Less

Read Less
