I have been coming to VCA Old Town for over 10 years and wouldn’t entrust the care and wellbeing of my pet family members to anyone else. I have had pet companions for 30+ years in several states across the US and can say that VCA Old Town is second to none. All of VCA Old Town’s doctors are great, and Dr. Laura Maclean is absolutely special. Dr. Maclean has such a natural talent for understanding the needs of animals which I would liken to the level of “Dr. Doolittle”. Whether my pets have experienced litter box issues, anxious fur licking, discomfort from medical conditions, or courses of cancer treatment, Dr. Maclean has been an amazing coach for me, to help me fully understand “animal speak” and the needs of my dear animal-babies. She is clearly animal focused in her approach, and asks insightful questions ranging from my pets’ behaviors, habits, relationships, and environment, to unmask their needs from every angle. Her range of expertise for treatment is broad and holistic, combining the best that both traditional and complementary modalities offer. Over the years, with every new challenge, Dr. Maclean’s thoughtful care has not only been critical for my pets’ health and comfort, but has consistently been instrumental for bringing me and my pet family members closer, fostering a loving, harmonious, and happy household. This is a good animal hospital, although it's much pricier compared to other vets in the area - probably has to do with the Old Town location. Staff here is friendly and attentive to the animals, and their boarding service is convenient. Read Less

Dog Boarding- The staff here is simply amazing! I have a black lab/pit mix pup who is about 3 years old named Bear Cub. Instead of being standoffish around him because he is part pit, like most people do when they see him, they welcomed him with open arms and gave him the love and understanding he needs. Bear was abused as a puppy and because of that abuse he has always suffered with being scared of people, but he instantly opened up to the staff at VCA and even accepted treats from them within seconds of meeting them, this is not usual for him. They were warm and welcoming when every other kennel in the area told us that Bear wouldn't be welcome. They have a special touch and understanding for animals who need a little extra help and encouragement. I will definitely be working with them in the future for additional training for Bear, any boarding needs, and any vet visits. Read Less

Saved my Rick! Thanks Dr. Lewis my hero. I was just reading the other posts! This is the best Vet around, hands down. I brought my dog there (from another vet) on the verge of death and Dr. Lewis saved him! Also a heart issue...I have never been asked to "buy" anything or feel like they are causing me to spend more money than I have to. Just recently my dog was diagnosed with cancer...again, under the watchful eye of Dr. Lewis "she" caught it and he is being treated with a great prognosis. Not a good experience. I am sure the vet service itself is adequate, but the practice is like a car sales lot. Unfortunately not only are they rather expensive, they try and up-sell you on everything. When I first checked my dog in - before I even got to the waiting room seat, I had an email selling me insurance. Then once inside I was up sold everything from cans of food t, nail clipping etc etc etc- I expected them to offer a side of fires. Then to top things off, they have still not sent my new vet all her medical records - inc immunizations despite requests from both me and the vet. If you visit, be aware and keep hold of your wallet. My boyfriend and I just moved to old town and adopted a 7 month old pup. We took her to this hospital for our first appointment with her. They booked an appointment for us on the same day that we called which is amazing. She had a little bit of a rash on her belly and we generally needed to get her checked into a vet. The doctor was very kind, helpful, and informative. The visit was quick and easy. Every one who worked there was friendly and really seemed to love and care about animals. Plus, I found out that they take care of avian and exotic animals which is wonderful because I have a bird and lizard as well! We have been going to VCA Old Town for almost 4 years now and see Dr. Clark & Dr. McClean. Both doctors are great and have been nothing but upfront & honest when answering questions, talking about tests or issues, etc. We have never been pressured into taking expensive tests and they always did a walk through with us on the bill if we did anything that was more then a check up. The front desk staff has changed since we first started to now and you can see a difference. They are quick to help you out for appointments, very nice and greet us at the door and we haver never had an issue. They also went above & beyond for us when we call on a Friday night right before close to ask them to write a support letter as we were going to be adopting a dog the next day. We went there Saturday morning and they had a fantastic letter signed by the office manager & Dr. McClean. The techs are great as well. We have pretty much had every tech there and have not had one issue with any of them. The last thing I wanted to point out is that vet care is expensive, so having low expectations on how much a visit is can be bad. If price is an issue then I would call ahead of time and ask questions. They have a deal for first time visits as well as for medicines like heartworm & flea, etc. I would recommend this place and go see Dr. McClean or Dr. Clark :) Read Less
