One word: Unacceptable! I should have known when after multiple visits with my male new kitten, it took cutting my cat open to neuter for them to realize HE was actually a SHE. You're a VET...should have seen this the four visits before. NOW the horror story that I will NEVER recover from. I took my 17 yr old cat there to peacefully end her long loving life. At first they were calm using their soft voices, then after taking my credit card and over-charging for this service including an examine that DID NOT happen the quickly turned disrespectful. My cat wasn't friendly but also wasn't a killer tiger. Bottomline she was my baby for 17 yrs. They took her back to sedate her so they could insert IV. After a VERY painful 40 minutes, I exit room looking for staff. NO STAFF around. Finally a nurse shows-up to say "in soft voice" it took more time and more sedation because she was being difficult. I KNEW SOMETHING WENT WRONG. They brought her back in to me...basically ALREADY DEAD! Her tongue hanging out, limp, eyes black. They messed-up OVER-sedated her...basically killed her before I could say good-bye. The vet said "the sedation took long because she had bad blood circulation." BS..this was an 11 pound cat NOT a damn elephant. They took my good-bye away, they took my cat away too soon...I had to hold her limp head in my hands to say good-bye. Then we he finally gave her the final dose...it wasn't pleasant. Horrible noises from her. I will never recover from they put me and my cat through. It's all about money for them. I hope the branch shuts down. And here's a tip...at least have tissues in the room...and leave owners alone without having to be asked to leave. Read Less

I've been coming to this Veterinary Clinic for more than 20 years for multiple pets & have gotten first rate care for them all. But I've been out of work all winter w/ Pneumonia, which caused me to have to move & to not be able to afford to put my 22 yr. old cat down to prevent his suffering. VCA stepped in and agreed to euthanize my cat at no cost to me once they realized my situation & what a long time customer I was. It was devastating to me to lose a pet I'd had for 2 decades, but the thought of turning him over to the shelter as an unwanted pet was unbearable to me. The compassion VCA @ Annandale showed me was something I will never forget!! Now I can bury my cat like the wanted pet that he was instead of giving him up as a stray to relieve him of his misery. Thank you VCA & thank you Dr. Paradise... we will be forever grateful for what you did for us & our Kitty!!!!!! Read Less

WOW, some of these reviews are strange. We have brought ALL of our pets here for 5 years now (two dogs and two cats). Recently, within the last two years both my senior dogs had gotten very sick and had to be put down (CANCER SUX). The experience here was VERY SAD but professional. Parting with a pet is one of the most heart wrenching experiences one can go through and BOTH experiences were met with respect and kindness. One of the doctors even said a prayer for us (after she asked if it was OK). I will give you it's not cheap, BUT what is your loved one worth? Do they BECOME JUST PETS when they get sick or would YOU spend a few more dollars on a family member?? They gave me options BOTH times and never pushed or encroached on our sad experiences in the exam room. I've been in the Army for over 20 years now I have met lots of people, an consider myself a pretty good judge of character. The two (female) doctors that helped us through these experiences were VERY professional, NOT COLD professional but KIND professional! I'll pay some extra to get great service, quality care and a nice facility any day. I give them 110% positive - I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING THERE WITH MY FAMILY AND I WHEN WE NEEDED YOU TO HELP US THROUGH THOSE HORRIBLE EVENTS. (MAXI and LIBBY RIP WE LOVE AND MISS YOU BOTH) They gave us, kindness, options, tissues, and respect. Read Less

My wife had a terrible experience here while bringing our cat to be put down. It's a terrible experience in itself having to put a cherished member of your animal family down, but VCA Annandale made it even worse. My wife called VCA Annandale to explain the situation prior to our appointment and the vet completely disregarded our family's wishes and repeatedly pushed $600+ in medical treatments for our 16+ year old cat. Ultimately, the vet disregarded our wishes and we got stuck with a $70 bill for the visit. But even worse is having to go again through the grieving process with my family and little girls while we look for another vet clinic. Wouldn't recommend this place. Read Less

I have been going to this veterinary clinic for little over a year. I took my 1 yr,4 mn old small dog for heartworm and fecal test and they charged me $112. When I asked why I am charged that much money the front office told me that due to some corporate changes blah blah blah. I came home and looked up online and I even called other hospitals and the max I heard for heartworm testing is $50. Two months back, my puppy had her physical, rabies, dhcpp, bordetella and VCA charged me $176. So VCA overall charged me $300 approx. for my 1 yr old annual examination and injections!!! I was a previous customer at Caring Hands Hospital and guess what how much I paid for all these an year ago (note: at that time my puppy was 8 months old) it was only $180. The reason why I moved to VCA was for their association with Animal Welfare League and they help etc. But the way you burnt your current customer this way is not cool. You lost a loyal customer and I going back to Caring Hands Hospital because I cant tolerate the BS and shady corporate policies. Good bye.. Read Less

I had adopted my dog two days earlier and this was our first visit to the vet together. My dog has hypothyroidism and has to be under daily medication. I chose VCA as the shelter where I picked up the dog from recommended it. VCA offered a first "complimentary" visit. But it turned out a bitter experience. As a new dog owner you are given a lecture on what risks are out there--call it scare tactic. Fair enough. But nothing on her medication, and her blood test, sure....in six months! We nevertheless had a blood test. But the blood test was partial and includes only 4 key tests, not the T4 for the dog, which are critically important to check the condition of the thyroid. Next, we had a ear cleaning--at my request. But the vet cleaned one ear and sold me the product to clean the other ear. The dog is large, and the vet and his assistant were holding her while pouring the liquid in the ear. Needless to say that I completely failed when I tried to clean the dog's other ear later that evening. I needed an assistant too! Also they charge an anal gland clean, but nothing tells me that they performed it. Then I tried to get a prescription for the meds, and returned alone to clinic on the following Saturday. The vet was busy on a visit and I left the clinic empty-handed, with the promise, though, that the prescription would come on Monday. However, in the meantime the clinic tried to sell me the prescription medication--the dog needs the thyroidal replacement and the supplement. It took them 3 phone calls to come to the total $138 for both medications and shipment included, and of course, sorry for the inconvenience, they don't have the medications exactly, they have generics only. Providentially, VCA could not get to charge my credit card. I took it as a sign that I should try something else. So I ended ordering the medication from an online store..... For half the price!! and for the real stuff, not the generic. But the online store needed the prescription. Wednesday evening, still nothing from the vet. The online store just noted that they did *not* receive the prescription from the store. Had I opted to go with VCA, I would have already received the meds.... I am not going there again. They are only after your money, they cuddle the human companion, and pretend to be interested in the pet.Read Less
