We've been taking our boys Reed and Sprout to the clinic since they were tiny kittens. We just went back for their one-year checkup/rabies shot, and I am still nothing but thrilled with the fantastic service and care they/we get. In particular, Dr. Brown has been practicing longer than I've been alive (seriously, haha) but has clearly kept up with the times and with modern vet medicine. Thanks to Dr. Brown and team! Read Less

I can't say enough great things about this vet. The facility is cat only, which means the environment in the waiting room is relaxed and cats don't get overly stressed. The whole place is decorated beautifully and has pheromones to calm the cats. The veterinarians and vet techs are so caring toward the cats, taking time to play with them and approaching them in a non threatening manner. I also like that they took my cats' blood in front of me so I could see how gentle they are. The vet even took time to explain the values of one of my cat's previous test results and was collaborative with me in coming up with a plan for his care going forward. Prices were reasonable (for the DMV area) and they have a rewards program. Read Less

This is a clinic that really cares about cats and wants to do what is best for them. They show kindness by not declawing cats. They stopped doing that 15 years ago. As a veterinarian who doesn't declaw they are ethical and won't do a procedure like that because it is harmful to cats and causes them problems afterward. Thank goodness Nova Cat Clinic is a vet you can depend on to give your cat the best care. Read Less

This clinic keeps popping back up when I look for pet care so I'm finally reviewing based on my one visit with them a couple of years ago as a reminder for myself. The reviews were really promising and the idea of a clinic that specializes with cats was really appealing given how much focus seems to be on dogs at a lot of places. However, I was greatly disappointed. The check-in was friendly but the cat handling was really concerning. What happened here while my one cat was being diagnosed was frankly a bit horrifying and I'm one of the less emotional fur parents. I've been to a couple of clinics before but this is the first one where my cat escalated to hissing and caterwauling and I really can't help but feel it was the way I saw them handle her. Typically, my cat is the friendliest thing ever and acts more like a dog so this was all new to me in the 5+ years that I've had her and I had never seen this even when she's gotten shots for vaccinations. They finally wrapped her up in a towel and immediately proceeded to try to draw a urine sample. She was fighting them and screaming as she got poked a few times. They must have saw my face because they excused themselves with her to another room where I heard her screaming really loudly then I heard a burst of laughter. When they brought her back, she smelled like urine and they shared that she was so angry that she just peed all over the table in the other room. I didn't really find this funny though they did try to wipe her off a bit. Needless to say, I was upset and went with another vet clinic. Read Less

I brought my cat here after she was diagnosed with diabetes as part of a horrific experience with VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital. When I arrived, I was overwhelmed with my cat's diagnosis and nervous about my ability to care for her. Despite the fact that Dr. Wooten wasn't expecting our visit to be about diabetes (apparently the receptionist never wrote this down), she was extremely kind and patient as I asked question after question. She reassured me that I would be able to take care of my cat, and helped me develop a care plan. The original consultation was about $200 and covered all of my cat's diabetic testing for 30 days. My cat went back a few weeks later for a glucose curve (included in the consultation price) to see how well her insulin dosage was working. Despite scheduling the curve on a day when Dr. Wooten was available, she was seen by another vet. This made me uncomfortable, as I didn't want care advice from someone I had never met, especially after my previous vet experience. I have since learned that you need to request a specific vet if you want one, but I felt like I did that when I scheduled the appointment; the repeated failure of the receptionists to accurately represent my requests is one reason why I've docked a star, as is the diabetic educational materials I was given that conflicted with the advice Dr. Wooten gave me and quite frankly didn't make any sense. However, I would definitely recommend NOVA Cat Clinic and Dr. Wooten to anyone with a newly diabetic cat. They definitely made a scary situation much more manageable and my cat is doing great! I decided to switch from VCA Hospital to NOVA Cat Clinic. And, I'm so glad I made the switch. First appointment was my cat's annual exam visit. Dr. Barron was amazing. She really took care of my dollface, who was nervous beyond belief. Just great care and attention, and provided sound explanations and advice. Second appointment was with Dr. Bazemore. I was super excited when she walked through the door. New Veterinarian at the clinic and just all around nice and helpful. This visit, my darling girl is experiencing vomiting issues. Dr. Bazemore took the time to explain the xrays, made a few recommendations to adjust her eating and food brands, and add a little more fiber to the diet. I've had 2 great experiences at this clinic. I feel like we found our new Veterinary home. All around great experience and great service. Read Less

The team at NCC is the best in the business! I've been going there for about 9 years. I had an elderly cat who had diabetes and eventually kidney disease. They really take the time to discuss treatment options, teach you how to medicate and what to look for. I once had to take my diabetic to an ER vet. She started walking strangely while there and the Drs. there said they'd never seen anything like it. One quick call to Dr. Brown to describe the symptoms and he knew exactly what it was. They are a feline-only clinic and if you have a cat, you MUST go to a feline specialist. I moved about 25 minutes away a few years ago, but I still take my new kitten there (and adopted her from their wonderful non-prof kitten foundation). I can't say enough about the staff - everyone from front desk to doctors. There are too many to name. They are all ace professionals, respectful, kind and love cats! THANK YOU NCC for all that you do for felines! Read Less

I just can't get over or make clear enough how great the team at NOVA Cat Clinic is. I've taken my cats here since their very first vet check up and it has always been a pleasant, safe, and fulfilling experience. They take great strides to create a calming environment for their patients and their attention to detail is incredible. I had recently taken my cat to a 24 hour emergency clinic for problems swallowing, and within minutes they were talking about shots, expensive procedures, and surgeries. I opted to wait (she was not in immediate danger) until Monday to take her to her doctor at Nova Cat Clinic instead, and within minutes of seeing her they had been able to spot the problem, generated a much more conservative and less-invasive treatment plan, and had us feeling comfortable enough to leave her with them for a while. Less than two hours after leaving her there the team had managed to resolve her problem (swallowed something sharp, I love that cat but she's not the smartest) in the least invasive manner possible and outlined a further treatment plan for her on the spot. I pick her up later today, but I already feel confident and secure knowing she's been taken care of by the wonderful people at this clinic. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this place is because I don't want to fight you for appointments! But that said, I've never had trouble finding a time that works for me. They do great work here, it is the best veterinary office I've ever had the pleasure (or displeasure) of visiting. Don't forget to greet the office cat (but don't pet!) when you stop by! Read Less

I loved the vet and he really took his time to educate me on everything I needed to know about taking care of Mr. Kitty! He also followed up the visit with an email giving me recommendations on what else would help with his feedings etc. I definitely recommend this veterinary and we will be going back for our vet visits from now on! We were so grateful that Dr. Brown spent an hour with us explaining everything, answering all our questions, providing tips, and product recommendations. And of course, we can’t express our thanks enough that sweet Buddy allowed us to practice on him since our Dasher is so terrified of the vet. If you think that you’ve ever been to a vet clinic where your cat was treated like a queen (or king), then think again. Our four-year old Himalayan wanted to wonder around the moment we stepped in. She simply felt home. Even when we got in the examination room, she kept her joyful mood before, during, and after the examination. The fact that the clinic is exclusively for cats may have played a role, but the genuine care and friendliness of every single person we met is amazing. From the receptionist to the nurse to the doctor, we’ve never witnessed such care. Even when withdrawing blood for some tests, our cat wasn’t irritated. The lovely lady kept on pressing on her leg to make sure not to bruise that I wished I had such care the last time I had a blood work! If you live near by or not, it is worth it to take your cat the NOVA. It makes your vet visit surprisingly pleasant for you and your cat. They are amazing! Read Less

My cats have been clients of NOVA Cat for ages, since we first moved to Arlington.  It can be a very busy practice at times, but they do focus on each individual client.  The staff are very knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring.  It seems somewhat unfair to criticize the office itself as a previous poster has done - it is located in an old house but it is still quite charming and cozy.  The office is moving to new space very soon, and I for one hope it is not too sterile and clinical.  One of my cats just turned 18 and has been going to the clinic since he was just a young cat.  He is normally terrified of the car and being outside our house, but the vets, techs, and staff are the best at calmly examining him, listening to me, and explaining what the best course of treatment might be.  Dr. Wooton and Dr. Brown have always presented treatment options when needed and I haven't ever felt like they were merely pushing a particular treatment.  They have guided us and several of our cats through cancer treatments, palliative measures, surgery, and now kidney disease.  i have complete confidence in NOVA Cat and I am grateful to have found them! Well, I must say I m disappointed how my interaction with the clinic went today. I have always been a fan of this place and have referred many people here.My cat has been seen recently and after the initial exam, we decided to wait and see if his condition( a cyst on his tail) worsens. The bill was pretty high( $140) for a simple exam and an antibiotic shot but obviously I figured we 'll be in good hands and will be taken care of going forward and thats worth it. So things did go South for us and the cyst busted. I called in to see if we can be fit in the schedule, since its a follow up on a condition that I assumed the doc was commited to see through at this point. I was hoping that the doctor herself will be notified so she can check her availability and someone will call us back with options. Instead we only got an option to be seen right then and there, which I could not do, or to be seen in the far enough future to potentially wait for an infection. The other option was the emergency clinic. While I understand that that the doc might not be able to fit us in for an extensive surgery and other lengthy procedures,BUT I do sincerely feel like a 10 minute visit could ve been arranged just to see if a simple antibiotic was an option, since I,did clean the wound out. And go from there. But we are left hanging.Had to schedule a whole new visit with Caring Hands cause we had nowhere else to turn.Update: got treated by Caring Hands with deep wound cleansing and also given antibiotic pills as well as it being an Emergency visit (extra cost) and STILL ended up paying less than I did for Nova's basic exam and a shot. Not exactly inspired to rush back to see Nova folks anytime soon. Read Less

This place is totally worn down, filthy, stinky. No wonder when people think of cats and cat owner they don't have a good image of it all. Come on guys. What do you spend all the money you charge your clients?! Not customer service, obviously. My experience was by far the worse with regard to vet visits. As you walk in, no one greets you. There were 3-4 staff at the desk or walking by, just talking with each other and not even acknowledging your presence at all. Then you sit on disgusting pieces of furniture and wait for ever. And the vet consultation sucks even more: careless, quick, focusing on where they can make money off, and zero attention to the pet's condition or priorities. Heartless and poorly qualified in comparison to true professionals in this field. Unacceptable "care", long wait, poor customer service, unjustified charges, and oh did I mention the lack of sanitation?!Your cat deserves much better than that. If you love her/him, go elsewhere. I take all three of my current babies here...one of them even came from here as a bottle baby they saved! I love having a cat specific practice with cat friendly visits, spaces, and most of all vets who have cat specific knowledge. That knowledge gave me a heads up before one of my sweet babies died about a year ago; they knew cat specific vital signs vs other creatures and so pointed out he was breathing too fast and hard for a kitty and suggested I get him checked at his cardiologist before his scheduled recheck. In the end nothing could save his life as he had a congenital issue :( but if I hadn't been told to take him in before his scheduled appointment I'd never have known his disease had unexpectedly progessed super quickly; and I wouldn't have had the chance to spoil him in his last days before he died. My other non-cat specific vet office had not thought his breathing unusual as they weren't specifically versed on cats. A-purr-lus for these guys!Read Less

Took our babies BooBoo and Parson to their first cat clinic today to prepare for our travels to Mexico! What an awesome experience it was going to an animal clinic for cats only! Great knowledgeable staff; very nice, and in a neat over 100 year old house. I highly recommend them to any cat owners in or near Arlington. Just wish there were more of these out there instead of only veterinarian clinics that feel more dominated by clients who are dog owners. Read Less

I love this place. Even though I've given them an arm and a leg over the years, I've never felt pressured or judged (mostly). I also love the setting. Most vets' offices are full of barking or whining dogs, and while I love dogs, that energy is really unsettling to a cat and really unhelpful before they get poked and prodded by a vet.I started coming here two years ago with my then-8 year-old cat. He had always been shiny, bright-eyed and energetic, so I didn't have a lot of health concerns. He just needed a regular place to get check-ups as he rolled into senior citizenhood.Since then he's had teeth cleaning, a mass removed and a referral to RadioCat for hyperthyroidism. It has all been expensive but worth it for my peace of mind. When I declined to have his cyst tested for cancer, I got some weird looks, but I wasn't pressured into spending more money (about $400) than I thought was necessary. They were also very helpful in getting all of his testing done so that he could have his thyroid treated, and they are very good about following up on that. They always tell me how cute and sweet he is, even though I'm sure they say that about all the kitties. My cat also tends to wet himself in the car, and they are always ready with a garbage bag and a pee pad to line his carrier for the trip home. The only thing I wouldn't recommend them for, and this goes for all veterinary offices, is routine stuff. I always take my cat to the Washington Humane Society for his shots, because you can't beat $10 with a stick. I also just got a new kitten, and will be taking her to a clinic for her battery of shots-spay-microchip, because I think doing it at the vet is a waste of money. But for sure, I'll be bringing her to NoVa for her yearly check-ups. I first came to NOVA cat clinic to get a second opinion as to why my cat was throwing up so frequently. A previous vet had some ideas, but wasn't able to nail down a problem. Nova cat clinic was able to give me a next day appointment, and generally proved easy to schedule with. As many others have said, the building is an old home. There are two parking spots in front, and a lot out back (although, I'm not sure if it's for the clinic or Dharna next door, I parked there anyway and was always fine). Inside, there are a few vet cats that roam around. During my time at Nova cat clinic, overall, I was pleased, but there were a handful of things I didn't love. Mainly: the front desk staff didnt' seem entirely with it. On my first visit, they had never called my old vet for my cat's records like they said they would, so, my first appointment was almost useless. Luckily, they were able to get them while I was still in the appointment. Additionally, when they gave me some liquid meds, they forgot to add in the water and give me a dropper, so I had to go back. The office manager was apologetic, and basically yelled at the staff infront of me, telling them it was "unacceptable" that I had to come back.  I did also feel as though I waited a fair while for my appointments. As for the Doctors - I met with Dr. Health. She seemed to know more than other vets I'd been to, perhaps because they focus solely on cats. She seemed to know what my cat likely had almost immediately, which is no small thing. Unfortunately, Dr. Heath is too smart for her own good, and had a lot of difficulties explaining things to me in a way that I (someone with no understanding of science) understood them. I had actually asked her to dumb things down a bit. She certainly tried and was patient with me, but it still didn't quite work. Eventually, I just googled everything she said. Also, Dr. Heath wasn't quite as forthright as some of my past vets about the costs/benefits of certain tests, but she certainly wasn't pushy. One day, I called and my cat really wasn't doing well and I was horrified. Dr. Heath let me come in ASAP to check her out. I really appreciated that. Over the next few days, I called daily, and always got a call back the same day.Unfortunately, my beautiful baby girl didn't make it, and got so sick, I had to put her down. It's been a heartbreaking experience, but, I feel as though Nova Cat Clinic has been very compassionate. The day after, Dr. Heath sent me an e-mail to say how sorry she was for my loss, a week later, I got a card signed by the whole staff, and after that a letter about a donation they had made in my cat's honor. It was a lovely gesture that I appreciated. Nova cat clinic overall had some issues, but, I believe that the vets there are all really smart, and really love cats. Read Less

I have nothing but great things to say about NoVa Cat Clinic. I switched to NoVa 1.5 years ago after one of my cats started eating less and I read all the rave reviews about the practice. Despite a laundry list of medical problems they helped find, Drs. Barron, Brown and Wootton have all been great with her, and Dr. Barron's acupuncture has kept her going strong. They've also been great with my other cat, who had to have several teeth pulled along with other normal cat issues, and with me, who has worried through every procedure. The vet techs and front desk staff couldn't be a nicer or more professional group of people. There are a lot of vets closer to my house in NW DC, but it's worth the drive to NoVa - and that's saying a lot given how much my cats hate the car ride :-) Read Less

When I took my cat to NoVA Cat Clinic we were blown away by everything. When you first walk in the front desk staff are helpful and upbeat and it's a nice homey environment, plus there are 2 cats the live there that you can sometimes pet. We didn't wait long at until we were taken to see the Doctor. Doctor Heath was thorough and took her time, we didn't feel rushed at all. She was knowledgeable and knew exactly how to approach our cats kidney problems. But the main reason for my 5 star review is when we went back a few weeks later to take in a stray cat we have been taking are of. When we went in we saw Dr. Brown who is also the owner. He was also thorough, caring, and did not make us feel rushed at all which was greatly appreciated since our appointment was an "open window." He was kind enough to offer us a very generous discount for our stray cat and answered all our questions. I will continue to take my cat here for years to come and recommend NoVa Cat Clinic to anyone with a cat! Read Less

This was the either the fourth or fifth time taking my cat here since we first got him about two years ago as a kitten. I can legitimately say this was the only time I've ever had a not particularly good experience here - every other time would have been a five or maybe at worst a four, but yesterday it was bad enough that I felt it was worth it to leave my first Yelp review.Firstly, despite the fact that I had to make an appointment for 6 PM on a work night because scheduling here is so busy, we managed to get there a full fifteen minutes early like good patients. It didn't matter because it took us a full 45 minutes to be seen - an entire half an hour late for our appointment. It didn't appear anyone really cared much beyond a perfunctory "sorry for the wait, things have been crazy this afternoon, etc." I think part of it may have been that the people ahead of us may have been either late or hadn't been there before, because a vet tech came out and had a somewhat lengthy conversation about their cat's health, which admittedly sounded somewhat rough for the poor thing. What made it worse was that the building was very warm the whole time, which brought me back to my college years of living in sweltering brick buildings without A/C, but this place has A/C because you can see the dial right there in the lobby. So not only were both of us uncomfortable the whole time waiting, but our cat was clearly not happy about being cooped up in his carrier for such a long time in a warm place. But in any case, this underscores something that is an actual issue for the clinic - the building itself. There's only two exam rooms, and despite having met four different vets there, it seems that only two are working at any one time, which I suppose makes sense if you only have two rooms to examine patients in. The building is also old brick and looks like it was a house at one point, which means that despite its charming atmosphere it's not suited to be a medical facility of any capacity. I know they've been talking about moving to a bigger location on Glebe Road for ages but I don't know when they're ever going to be moving there.Speaking of the vets, Doctors Brown and Wooten are amazing, wonderful, caring vets who have always been great with our cat when we've brought him in without stressing him out. Even a few months ago when we had a young guy we'd never met before, that vet was very nice and friendly, even if he was a bit more thorough with his exams than Drs. Brown and Wooten usually are. However, this time around we had a fourth vet who I've never met before, and she did not provide a good experience for our cat. Despite that we were there for a routine rabies vaccine and some follow up about his weight from when we brought him in four months ago, when we brought up that he had had some issues with nibbling on his hind legs and tail, despite insisting that we had not seen any signs of it, this vet insisted that she give him a rectal exam to see if his glands were enflamed or something, right before giving him his vaccine as well. Our cat was extremely upset by this as he's very timid to begin with, and it was a considerably bigger hassle than we had wanted for something that, as we expected, turned up nothing. And her and the vet tech's attitude was extremely dismissive of the whole thing and the bad experience the two of us and our boy had had.So we finally got to leave about an hour an a half after arriving, around 7 PM, and although we got a little catnip mouse for free the whole trip was really bad.I hope that whenever we have to come back we won't have this bad of an experience, because as it stands we'll probably only bring him in for his shots and certainly won't be bringing up any other possible health issues like we have before. It doesn't help that the prices for treatment are somewhat high for a vet as well. And while I'm at it might as well point out a couple of other little annoying things that bug me whenever we go there. Some of the staff have attitude problems and don't particularly seem to care about the people waiting around for their appointments. And as with some other people who are really into cats, for some reason there's some traces of pseudomedicine around, such as marketing acupuncture and some homeopathic stuff. These people really know about cats, but if they improved everything else it wouldn't be such an ordeal coming here sometimes.

The team at NCC is the best in the business! I've been going there for about 9 years. I had an elderly cat who had diabetes and eventually kidney disease. They really take the time to discuss treatment options, teach you how to medicate and what to look for. I once had to take my diabetic to an ER vet. Read Less

I had adopted my senior cat a week prior and needed to take him in for a check up. I am a first time pet owner and the thought of taking in my cat for a pet visit made me nervous. However I did my research on the list of clinics my shelter gave me and chose Nova Cat clinic. Calling to make an appointment was easy and smooth. And upon arriving the reception was just as nice! I loved the vet and he really took his time to educate me on everything I needed to know about taking care of Mr. Kitty! He also followed up the visit with an email giving me recommendations on what else would help with his feedings etc. I definitely recommend this veterinary and we will be going back for our vet visits from now on! We are just thrilled to have moved our kitties to this practice. Perhaps the only way the experience could have been better is if they had literally discovered a cure for feline diabetes :) Seriously. We were so grateful that Dr. Brown spent an hour with us explaining everything, answering all our questions, providing tips, and product recommendations. And of course, we can’t express our thanks enough that sweet Buddy allowed us to practice on him since our Dasher is so terrified of the vet. That kind of attention to clients is so hard to come by and nearly priceless. Thank you! Read Less

They noticed things in my cat that other vets never did!   Talk about quality!  All the staff members are great and the front desk reception is superb!  I cant wait to see them grow and expand. Maybe a NOVA dog clinic.  They are so phenomenal and take great pride in their work!  Smart friendly and awesome. Great building in their new location.  Plenty of parking.  I felt so comfortable going here its like walking into your familys house.  Love everything about this place.  Thank you NOVA!!! Read Less

We love Nova Cats. It's a wonderful, caring clinic with knowledgeable doctors and techs; the staff at the desk is friendly and responsive. We also love Dr. Marcus Brown, who has taken care of two of our cats: Isadora, from age 10 to 18 years; and 11 year old Tashi since she was 7 months old when we adopted her. His theoretical and practical understanding is rich and amazing, made even better by his love for cats. He follows up and thoroughly explains issues that may arise. Dr. Fernandez is also excellent; thorough, caring and gentle. We also greatly value Ellen Coroza, a licensed technician, who has been there for many years. If you have a kitten or cat who needs attention, or just basic checkups, Nova Cats is the place to go! Read Less

I love NOVA Cat Clinic. The staff and doctors are kind and thoughtful. Everyone is genuinely interested in the well-being of my cat. I once tried a different vet in Arlington but did not have nearly as good as an experience as I have each time I visit NOVA Cat Clinic and that is because the doctors at NOVA Cat Clinic spend more time trying figure out the problem. I perceive the NOVA Cat Clinic doctors as having greater expertise and knowledge in feline health issues. Also, they do not overcharge me for visits; I perceive the office visit pricing as fair and reasonable. Read Less
