I learned of this place from my bosses as they take their pets here. It's about 30 minutes from the Richmond area, so it's a ways out but it's definitely worth it.The owners are husband and wife. You can tell the husband/doctor loves animals in his personality and the way he takes care of your pets. He told us what we shots we needed to get our dog based on our lifestyle and not every shot so they can "get money". I'm really grateful for that.I've also heard of vets charging a "visit fee" in addition to the care/shots, but they don't do that here. All in all, I highly recommend this place as they've really surprised me with how cheap their services are for good quality service. Our puppy's shots are $40 for multiple shots in one!

The veterinarians are great. Super nice, caring, and are good at their job. However, the vet techs are not as great. My dog has horrible anxiety and acts out when new people try to do things to her; however, she never acts maliciously(ex: biting, scratching, etc.). My dog only reacts by simply moving away from the problem or in situations like this she will resist to being pulled away from her family. One vet tech in particular was very rude in the way she handled my dog. She pulled extremely hard on her leash which resulted in the collar (one designed to get tighter as it starts to slip) almost slipping off her head. As she dragged the dog back into the room my dog made choking noises which she never makes. In the back room my dog was crying extremely loud, and instead of them coming out and asking what we think they should do, they yelled at her. Then we hear them saying "These people obviously don't know how to care for this dog" and "She needs to be tranquillized(...couldn't hear the rest of this phrase...)" and so on. Then the rude vet tech comes out while dragging our dog and informs us that our dog pooped/peed on herself out of fear. My dog has never done that before in her life and was clearly showing signs she was terrified of this woman and ready to run back to us. Then the vet tech sits down and tells us that we need to do serious training to get her "problem fixed" or need to start giving her tranquilizers or other sedative drugs. We informed her that we have put our dog through multiple training courses and her only issue is that she is a shy, skiddish dog who only trusts me and my close family. She put off a very judge mental persona and claimed we need to "fix her issues" now before she hurts somebody else. Like I said, my dog has never bit, scratched, or done anything towards anyone with malicious intent. My dog could smell this lady's attitude which made this whole situation so much worse. Maybe if my dog was presented with a kind, caring tech the situation would have been a little better. Also it's unfortunate that I have to give this whole establishment 1 star because of our experience with a vet tech, but I could not let this go unreported.

We brought our 14 year old cat in today due to an eye irritation. This was our first visit to Ashcake Animal Clinic, as we have recently moved to the area. Our cat is normally a nervous wreck at the vet...but not this time! She was calm and there were no incidents of her getting upset. The veterinarian was gentle and spoke softly to her, and she never moved. We not only got an explanation for her eye condition, we also got detailed answers for some other concerns we have had. We are so pleased that we switched to Ashcake Animal Clinic and will definitely recommend them to anyone in need of vet services. We will be back!

Words are totally inadequate to express the gratitude and respect we have for the Doctors and staff at Ashcake Animal Clinic who saved our pet's life. We had a previous great relationship that had spanned many years and two pets. But late last year our cat, who is diabetic, experienced a seizure. She continued to seize after I found her and became unresponsive.I brought Mishka into Ashcake Animal Clinic where Theresa, who met me coming in, simultaneously placed us in an exam room and located Dr. Linda Olberding. Dr. Linda wasn't supposed to be there, but had spent more time than anticipated with another patient. Happenstance was good to us that day - with Lori getting a difficult IV stick on an unresponsive patient and Dr. O working her magic.So many people had a hand in Mishka's survival and recovery. To each and every one of the awesome, dedicated and professional staff that played a hand in that little miracle, THANK YOU!We were very pleased with our relationship with these fine folks beforehand, but this incident forever cemented the bond between Mishka, us and the awesome folks at Ashcake Animal Clinic. Mishka is doing better now. Thank you seems so inadequate, but, until they invent better words to express our gratitude for Mishka's life, these words will have to serve for the present.You guys rock!

My 13 year old dog was very sick and I called at 5:30pm concerned and they said to bring him up immediately and the employees stayed until after 7pm to work to get his temperature to a safe level. I brought him in the next day for a follow up, and they did the exam in the back of my SUV while he laid comfortably on his dog bed. The vet tech, Lori, was so compassionate and genuinely happy to see him. Dr. Steve was awesome and I felt we got great care and our sweet dog is feeling better.

All in all, I was not happy that 1) the services I requested were not all scheduled 2) they expected a three year exam schedule vs an annual exam 3) I was told our cat 'seems' to have a condition and given no information for an actual diagnosis, treatment or at home care 4) They were late getting to us. 5) I was asked to hold down our cat while he was given a shot. 6) They did not call with the test results as they said they would 7) Most importantly.. I did not leave feeling confident about the health of our cat, especially his dental health.IMHO, we will be consulting another Veterinarian to discuss our cat's dental health ASAP. We want to do our best to provide for the health of our cat. He is part of our family.

I've taken my cat Mavis here twice, once for a checkup and then again to remove an tooth when the gums had become infected. I really like this place a lot.My interaction with the vet was great. She was very friendly, very gentle when handling and inspecting Mavis, answered my questions and made me feel very reassured that my cat was being well taken care of.The staff here is great too. They are very friendly, helpful and you can just tell they love animals. The couple of times i've called they either provided answers on the spot or called me back within an hour with information from the vet.They are also open until 6:30 PM during the week so you can squeeze in an appointment after normal working hours if need be.They also have an online portal where you can set up reminders, send questions to the vet, etc.

I learned of this place from my bosses as they take their pets here. It's about 30 minutes from the Richmond area, so it's a ways out but it's definitely worth it.The owners are husband and wife. You can tell the husband/doctor loves animals in his personality and the way he takes care of your pets. He told us what we shots we needed to get our dog based on our lifestyle and not every shot so they can "get money". We brought our 14 year old cat in today due to an eye irritation. This was our first visit to Ashcake Animal Clinic, as we have recently moved to the area. Our cat is normally a nervous wreck at the vet...but not this time! She was calm and there were no incidents of her getting upset. The veterinarian was gentle and spoke softly to her, and she never moved. We not only got an explanation for her eye condition, we also got detailed answers for some other concerns we have had. We are so pleased that we switched to Ashcake Animal Clinic and will definitely recommend them to anyone in need of vet services. We will be back!

I brought him in the next day for a follow up, and they did the exam in the back of my SUV while he laid comfortably on his dog bed. The vet tech, Lori, was so compassionate and genuinely happy to see him. Dr. Steve was awesome and I felt we got great care and our sweet dog is feeling better.

I've taken my cat Mavis here twice, once for a checkup and then again to remove an tooth when the gums had become infected. I really like this place a lot.My interaction with the vet was great. She was very friendly, very gentle when handling and inspecting Mavis, answered my questions and made me feel very reassured that my cat was being well taken care of.The staff here is great too. They are very friendly, helpful and you can just tell they love animals.
