While I have zero experience at other vet offices to compare to, this place is so great I have zero reasons to look elsewhere. I adopted my cat three months ago (first pet as an adult) and of course he got seriously sick weeks after I got him. That is to say, I have been to this office several times over the last couple months getting my furkid back to good health and have had nothing but great experiences. They always answer the phone within like 3 rings and are always pleasant. Every one of our visits has been followed by a follow up call the next day to check on everything. They are very prompt about updating records and notes on the app (VitusVet). I've dealt the most with Dr. Arzhang and he has been absolutely amazing. I brought my cat in to be pilled because i was failing miserably (reminder, first time fur parent), which is normally a quick visit handled by the techs but while there Dr. Arzhang unexpectedly came in to offer his time and check up on my cat. Cat wasnt eating, had crazy swollen lymph nodes and there was concern it was FIP so having the doc come in and check on us even though our appointment wasnt specifically with him was a clear indicator of how great this place is. I have been going to Caring Hands in Merrifield, and have always received excellent care for my cat. Sadly, I moved and this Caring Hands was just more convinent because it was around the corner. My cat has ongoing health problems, that he was born with and we have been dealing with his entire life. I asked them to get his records from the other Caring Hands, and to be treated how he always does, since that has been his treatment protocol for a long time. This hospital pushed other methods on me and made me feel if I did not do all of these extra things my cat would not get better. They pushed extra care to make more money. They offered a solution to try and stop early signs of sickness, by buying take home anti nausea pills for the future. I told them I would pay for those at a later date, since the vet visit was already more expensive than normal, and I was already purchasing medicine for him at that moment. Now a few months later my cat is showing signs of feeling sick. My husband went to the vet to pick up the anti nausea pills to try and combat how our cat is feeling, and they had no idea what he was talking about. They insisted he bring our cat in first before they give the medicine (to make more money of course) even though last time they offered a simple solution for the future. We will not be returning to this office, as the receptionists are always rude over the phone, and nobody seems knowledgeable of any questions or concerns we have. We have also been prescribed medicine for our kitten, and was told to go to Walmart or Costco’s pharmacy for pick up. We went to both, and neither of the stores carried the medicine. When we called Caring Hands in confusion, the receptionist once again had a poor attitude, and their answer was to go pick something else up over the counter. It wasted a huge portion of our day off, for something that we could have bought on our own to begin with. Read Less

We had one of them become quite sick recently and he was in and out of the hospital about every other day for 10 days. He was given the best care and he is now doing very well and has recovered completely. They are loving to our kitties and provide excellent care and keep us very much in the loop at every step. They have seen us through puppies (frozen peanut butter for the pup to make things easier), routine exams (their notification system is top notch), emergencies (they've seen me right away whenever I've needed), and unfortunately, having to say good-bye to one of our beloved dogs earlier this year (the amount of care and follow-up they provided during this time is making me tear up even as I write this). This was my first visit to Caring Hands for my newly adopted cat (routine health check). Everyone was super nice and welcoming. They were attentive and answered any questions/concerns I had. Dr. Vander recommended healthy food options for my cat and provided some advice. I chose this place because the first visit is complementary through Homeward Trails Animal Rescue but I plan on coming back even though it's not the closest vet to my house. We have been going to Caring Hands in Centreville for a long time.  The care has been okay over the years and they definitely are not cheap!!  The care our dog received recently has made us leave Caring Hands for good!!!  Our dog had an ear infection in her right ear. We saw Dr. Megan Clendenin.  Dr. Clendenin  treated our dog with an ear packing called Oti-Pak (at no time were we told about the possible side effects of Oti-Pak). Our dogs ear did not seem to get better after waiting several weeks.  We took her back for a recheck and another Dr. then treated BOTH ears with an Oti-Pak...AGAIN NO MENTION OF SIDE EFFECTS THAT OUR DOG COULD GO DEAF OR LOSE HER HEARING FROM THIS!!  If we had known, we never would have let the doctors use this on our dog!!!!  Almost immediately AFTER the second treatment we noticed our dog seemed like she couldn't hear.  I called the vet immediately and Dr. Clendenin said give it a few days/week to see if it gets better.  We waited and it did not get better.  I was VERY upset over this and called the office back on a Thursday morning to see if they could fit our dog in with Dr. Clendenin.  Dr. Clendenin treated our dog the first time and that is who we normally see.  The office said she was booked all day Thursday and all day Friday, but that she would speak with Dr. Clendenin and ask her if she could fit us in.  To my surprise, Dr. Clendenin could not find 5 - 10 mins to see our dog in those two days (this is after spending close to $300 for the two above mentioned appts).  They knew I was a basket case because of our dog's hearing situation, but she still wouldn't fit our dog in.  They said we could see a TECH!  A TECH???  This is a serious problem with her hearing and they are trying to push it off on a tech??!!!  I was very disappointed that Dr. Clendendin refused to see our dog!! I even spoke with the Office Manager and she also offered an appt with the TECH!  I told her this is too serious of a problem just to meet with a TECH!  They are insincere and could care less about your animal.  We are now taking our dog to another vet and I am hoping her hearing returns. They never warned me about this medicine...if you google Oti-Pak it clearly states everywhere what a danger this is to your dog!!! Gross negligence!! BEWARE of this vet!!!! Read Less

We've been taking our dog here for a year. The reception area is very nice and welcoming. They have blankets for your dogs, a coffee maker, and there's always HGTV on! More importantly the staff is very friendly and helpful and they did an excellent job giving our 7 lb dog 2 shots and taking a blood sample even though she was very squirmy! I still cannot talk much about it but I had about 48 hours from when the vets diagnosed my dog to when I had to put him down. The vets were very understanding, caring and careful to explain all costs before they were incurred at all points from when I first walked in the door to the end of the process. They worked around what I needed, got down on the floor with me so he could pass peacefully in my lap and hugged me after. A few days later I got a personal condolence note from the vet that was clearly not a stock message. While I am still hurting, this location did everything in their power to help and make this as easy a process as possible for me and my dog. We had an excellent experience. Dr. Robinson is an excellent doctor. We could tell he loves animals and his job. He was very gentle with Delilah, detailed and took his time with our miniature schnauzer. He offered us several treatment options, gave us the pricing and also suggested alternate options to purchase the recommended medications. We've always taken our dog and cat to caring hands in Alexandria and Arlington, but now that we moved to this area, we took our cat and saw Dr. Elizabeth Vander Vennet. MISTAKE. It was just a yearly checkup and she starts trying to push my husband to purchase that horrible Hill's diet nasty food. Just because she never heard of the food I feed my cat, which by the way, I have always done extensive research on to make sure I give her only the best, REAL meat. Here she's trying to push this food on us when it is full of disgusting, harmful ingredients. Who do you think you are, telling my husband that you never heard of the food so then you assume it's bad??? Get over yourself "Doctor". Everybody knows that the company pays off Veterinarians to sell that "food" to their clients. Unbelievable. Never going back to this horrible woman again. Anything to make an extra buck, as if you don't make enough money off of us as it is for these outrageously expensive appointments, when you essentially did NOTHING. Very professional staff at the Centreville location! We took our dog in for an apparent infected tooth. From the time we walked in we felt very comfortable and welcomed. After the evaluation our dog in fact had a infected tooth. The doctor explained that he might need additional teeth pulled due to the infection. They gave us an estimate of the needed surgery which was greatly appreciated. The surgery was a couple of days later in which was very successful. Our dog was very much in "Caring Hands"!!!! The Caring Hands Centreville location is a great hospital. They did a great job with my dog, Bandit yesterday. He had to have surgery to get 3 teeth pulled. After the surgery he didn't want to stay in the kennel so all the nurses took turns holding and loving on him until we could pick him up. I recently moved about 15 minutes away from Rockville and was looking for a new vet for my pets for a little while. Little did I know my kitty wanted to go to the vet sooner than she needed to and ate some plastic that got lodged in her intestines and needed to be surgically removed. I was able to get a same day, evening appointment which I know are hard to come by. The office is clean and modern and I love the fact that they keep the cat and dog areas separate. The receptionist was so, so nice and seemed genuinely interested and kind to my cat. The tech was nice and respected the fact that her records indicated she is not fond of the vet- so VERY true. The vet, Dr. Streck, was absolutely incredible. I cannot say enough good things about her. She was gentle and thorough, went over everything before it was done to make sure I was ok with it, including an estimate of the cost. But the really amazing thing was that when it was apparent that my cat needed surgery and the doctor had no surgery technicians available, another tech from one of the VA locations offered to drive up to help with the surgery. This is how dedicated they are and I simply could not thank them enough. My kitty is fine now and I will definitely be back with my dog for his annual appointment in a few months. A great clinic with very friendly staff.  We were very satisfied with the treatment and care our pups received while we lived in Centreville.  I like how they'd call the day after each visit to ask how our dogs were doing.  Follow-ups show they care about retaining patients and emphasize customer service.  The exam itself can be a little pricey, but I think that is how it is anywhere you go.  If we still lived here we would continue to go here, but unfortunately we are a little too far.  If you're looking for a caring staff who really lives up to the "caring hands" name, take your pet here! Without going into a long story, I ended up at Caring Hands twice this past week, and unfortunately, the 2nd time was to have my kitty euthanized. I cannot even begin to put into words the compassion, the understanding, the professionalism, that was exhibited by the entire staff at Caring Hands. From the moment we walked in the door and gave our name, the girls that greeted us and took us immediately to the room offered their condolences and assistance in whatever way they could. Dr. Ventociila (accompanied by Dr. Neumann), not only made us feel that we were making the right decision, they went at our pace, they explained every detail, they stayed with us, and they even cried with us. They all made the entire, heartbreaking experience, as bearable as it could possibly have been. When the time comes that I am ready to adopt another cat, I will not go anywhere else for their medical care! I've never written a Yelp review but feel compelled to do so after my experience with Caring Hands earlier today. Today we had to say goodbye to our beloved dog who has been battling oral cancer for a couple months. We had never seen this Vet before because we are from out of town. Things with our dog took a down turn quickly and we didn't have time to take him home. The practice was recommended to us by a relative in the area. After a discussion with us and examination of our dog, the Dr. confirmed that we were doing the most humane thing for our loyal friend. The doctors and technicians are fine.  My problem is with billing.  We were provided an estimate for surgery that we signed.  The actual bill was higher.  We were told they forgot to add items to the estimate.  We were forced to pay the higher bill by the practice manager.  Oh well.  There lose for a few extra bucks.  We will move on to another vet. As a Disabled Veteran with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Severe Cervical Spine Damage, and PTSD  sustained from an IED Blast in Iraq. I am fortunate enough to be a recipient of a specially trained Black Lab Service Dog trained by the awesome staff of Puppies Behind Bars which raises and trains these special dogs starting at 8 weeks of age, all the way up to 18 months when they are then they are selectively placed with Veterans who must have a rating such as mine after an intense screening process. So now that I've laid the groundwork on my specific condition and that I own one of these wonderful dogs, what's left for us is all the personal Heathcare, treatments, and proper diet and exercise of them (which I may add is quite extravagant and does NOT include any form of monetary allowance to assist us. Like every other dog, Russell requires all annual vaccinations and medical care as well. After extensive research and a referral from our previous Veternarian which is even farther away from our home, we decided to choose Caring Hands as the organization to take charge of his care.  Upon initially contacting them I found them to be extremely serious about their level of care and compassion for every animal they take in. Since Russell requires monthly visits for a special procedure he is literally there to see Doctors at this Centreville location. Each and every time we visit them there Russell is immediately welcomed as a true VIP and called by name to make him feel more comfortable. Every Vet Tech who works on him is always gentle and shows complete professionalism when dealing with him, even in the most awkward situations (Anal Gland Expressions) so I truly wish to thank each and everyone of them personally for how wonderful we are both treated here at this Animal Clinic! 2 stars is being generous. I took my dog there because he had a rash on his stomach, the doctor I saw, name started with an L suggested getting a fungal culture to test for a skin fungal infection and that we were going to give him medication to treat the rash for the fungal infection just in case. The doctor told us that after 3 days if there was no growth the chances of the rash being fungal would be low. After 3 days she called and said that there was no growth and the rash was not from a fungal infection. Then she called on 5 days later and told us my dog did in fact had the fungal infection, which by the way was extremely contagious. Needless to say I was extremely upset. We made plans to board my dog as I am getting married in less than a week but now no pet boarding is going to take him with a contagious fungal infection. I called the vet to voice my dismay and basically got the "I don't know what we can do for you." I will not be back, not happy at all with the care received. The people are nice but I think that's just a cover up for them not knowing what they are doing. Taking my dog back to Pender. I will pay much more but atleast the quality is better. Read Less

Too much to say in one review. The highlight of my experience was when the dog I fostered bit me (not his fault) and animal control asked, "Does this dog have antibiotic resistant MRSA?" The vet point blank lied to the police officer and said, "no" when I had the paperwork from their office (!!!!) that directly disputed it. Unbelievable. I went *next door* to Pets Supplies and not ONE person in there recommends Caring Hands. Each person I spoke to (both who work and live in the area) explained it was the absolute worst around and as others have said - overpriced. Aside from the incompetent vets employed here, the other staff were friendly, (mostly) helpful and generous with their affections for our foster. If they had a better vet staff, I'm sure they would be far more capable. Read Less

Also, I received a phone call the following morning to make sure my dog was doing ok which is something I have never experienced a vet doing before. The doctors are great and the staff are so friendly. My pit is very active and just wants to be loved, and the staff are always petting her, hugging her and giving her love. And the doctors are very good. My dog was throwing up all night, and I took her to the Vet and immediately they were able to determine what it was (my dog had eaten something that was causing her to vomit), they gave her an IV, medication and special food and she was as good as new. Within a day, my dog was back to her old self. The hours are great too and you send them an email and they respond usually within 24 to 48 hours I have noticed. Read Less

I brought my 12 year old rat terrier in for a major dental service. I was so scared to have my older dog under general anesthesia. But Drs. Clendenin and Vitulli discussed everything with me and let me accompany my pet in the operating room. I watched as they constantly checked his vitals and monitored his comfort, and mine. They are not only true professionals and experts in their field, but they also have a great deal of compassion for humans and their pets. Caring Hands Animal Hospital is a wonderful Vet Office in Centreville, Va. My boyfriend and I were referred here from his grandmother who takes her pets there. Sadly, one of her pets passed away recently. The staff was always really good to her dog and was very gentle and accommodating to us when the dog did pass. We take our puppy, named Rylie, there for all her check-ups, shots, and sick visits. The entire staff from the receptionists, techs, and the vets are super nice and explain everything very well. The staff beginning with the front desk, to the care received from the doctor's has been exceptional. Everyone is always in good spirits from the time you walk through the door until you leave. Most importantly, you are never rushed during an exam, and they give you the best advice for your pet regarding any medical issue encountered. Caring Hands of Centreville has provided the best care to our two dogs Dixie and Cane for the past three years.  The staff beginning with the front desk, to the care received from the doctor's has been exceptional.  Everyone is always in good spirits from the time you walk through the door until you leave.  They contact us within twenty four hours after any visit to ensure our pet is doing well from the visit.  Most importantly, you are never rushed during an exam, and they give you the best advice for your pet regarding any medical issue encountered.I cannot say enough about everyone, and the two doctors we have seen consistently are Dr. Clendenin and Dr. Streck.  Both are very knowledgeable, compassionate, and genuinely care as if your pet was their own.Some reviews have stated they had issues with the waiting area, or having to wait a few minutes for a tech or doctor to start the appointment.  My response to this, isn't the care of your pet the most important, and reason why you are there?  I thought so.I would recommend this location to anyone who is seeking to receive exceptional care for their pets. My dog has been to multiple vets over the years, as I have moved regularly and he requires frequent vet visits. Due to a significant health condition (that he is now recovered from), my dog had been subjected to uncomfortable procedures and once had to be left overnight so the vets could monitor his condition. He is now skittish of vets and will try to hide behind me or furniture in the room. Other vets have laughed it off and had their vet techs restrain him in order to do a full examination. In contrast, Dr. Dillon has been extremely gentle and patient. She will approach my dog carefully, speak to him in a soft voice, and even let him inspect any instruments that she will be using (like stethoscope). She also uses an ear thermometer, which is a nice change of pace from the butt thermometer that every animal hates - this is just another small way that the animals are afforded a measure of comfort and dignity. Throughout the examination, she will pet my dog and continue to speak in a soft voice. And afterwards, he is given treats! This truly embodies the philosophy of "caring hands" and I am immensely grateful to have found a vet that makes my dog feel safe. Read Less

Not a bad vet.  I agree with some of the others... every single time i have an appointment they move me into a room and i end up waiting 15 min + staring at my cell phone until a tech comes in.  Once a tech comes in then another long wait until the vet comes in.  Once the vet comes in then another long wait until the tech comes in.  Over all i am satisfied with the care my dog has received there.  The only really annoying issue I had was the first few visits i had there i had just adopted her and had not decided on a name yet... and every single time i would show up for an appointment they made it a point that i needed to name her soon.  Treat my dog for her shots dont tell me I need to name her or when i have to name her.  This vet is right across the street from me so it is extremely convenient, but if i have any more annoying experiences i will be taking my dog to the animal hospital in the westfield plaza that just opened up. Our pets have been patients of Caring Hands for the past 16 years, pretty much one of their first customers when they opened in Centreville.  They have been with us through thick and thin, several dogs, and a few cats.  We have always loved working with Dr. Vitulli, who opened the original practice back around 1996.  In recent years, we have seen other vets at the practice, and have never had any problems with any of them.  Dr. Vitulli will always be our favorite, though!The facility is clean, modern, large, and very attractive.  They are always up on the very latest procedures and have state-of-the-art equipment.  They are a bit pricey, I think, but I like to think it is worth it because of the care my animals are getting.  If you need an appointment, you can usually get in within the day.  They have started something new, however, which I'm not real fond of -- if you want to insure you get an appointment same day, they charge you an extra fee for an "emergency appointment."  They never used to do that, but I suppose the practice has grown and they can't squeeze everyone in who calls and wants to come in that day.I lost a pet in February of this year and it was a complete shock.  We brought our dog in because of what we thought was a minor issue, and it turned out to be an advanced form of cancer.  They recommended we have him put to sleep right then and there.  It was really rough for us, but they were extremely compassionate and kind.  They have a special room for saying "goodbye," which is beyond sad, but it was very private and we had all the time we needed to say our farewells.  I feel like Caring Hands is part of our extended family for all the care they have provided over the years.  No reason to go elsewhere. I have been visiting Caring Hands since 1997. The staff is excellent and they really care about your pet! Wellness and prevention are key and they are open 7 days a week. They have been there for me with several cats and several health issues such as kidney issues, bahavior problems, hyperthyroidism, and now diabetes. I can always depend on Caring Hands! Read Less
