We took my boy in on a Friday to get his shots updated before neutering him the following Monday. So Monday rolls around and we take him in for his appointment. 1.5 hours later the Vet calls to say that his shots aren't up to date. Now we have to take him back Friday to get him neutered. Thank you for wasting what little time I have off work with the lack of attention to detail. Please do not make this same mistake with someone else and waste their time as well. Makes me nervous to have his procedure done here but we've already bought into the plan they offer. Read Less

On Monday Oct. 29, 2018 I attempted to schedule a follow-up appointment for my dog at her regular Banfield location the receptionist kept cutting me off when I tried to explain things to her and even put me on hold for 10min. I had been trying to have her evaluated by her vet at our home location for a week but kept getting referred to the Cove and Blue Pearl animal ER. Last week I took her to the Cove twice and they instructed me to schedule a follow-up with her vet so she can get refills on her pain meds. Since my location refused to schedule I called the Greenbrier location. Let me tell you,  the staff there went above and beyond for me. Jas at the front desk placed me on hold to ask the vet if I could bring her in. They accepted me and treated my baby with such care. Unfortunately her condition was so bad and prognosis was horrible,  we decided to have her put to sleep . Dr. Gonzalez and the vet nurse (Katy or Kelly- not sure of her name as of now) were so compassionate and treated my Chloe with such respect. They both teared up after she was asleep.  I thank everyone at this location, who interacted with Chloe on her last day on this earth. Read Less

My dog just got spayed and microchiped everything went fine but when I went online to fill out her info for the microchip I found out that there is a yearly fee for the microchip that I was NEVER informed about and the pamphlet says nothing about a fee either. I was pretty upset and called Banfield they told me that I dont have to renew but my info wont pop up and theres will so that means if someone finds my dog then they will have to contact Banfield and then they have to get in touch with me, who knows how long that could take. I got the microchip so my info would pop up right away and my dog would be returned right away, not get the runaround. My other dog was neutured and microchiped at the spca and all I had to do was go online and fill out my info and he is good to go for the rest of his life unless my info changes. Pretty upset because if I would have known that I would have got her microchiped elsewhere. Read Less

I want to start off by saying how I've never encountered any issues or difficulties with Banfield in the past. I have 3 dogs and they all have plans at Banfield. My experienced with vets in Miami, FL were fantastic. When I walked into the Greenbier Banfield in Chesapeake Virginia, to inquire about my pets, I was ignored and had to wait for the person at the front desk to attend other people that walked in after me. And waited until she finished helping them. Not even one person, but two people! I then proceed to ask for appointments for my pets, and come to find out they can't accommodate all of my pets, I would have to do separate appointments on separate days. In Miami, I never had any issues. And Miami is a VERY busy Banfield. No matter how packed they were, they always made accommodations for their clients. I made appointments for all of my pets for the same day, and was seen by the doctors with no problem at all. In Greenbrier, it nearly took the girl at the front desk 15 minutes to look up appointments and not give me anything until end of NOVEMBER. I don't understand how there are no appointments available until November. So I ended up having no choice but to make a drop-off appointment despite the fact that I don't know any doctors in this location, and had to trust a perfect stranger with my babies. I come to drop off one of my babies for them to tell me that I had to pay for that visit's vaccine, when I had clearly spoken to the front desk person twice (in person & over phone) to make sure the date/month of appointment was ok for my dogs medical checkup & vaccines. Evidently, it was NOT the correct month for my pets visit after confirming over the phone & in person with them, and on top of driving 40 minutes to get to this location, and instead I have to wait til next month. All in all, the staff so far were not very helpful at all, or respectful for that matter. However, I will try a different location of Banfield in Hampton Roads, otherwise, I will not be renewing all of my pet's wellness/active plans and never going to Banfield again. Read Less

Not sure why all the terrible reviews. I can't say enough good about Dr. Kelly, Dr Kite (no longer there) and a few other doctors (so sorry, can't remember their names at the moment). I've lost two Boxers to cancer and the entire staff was so absolutely amazing to all of us! Allowed me multiple emergency visits, gave us unlimited time with my pets before and after we had to have them put to sleep. Just incredible compassion!! I'd like to see all the people complaining about the Wellness plans price to go to a "regular" vet and pay out of pocket for all the testing and shots your pet needs. I can promise it won't even be close to equaling $35 a month! (approx $420 a year). You'll pay close to that in ONE visit anywhere else!! Also, schedule your appointments ahead of time. Very rarely have I had a problem getting an appointment. Plus you can check the other locations if it's THAT urgent. I gave four stars because the front desk would rather answer the phone than tend to who's standing in front of them. They'll stop you mid-sentence to answer the phone. They need someone on staff to JUST answer calls!! Also, there's one girl in particular who works the desk who is SO unfriendly! She talks down to people like they're stupid and not to mention sloppy. Perhaps they could stick her in the back to answer the phones since she seems to hate her job so much. Read Less

I feel this is the better Banfield between chesapeake and the two in Virginia Beach that I've been to. The staff is always friendly no matter how busy they are. The vet techs appear to enjoy what they do and the animals they help care for. My respect for the staff and the veterinarians here significantly rose after my Jack Russell Terrier was diagnosed with Lymphoma. During his last few weeks of life, Dr. Kelly was so kind and accommodating. When it came to putting him down, he stayed with us and patiently waited as we cried and said our goodbyes. I will never forget him and the signifant role he played! He truly was such a bright light during those dark times. Now I bring both my Boton Terriers to him and he is always so soft spoken, humble, respectful and kind. I hope he doesn't leave the Greenbrier Banfield!!! Read Less

My babies were scared at first but the staff definitely made them feel better. I'm so glad I signed up for one of the plans it saved me so much money and I know my pets have the best care. I have four dogs currently and our oldest dog has had a bad experience with vets in the past so we told the staff working there not to take his muzzle off because he was terrified of being there. Instead, they took his muzzle off to brush his teeth and he bit one of them and gave them 5-15 stitches. Then we caught them squeezing his head between a door and a wall to forcibly give him vaccinations. I will never go there again. Read Less

I'm not sure why every single person who works here takes lunch at the same time but I will be rethinking bringing my cats here at all simply because they have previously told me that I can bring my cats here any time for a nail trim and they would get me right in. I waited 40 minutes today for my cat to get a 2 minute nail trim because every single employee was at lunch. Not happy!!!! Read Less

I'm not quite sure why there are such negative reviews... this place is pretty great considering how busy they always are. You're taking your pet to a vet that's in a very busy area so how do you not expect to wait a little bit on the phone or wait a few days for an appointment. The staff are always working hard and never just sitting there doing nothing. It's probably really stressful trying to answer 100 phone calls, trying to check pets in at the same time, booking appointments, giving meds, etc. They do a damn good job as far as I've noticed. There's a few staff members who aren't the nicest but there's also a lot of staff who are super friendly. I'm not sure if Steph still works there but she was always so professional and polite and I can't thank her enough for how great she's been. I cant imagine taking my dog anywhere else. I have been taking my 2 dogs to Banfield on Greenbrier Pkwy for nearly 10 years now and always loved the care we received there. The staff and vets treat our pets wonderfully and know them by name. We recently moved to Norfolk and still continued to go to Chesapeake. The Wellness plans have been really helpful, especially when we have to go in for an un-planned visit. It's covered. All the vaccines are covered. It's a peace of mind that I can take my dog in for a visit and know that all or at least most of the cost is already paid for. That being said and the reason I only gave them 3 stars is because as of late, I can't even get in for an appointment when we need one. They always tell me it's going to be A MONTH AND A HALF to get an appointment with them. Unless of course I do the "drop-off" appointment. That's where you drop off your pet and they sit in a kennel all day and the vet examines them between appointments throughout the day and you pick them up that afternoon. I am not a fan of this practice and it seems they are purposely blacking-out dates specifically to push people towards the drop-off. I pay A LOT of money in veterinary care in Wellness Plans . A LOT! And for that I would like the service that comes with it. I want to be able to get to know the veterinarians and staff taking care of my pets, ask questions and understand what was done, what the process was, what they were looking for, etc Especially when I'm trying to make an appointment for a problem rather than just a routine check-up and vaccines. I realize that our culture is becoming one of "convenience". And that's nice for when my car or maybe cell phone breaks, but for my pets...I want personalized service. And I started no longer receiving that at Greenbrier. When they told me it was going to be a month & a half before they could get my dog in for a lesion on his face, I told them "no thanks" and immediately called the Banfield on Military Highway where not only did they make an appointment for me within a week, they put my name on a cancellation list and called me within the afternoon to try to get me in with a sooner appointment. So we've officially transferred our records to the Norfolk office and we'll see how that goes. I don't want to leave Banfield entirely, but I would like better service for my pets. I have other family members who also have their pets on Wellness plans and have been having the same problems. They've had to go to other offices when they've needed something sooner than 2 months out. I loved the people there, but the service has gone downhill recently and it's become so impersonal marketed as "convenience." I hope it's gets fixed and doesn't spread to other offices or I'll have to leave Banfield and I don't want to do that. Read Less

This is one of the absolute worst vets. We began taking our dog when she was a puppy and signed up for the wellness plan. For the 1st year we were somewhat pleased despite it always being over crowded, understaffed, and filthy we were pleased with the vets who saw our little one (yes, vets, plural, we never once saw the same vet twice which was a little frustrating) so despite the negatives, we stayed. Some of the staff who USED to work there were very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable, while the other 1/2 of the staff members are rude, impatient, unkind, and severely lacking in customer service training. Every single time I have called I have been put on hold for over 10+ min which I understand if its busy but, never checking in once to say please continue to hold? When I finally get through to someone they are snippy rude and act bothered to do their job. I have NEVER been able to get an appointment on a day or time we need even when I've given a 3 or 4 day range....I've only ever called twice in 2 years for a sick visit, and both times they've told me they are booked for the week and even when I call 1st thing in the am they say there are no more same day visits left. Really?! Why am I paying monthly for a service I can't utilize? I always have to call and remind them that its time for shot updates or a physical. This is my first ever negative review of a business but I strongly feel anyone considering this vet or their wellness plan should look elsewhere unless wasting money, dealing with rude staff, and never getting an appointment is ok with you. Huge disappointment and we will be calling corporate canceling our plan and going to a new vet. Grateful to the few friendly staff members and vets (who have mostly all seemed to transfer or quit) but we will surely not miss this pet hospital. Read Less

They were always very busy but the staff is friendly. Took the man dog to the vet in the appointment started right on time. The veterinarian assistant in veterinarian or through an expeditious. No problem on that front.  My problem is in their delivery of the health plan. I felt it was a bit of a bait and switch.  I have had a plan for my dog for eight years. Due to extensive travel my plan lapsed. I told him to set me back up on the plan and ask them how much. They gave me the price and I signed up and paid for the plan. What they failed to tell me was there was a "membership fee" on top of the plan fee. They inform me of this after I had signed the contract and paid for it. I asked them why they didn't disclose this earlier and the lady had no answer other than everybody complains about this. Seems to me to be a bit ridiculous to pay them to sign up for a plan where I'm going to end up paying them. Well I suppose once this plan runs out I'll have to go with my feet. Read Less

Stay Away! They will do everything they can to get you to pay for a wellness plan. They will state free unlimited vet visits. Just pray your pet never gets sick because they will claim for weeks they have no available appointments for your animal. Then they will send you to a vet emergency room and it will cost you a lot of money. Just think 30/mo is 360 for the year and that covers the same stuff that most other vets will charge 50 for visit. They will also state your medicine is discounted drastically where a discount on marked up medicine is no cheaper then any where else. They also did not give my pet a rabies shot stating his was still good from his puppy time. When I switched back to my original vet I had to pay triple for his missed rabies shot. Also I had him neutered there for a grand total of 550 once all said an done. Also when they neutered him they over medicated him with antibiotics which is probably the main reason my pet got a serious ear infection. Understaffed overpriced and a fake smile knowing they are about to rob you when you sign the contract they can break but you cannot cancel. Read Less

Moved back here recently (used this Banfield before in 2005-6).  Used Banfield's in three other states/locations - all top-notch, clean, COURTEOUS, professional, and always remembered me and my pet.I think this Banfield, however, has been outgrown by Chesapeake.  It is too small, under-staffed, and (I believe) over-worked.  For the first time, I am nervous about my Banfield plan.  I try to stay level-headed everywhere.  It takes a bit to push my buttons.  This place did.  I handed the staff member the paperwork from a comprehensive exam completed last month from the last location.  "Looks like he needs all the shots."  No sir - as you can see right here, he is all caught-up. He JUST went through a complete series - I just need to transfer his Primary Care provider.  (Apparently, something was wrong with "the system").  Okay... Just then, a visibly shaken gentleman comes in with his dog - "He's sick and needs to see a Doc.  I'm very worried."  The reply?  "Do you have an appointment?"  (YGBSM).  He has a Banfield Plan, but did't have an appointment ...and was directed to the Pet Emergency Hospital ($) down the street.  "I can put you on a list in case someone cancels."  ...sheesh.  The poor guys was distraught.  I/we pay Banfield HOW MUCH per month and apparently I have to SCHEDULE when my pet gets sick?  "We're really only a Wellness Center."  WHAT?!  It says Banfield F-ing PET  HOSPITAL!  YOU EMPLOY @#!% DOCTORS!  When your pet is sick, you take your pet to a ____ PET HOSPITAL!  The attitude was as if seeing your pet was doing YOU (the guy that pays THEM) a favor.  This was just over-the-top impersonal and downright depressing.  The Banfield "people" really need to have a look at this place. I am so glad that a friend of mine recommended this place because they are absolutely wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and kind from the moment that I walked in. I took my three month old puppy there for her shots and I had my 18 month old son along with. They loved up both of them! They took such great care of my puppy and showed so much kindness in dealing with her and my son. They were wonderful. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. :). Read Less

The doctors are always great which is the reason I gave this place a second , third , and even fourth chance. If you want the same Doctors (they rotate locations) go to the Banfield on Laskin--much better service with a cleaner environment for you and your pet! Read Less

I have had a many year association with the Banfield Pet Hospital located in Greenbrier in the City of Chesapeake, VA.I have always taken pets there (3 Yorkies who have passed over the rainbow bridge) and my current pet. The staff at this location are very personable, considerate and professional. The staff has always been concerned for my pets and involve me in their care and health management. I really appreciate their staff of caring and devoted front desk, Vet assistants and Veterinarian personnel.In my opinion you can place your trust and your pets welfare in no better hands.Art G. I am Sharon S.'s husband from a previous review, and I received a voice mail on my cell phone from Lisa which was fairly condescending. She suggested that if I was listening to the message to pick up so she doesn't have to call back again, as if I was listening on an answering machine while she was talking. I was actually asleep, due to my unorthodox work schedule. Either way, she no longer has to worry about calling back because I don't have a desire to speak with her. There is nothing she can say that will convince me to be a Banfield customer. Regardless of price rates, the things that I REQUIRE of veterinarians I use is having a passion for animals and to have some empathy or compassion for them, which Banfield showed be neither. I don't care if they offered to neuter my puppy for free, I wouldn't go anywhere near that place with him. I took my dog to Acredale Veterinarian, where they treated us with respect and showed genuine concern for my dog's well being. They gave him what he needed and we were happy with their service, so we scheduled his neutering with them. I suggest that Banfield uses this as a training opportunity to treat potential customers better because they will not be able to retain me as a customer. I cannot in good conscience refer anyone, friend or foe, to Banfield. The big concerns: They administered a FELV on our kitten when she was too young for it to be accurate. The Vet even acknowledged that she wasn't old enough for the test after we found out and brought it to their attention. Why would you administer a test knowing it wasn't accurate? Then they refused to let me check on the kitten when she was spayed. Mind you, I was the one to drop her off and sign the papers to admit her. As far as I know, there aren't HIPPA laws for animals. They unnecessary traumatized our kitten. During a visit for a worm treatment (she hadn't had worms in months but they suggested it so we thought it was necessary) and wellness exam they probed her bottom twice: once for a temperature (why not the ear?) and again for a fecal sample. A week later I called for the results and was told they never ran the test because they didn't collect a sample. My husband and I both witnessed the sample being taken and fecal matter on the stick. Several other negatives: We saw signs all over the office telling clients to choose their PCP (primary care physician) and yet after we did so we never saw her. The wait is extremely long for a five minute visit and I never got the feeling that the Vet was thorough enough. At least half the time I call the office I'm hung up after being put on hold. Positive: They were quick to give us a credit for the FELV incident and gave us a free fecal test because of that matter. I was pleased that they reacted quickly to these concerns but in the end it didn't matter. Both my husband and I have come to distrust Banfield and their Vets. I honestly feel that if we had to bring our kitten in for anything serious (or maybe even routine!) it might cost her life. I know that sounds dramatic, but if they don't know when a FELV test should be given, what else don't they know? I cannot bring our kitten back to this place after our experience. Yes they've saved us money on vet bills and reached out for each issue but the issues we had were not worth it and should never have happened. I'd much rather deal with a private Vet who knows what they're doing than deal with Banfield. Read Less

So Monday rolls around and we take him in for his appointment. 1.5 hours later the Vet calls to say that his shots aren't up to date. Now we have to take him back Friday to get him neutered. Thank you for wasting what little time I have off work with the lack of attention to detail. Please do not make this same mistake with someone else and waste their time as well. On Monday Oct. 29, 2018 I attempted to schedule a follow-up appointment for my dog at her regular Banfield location the receptionist kept cutting me off when I tried to explain things to her and even put me on hold for 10min. I had been trying to have her evaluated by her vet at our home location for a week but kept getting referred to the Cove and Blue Pearl animal ER. Last week I took her to the Cove twice and they instructed me to schedule a follow-up with her vet so she can get refills on her pain meds. Since my location refused to schedule I called the Greenbrier location. Let me tell you,  the staff there went above and beyond for me. Jas at the front desk placed me on hold to ask the vet if I could bring her in. They accepted me and treated my baby with such care. Unfortunately her condition was so bad and prognosis was horrible,  we decided to have her put to sleep . Dr. Gonzalez and the vet nurse (Katy or Kelly- not sure of her name as of now) were so compassionate and treated my Chloe with such respect. They both teared up after she was asleep.  I thank everyone at this location, who interacted with Chloe on her last day on this earth. Read Less

I was pretty upset and called Banfield they told me that I dont have to renew but my info wont pop up and theres will so that means if someone finds my dog then they will have to contact Banfield and then they have to get in touch with me, who knows how long that could take. I got the microchip so my info would pop up right away and my dog would be returned right away, not get the runaround. My other dog was neutured and microchiped at the spca and all I had to do was go online and fill out my info and he is good to go for the rest of his life unless my info changes. I want to start off by saying how I've never encountered any issues or difficulties with Banfield in the past. I have 3 dogs and they all have plans at Banfield. My experienced with vets in Miami, FL were fantastic. When I walked into the Greenbier Banfield in Chesapeake Virginia, to inquire about my pets, I was ignored and had to wait for the person at the front desk to attend other people that walked in after me. And waited until she finished helping them. Not even one person, but two people! I then proceed to ask for appointments for my pets, and come to find out they can't accommodate all of my pets, I would have to do separate appointments on separate days. In Miami, I never had any issues. And Miami is a VERY busy Banfield. No matter how packed they were, they always made accommodations for their clients. I made appointments for all of my pets for the same day, and was seen by the doctors with no problem at all. In Greenbrier, it nearly took the girl at the front desk 15 minutes to look up appointments and not give me anything until end of NOVEMBER. I don't understand how there are no appointments available until November. So I ended up having no choice but to make a drop-off appointment despite the fact that I don't know any doctors in this location, and had to trust a perfect stranger with my babies. I come to drop off one of my babies for them to tell me that I had to pay for that visit's vaccine, when I had clearly spoken to the front desk person twice (in person & over phone) to make sure the date/month of appointment was ok for my dogs medical checkup & vaccines. Evidently, it was NOT the correct month for my pets visit after confirming over the phone & in person with them, and on top of driving 40 minutes to get to this location, and instead I have to wait til next month. All in all, the staff so far were not very helpful at all, or respectful for that matter. However, I will try a different location of Banfield in Hampton Roads, otherwise, I will not be renewing all of my pet's wellness/active plans and never going to Banfield again. Read Less

I've lost two Boxers to cancer and the entire staff was so absolutely amazing to all of us! Allowed me multiple emergency visits, gave us unlimited time with my pets before and after we had to have them put to sleep. Just incredible compassion!! I'd like to see all the people complaining about the Wellness plans price to go to a "regular" vet and pay out of pocket for all the testing and shots your pet needs. I can promise it won't even be close to equaling $35 a month! (approx $420 a year). You'll pay close to that in ONE visit anywhere else!! Also, schedule your appointments ahead of time. Very rarely have I had a problem getting an appointment. Plus you can check the other locations if it's THAT urgent. I gave four stars because the front desk would rather answer the phone than tend to who's standing in front of them. They'll stop you mid-sentence to answer the phone. They need someone on staff to JUST answer calls!! Also, there's one girl in particular who works the desk who is SO unfriendly! She talks down to people like they're stupid and not to mention sloppy. I feel this is the better Banfield between chesapeake and the two in Virginia Beach that I've been to. The staff is always friendly no matter how busy they are. The vet techs appear to enjoy what they do and the animals they help care for. My respect for the staff and the veterinarians here significantly rose after my Jack Russell Terrier was diagnosed with Lymphoma. During his last few weeks of life, Dr. Kelly was so kind and accommodating. When it came to putting him down, he stayed with us and patiently waited as we cried and said our goodbyes. I will never forget him and the signifant role he played! He truly was such a bright light during those dark times. Now I bring both my Boton Terriers to him and he is always so soft spoken, humble, respectful and kind. I hope he doesn't leave the Greenbrier Banfield!!! Read Less

Instead, they took his muzzle off to brush his teeth and he bit one of them and gave them 5-15 stitches. I'm not sure why every single person who works here takes lunch at the same time but I will be rethinking bringing my cats here at all simply because they have previously told me that I can bring my cats here any time for a nail trim and they would get me right in. I waited 40 minutes today for my cat to get a 2 minute nail trim because every single employee was at lunch. Not happy!!!! Read Less

You're taking your pet to a vet that's in a very busy area so how do you not expect to wait a little bit on the phone or wait a few days for an appointment. The staff are always working hard and never just sitting there doing nothing. It's probably really stressful trying to answer 100 phone calls, trying to check pets in at the same time, booking appointments, giving meds, etc. They do a damn good job as far as I've noticed. There's a few staff members who aren't the nicest but there's also a lot of staff who are super friendly. I'm not sure if Steph still works there but she was always so professional and polite and I can't thank her enough for how great she's been. I cant imagine taking my dog anywhere else. I have been taking my 2 dogs to Banfield on Greenbrier Pkwy for nearly 10 years now and always loved the care we received there. The staff and vets treat our pets wonderfully and know them by name. We recently moved to Norfolk and still continued to go to Chesapeake. The Wellness plans have been really helpful, especially when we have to go in for an un-planned visit. It's covered. All the vaccines are covered. It's a peace of mind that I can take my dog in for a visit and know that all or at least most of the cost is already paid for. That being said and the reason I only gave them 3 stars is because as of late, I can't even get in for an appointment when we need one. They always tell me it's going to be A MONTH AND A HALF to get an appointment with them. Unless of course I do the "drop-off" appointment. That's where you drop off your pet and they sit in a kennel all day and the vet examines them between appointments throughout the day and you pick them up that afternoon. I am not a fan of this practice and it seems they are purposely blacking-out dates specifically to push people towards the drop-off. I pay A LOT of money in veterinary care in Wellness Plans . A LOT! And for that I would like the service that comes with it. I want to be able to get to know the veterinarians and staff taking care of my pets, ask questions and understand what was done, what the process was, what they were looking for, etc Especially when I'm trying to make an appointment for a problem rather than just a routine check-up and vaccines. I realize that our culture is becoming one of "convenience". And that's nice for when my car or maybe cell phone breaks, but for my pets...I want personalized service. And I started no longer receiving that at Greenbrier. When they told me it was going to be a month & a half before they could get my dog in for a lesion on his face, I told them "no thanks" and immediately called the Banfield on Military Highway where not only did they make an appointment for me within a week, they put my name on a cancellation list and called me within the afternoon to try to get me in with a sooner appointment. So we've officially transferred our records to the Norfolk office and we'll see how that goes. I don't want to leave Banfield entirely, but I would like better service for my pets. I have other family members who also have their pets on Wellness plans and have been having the same problems. They've had to go to other offices when they've needed something sooner than 2 months out. I loved the people there, but the service has gone downhill recently and it's become so impersonal marketed as "convenience." I hope it's gets fixed and doesn't spread to other offices or I'll have to leave Banfield and I don't want to do that. Read Less

For the 1st year we were somewhat pleased despite it always being over crowded, understaffed, and filthy we were pleased with the vets who saw our little one (yes, vets, plural, we never once saw the same vet twice which was a little frustrating) so despite the negatives, we stayed. Some of the staff who USED to work there were very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable, while the other 1/2 of the staff members are rude, impatient, unkind, and severely lacking in customer service training. Every single time I have called I have been put on hold for over 10+ min which I understand if its busy but, never checking in once to say please continue to hold? When I finally get through to someone they are snippy rude and act bothered to do their job. I have NEVER been able to get an appointment on a day or time we need even when I've given a 3 or 4 day range....I've only ever called twice in 2 years for a sick visit, and both times they've told me they are booked for the week and even when I call 1st thing in the am they say there are no more same day visits left. Really?! Why am I paying monthly for a service I can't utilize? I always have to call and remind them that its time for shot updates or a physical. This is my first ever negative review of a business but I strongly feel anyone considering this vet or their wellness plan should look elsewhere unless wasting money, dealing with rude staff, and never getting an appointment is ok with you. Huge disappointment and we will be calling corporate canceling our plan and going to a new vet. Grateful to the few friendly staff members and vets (who have mostly all seemed to transfer or quit) but we will surely not miss this pet hospital. Read Less

No problem on that front.  My problem is in their delivery of the health plan. I felt it was a bit of a bait and switch.  I have had a plan for my dog for eight years. Due to extensive travel my plan lapsed. I told him to set me back up on the plan and ask them how much. They gave me the price and I signed up and paid for the plan. What they failed to tell me was there was a "membership fee" on top of the plan fee. They inform me of this after I had signed the contract and paid for it. I asked them why they didn't disclose this earlier and the lady had no answer other than everybody complains about this. Seems to me to be a bit ridiculous to pay them to sign up for a plan where I'm going to end up paying them. Well I suppose once this plan runs out I'll have to go with my feet. Read Less

Stay Away! They will do everything they can to get you to pay for a wellness plan. They will state free unlimited vet visits. Just pray your pet never gets sick because they will claim for weeks they have no available appointments for your animal. Then they will send you to a vet emergency room and it will cost you a lot of money. Just think 30/mo is 360 for the year and that covers the same stuff that most other vets will charge 50 for visit. They will also state your medicine is discounted drastically where a discount on marked up medicine is no cheaper then any where else. They also did not give my pet a rabies shot stating his was still good from his puppy time. When I switched back to my original vet I had to pay triple for his missed rabies shot. Also I had him neutered there for a grand total of 550 once all said an done. Also when they neutered him they over medicated him with antibiotics which is probably the main reason my pet got a serious ear infection. Moved back here recently (used this Banfield before in 2005-6).  Used Banfield's in three other states/locations - all top-notch, clean, COURTEOUS, professional, and always remembered me and my pet.I think this Banfield, however, has been outgrown by Chesapeake.  It is too small, under-staffed, and (I believe) over-worked.  For the first time, I am nervous about my Banfield plan.  I try to stay level-headed everywhere.  It takes a bit to push my buttons.  This place did.  I handed the staff member the paperwork from a comprehensive exam completed last month from the last location.  "Looks like he needs all the shots."  No sir - as you can see right here, he is all caught-up. He JUST went through a complete series - I just need to transfer his Primary Care provider.  (Apparently, something was wrong with "the system").  Okay... Just then, a visibly shaken gentleman comes in with his dog - "He's sick and needs to see a Doc.  I'm very worried."  The reply?  "Do you have an appointment?"  (YGBSM).  He has a Banfield Plan, but did't have an appointment ...and was directed to the Pet Emergency Hospital ($) down the street.  "I can put you on a list in case someone cancels."  ...sheesh.  The poor guys was distraught.  I/we pay Banfield HOW MUCH per month and apparently I have to SCHEDULE when my pet gets sick?  "We're really only a Wellness Center."  WHAT?!  It says Banfield F-ing PET  HOSPITAL!  YOU EMPLOY @#!% DOCTORS!  When your pet is sick, you take your pet to a ____ PET HOSPITAL!  The attitude was as if seeing your pet was doing YOU (the guy that pays THEM) a favor.  This was just over-the-top impersonal and downright depressing.  The Banfield "people" really need to have a look at this place. I am so glad that a friend of mine recommended this place because they are absolutely wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and kind from the moment that I walked in. I took my three month old puppy there for her shots and I had my 18 month old son along with. They loved up both of them! They took such great care of my puppy and showed so much kindness in dealing with her and my son. They were wonderful. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. :). Read Less

This location of Banfield has the worst customer service of them all. Every time I bring a pet in the staff is rude and the facility is dirty. The doctors are always great which is the reason I gave this place a second , third , and even fourth chance. If you want the same Doctors (they rotate locations) go to the Banfield on Laskin--much better service with a cleaner environment for you and your pet! Read Less

I have had a many year association with the Banfield Pet Hospital located in Greenbrier in the City of Chesapeake, VA.I have always taken pets there (3 Yorkies who have passed over the rainbow bridge) and my current pet. The staff at this location are very personable, considerate and professional. The staff has always been concerned for my pets and involve me in their care and health management. I really appreciate their staff of caring and devoted front desk, Vet assistants and Veterinarian personnel.In my opinion you can place your trust and your pets welfare in no better hands.Art G. I am Sharon S.'s husband from a previous review, and I received a voice mail on my cell phone from Lisa which was fairly condescending. She suggested that if I was listening to the message to pick up so she doesn't have to call back again, as if I was listening on an answering machine while she was talking. I was actually asleep, due to my unorthodox work schedule. Either way, she no longer has to worry about calling back because I don't have a desire to speak with her. There is nothing she can say that will convince me to be a Banfield customer. Regardless of price rates, the things that I REQUIRE of veterinarians I use is having a passion for animals and to have some empathy or compassion for them, which Banfield showed be neither. I don't care if they offered to neuter my puppy for free, I wouldn't go anywhere near that place with him. I took my dog to Acredale Veterinarian, where they treated us with respect and showed genuine concern for my dog's well being. They gave him what he needed and we were happy with their service, so we scheduled his neutering with them. I suggest that Banfield uses this as a training opportunity to treat potential customers better because they will not be able to retain me as a customer. That opportunity is long gone, but maybe they can change their customer service policies for future customers. Read Less

I cannot in good conscience refer anyone, friend or foe, to Banfield. The big concerns: They administered a FELV on our kitten when she was too young for it to be accurate. The Vet even acknowledged that she wasn't old enough for the test after we found out and brought it to their attention. Why would you administer a test knowing it wasn't accurate? Then they refused to let me check on the kitten when she was spayed. Mind you, I was the one to drop her off and sign the papers to admit her. As far as I know, there aren't HIPPA laws for animals. They unnecessary traumatized our kitten. During a visit for a worm treatment (she hadn't had worms in months but they suggested it so we thought it was necessary) and wellness exam they probed her bottom twice: once for a temperature (why not the ear?) and again for a fecal sample. A week later I called for the results and was told they never ran the test because they didn't collect a sample. My husband and I both witnessed the sample being taken and fecal matter on the stick. Several other negatives: We saw signs all over the office telling clients to choose their PCP (primary care physician) and yet after we did so we never saw her. The wait is extremely long for a five minute visit and I never got the feeling that the Vet was thorough enough. At least half the time I call the office I'm hung up after being put on hold. Positive: They were quick to give us a credit for the FELV incident and gave us a free fecal test because of that matter. I was pleased that they reacted quickly to these concerns but in the end it didn't matter. Both my husband and I have come to distrust Banfield and their Vets. I honestly feel that if we had to bring our kitten in for anything serious (or maybe even routine!) it might cost her life. I know that sounds dramatic, but if they don't know when a FELV test should be given, what else don't they know? I cannot bring our kitten back to this place after our experience. Yes they've saved us money on vet bills and reached out for each issue but the issues we had were not worth it and should never have happened. I'd much rather deal with a private Vet who knows what they're doing than deal with Banfield. Read Less
