I am new to Chesapeake and I chose this vet simply for convenience. They are located only a couple miles from where I live. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful as were the assistants. The vets were also friendly though the amount of tests they stated my 4 animals needed was pricey. I have an older dog who does have health problems and I do want to provide him with good care but the prospect was in the thousands and I still have three other pets. For me, the cost was higher than what I want to pay, so I will be searching for a more pocketbook friendly veterinarian. Read Less

I brought my dog in because I my dog needed a cardiology examination. I received an estimate from Pet Care Veterinary Hospital, and I wanted a second opinion. The two estimates varied greatly. This hospital quoted me a price for the consult that was $68 more than Pet Care to see the same cardiologist. The price they quoted me for digital radiography was $100 more. The price for ECG was $143 more. Also I asked them to email me the report for a blood pressure exam they charged me $48 for, and they sent me a two line email with the results, not a report that I could share with another vet. I am shocked by the difference in prices. I do not intend to use this hospital again. If the overcharging weren't bad enough, it angers me that they charged me $48 dollars to take my dog's blood pressure, and then they don't even have a report to give me. We brought our senior pup in for an emergency visit for her mouth and teeth.  This place isn't specifically an emergency vet, but due to her serious condition and the fact that they've seen her as a patient in the past, they were able to see her almost immediately.  They were able to stabilize her rather quickly and perform surgery.  Before they did, they were very thorough in explaining all our options and costs as well as giving us a good idea of what her recovery and quality of life would be like after.  She was home the same day and recovered fully after a few days, just as they said she would.  I highly recomend Centerville to anyone who loves their pets as if they were a part of the family. Two wasted months of my dogs life. Today a ultra sound was scheduled and I was told finally that with this they could determine whether she had pancreatic issues due to cancer etc and then treat. I was also told we would discuss food options as she wasn't eating nor drinking. I told them she eats a little veg with broth but her mouth looks like she's in pain when she eats. They take her back. After two hours the ASSISTANT comes out with some paper and tells me the vet will EMAIL me tomorrow? Wth? I knew the were about $$ more than really caring but this was to much.  Um what about the diet? We were supposed to discuss food she's losing weight!!! It's not on my schedule the assistant states!! Ok did the vet take two seconds and look in her mouth? No she did not. Wth?? So now my baby has declined to mouth hurting not eating or drinking and I'm obvious pain and NOTHING!!! Just we will send you an email. We are not addressing the symptoms?? So ANGRY my dog ha good ne through this and we wasted our time. Then as I'm leaving the desk clerk says the owner will call you ( she's a Vet too) oh ok to address this? No about the billing.......PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE, the seem nice initially but are incompetent uncaring people. And yes I will sue if something happens to her due to their negligence.UPDATE this was yesterday when I had an appt and the vet couldn't be bothered to talk to me. Today my baby is throwing up and not eating and drinking again no calls apologizing no calls telling me the results of the ultra sound nothing I  going to emergency care tonight so angry this could've been prevented. I've been to plenty of different vets in my dogs' seven years of life, but this place is my favorite. The people are not condescending in any way, the vets are very well spoken and good at explaining things, the pricing is fair for what is essentially highly trained medical care for your pet, and the techs are friendly and pleasant to be around. They are caring, gentle, and understanding people, and my dog is happy with them as well. Additionally, I don't know if it makes a difference, but they play soothing music for your pets when they come to the exam room and give your pet a few moments to chill out in an unfamiliar place. They call to check up on your pet after the visit to make sure conditions requiring treatment are going well, the owner understands everything that is going on, and the pet is reacting favorably to treatment. As we know there is not a whole lot of options in a small town... especially when you are not too familiar with the area. I honestly believe that is why this animal hospital is still open; and the simple reason that people just don't know there is  better. I had several horrible experiences at this vet office. One that has made me even think about legal action. I have two Schnauzers who are my loves, my husband and I cannot have children so they are ours. The first terrible encounter would have been during the holidays. When I had the groomer in the vet office groom my dogs- honestly I have never ad my dogs groomed outside the home before, but Mercedes my youngest was still learning. The groomer assured me she would be fine. So I agreed. (normally I groom them) I received a phone called saying that there was an accident, and that the vet and checked Mercedes out, and she was fine. Of course I had no idea what kind of "accident" so when I came in to pick up my dogs she had a huge hematoma on her eye. I was so sad for her..of course I wouldn't find out until a little later that she was now terrified of kids as well and was never before. This groomer is notorious for having her Kids on site. We are still working with Mercedes on trusting kids again and not being terrified. Encounter number 2 we were getting ready to leave Virginia and just needed some anti-nausea medicine for the dogs. Mercedes is the one that gets really car sick. So I had her with me. The Vet tech mentioned she was going to be due for her distemper soon, and I asked "is that something she really needs, she is not an outside dog"  the vet tech "well you want them to me as vaccinated as possible against all possible ailments" . Really though not something she needs and you can draw titters ( I know that now AFTER, my dog almost DIED) my dog went into anaphylactic shock, all for a shot I didn't even want. The kicker they charged me for the life saving measures ? I mean really 400$ did I pay it well yes because my dogs are my loves...but both times they did wrong and never said sorry never admitted wrong, and made me pay for the bill- clearly they don't care about animals just money. If they did they would have just told me to use Dramamine for car sickness like a great vet in San Diego!! Who's opinion of these encounters was sickened! Read Less

Our family has taken both our new pups in to this facility for first time visits, for boarding then for neutering. We found the staff and the doctors to be very pleasant, friendly and knowledgable. They not only provide treatment for our pups but they treat them with kindness and seem to genuinely care for our pets. I brought my dog here for a bath. It took 20 minutes to check her in and another 20 minutes to check her out, not because they were thorough but because I stood there waiting for 15 minutes each time. We had never been here before and they didn't ask for proof of vaccinations which is just irresponsible. They didn't call me when she was ready so after 3 hours I finally called and they couldn't tell me how long she had been waiting for. I asked about her anal glands and they weren't able to give me any information about that either. I asked them to use medicated shampoo because she has allergies and wasn't given any confirmation that it had been used. I have used Petsmart in the past and wrongfully thought that a vet's office would do a better job. If they care so much about pets and their owners then they would have provided better customer service and not left my dog sitting in a kennel for god knows how long before I finally called and found out she was ready.Read Less

My dog and I had a great experience. The technicians and Doctor were very patient and explained everything to me. They made my dog feel at ease despite his anxiety. What a fantastic group of carrying animal lovers! My dogs, Maple and Ivy have had their routine check-ups here for about a year. On two occasions, I've taken them for bath's and nail trims. All have been great. This weekend, the girls spent three nights there while we were out of town. Very crappy. Waited an hour in the room never brought my cat in. Very sarcastic and rude workers. Wouldn't do anything to help my cat it seemed like . Said it was something she needed antibiotics for, two days later never better took her to a different vet found out she has cancer and died later that day. So she prescribes a different kind of antibiotic and all kinds of sprays and lotions that totaled $400. WOW! I was pretty shocked! I only wanted the medication to treat him. This Vet office is like a car dealership. They like to up sell! I just want something to help my little guy. After 8 days of the medicine not working, I called back and ask if they can just prescribe me the steroids like my previous office always does and works! They said, I would have to come back in and do all these test and pay another doctors visit just to have him looked at again and prescribe something else. This place is a joke! I thought this was an emergency clinic and walked in with Ginger the day after Christmas. Unfortunately, they are not an emergency clinic but asked me what was going on. I told them about Ginger's breathing and it was getting worse. The front desk staff checked with the doctor who said she had 15 minutes before her next appointment and agreed to see Ginger. They ended up spending over an hour with us and keeping Ginger all afternoon due to some blood work not looking good. The care, concern and follow up treatment we have received has been exceptional. More tests are being run on Ginger and we do not know her diagnosis yet but the care we are receiving from this staff has been exceptional. Let me say I love the convenience of the hospital being in a great location. The staff is nice and always courteous. There are a few things that keep me from giving it a 5 star rating. They are not the best about returning calls about your pet. We also experienced having to give our dog two rounds of a vaccine and the only thing I got about their mistake was an I'm sorry, however they got paid twice from us for the vaccine. Was very upset about that. And lastly our experience with the boarding service would frustrate the most patient person. It takes 30 minutes to check your dog in and then 30 minutes to check them out for boarding... goodness it's longer than picking your child up from daycare. That has got to be streamlined in some way. I know they care but goodness.Read Less

I was in need of a new veterinarian for my baby Essence. I was referred to Centerville Animal Hospital by a coworker. When I initially called to make an appointment I was greeted by a friendly voice and was very pleased with the flexibility in available appointments. When I arrived for her appointment the staff was very nice and they treated Essence like she was one of their own. Dr. Hayden was very sweet and informative. She provided me with answers to questions that Essence's previous veterinarian seemed to busy to deal with. Worst vet experience ever. I scheduled an appointment for a particular vaccine that I needed several days before showing up at the appointment time. Showed up on time, after calling to confirm, only to wait and then be told they did not have the vaccine that I needed and that I would have to come back in a few days. I won't darken their door again. A friend of mine walked in to find one of their extremely rude desk people reading a book about "how to up sell to your clientele." There are plenty of other vets in the area to not have to put up with this kind of behavior. That all being said, Dr. Hayden is very nice. Just not nice enough to deal with all the other problems.
