I would actually give them between 3 and 4 stars but I chose 3 stars due to the outrageous prices for not only their services ( and I totally get that You can’t put a cost on the health of your pet) but also their medications/sundries. This is the fourth Vet in Virginia I have been to in six years, due to relocation for my job, and they are by far the most expensive of them all.
The staff is extremely pleasant, each and every time I call or come in. They are always busy but they never seem to Get overwhelmed or make customers wait longer than they should. I think the biggest issue I have with this veterinarian hospital is the fact they misdiagnosed my dog with hypothyroidism and when confronted about their misdiagnosis, they explained that even though he may not be in full swing of the disease, he did have a trace of it (not enough to be worried about, much less be on medication every single day of his life for it) and therefore it’s always best to treat your pet versus waiting until it got into a full blown out problem. I understand that to a degree, however after sitting in the waiting room for almost an hour one afternoon, and watching 3 of 3 customers walk in to Either pick up medication or because they had an appointment, for their pet who had Hypothyroidism, I can’t help but wonder if I was not the only one who has a pet that was “misdiagnosed”......???
My advice to others — take your pet there if you live in the area and need a friendly, safe, and clean vet. But don’t drive out of your way to come here - it’s not worth the gas money or extra drive time! Read Less

Mt. Pleasant Veterinary Clinic has respectable veterinarians and staff, but their customer service is very frustrating. They seem too busy for their office size. The doctors are always in a room and if you call rarely will you get the veterinarian, which means if you have a follow-up question you wait all over again. They really push their own pharmacy, and didn't like to do verbal authorizations. It's 2018, plenty of doctors do verbal authorizations. They don't work with 1-800 pet meds. They wanted us to do 2 follow-up appointments for a routine dental removal. 2? that's entirely unnecessary. I just got the overall feeling that you were doing them a favor! After four months and much grief, I debated long and hard about whether I should share my experiences on facebook. We still miss our Chance dearly and I dont know if my family and I will ever get past this experience. I do know that I will not recommend this clinic to a friend or enemy and will never use their services again. On Tuesday, July 26, 2016, my toy poodle,Chance passed away in my mothers arms. My mother called his vets office, Mt Pleasant Veterinarian Clinic, and told them our dog was having trouble breathing and it was an emergency. She was put on hold, then finally told that we could go to the Cove in Suffolk (an hour drive away) or come in at 5:00 pm because ALL THE DOCTORS WERE GOING TO LUNCH IN 30 MINUTES. We would never try to see the doctor without an appointment for Chance unless it was an emergency. When Chance was a new patient, everyone was nice, following thousands of dollars spent at Mt. Pleasant and seeing the specialists; they were not so nice. We dont think they cared whether my Chance lived or died. I guess Hippocratic Oath, DO NO HARM meant nothing to these doctors, but Chance was our baby. While the doctors were out enjoying a BLT or Grilled Cheese at lunch, our 12-year-old poodle died about 20 minutes after my initial call to the Mt. Pleasant Veterinary Clinic. I hope that sandwich at lunch meant as much to them as my 12-year-old poodle and family member meant to me and my family. Chances four-legged furry friends still stop to look for him everyday as they walk past for their morning and evening walk, which tells me they still miss him too. This place generally either wins the Gold or Silver for Veterinary Medicine in the pilotonline.com readers choice. Anyway, just wanted to add my review. Nothing really special to report. Don't be fooled by the fancy new building with the nice waiting room and flatscreen tv. My cat suffered a serious complication during a dental procedure (eventually diagnosed as a stroke, by ANOTHER VET) and the vet at Mt Pleasant missed it entirely. They sent my cat home to "recover" when she should have been treated immediately. We ended up having to take her back as soon as the anesthesia wore off (because it was obvious she couldn't walk!), and she spent four days hooked up to an IV (which we had to pay for, too). We got her home and she couldn't even see to eat or drink. I spent days spoon-feeding her and syringing water (with a syringe I already had- Mt Pleasant Vet didn't think about how my cat might need hydration once home). Ultimately we were charged hundreds of dollars for a procedure gone awry, with no follow-up phone calls to check on my cat's status and never even a simple apology. I've taken my cats to Mt Pleasant since they were kittens but no more...... Perhaps they're more concerned with paying for the new office building than caring for longtime customers. If we'd gotten a single phone call just to ask about her, I wouldn't have written this post. Read Less

My first experience with MPVC was due to my 1y/o cat Alfie, having a violent seizure. I have lived in Chesapeake my whole life and knew this clinic was near by and have been in buisness for a long time. I kicked the door open and screamed for help, immediately a woman (Gabby, an amazing vet tech!) took him from my arms and got to work. I then fell to pieces, thinking there was no way my baby could make it after the horrendous seizure i had wistnessed. Then the receptionist tried to comfort me and told me stories of her own Golden who had terrible seizures. She assured me that Alfie was in good hands and he would pull through. After a week long battle with these seizures, my boy finally got to come home. I know without a doubt that Alfie would not be here today with out the knowledge, instinct, and compassion of Dr Banta. I regret to say we had to come back to the vet today due to missed comunication in administering Aflie's anti seizure meds (mommys fault). This was his first seizure in 3 years. I was told that Dr banta would be a while until he was able to see Alfie and that he would have to wait in the cat room kennel (they have a separate quiet area for cats). Dr Banta then immediately came to see Alfie when he was told we were there! Dr Banta gently removed Alfie from his carrier, knowing he was a grumpy cat after all he had been through in the past 24hrs.. he quickly made Alfie so comfortable as he pet him and talked sweetly to him. As silly as it sounds i swear my cat knows this is the man that has saved his life countless times. They then did all of my cats blood work and had him out in 10 minutes bc he told me, he understands the nature of indoor cats and how traumatic it is to be in a clinic/hospital, even in a "quiet cat room" that they provide. MPVC just built a new office in the same location and it is beautiful, clean and comfy. I would follow this doctor anywhere.. he truly cares about our pets. I have tears in my eyes as i write this.. i feel i owe this doctor so much more than this silly review could ever give him. In conclusion, if you are wondering where to take your babies.. you will not find a better a better doctor. I guarantee it!!! Read Less

It's okay. Lot of reasons I don't rate it higher. Most are personal. Clean and good-looking facility to say the least though.

We have been going here for the past 5 years and absolutely love this place. They are caring, willing to work you in for immediate problems and seem to really enjoy helping animals. This place generally either wins the Gold or Silver for Veterinary Medicine in the pilotonline.com readers choice. Anyway, just wanted to add my review. Nothing really special to report. Sam (white) will have surgery on Thursday by Dr. Banta for a tumor on his eyelid and hoping for the best. Abbey had torn her ACL but, didn't require surgery and has been fine. She also has had stomach issues from allergies and has been on the special food to help. I should mention that we also see Dr Boland & Dr Dean who are excellent as well. Read Less

My wife and I came in yesterday to put down our beloved Prince. He was family and cherished and loved unconditionally. Dr. Banta and his staff made this incredibly difficult time in our life amazingly peaceful. He sat at the feet of our dog with us and helped us cry and say goodbye and then when asked, he even prayed for us. We will always miss our Prince but we will never forget the the amazing staff led by Dr. Banta. Thank you for your care and compassion~ it will never be forgotten! Read Less

Customer service goes a long way. My poor old girl isn't feeling well, and has been in and out over the last few months. They've called me twice (the doc herself) to check on Cali and go over options with me for keeping her comfortable. Cali is not just another chart in their office. They actually put thought into her treatment, and personal touches into her care. As a business owner myself, I'm ALL about customer satisfaction. It will make or break your business. I'm thrilled with the service we have had since coming here! Keep up the good work! Read Less

They are awesome. Dr. Banta is very personal, the staff was all very friendly. Working for a specialty-medicine vet clinic I am picky about where I take my dogs, and I wont take them anywhere else.

Thanks for taking my post down and still not responding by a call as to why you gave shots to a 12 week old puppy when you had the shot record in front of you.You sent this poor puppy into a itching nightmare and scared the 1st time owners to death. No more referrals from me, if you couldn't care less to call me after I requested twice a call. And could care even less about the puppy's welfare. Read Less

Read Less
