I have no idea if the veterinarians are excellent or not, though I'm sure they must be, judging by the reviews. They have the most ineffective office staff, however. Twice, I tried to make an appointment. The first time, they didn't call me back for half a day, and then when the call was dropped, didn't bother to call me again to finish making the appointment. The second time, it was made very clear to me that since I am 10 minutes past Blacksburg, I and my animals are not important enough for an appointment. "Their vets are too tied up with regular clients and emergencies to see a new client". And yes, that is what I was told. She then recommended the vet school. Unbelievably rude. I have multiple animals, so they just lost a valuable client, and believe me, will not be getting any recommendations from me. Maybe they should train their office staff better! Read Less

Dr Veach attended my 27 year old Paso Fino gelding after he had a terrible accident, leaving two large gaping wounds and many lacerations. she was kind, very professional and very thorough. I have worked at several Vet practices over the years, and my usual Vet and past employer never even bothered to get out to help.Ill be using Appalachian Veterinary services from now on. Read Less

Dr. Satterfield was AMAZING. I've been to several vet clinics in the area and she far out shines them. She takes time with you to listen and help your animal. She explained everything and even came in early to help us last minute and it was cheaper then a regular visit at other local clinics. She's worth every penny and her extensive wealth of knowledge was great! Her "bedside" manner is stellar! I was referred by a friend and I will not go anywhere else. No one use this so called mixed animal practice! I have for the last 15 years but after today never again, I had a cow with a dead calf in it we pulled it in half trying to get it out Tuesday night at 7! I called them to come help I was told by one of his doctors that Dr. Kent Adams (the owner) listened to the message and he said come by their business and get 2 shots on Wednesday morning then go home and give them to her and wait for 2 days and they would come and pull it out so I did that! When I called to have them come, I was told they were to busy with emergencies and I should call Virginia Tech for help and that you should just let it rot out and the cow doesn't make it either! I questioned leaving a dead calf in her from the start because of infection knowing they have cut them out before for us, but I trusted him but never again will I use him for large or small animal care use your own judgment if you can't take someone at their word then they have nothing left!!!Read Less

Dr Adams and Dr Bridges are great I would trust them with any of our animals. The reason for my rating comes from our recent experience with Dr. Hatch. She had a mare of ours to breed and had multiple issues along the way. I have never met a vet who couldn't locate an ovary or blame their poor ultrasounding and palpating skills on the colon and gas and many other things. She was unable to pinch the twin and told us to starve the mare so hopefully one would be resorbed due to the lack of nutrients. When she came to recheck she advised us that she would just recheck at 30 days and if needed would refer to Virginia tech for a vaginal aspiration. Upon hearing this we called another local vet with more experience who promptly came out on emergency hours and popped the twin within fifteen minutes of arriving. I don't understand why Dr hatch couldn't have contacted someone else to help if she wasn't competent enough to do the job herself. The least she could have done would have been not charged for the ultrasound which she could only half perform.Read Less

Would not recommend them.. Even when given specific instructions, they do not follow them.. Everytime I have used them for my horse there was always a "miscommuniation" and guess whos fault it is...The paying customer.... Read Less
