I love this place! The doctor has numerous times save my pets and spotted things other more expensive vets over looked. The prices are affordable. The only down fall is the doctor is “experienced” and has been in the saving pets game for a while so he is no longer able to do surgeries due to his back. But I’d rather take his opinion THEN go get surgery elsewhere than have something overlooked. My family has trusted Dr. Young with our pet's healhcare needs for years. This is a veterinarian with decades of experience, who really cares about his patients. I credit Dr. Young with saving my dog's life - he worked with our schedule and provided amazing care for my Prancer without putting us in debt. I take my cat here for his checkups and love how great Dr. Young and his assistants are with him! My family and I have been seeing Dr. Young since I was a child. He and his staff have always been kind to us. Perfect place to go for routine care; vaccines, nail trimmings and testing. I always know that I will be able to afford my animals care. They wont charge you $80 for just a visit. Took our toy poodle for his Rabies shot (3 year) it was only $8! This review is on yelp not Christiansburg veterinarian clinic, more over on the trustworthiness and accuracy of yelp's system of determining which reviews to use and the ones not factored in nor recommended! Funny the reviews they chose to recommend are from two people who live over a hundred miles away from the clinic, and don't recommend nor factor in the ones who live closer to the clinic around forty miles or less?? Also the ones from the Richmond & DC areas which are used are negative and demeaning, while the local ones not used are people who use the clinic regularly over a long period of time and are positive! I personally live five minutes from Dr. Young's clinic and have used him off and on for 26 years! He has always been professional, concerned and caring and has cared and put down several old and terminally ill friends over that time! He also makes no pretense that his clinic is a limited care facility and has suggested several times over our this time to take some of our pets to a better equipped veterinarian facility for certain illnesses and treatment needs! Don't equate fair reasonably priced care for cheep & unprofessional care! Futhermore his staff as well as he have always given polite and concerned service and shown the utmost heart felt care for me as well as my best friends! If you're looking for fair reasonably priced basic pet care from a professional caring group of fine good people then this is where you should go! Worst veterinary experience of my life. They got two stars instead of one simply because they are very affordable. But in this case, you get what you pay for, and it's not worth it to me. The entire staff, including the doctor, are completely apathetic. Dr Young was dismissive of my concerns, getting any medical advice/information relevant to my dog out of him was like pulling teeth, and they didn't even care enough about my dog's history to take note of information that I hand delivered to them. I have them medical history regarding previous vaccinations and lab tests. Two nurses and the doctor had that paperwork in their hands, and they seemed to be writing the information down. But when my online pharmacy called to get heartworm prevention approved, Dr Young denied the Rx stating that my dog needed a heartworm test...something that was clearly recorded as current on the paperwork I handed over to them. The nurses are short and abrasive, the doctor is disinterested and clearly not very thorough. I will never give them my business again. Read Less

Sounds like the below two mean ratings about Dr. Young being mean are not at all the man I know. I have been going there for over 25 years. I was there when Dr. Carter was there. The staff have always been kind. I hold my pets so they can't turn and possibly bite or scratch the doctor. I have always been treated with the utmost respect. My animals get nails, trimmed, meds for infections, and all their shots here. Best, kindest, nicest Vet in town. Also, he doesn't have all those crazy, crazy charges. The office isn't fancy or even super clean. I keep my dachshunds on my lap. They only take cash or checks which can be inconvenient. But Dr. Young does what you need and the price is right. Yes, if something was seriously wrong I might go elsewhere but for routine care and small problems this place won't bankrupt you with needless costs. If you're looking for no nonsense care for your pets, I recommend you check this place out. My puppy was checked, given shots, and diagnosed within 30 minutes of my arrival. The total price for the visit and antibiotics he needed? 54.50. One thing I'd wish I had known beforehand is that they only accept cash or checks. These people are jerks. We went there to have our dog of 13 years put down and do to a mistake in the billing of a prior visit which was supposed to be billed to Dalmation rescue of swva Dr. Young shut the door in my sobbing 8 year olds face and refused to help us. This is the worst veterinarian practice there is. This place is unclean, nothing sanitized and all the assistants are as rude and hateful as Dr. Young himself. He shouldn't be allowed to practice. I only give this place 2 stars because it is a resource for lower income people who normally can not afford vet care. However, this place is a disaster. Dr. Young has never spent more than 3 minutes with me. He does not answer my questions, however goes through his routine. I asked if my dogs anal glands were full and if so, to express them. He squeezed his empty sacs and charged me. He also gives these conveniently pre-filled, one size works for all (which I doubt seeing as I have a 17lb dachshund), not steralized or wrapped shots he calls "antibiotics" conveniently placed on the counter. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of placebo as it has never helped my pet. I went to a vet in Richmond after having a reoccuring severe infection and he bluntly told me Dr. Young was not following procedures. Dog's skin cycle is 21 days and thus you need to give them antibiotics for at least 21 days. Dr. Young continuously put me on 12 day cycle and the infection kept coming back. He may be cheap, but his shoddy care requires you to come back multiple times which ends up costing a comparable amount to a real veterinarian. I also looked up his records and he has several violations for giving expired rabies vaccines (which I'm not surprised about considering his cleanliness of shots). If it's down to whether or not you can even give your dog care, go to Dr. Young. If you're just trying to save a buck, save yourself the time and go elsewhere. Read Less
