All about the money! New to the area, I needed a vet to look at my cat who has a 7-year history with hairballs. My concern was she was having trouble passing one and the Laxatone wasn't working. We'd walked this road before. The vet came into the exam room, asked questions and poked around my cat, then left the room to "develop a plan." The tech came back in with a laundry list of things - blood work, x-rays, probiotics, etc. - that would cost a little over $700. I asked what did the Dr. think was wrong with my cat and the tech had no idea. When she came back from asking the Dr., she said the symptoms were so vague, my cat could really have anything, which is why there were so many things listed on the sheet as recommendations. When I said I wasn't going to pay $700 to have it all done, she said that's why they were itemized - I could pick and choose what I wanted them to do. I said the vet has the degree, not me, so I'd like her input. The vet came into the room with a nasty attitude, defending her "recommendations," never once stating a probable cause for my cat's symptoms, and defending the exorbitant cost of items on the list. Thankfully I had printed a coupon for a free exam because there was no way I was going to pay for that absurdity. Took my cat elsewhere; she was given fluids, anti-nausea meds, and an appetite stimulant. Back up and running. Will NEVER recommend VCA to anyone. Read Less
