This the worse place to keep your pets, I used to give my dog his vaccines in this place from a year and a half and I try to find him a room for 20 days because I need to travel out of state for emergency situation and the lady how I spoke with her told me on the phone that there is no room for him and I called her again after an hour to have an appointment for his vaccines and she told me that there's a room and I booked for him and she called back again after 10 min and told me that we can't keep him with us because I have a note said he didn't behave good last time and you can find him another place , he is just small dog a year and a half, how he behave??? I liked this vet at first but problems after problems came up. My dog had a parasites then they said they would "cover" it. I walked out thinking I didn't have to pay for the medication, because he was a PetLand puppy. Nope. Called me shortly after telling me I had to pay just because their office lady screwed up, and I had a a paper saying it was covered and fine. So they blew up my phone almost everyday to get me to pay I finally just paid it, because I got tired of having me call them. But, going back to my dog having parasites, he prolapsed due to them. I paid $500 to have his suture his butt so we didn't have the problem, because this is what they advised. He didn't even keep the suture in for more than 5 minutes. But that's only were it gets better, pet land is partnered with this vet, and EVERY dog that comes out of petland has been sick or has parasites. Sounds fishy right? Just because this vet is cheap, doesn't mean it's worth the extra that comes along with it. Read Less

I visited Potomac Valley for the first time yesterday and was very impressed with the team.  My dog had a semi emergency and they saw us without an appointment and promptly took care of the problem.  She was playing and almost completely tore her toenail off.  Unfortunately, to resolve the problem, they had to surgically remove the nail. Potomac Valley Vets are some of the most competent, caring individuals around.  I have worked with numerous vets over the years, having moved around the country, and PVVH are all-around the best.  I can't comment on the PetLand notes below - I am not a fan of puppy mills and all my dogs have been rescues - but I can comment on how they have treated my dog. First, they have always accommodated me when I've had an emergency situation - including calling 5 minutes before closing.  Second, the doctors have always been professional, and have given me a range of options, including recommending against costly diagnostic tests (e.g. an echocardiogram) where they were not warranted.  Third, the staff is always friendly and treats my dog well - including when I board her.  Finally, and most important, I have a healthy, happy dog thanks to their continuing care.I can't recommend them highly enough (and they do adopt rescue cats out of their lobby!) After a very unhappy experience at a highly rated animal hospital,  upon recommendation. I brought my cat here. I was very surprised at their quick response. This small and very friendly hospital is run by two brothers, Drs. Cheema. Every staff I dealt with here was very friendly, They were very transparent and responsive. The Hospital was very clean and I met and was impressed by both doctors. My male cat came in with a complicated case of blocked urethra. They took good care of him, kept me informed, explained everything to me along the way. They didn't pass on the explaining to a tech but talked to me personally, always returning my calls. Their prices were reasonable, worth the drive to me, they had my cat's best interest at heart and never kept him waiting for treatment. They were a fraction of what the other hospital wanted to charge me. As to putting him on a "prescription diet food" they did recommend it and also gave me a prescription in writing so I could buy it anywhere. So unlike another reviewer who complained about it, this is routinely done and often a written prescription is denied. I will keep bringing my cat back whenever necessary. Thank you so much Drs. He said my dog had a urinary tract infection (my dog wasn't having any symptoms, it was just after a routine urine analysis). He said the only way to fix it was through a special Rx diet that we can only be through him as a vet. I was young and didn't know much back then but now that I can research online, there are many other and better ways to treat UTI's. He only wants your money. He doesn't care about your pet. I honestly don't even believe my dog had a UTI and he just told us he did under false pretenses so that he can make us buy the special food from him. I'm also looking at other reviewers here and he's now working with Petland? If he's working with puppy mills, you know he seriously only cares about getting as much money as possible. The vets I've been taking my dog too now, actively advertise getting a dog from the shelter and not supporting for-profit breeders. You're a terrible, greedy person Dr. Cheema.EDIT: I would further like to add because I know this is important for me and others. Dr. Cheema DID NOT receive his veterinary degree from an accredited U.S. college, he received it in India. Read Less

I can not even justify a single reason to even rate them a single star.  Unfortunately I have too.  This is by far the worst vet my family and I have taken our puppies to.  First of all, they introduced our unvaccinated puppies to an extremely sick dog.  One of our puppies have been sick for months because of this.  They were 8 weeks when we purchased them from Petland and when they were exposed.  One puppy was only sick for a month and one has been sick 8 weeks.  They also said our dog had a level 6 heart murmur when other vets said it was a level one....by the way that murmur is  gone now. The vet and the receptionist were rude and said we were paranoid.  After our puppies had peed and pooped in the vet they only wiped it and didn't sanitize it.  I can't believe Petland would support a horrible vet.  I will not be returning to both Petland or this Vet anymore.  If you truly love your pet please stop going here . They give extremely reasonable prices, and even not charged me once for an exam when it turned out my dog was fine! My dog had an emergency in the middle of the night and the vet was there for me ASAP at a very good on call price. He comforted me as he took care of my dog and was very kind. I have pet assure and decided it was time to try out a new vet. Our cat needed her teeth cleaned, so we decided to give this place a shot. It was definitely the biggest mistake we could have made. The cat was dropped off during her appointment time as expected, but I received a call several hours later telling me they had pulled 4 of her teeth while she was knocked out. I might have been OK with this if they had called me first to discuss why they did it. To this day I was never told if it was even necessary. To make matters worse, we had her shaved since she would be under and they managed to somehow snip a small piece of the tip of her ear off. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they informed me, but the doctor had the gull to tell my wife "don't worry, we didn't charge you to sow it back on." I would sure hope not! I'd say avoid this place unless it is the only vet around. I would actually suggest Springfield Animal Hospital, they were much better! Read Less

Much like Jake K. I was initially reticent to bring my dog in here for his Petland "warranty" review.  In fact, as I was walking through the door I remember planning to get a second opinion before I even set eyes on Dr. Cheema.  I fully expected them to "rubber stamp" his physical and leave me to discover health problems later on.  Instead, Dr. Cheema did a very thorough examination and identified several health problems in need of treatment - all of which ended up on Petland's dime.  My discussion with Dr. Cheema during this visit leaves me extremely skeptical that any of his staff would be cheering for puppy mills, as one poster purports.  What I can say, is that Dr. Cheema and his staff are not only thoroughly professional, but extremely outgoing, cheerful, and friendly.  Several of the vet techs know my dog by sight - and we only go in a few times each year.  Moreover, Dr. Cheema has a real way with animals -  I remember watching him put ear drops in my pup to treat an infection and thinking "that doesn't look so hard" only to later be confronted with a dog who was willing to do just about anything to prevent ME from giving him his medicine!  Finally, Dr. Cheema has made himself available on short notice for the sort of minor medical "emergencies" that all first time pet owners encounter.  Whenever we've needed to come in, he and his staff have ALWAYS made time to see my dog, and when there is an "after hours" emergency, he is available 24 hours a day to take my panicked calls.  I could not give him a higher recommendation - I only wish he could treat my children too!  I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Cheema, and cannot imagine that anyone could have received anything but excellent, professional, and compassionate treatment. Like someone else said on here, I was skeptical about this place because it was the one Petland sent me to for my puppy's first visit.  But I was impressed with the nice clean waiting and exam rooms, friendly staff and knowledgable vets.  The two vets there are brothers (two Dr. Cheema's).  They had a good answer to every question I had.  They even seem to know a lot about dog training and general behavior issues, which not all vets know much about.  Dr. Sandeep Cheema even showed me how to teach Cady a trick and stood and watched while I practiced with her.  I didn't feel like they rushed her through at all.  I was taking my cat to a different vet before but I'm going to start bringing him here. My husband and I absolutly love this place.  I have 2 dogs and have had dogs all my life so I know a good vet when I find one.  Everytime we come here we always get a solid answer on what is wrong, they're always right and we walk away spending less than I though we would.  You really can't ask for better than that.  We actually recently moved to Woodbridge but still make the drive to go to this vet in Fairfax.As far as the bad review below, there are 2 vets at this location and they have both always been very kind to me and my dogs.  The receptionists might be a little immature but they are high schools girls and have always been friendly to me. I notmally use a different vet but having just moved to this area this place was close and appreared to look nice from thr outside, but once i got there it was a completely different story.  This place is aweful. First of all the two high school receptionists were immature and unprofessional. This vet is the sole vet for PetLand and the receptionists were discussing how puppy mills keep their business running and how they "are great." :( Secondly the dr lacked complete passion and did not even do a propper full exam on my puppy. The staff overall was just unprofessional and lacked knowledge about animal care. Please I urge people that are thinking about using this vet, don't. I don't know even know where to start. This place is simply amazing. My dog Louie had a history of inhaling socks. He recently started vomiting profusely and exhibiting episodes of uncontrollable bowel moments. Needless to say my roommate and I was worried. We rushed him to South Paw Emergency Veterinary where he was put through a number of different test including x-rays. We were told there might be a foreign object (sock) in his intestines. The x-rays are not 100% accurate however if so, he would require immediate surgery. To South Paws credit, they were always professional and very helpful. However the quote was $5800.00 for the surgery on top of the $460.00 we already paid them for the exams. I felt weird worrying about prices when it comes to Louie's health however my roommate and I are in our early 20's and we just don't have that kind of money. We also don't have great credit so a "care card approval" was out of the question. We took him home around 4am and hit the road at 7am searching for a cheaper place that could do the surgery and provide a payment plan. Now if any of you have ever had an emergency with your pet you should be aware that no vet is going to quote you prices or talk payment arrangements over the phone, they are going to want to see your pet and do their own exam$$. After hours upon stressful hours, driving around, in and out of vets, paying all sorts of fees, thinking any minute could be his last. We finally stubbed upon Potomac Valley. First off, they were not only the best price we have heard all day, but they immediately agreed to a payment plan that we felt comfortable with. Contrary to ALL of the other places we took him, (appx. 5?) Potomac Valley didn't even talk money until the very end, after Louie was treated... but lets back up. Dr. Cheema looked at the x-rays that Southpaw had taking (saving us money by not doing them again) and determined that it might not have been a sock after all. In his professional opinion Louie had a stomach virus and the disturbed area South Paw had claimed to be a foreign object was gas. He said the fact that he had diarrhea AND vomiting alone isn't consisted with a dog that had something blocking his intestines. He talked to us like people answering any question we threw at him and seemed truly concerned for Louie, not just out for some extra cash, as everyone else seemed to be chasing. He gave us some food as well as some meds. and told us to monitor him, so far, so good. He explained he could be wrong and if Louie threw up again we would have to go with the surgery. We continue to cross our fingers and hope everything is ok its been about 4 days and Louie seems to be getting better he hasn't at all vomited once. We aren't out of the woods yet I just had to share this wonderful experience with you, and hope this review helps you when choosing a vet. I was a tad hesitant about taking Wally here since this was the hospital that Petland insisted on if I were to activate my "warranty" on the dog.  Amazingly enough, I was pleasantly surprised.  In all fairness I expected potentially running into a place that was going to kangaroo Wally in and out and stamp him with a clean bill of health.  Instead, I ran into a professional staff who seemed to generally care for my new family member.The lady at the desk was warm and friendly - especially to Wally who was a tad nervous.  She took him gently and started him on his first appointment.  When the doc came in for our appointment, he was friendly and immediately went into answering all of my questions.  What I really liked is that he used the same approach I use with my clients - I'm not going to sell you something right out of the gate.  Instead, I'm going to work on fixing any problems, suggest solutions, and then if you ask me, point you in the direction of what you'll need.Great service - I'm tentatively recommending this place.  I'll at least be patient enough to give it to the next appointment before I award the fifth star!
