It is not normal to separate your pet from you, slap a muzzle on him and shove him into a corner of the exam room to vaccinate, and then justify your actions with being afraid of a super social husky. Very sad that I'm going to have to find a new vet after nearly 15 years.  I tried 2 weeks in a row to find a time to get my cat's nails trimmed but they are always booked or the latest they can do is 5:40.  For years they'd tell me to come in after 6 when it slowed down and they'd cut them any day that I called.  Now, I guess a nail trim doesn't make them much money so they could care less.  Seems to be all about the money in the last few years. But, the worst part is the attitude of the person I spoke to, Alyssa.  I told her I guess I was going to have to find another vet and she said "ok" and then hung up.  My neighbor used to go here for years and also had a very disappointing experience so I know it's not just me.  Obviously, they no longer care about their customers.  :( Read Less

I have been to Fairfax Animal Hospital several times with my lab mix Madison, and each time we have received excellent care and customer service! The staff are very friendly. Most of the staff remember Madison from her heartworm treatment, and always great her with treats. During a more recent visit, Madison was very nervous so the staff member brought her over lots of treats, pet her and gave her a scarf with some calming aroma to help her feel better. The doctors we have seen have been great! They are patient, loving and answer all my questions. Read Less

The women at the front desk are usually friendly and helpful, but the one I encountered today is horrible at customer service and should not interact with people. There are too many vets in Arlington to be treated poorly here. Read Less

We've been bringing our 2 Yorkie mixes here since 2015, and have only had positive experiences. While older, they're both in good health but have encountered occasional problems like GI distress, muscle strains/sprains, skin lesions, and the rare injury/accident over the years. We have seen most of the doctors in the practice at one point or another, but Dr. Goldfarb is our favorite. He puts our dogs at ease, performs thorough exams, and is hands down the most experienced and knowledgeable vet we've entrusted our dogs to - and we tried out dozens of area vets before deciding on FHA. Earlier this year, our older pup strained his neck and was in severe pain, almost to the point of being immobile. We brought him in right away, and Dr. Goldfarb diagnosed him with a slipped disc - something that essentially can only be healed with time. However, he prescribed the perfect cocktail of meds (and strict instructions re: properly weening him off), and it was only a matter of days before our pup slowly began acting like himself again. When our other pup ingested a toxic amount of chocolate several years ago, FHA/Dr. Goldfarb successfully managed his post-emergency care (they referred us to VCA for initial emergency care) until he was back to normal. Being the overly cautious dog mom that I am, I tend to bring our dogs in for seemingly minor issues (better safe than sorry!), and ask a lot of questions; every doctor here has taken their time with our pups, and I've never felt rushed or like I was asking a stupid question. The vet techs are similarly awesome, and it's obvious that they genuinely care about each animal that comes through. At one point, there was a super pushy tech who tried to guilt/force us into running unnecessary tests for one of our dogs (without letting us know of the costs up front), but I haven't seen him as of our most recent visits - so assuming he's gone. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful, and have almost always gotten us in for a same or next day appointment when requested. Prices are reasonable, and I highly recommend signing up for the pet care rewards membership - we've already used our 2 free visits, and have racked up cash back for each visit; in our case, it has already paid for itself! The only thing I'd love to see is a discount on wellness exams for 2 or more dogs from the same family. Read Less

I'm gonna post it again So let me start off by saying I've been coming here for 2 years since I moved to the areaA few things to note from my observationsIf and when you come here, I, 100% guarantee that there will be an un satisfied person who is complaining about the way that the hospital conducts business .. the way they charge people, their practices etcI've seen them call the cops on upset ownersNext thing to note, every single person that works here is always in a fight or flight mode .. they dodge every single question with a cover their ass mentality.. literally the simplest questions you have.. they tip toe .. it can be extremely frustrating having your most basic questions go un answeredThey don't take amex.. businesses don't take amex because amex will always side with you during disputes.. more then likely amex took away this businesses ability to take amex because of their high unsatisfactory rateHaving said that, let me share my latest experience and I hope that it may prevent one of you from being effed by these guys In a nutshell These guys did a check up on my dog and on my invoice, they decided to list an office visit as "Dental Disease" I have full insurance for my dog, 100% coverage, given how insurance in this country is, I didn't want to wait 10 years for some insurance company to deny my dogs claim because of this small clear mishap When I returned to the vet office, this is where it gets good, the vet tech tries to bs me in saying that its not wrong, it's not a mistake and that insurance companies don't care .. as she visually sees my body language reject that bs explanation to me .. she literally runs off with my dog to vaccinate her because she knew that if my dog was given back to me, I'm walking out of there .. so good for this place to get overzealous employees 5 minutes later, the vet comes back with my stolen dog, the vet just goes straight into fight or flight mode, backing everything the vet tech said, not listening to a single thing I'm saying Here's where it gets good, I'm like, "if you're not fixing it, then I'm not coming back here because your reluctance to fix a single mistake," the vet obviously didn't care because she just got me for the vaccinations.  As I'm walking out, this poor sheeple of a vet, blurts out, "do you want to take this for your dogs stool sample?" I literally gave her the biggest look of disgust and replied, Lady did you just not hear me, I ain't coming back And she goes off in a bitchy mood, "fine" Guess what, it gets better ... As I check out and get a copy of my dogs records, because I'm not coming back here... The best part of this was the fact that the dumb vet tech wrote a one sided version of our conversation essentially just shit talking to me saying I demanded this and that.. was just handed over to me for to read :) I wrote a review documenting my experiences, the owner or business mgr, wanted to damage control because my review gained so much traction and was an obvious black eyeShe called me, the conversation was pretty much her apologizing for her staff and saying that they're right and I'm sol Well I thanked her for the call and told her, I'm not buying it and you can do better in which she promised me she would do... and the fact that your vet tech stole my dog to get your money is disgusting .. and the kick in the nuts was the vet who remarkably asked if I still wanted a stool sample So here we are a couple of weeks later, I got a call back from the business mgr and I turned out to be right.. they edited the invoice to what it should be and I was told that the vet and the vet tech were dealt with accordingly but couldn't go into further because its a personnel issue.. whether its true or not is immaterial .. but I made sure to ask her, are you ok with that tech stealing my dog and then talking crap about me ? In which it was completely denounced and apologized for again ... altho it didnt stop her from repeatedly and condescendingly tell me that its common knowledge to put disease on people's invoice in the vet industrythese guys asked yelp to remove my review, in which they did, but guess what.. It's still up on google and facebook ... So in a nutshell, the vet and vet tech are giant scumbags trying to get your money and are so indoctrinated into their routine of exploiting your love for your pet that they have big issues in listening .. the business manager did what she could to do the damage and I'm satisfied with the end result but watch out for your pet, question their methods, and don't let them steal your dog Read Less

Update: I had a very fruitful and encouraging discussion with one of the owners and I feel confident some of the issues I identified will be addressed. Edited my initial review to reflect a very positive response from the owners. I am hoping to be able to increase my rating again in the future. The doctors, techs, and reception staff are WONDERFUL. So why three stars? Because of the way I perceived staff interaction with management.  I have been with this practice since 2010. The staff have always felt like family and they treat my pet like one of their own. Your staff work hard and they do a tremendous job under sometimes challenging circumstances. They deserve your appreciation. Dr. Goldfarb built this practice based on providing phenomenal care to pets and treating his staff well. He succeeded because of good relationships. I am encouraged that these relationships will continue to improve under the new management following my discussion with one of the owners.  The owners saw my previous post and took note, to their credit. Changed my previous 5 star review to 0 star. Have been going there for 10 years for all my pets. I took my cat there when I noticed some eye discoloring. They said it was allergies. I took her again later because I seemed to get worse. I get it they are not specialized, they referred to me a specialist in Vienna. Not holding them reliable. There, found out she has a tumor in her eye that increased eventually. After meds, re-checks within a month, the only solution now is to take the eye out. Because it costs me $3K and the place is far, I was suggested to call my vet to see if they could operate. I called them. They put me on hold couple of times, didn't return calls after they took my number etc. During these time, I was informed the surgery is a must by the specialist. I tried my vet again. Finally after 3 whole weeks, I contacted and asked if they were able to do the surgery, I was told they didn't know if the vet could do that and asked me to call next week. Going back and forth, I was finally told one of the vets could do the operation. An estimate later, which was about $700 less than the other place. I agreed to schedule the operation day, but wanted to talk to the vet first to make sure all would go well and I know what I need to do. Only then, the next day, I was sent an e-mail saying the vet was not experienced. Even though, I appreciated the honesty, it was disappointing it took 3 weeks to get some care and a firm response from my own vet of 10 years. It has been an emotional ride and I expected better from my vet. Lost all my trust. They were disappointing when I needed them the most. Good if only for check up, nail clippings and shots, when the problems occur, they don't seem to be reliable. I expected better. Read Less

After about 10 years of taking my pets to Caring Hands Animal Hospital, I made the switch to FAH because my favorite Vet left the practice and it was getting increasingly difficult to get appointments.  My 19 year old cat has been diagnosed with kidney disease and Pancreatitis.  I've seen both Dr. Erwin and Dr. Proia, they were both great in recommending treatment options, and being available for questions.  I've always been able to get appointments with the vets or techs when I needed to be seen.  The staff is warm and welcoming.   I'm so happy to have found this hidden gem! My cat has had one UTI in the past when she was a kitten. 4 years later; after moving to a new State,  it came back. We came to Fairfax Animal Hospital, they injected her with fluids and gave me some antibiotics to take home. They also wanted me to get painkillers for her. I decided not to get them since i've never been prescribed them in the past at our original vet. Needless to say my bill was still just about $200 without it. Double the price it cost me with our other guys. The painkillers that day cost $13. After about 24 hours, I decided to come back and pick them up. This time for some reason the painkillers cost $24. When I questioned the front desk about it, they began to look nervous and had no idea how to help me. They claimed the vet that saw me that day wasn't in, so they wouldn't be able to find help with the pricing. The insane cost for a UTI and inconsistent product pricing was enough to scare me away. On top of it all, after 2 weeks of improvement my cat is sick again. This time I will go to a vet that specializes in cats only. These people seem like they play the diagnosis guessing game and then attempt to rack up your bill with procedures you don't need. Might be a great place for some, but not for me. Read Less

I've been taking my now geriatric cat here since he was a young dude. The only problem with this place is that there seems to be a fair amount of turnover, BUT every vet I've used has been great. My cat now has a lot of problems and the vets (Dr. Proia, most recently) are always very responsive to questions without forcing you to come in to the office each time, which is a huge bonus. Dr. Proia has recommended cheaper ways to get medications, as well. The facilities are clean, the staff is good, and I've never had any issue! Read Less

I hate to give a bad review on places but this one kind of deserves a bad review.  I'll start off by saying before they moved and before the practice changed but since they moved and vets changed it's gone down hill for me. I adopted a dog from Washington Human Society and she's a pit bull mix and when we first got her she was very aggressive but we trained Autumn and took her to classes and she does a lot better now the only issue I have is when we board her at this place it seems like they don't understand you have to approach my dog slowly and not fast and she doesn't do well in tight places and walking my dog in a parking lot isn't the greatest thing but that's beside the point.The point i'm making is, I had to stop taking her here because the staff basically became scared of her since she would always get aggressive for check up even though i had a mask over her face the vet still jumps. ad when she did stay over night there were times they would get nipped because they didn't take special care of her, it's sad because this place was so close to my house but they just weren't trained for this type of dog and type of background that the dog came from. We had a great experience bringing our dog to Fairfax Animal Hospital when he had broken tooth. We were of course worried, but the staff contacted us regularly, gave us everything we needed when we picked him up, and continued to follow-up with us after the procedure! It was fantastic and our dog hasn't had any issues since! Everyone was friendly, caring, and very understanding to concerns! And even worked with us around our busy schedules. We just had our first visit here with Dr. Goldfarb. Our experience was excellent from the time we walked in until the time we walked out. The receptionists were very upbeat and made our Goldendoodle feel at ease by petting her and being genuinely excited to see her. Dr. Goldfarb did a thorough exam and walked us through each step. Turns out our pup had an ear infection and he let us look inside her ears and then explained what he would be doing before he did it (ear pluck, ear clean, shot of antibiotics) and then explained how we could prevent this from happening in the future. Overall great experience and great people. Highly recommend. Read Less

Recently switched to Fairfax Animal Hospital after reading their positive reviews. I had Dr. Amster and Technician Muhammad B for our first visit. Both were very pleasant and kind towards my terrified pup who seems to know he is going to the vet without having ever stepped foot (paw) in the practice. I was blown away by Dr. Amster's honesty. It was refreshing to feel very informed about each and every service, the cost of the service, and under what circumstances she would recommend the service. My little pup had some sort of infection in his ear, which is now clearing up! Looking forward to continuing to take my pup there! Read Less

I would've given them a 5 star review 12 months ago. BUT, today is 6/6/16 and I just called for an emergency for my dog and they have nothing open for 26 hours and said there is only 1 doctor there. In the past, there have been multiple doctors working. Now I have to find a hospital I trust and hope I don't get ripped off. Seems like Fairfax is very understaffed. Just picked my dog up from a low-cost neuter appointment at FAH. Before the surgery I had a few questions about my dogs visit; the very courteous staff took a message for the doctor, who returned my call on his day off! I was very grateful that Dr. Goldfarb took time out of his day to return my call and patiently answer my questions. The front desk and technicians were very kind and compassionate during check in and discharge. Overall a wonderful experience! I'm happy we brought our pup here for his neuter! Read Less

Been going to FAH since I first got my dog 4 yrs ago, moved 2 times since I first started going here and pass several vet offices on the way now, but I fully trust the staff despite the staff changes over the years. They do a great job, love the new facility, location can be a little confusing if you have never been before with it at the back of the strip mall. Much brighter/cleaner feeling than first location. They alsp have a grassy area nearby with new location, just ask them about it, isn't clearly marked but I found out about it at an event they hosted. New owners are awesome, military veterans, very friendly. I see FAH reaching out more to community and hosting clinic tours and mini events at the clinic. Love that they participate in petly.com, seems like they really are part of the community. They've always been able to help with my pup, despite his dislike of the vet they seem patient with his hesitancy. Really trustworthy staff, very helpful. My dog doesn't get sick often but whenever he does it is the neverending *fill in the blank* - ear infection, stress colitis, allergies and they have always been able to give me options for treatment to save money or get me prescription meds if OTC doesn't work. I highly suggest using them. Great staff, great facility! Read Less

I do not understand the four and five star reviews.  I read through some, and they seemed too cookie-cutter and scripted.  Hmmm...The vet that saw my dog was not knowledgeable in the least.  He has a pre-existing condition, and the doctor lacked even the basics in how to treat him.  In the end, she tried to sell me on some inappropriate medication to boot.  When I contacted my dog's specialists about the worthiness of this medication, they both concurred that it was not necessary and amounted to nothing more than a convenient add-on to pad my bill.  Needless to say, I had it removed.The front office staff were unfriendy, unprofessional, and at times just plain rude.  I had to come back for a follow up and, on the way, got stuck in a major traffic jam on 95.  I called from the car to let them know I would be running a few minutes late.  When I got to the desk to check in, I was met with an unfavorable attitude about being late to the appointment.  Even with the best intentions, sometimes the traffic in this area will just get in the way.  It wasn't rush hour either.  Not the end of the world, people--cut some slack.Because of all the negative experiences here, I decided to reach out to the head of the practice.  He did return my call, listened, but then went into quite the unsympathetic stance, going so far as to make inaccurate ascertions.Dysfunctional with a capital "D", this is one of the absolute worst vet hospitals around. I recently took my dog in to Fairfax Animal Hospital for his annual wellness visit. As a new client, I found the online booking process to be very easy, and the office called the same day to confirm the appointment time and take down some initial info about my pet.Admittedly, the plaza is a bit depressing and can be hard to find from the main roadway, but the facility itself is clean and bright. The staff (I had Dr. Erwin in office and Mary Anne at reception) were very nice and took the time to listen to my concerns. Dr. Erwin was really good about giving me the facts about optional vaccinations, but did not push me or make me feel guilty about not opting for additional treatments. My dog never likes going to the vet, but the techs and Dr. were reassuring and apologetic, talking quietly to him the whole time, which helped my dog relax despite having to be poked and prodded all over. The receptionists were also helpful and cheerfully accepted my Yelp coupon, and my dog LOVED getting tons of pets and attention from all the staff.I also toured the boarding facilities. If you're used to kenneling your dog, this place might fit the bill (and at a very reasonable cost: ~$30/night or even less if you opt for a package rate!). But I found the boarding area a bit grim. There were two dogs in at the time, one of which was a cute little hound dog who looked very sad to be all alone with no toys. :( If you do opt to kennel here, please remember to pack bedding and toys for your dog! My little guy is a social butterfly who needs a more interactive boarding situation, so I will be exploring other options.All in all, a good practice with nice doctors and staff at reasonable rates! I have mixed feelings about this review. I started taking my dog here 4 years ago. My dog saw Dr. Gloor regularly and loved her. One of the things I liked about this facility was that the staff seemed to really like pets. Over the past year or so, my experiences here have been less pleasant. I like Dr. Goldfarb well enough. The older woman with the curly hair that works upfront needs an attitude adjustment and continuous lessons in customer service however. I'm sad to take my business elsewhere but would rather a place where both my pet and I had enjoyable experiences. Read Less

I have brought my GSD to this kennel  for 3 years or (including the old location down the street) more.  My dog is a rescue and very special!  He definitely has separation anxiety.  He hates this place, but he has hated any kennel he's ever been to, so I don't think it's an indication of mistreatment of anything negative on the part of the staff.  For a recent kennel stay, a vaccination and office visit were required.  My dog has an ongoing ear infection that I treat, and the vet discovered this and cleaned his ear.  I was charged for this service and I don't think I should've been.  If the vet would have contacted me I would've told them to leave his ear alone, I have medication and can clean it myself.  But I wasn't contacted, and I was charged as a result.  I had forgotten about this and not brought it to the attention of staff-  anytime I'm there it's for the kennel and my dog is a nut so there's not really a good time to discuss a bill.  Otherwise, I'm pleased with the service here, staff are nice and recognize my dog when I bring him in.  I'll continue to use this kennel. We only found out during the next visit when they tried to charge us again. 2. They charged us for 30 allergy pills when we only received 10 (luckily I counted and received a refund for the other 20). 3. We came to get some heartguard vitamins for our dog only to be told that they wouldn't sell them because he was due for a blood test (they'd never mentioned this before). Dr. Lui was very kind and listened to my cat's medical issues (diabetes and possible heart murmur) and knowing my cat needed a blood panel and glucose curve, was surprised at how inexpensive it was. Great first impression. Brought my kitten in for a first checkup since I got him from the breeder. Dr. Erwin decided to give the cat a booster vaccine plus rabies vaccine. The bill came out to $130 for the checkup and vaccines, which seemed reasonable. The staff were attentive. The first checkup was required before a neuter. The neuter surgery for a male cat, as quoted by the receptionist, was $250. Which is really close to highway robbery considering the nearby vets cost less than half that to get done. I'm coming back for regular checkups, but if you want to neuter your pet, consider other options. Read Less

Dr Ungerer saw my kitty Simba yesterday he is 14 and I want him to be comfortable in his geriatric years Dr. Ungerer was so understanding and answered all of my concerning questions. Very sad that I'm going to have to find a new vet after nearly 15 years.  I tried 2 weeks in a row to find a time to get my cat's nails trimmed but they are always booked or the latest they can do is 5:40.  For years they'd tell me to come in after 6 when it slowed down and they'd cut them any day that I called.  Now, I guess a nail trim doesn't make them much money so they could care less.  Seems to be all about the money in the last few years. But, the worst part is the attitude of the person I spoke to, Alyssa.  I told her I guess I was going to have to find another vet and she said "ok" and then hung up.  My neighbor used to go here for years and also had a very disappointing experience so I know it's not just me.  Obviously, they no longer care about their customers.  :( Read Less

I have been to Fairfax Animal Hospital several times with my lab mix Madison, and each time we have received excellent care and customer service! The staff are very friendly. Most of the staff remember Madison from her heartworm treatment, and always great her with treats. During a more recent visit, Madison was very nervous so the staff member brought her over lots of treats, pet her and gave her a scarf with some calming aroma to help her feel better. We've been bringing our 2 Yorkie mixes here since 2015, and have only had positive experiences. While older, they're both in good health but have encountered occasional problems like GI distress, muscle strains/sprains, skin lesions, and the rare injury/accident over the years. We have seen most of the doctors in the practice at one point or another, but Dr. Goldfarb is our favorite. He puts our dogs at ease, performs thorough exams, and is hands down the most experienced and knowledgeable vet we've entrusted our dogs to - and we tried out dozens of area vets before deciding on FHA. Earlier this year, our older pup strained his neck and was in severe pain, almost to the point of being immobile. We brought him in right away, and Dr. Goldfarb diagnosed him with a slipped disc - something that essentially can only be healed with time. However, he prescribed the perfect cocktail of meds (and strict instructions re: properly weening him off), and it was only a matter of days before our pup slowly began acting like himself again. When our other pup ingested a toxic amount of chocolate several years ago, FHA/Dr. Goldfarb successfully managed his post-emergency care (they referred us to VCA for initial emergency care) until he was back to normal. Being the overly cautious dog mom that I am, I tend to bring our dogs in for seemingly minor issues (better safe than sorry!), and ask a lot of questions; every doctor here has taken their time with our pups, and I've never felt rushed or like I was asking a stupid question. The vet techs are similarly awesome, and it's obvious that they genuinely care about each animal that comes through. At one point, there was a super pushy tech who tried to guilt/force us into running unnecessary tests for one of our dogs (without letting us know of the costs up front), but I haven't seen him as of our most recent visits - so assuming he's gone. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful, and have almost always gotten us in for a same or next day appointment when requested. Prices are reasonable, and I highly recommend signing up for the pet care rewards membership - we've already used our 2 free visits, and have racked up cash back for each visit; in our case, it has already paid for itself! The only thing I'd love to see is a discount on wellness exams for 2 or more dogs from the same family. Read Less

I'm gonna post it again So let me start off by saying I've been coming here for 2 years since I moved to the areaA few things to note from my observationsIf and when you come here, I, 100% guarantee that there will be an un satisfied person who is complaining about the way that the hospital conducts business .. the way they charge people, their practices etcI've seen them call the cops on upset ownersNext thing to note, every single person that works here is always in a fight or flight mode .. they dodge every single question with a cover their ass mentality.. literally the simplest questions you have.. they tip toe .. it can be extremely frustrating having your most basic questions go un answeredThey don't take amex.. businesses don't take amex because amex will always side with you during disputes.. more then likely amex took away this businesses ability to take amex because of their high unsatisfactory rateHaving said that, let me share my latest experience and I hope that it may prevent one of you from being effed by these guys In a nutshell These guys did a check up on my dog and on my invoice, they decided to list an office visit as "Dental Disease" I have full insurance for my dog, 100% coverage, given how insurance in this country is, I didn't want to wait 10 years for some insurance company to deny my dogs claim because of this small clear mishap When I returned to the vet office, this is where it gets good, the vet tech tries to bs me in saying that its not wrong, it's not a mistake and that insurance companies don't care .. as she visually sees my body language reject that bs explanation to me .. she literally runs off with my dog to vaccinate her because she knew that if my dog was given back to me, I'm walking out of there .. so good for this place to get overzealous employees 5 minutes later, the vet comes back with my stolen dog, the vet just goes straight into fight or flight mode, backing everything the vet tech said, not listening to a single thing I'm saying Here's where it gets good, I'm like, "if you're not fixing it, then I'm not coming back here because your reluctance to fix a single mistake," the vet obviously didn't care because she just got me for the vaccinations.  As I'm walking out, this poor sheeple of a vet, blurts out, "do you want to take this for your dogs stool sample?" I literally gave her the biggest look of disgust and replied, Lady did you just not hear me, I ain't coming back And she goes off in a bitchy mood, "fine" Guess what, it gets better ... As I check out and get a copy of my dogs records, because I'm not coming back here... The best part of this was the fact that the dumb vet tech wrote a one sided version of our conversation essentially just shit talking to me saying I demanded this and that.. was just handed over to me for to read :) I wrote a review documenting my experiences, the owner or business mgr, wanted to damage control because my review gained so much traction and was an obvious black eyeShe called me, the conversation was pretty much her apologizing for her staff and saying that they're right and I'm sol Well I thanked her for the call and told her, I'm not buying it and you can do better in which she promised me she would do... and the fact that your vet tech stole my dog to get your money is disgusting .. and the kick in the nuts was the vet who remarkably asked if I still wanted a stool sample So here we are a couple of weeks later, I got a call back from the business mgr and I turned out to be right.. they edited the invoice to what it should be and I was told that the vet and the vet tech were dealt with accordingly but couldn't go into further because its a personnel issue.. whether its true or not is immaterial .. but I made sure to ask her, are you ok with that tech stealing my dog and then talking crap about me ? In which it was completely denounced and apologized for again ... altho it didnt stop her from repeatedly and condescendingly tell me that its common knowledge to put disease on people's invoice in the vet industrythese guys asked yelp to remove my review, in which they did, but guess what.. It's still up on google and facebook ... So in a nutshell, the vet and vet tech are giant scumbags trying to get your money and are so indoctrinated into their routine of exploiting your love for your pet that they have big issues in listening .. the business manager did what she could to do the damage and I'm satisfied with the end result but watch out for your pet, question their methods, and don't let them steal your dog Read Less

Update: I had a very fruitful and encouraging discussion with one of the owners and I feel confident some of the issues I identified will be addressed. Edited my initial review to reflect a very positive response from the owners. I am hoping to be able to increase my rating again in the future. The doctors, techs, and reception staff are WONDERFUL. So why three stars? Because of the way I perceived staff interaction with management.  I have been with this practice since 2010. The staff have always felt like family and they treat my pet like one of their own. Your staff work hard and they do a tremendous job under sometimes challenging circumstances. They deserve your appreciation. Dr. Goldfarb built this practice based on providing phenomenal care to pets and treating his staff well. He succeeded because of good relationships. I am encouraged that these relationships will continue to improve under the new management following my discussion with one of the owners.  The owners saw my previous post and took note, to their credit. Changed my previous 5 star review to 0 star. Have been going there for 10 years for all my pets. I took my cat there when I noticed some eye discoloring. They said it was allergies. I took her again later because I seemed to get worse. I get it they are not specialized, they referred to me a specialist in Vienna. Not holding them reliable. There, found out she has a tumor in her eye that increased eventually. After meds, re-checks within a month, the only solution now is to take the eye out. Because it costs me $3K and the place is far, I was suggested to call my vet to see if they could operate. I called them. They put me on hold couple of times, didn't return calls after they took my number etc. During these time, I was informed the surgery is a must by the specialist. I tried my vet again. Finally after 3 whole weeks, I contacted and asked if they were able to do the surgery, I was told they didn't know if the vet could do that and asked me to call next week. Going back and forth, I was finally told one of the vets could do the operation. An estimate later, which was about $700 less than the other place. I agreed to schedule the operation day, but wanted to talk to the vet first to make sure all would go well and I know what I need to do. Only then, the next day, I was sent an e-mail saying the vet was not experienced. Even though, I appreciated the honesty, it was disappointing it took 3 weeks to get some care and a firm response from my own vet of 10 years. It has been an emotional ride and I expected better from my vet. Lost all my trust. They were disappointing when I needed them the most. After about 10 years of taking my pets to Caring Hands Animal Hospital, I made the switch to FAH because my favorite Vet left the practice and it was getting increasingly difficult to get appointments.  My 19 year old cat has been diagnosed with kidney disease and Pancreatitis.  I've seen both Dr. Erwin and Dr. Proia, they were both great in recommending treatment options, and being available for questions.  I've always been able to get appointments with the vets or techs when I needed to be seen.  The staff is warm and welcoming.   I'm so happy to have found this hidden gem! My cat has had one UTI in the past when she was a kitten. 4 years later; after moving to a new State,  it came back. We came to Fairfax Animal Hospital, they injected her with fluids and gave me some antibiotics to take home. They also wanted me to get painkillers for her. I decided not to get them since i've never been prescribed them in the past at our original vet. Needless to say my bill was still just about $200 without it. Double the price it cost me with our other guys. The painkillers that day cost $13. After about 24 hours, I decided to come back and pick them up. This time for some reason the painkillers cost $24. When I questioned the front desk about it, they began to look nervous and had no idea how to help me. They claimed the vet that saw me that day wasn't in, so they wouldn't be able to find help with the pricing. The insane cost for a UTI and inconsistent product pricing was enough to scare me away. On top of it all, after 2 weeks of improvement my cat is sick again. This time I will go to a vet that specializes in cats only. These people seem like they play the diagnosis guessing game and then attempt to rack up your bill with procedures you don't need. Might be a great place for some, but not for me. Read Less

I've been taking my now geriatric cat here since he was a young dude. The only problem with this place is that there seems to be a fair amount of turnover, BUT every vet I've used has been great. My cat now has a lot of problems and the vets (Dr. Proia, most recently) are always very responsive to questions without forcing you to come in to the office each time, which is a huge bonus. Dr. Proia has recommended cheaper ways to get medications, as well. The facilities are clean, the staff is good, and I've never had any issue! Read Less

I hate to give a bad review on places but this one kind of deserves a bad review.  I'll start off by saying before they moved and before the practice changed but since they moved and vets changed it's gone down hill for me. I adopted a dog from Washington Human Society and she's a pit bull mix and when we first got her she was very aggressive but we trained Autumn and took her to classes and she does a lot better now the only issue I have is when we board her at this place it seems like they don't understand you have to approach my dog slowly and not fast and she doesn't do well in tight places and walking my dog in a parking lot isn't the greatest thing but that's beside the point.The point i'm making is, I had to stop taking her here because the staff basically became scared of her since she would always get aggressive for check up even though i had a mask over her face the vet still jumps. ad when she did stay over night there were times they would get nipped because they didn't take special care of her, it's sad because this place was so close to my house but they just weren't trained for this type of dog and type of background that the dog came from. We just had our first visit here with Dr. Goldfarb. Our experience was excellent from the time we walked in until the time we walked out. The receptionists were very upbeat and made our Goldendoodle feel at ease by petting her and being genuinely excited to see her. Dr. Goldfarb did a thorough exam and walked us through each step. Turns out our pup had an ear infection and he let us look inside her ears and then explained what he would be doing before he did it (ear pluck, ear clean, shot of antibiotics) and then explained how we could prevent this from happening in the future. Recently switched to Fairfax Animal Hospital after reading their positive reviews. I had Dr. Amster and Technician Muhammad B for our first visit. Both were very pleasant and kind towards my terrified pup who seems to know he is going to the vet without having ever stepped foot (paw) in the practice. I was blown away by Dr. Amster's honesty. It was refreshing to feel very informed about each and every service, the cost of the service, and under what circumstances she would recommend the service. My little pup had some sort of infection in his ear, which is now clearing up! Looking forward to continuing to take my pup there! Read Less

I would've given them a 5 star review 12 months ago. BUT, today is 6/6/16 and I just called for an emergency for my dog and they have nothing open for 26 hours and said there is only 1 doctor there. In the past, there have been multiple doctors working. Now I have to find a hospital I trust and hope I don't get ripped off. Seems like Fairfax is very understaffed. Been going to FAH since I first got my dog 4 yrs ago, moved 2 times since I first started going here and pass several vet offices on the way now, but I fully trust the staff despite the staff changes over the years. They do a great job, love the new facility, location can be a little confusing if you have never been before with it at the back of the strip mall. Much brighter/cleaner feeling than first location. They alsp have a grassy area nearby with new location, just ask them about it, isn't clearly marked but I found out about it at an event they hosted. New owners are awesome, military veterans, very friendly. I see FAH reaching out more to community and hosting clinic tours and mini events at the clinic. Love that they participate in petly.com, seems like they really are part of the community. They've always been able to help with my pup, despite his dislike of the vet they seem patient with his hesitancy. Really trustworthy staff, very helpful. My dog doesn't get sick often but whenever he does it is the neverending *fill in the blank* - ear infection, stress colitis, allergies and they have always been able to give me options for treatment to save money or get me prescription meds if OTC doesn't work. I do not understand the four and five star reviews.  I read through some, and they seemed too cookie-cutter and scripted.  Hmmm...The vet that saw my dog was not knowledgeable in the least.  He has a pre-existing condition, and the doctor lacked even the basics in how to treat him.  In the end, she tried to sell me on some inappropriate medication to boot.  When I contacted my dog's specialists about the worthiness of this medication, they both concurred that it was not necessary and amounted to nothing more than a convenient add-on to pad my bill.  Needless to say, I had it removed.The front office staff were unfriendy, unprofessional, and at times just plain rude.  I had to come back for a follow up and, on the way, got stuck in a major traffic jam on 95.  I called from the car to let them know I would be running a few minutes late.  When I got to the desk to check in, I was met with an unfavorable attitude about being late to the appointment.  Even with the best intentions, sometimes the traffic in this area will just get in the way.  It wasn't rush hour either.  Not the end of the world, people--cut some slack.Because of all the negative experiences here, I decided to reach out to the head of the practice.  He did return my call, listened, but then went into quite the unsympathetic stance, going so far as to make inaccurate ascertions.Dysfunctional with a capital "D", this is one of the absolute worst vet hospitals around. I recently took my dog in to Fairfax Animal Hospital for his annual wellness visit. As a new client, I found the online booking process to be very easy, and the office called the same day to confirm the appointment time and take down some initial info about my pet.Admittedly, the plaza is a bit depressing and can be hard to find from the main roadway, but the facility itself is clean and bright. The staff (I had Dr. Erwin in office and Mary Anne at reception) were very nice and took the time to listen to my concerns. Dr. Erwin was really good about giving me the facts about optional vaccinations, but did not push me or make me feel guilty about not opting for additional treatments. My dog never likes going to the vet, but the techs and Dr. were reassuring and apologetic, talking quietly to him the whole time, which helped my dog relax despite having to be poked and prodded all over. The receptionists were also helpful and cheerfully accepted my Yelp coupon, and my dog LOVED getting tons of pets and attention from all the staff.I also toured the boarding facilities. If you're used to kenneling your dog, this place might fit the bill (and at a very reasonable cost: ~$30/night or even less if you opt for a package rate!). But I found the boarding area a bit grim. There were two dogs in at the time, one of which was a cute little hound dog who looked very sad to be all alone with no toys. :( If you do opt to kennel here, please remember to pack bedding and toys for your dog! My little guy is a social butterfly who needs a more interactive boarding situation, so I will be exploring other options.All in all, a good practice with nice doctors and staff at reasonable rates! I have mixed feelings about this review. I started taking my dog here 4 years ago. My dog saw Dr. Gloor regularly and loved her. One of the things I liked about this facility was that the staff seemed to really like pets. Over the past year or so, my experiences here have been less pleasant. I like Dr. Goldfarb well enough. The older woman with the curly hair that works upfront needs an attitude adjustment and continuous lessons in customer service however. I'm sad to take my business elsewhere but would rather a place where both my pet and I had enjoyable experiences. Read Less

I have brought my GSD to this kennel  for 3 years or (including the old location down the street) more.  My dog is a rescue and very special!  He definitely has separation anxiety.  He hates this place, but he has hated any kennel he's ever been to, so I don't think it's an indication of mistreatment of anything negative on the part of the staff.  For a recent kennel stay, a vaccination and office visit were required.  My dog has an ongoing ear infection that I treat, and the vet discovered this and cleaned his ear.  I was charged for this service and I don't think I should've been.  If the vet would have contacted me I would've told them to leave his ear alone, I have medication and can clean it myself.  But I wasn't contacted, and I was charged as a result.  I had forgotten about this and not brought it to the attention of staff-  anytime I'm there it's for the kennel and my dog is a nut so there's not really a good time to discuss a bill.  Otherwise, I'm pleased with the service here, staff are nice and recognize my dog when I bring him in.  I'll continue to use this kennel. Worst vet and after the. They charged us for 30 allergy pills when we only received 10 (luckily I counted and received a refund for the other 20). 3. We came to get some heartguard vitamins for our dog only to be told that they wouldn't sell them because he was due for a blood test (they'd never mentioned this before). Great first impression. Brought my kitten in for a first checkup since I got him from the breeder. Dr. Erwin decided to give the cat a booster vaccine plus rabies vaccine. The bill came out to $130 for the checkup and vaccines, which seemed reasonable. The staff were attentive. The first checkup was required before a neuter. The neuter surgery for a male cat, as quoted by the receptionist, was $250. Which is really close to highway robbery considering the nearby vets cost less than half that to get done. I'm coming back for regular checkups, but if you want to neuter your pet, consider other options. Read Less

I took my 2 dogs there for the first time in Dec. Dr. Lui was great - she took great care of Angus and Ginny. She even did an unscheduled follow up call just to check on Ginny's stitches. We boarded our pups there too and it worked out well. Make sure to ask for the military discounts. Read Less

Today at 11:59am So excited about your move Fairfax Animal Hospital the weekend of the 22nd of August 2014 to 5818 Unit D Seminary Road Falls Church, VA 22041. Need to provide more updates on your wonderful clinic and staff. Kally and Nancy such beautiful people, so kind and accommodating. Dr Ungerer saw my kitty Simba yesterday he is 14 and I want him to be comfortable in his geriatric years Dr. Ungerer was so understanding and answered all of my concerning questions. We left for a short time after going to too big of a vet. We prefer the small town feeling, more personal attention. We will never stray away again Fairfax Animal Hospital one of Washington Best!!
