I recently found myself responsible for getting my son's Boston Terrier neutered during his extended absence. There was no one I trusted more than Dr. Hickey and Short Pump Animal Hospital. My daughter and I have a long history with Short Pump and they have never disappointed us. They tested the dog thoroughly to make sure he would be fine and the surgery was very successful. I have taken my dogs to Short Pump Animal Hospital for 23 years. The first dog was a difficult male jack Russell. They worked well with him and he lived to 16 years old. Now I have a sweet female Jack Russell who is getting to be elderly. Drs Hickey and Morlino give excellent and kind care. They are warm and friendly to the 2 foots and four foots. They stay current on all advances in veterinary medicine. They are an AHA facility which is great. I drive a half hour to take my dog to them. I highly recommend them. Read Less

I am extremely pleased to give this review for Short Pump Animal Hospital and the staff there. To get to SPAH takes me a drive of an hour and 35 minutes and every minute and mile are totally worth it. My dog now has a doctor that can diagnose and treat her. My appointment was just a week ago and all ready the symptoms are subsiding and after years of doctors and treatments THIS is FANTASTIC!! The relief and appreciation I feel are off the charts. Dr. C. Morlino is knowledgeable and analytical in her approach. She takes the time to listen and somehow gets the puzzle pieces to all fit together. I am very impressed and glad to shout it to the world. I absolutely Love Dr Hickey and Dr. Morlino! They are both so knowledgeable, professional, passionate and caring! Dr. Hickey has so much experience to draw from.. he was able to diagnose my rescue puppy's strangles  just by looking at him... and helped him to a quick easy recovery with out a lot of expense! Great great great place. I've brought my dogs for 4 years and I've always been happy with the service. Everyone does a fantastic job, they're experienced, kind, genuine, and show true love and compassion for the animals and humans. At every visit I learn something new,  I know exactly what my dogs need, what's next, and what I need to do. I love when Dr.  Christine says "keep doing what you're doing, your dogs are great!". I'd never heard a vet say that before. It's so cool that she celebrates an animal's health. I realized that she and Dr. Hickey are the only vets I've seen who don't discuss the long list of bad things that *could* happen, they stick to what's relevant, what to watch for, and what to do. Simple. I also love that these folks haven't bought into the trend of "treat the human to a therapy session",  presumably so the pet owner feels extra special. For me that's just a waste of my time, the vet's, and the people waiting. The SPAH folks keep it straight up, they DO take time to answer all my questions, and it's a genuine experience. Short Pump Animal Hospital is awesome!!! Dr. Morlino is the best and most caring veterinarian that you will ever find, and the icing on the cake is the great staff! My 2 year old son had a fall down our house's front steps on the way to see Dr. Morlino, had a good cry, then fell hard asleep in the car. When I arrived, Virginia offered to have my dog taken to and from the car for his visit so I could stay in the car with my sleeping child I was perfectly confident that Dr. Morlino was taking excellent care of my 4-legged baby while I took care of my 2-legged baby! They were fantastic! All of the staff INCLUDING the vet were accessible, friendly and went above and beyond for me and my cat! The groomer is the only one in town that I've found that grooms cats and she did a great job! They even offered to take me on a tour of the facility before leaving my cat! I have been taking my 2 dogs there for almost 2 years and have always had a great experience. I've found the prices to be slightly higher than my previous vet, but not by much. Dr. Hickey genuinely cares about the animals. One of my dogs is old, a picky eater, and nearing the end of her life. I couldn't even begin to guess how many conversations I've had with Dr. Hickey about her health, with no charge. I used to take my dog here when I lived in Richmond, and I couldn't be happier with the care he received. The vets were knowledgable and incredibly helpful in educating me about my dog's illnesses and treatment, and my dog got so much love and attention during our visits that he would drag me to the front door in his excitement to see everyone! I went to Short Pump AH for an emergency and was turned away. I went down the street to Pouncey Tract and they took me right in. Not only that, they kept my costs down, knowing I didn't have a lot of money, and fixed an ongoing problem with allergies that had been misdiagnosed by Short Pump for years!
