I was very disappointed with the service of this vet clinic. I brought my cat in for blood work because she had been losing some weight and I also scheduled a dental cleaning. The blood work returned and I was told that everything was pretty normal and maybe it was just her teeth that were bothering her. After her dental, the Dr showed me an x-ray of her chin and told me he saw a tumor and recommended me to some expensive specialist. I didn't see anything on the X-ray that he was referring to but he's the professional. I decided to get a second opinion. After seeing another vet who did numerous X-rays at several different angles it was determined that there was no tumor whatsoever! He read her blood work and in fact her kidneys are strained but Armistead told me everything was normal. I had this second opinion Dr also look at her teeth and he took photos and pointed out several cavities and abscesses that Armistead didn't even mention to me after her dental cleaning. The amount of unnecessary worry about a tumor and the lack of information after her dental cleaning make me disgusted with this business. Please never take your pets there and if you do, get a second opinion on their diagnoses.

They were amazing. We had our girl go downhill fast-- cancer at 16 years old. It was difficult to diagnose and difficult to go through. The staff at Armistead were kind, patient, educational, understanding and really cared about our loved fur baby. They didn't do unnecessary tests. They adjusted and tried new things when we were doing wasn't working. And when, after 2 months of her quality of life going nowhere but down, they made us as comfortable as possible with the choice we inevitably had to make, and then they mourned with us. I can't recommend them enough!

Last week our family had the misfortune of dealing with one of our beloved animals coming down with parvo, in spite of the fact that she'd had her shots. Scared and heartbroken, We took our CoCo directly to dr Silky and her staff. They were kind, patient, compassionate and very swift in treating her. No mention of money was made while she and I were in such a fragile state, although they eventually set up a payment plan, as the treatment was very pricey, as I expected. It was very touch and go for 3 days, then I got the call from Doc Bev herself at 8pm letting me know that our precious coco had stood up on all four and wagged her tail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She came home after 4 days, good as new!!!!!! My final bill was LITERALLY a quarter of what I expected!!!!!!!!! Thank you Doc Bev and all of the others that were so kind to my girl and myself, and most importantly, thank you for saving this precious animal!!!!!!!!

We have used this vet routinely for 10 years, however, the last visit will be the last visit. Our dog was sick and we knew something was wrong -- did he eat mushroom fungus that popped up after all the rain? What was going on? After an hour wait, we convinced the Vet to take blood and she reluctantly provided that service. After an hour wait for the blood results, she recognized there was something going on -- the liver count was over 4000 and normal is 80 to 120. She said "I could start and IV because your dog is dehydrated, but he probably got into those mushrooms you mentioned and maybe you should Google where to go...we are closing soon and you need to go somewhere else". We did go somewhere else and got an x-ray to find out that it wasn't mushrooms but a huge mass on his liver that blocked passage to the stomach. They say that you learn about a person's character when they are pushed in a corner--when this professional was pressured to either help us and our pet or close up and go home on time -- her and the business she represents showed their true colors. Use them for their overpriced routine services but do not bother going if something is wrong with your pet.

They rest of the week seems to run more regularly.

When I first arrived at Ft. Monroe in 1998 I needed to find a veterinarian and a co-worker quickly referred me to Armistead - 18 years ago. In that time five fur-babies have passed through my life and now I have two more. Since then I have retired from the Army and relocated to almost the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. I pass countless other vets in the 25 miles from my house to Armistead, but continue to make the trip because of Drs. Adams and Bruce. One of the things I like best is the 'walk-in' versus appointment process. Sometimes you wait and sometimes you are in and out, but I know that we'll be seen and not have to wait days for an appointment. Yes, it is pricey, but not as pricey as some of the vets in Virginia Beach. Overall I've only had one bad experience, but things worked out in the long run. One alternative to the price is pet insurance. Regardless of whether you have pet insurance or not, my money (no pun intended) is still on Armistead.

So the reason I give them one star has nothing to do with the treatment of our pets. When it comes to that they should get 10 stars. They went above and beyond to take care of my sweet kitty when he got sick. The reason I am giving them one star is because when I took my kitty in to see them because he was sick I specifically told them I DO NOT have a lot of money so please do what you can to help him, but DO NOT do more than a few hundred because that is all I can afford. So what did they do....they ran the bill up to OVER $2600 and waited to tell me till after the fact so there was nothing I could do about it! I told them repeatedly during his treatment that I could not afford a huge vet bill and they still did it anyways. Then when I started to panic when I saw the bill they told me so politely that they would work with us and set up a payment plan. So i thought ok maybe they arent that horrible. NOPE! We got a few bills in the mail after that saying pay in full then we got a notice from their attorney saying they were going to come after us for the money and oh by the way the new total is $4800! What the hell! Yes they took great care of my pet and yes they are very friendly people, BUT AT WHAT POINT DOES SCREWING OVER THE PET PARENTS MEAN ANYTHING! I will never go back there again for this reason I can't trust them to keep their word. Now I am struggling even more than before because of them. So beware unless you have lots of money to spend on vet bills you may want to take your business some place else. It's a shame too. I was so impressed with the way they cared for my kitty I would have been a client for life if only they would have cared for my fiance and I the same way.

Also, like almost every vet I've met, the vets there tend to talk to me like I'm an idiot. I hate that. But as far as actually treating your dogs, they're amazing. I have used Armistead Vet for years. The staff is always friendly and the Vets are always nice and thorough. 5 years ago I had a cat pass away after 18 yrs and I was devastated. They took me in the back since they knew she was dying and saw how upset I was in the lobby. They let me stay with her while she passed as long as I needed to and then sent me a nice sympathy card. I was very pleased. Now I have a 3 yr old cat that goes every 6 wks for nail clippings and I usually get in and out. I would recommend this vet to a friend/relative.

Do not use this vet! As another poster said, I was charged $70 for my dog's annual distemper. The only reason I chose to get it there was because we were boarding her at their kennel at the last minute. After my dog came home sick I took her to her regular vet and they told me the cost of a distemper shot is only $17! I called Armistead vet and they danced around an answer and finally said they charge that much because they don't charge for an "office visit". Are you kidding me?! I will never go back there again and will be sure to tell all rescues I'm associated with, to make sure people know not to use this vet. All they're after is money! So sad.

This place all depends on the vet you get. Some are great and others are not. It is also possible you will be waiting for over an hour because they do not take appointments. However, I advise not to go here as this place is completely overpriced! I was charged 70 for annual distemper, 50 for rabies, and 33 for bordatella. I did not know the prices til after the fact. A week later I went to another vet for a second opinion and asked their prices out of curiosity. They charged 17, 15, 11 for the shots mentioned above. I payed 3-4 times more at Armistead. No idea why they would be so outrageously different. So I am officially changing vets, cause no annual shots should cost this much!

Initially when I called it seemed like it'd be perfect for us, given it's all of 4 minutes from our house. But I was wrong. As soon as I walked into the office I realized customer service skills were far below par. I wasn't greeted when I entered or told to sign in or asked what brought me in. It's more of a "DIY vet". Once we got into see the doctor she was extremely nice and knowledgeable which is always good. On the way out, I stopped at the counter to pay my bill but of course these receptionist had better things to do. One was concerned with locking all the doors at 450 because they close at 5. The other was filing papers completely ignoring the fact that I wanted her to take my money. And the last, on a personal phone call. I stood/sat there for nearly 10 minutes before being able to handle my business with them. Great doctors. Horrible, slow moving, unfriendly receptionists. So if you can deal with that, this is your vet.

I was very disappointed with the service of this vet clinic. I brought my cat in for blood work because she had been losing some weight and I also scheduled a dental cleaning. The blood work returned and I was told that everything was pretty normal and maybe it was just her teeth that were bothering her. After her dental, the Dr showed me an x-ray of her chin and told me he saw a tumor and recommended me to some expensive specialist. I didn't see anything on the X-ray that he was referring to but he's the professional. I decided to get a second opinion. After seeing another vet who did numerous X-rays at several different angles it was determined that there was no tumor whatsoever! He read her blood work and in fact her kidneys are strained but Armistead told me everything was normal. I had this second opinion Dr also look at her teeth and he took photos and pointed out several cavities and abscesses that Armistead didn't even mention to me after her dental cleaning. The amount of unnecessary worry about a tumor and the lack of information after her dental cleaning make me disgusted with this business. Please never take your pets there and if you do, get a second opinion on their diagnoses.

They were amazing. We had our girl go downhill fast-- cancer at 16 years old. It was difficult to diagnose and difficult to go through. The staff at Armistead were kind, patient, educational, understanding and really cared about our loved fur baby. They didn't do unnecessary tests. They adjusted and tried new things when we were doing wasn't working. And when, after 2 months of her quality of life going nowhere but down, they made us as comfortable as possible with the choice we inevitably had to make, and then they mourned with us. I can't recommend them enough!

Last week our family had the misfortune of dealing with one of our beloved animals coming down with parvo, in spite of the fact that she'd had her shots. Scared and heartbroken, We took our CoCo directly to dr Silky and her staff. They were kind, patient, compassionate and very swift in treating her. No mention of money was made while she and I were in such a fragile state, although they eventually set up a payment plan, as the treatment was very pricey, as I expected. It was very touch and go for 3 days, then I got the call from Doc Bev herself at 8pm letting me know that our precious coco had stood up on all four and wagged her tail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She came home after 4 days, good as new!!!!!! My final bill was LITERALLY a quarter of what I expected!!!!!!!!! Thank you Doc Bev and all of the others that were so kind to my girl and myself, and most importantly, thank you for saving this precious animal!!!!!!!!

We have used this vet routinely for 10 years, however, the last visit will be the last visit. Our dog was sick and we knew something was wrong -- did he eat mushroom fungus that popped up after all the rain? What was going on? After an hour wait, we convinced the Vet to take blood and she reluctantly provided that service. After an hour wait for the blood results, she recognized there was something going on -- the liver count was over 4000 and normal is 80 to 120. She said "I could start and IV because your dog is dehydrated, but he probably got into those mushrooms you mentioned and maybe you should Google where to go...we are closing soon and you need to go somewhere else". We did go somewhere else and got an x-ray to find out that it wasn't mushrooms but a huge mass on his liver that blocked passage to the stomach. They say that you learn about a person's character when they are pushed in a corner--when this professional was pressured to either help us and our pet or close up and go home on time -- her and the business she represents showed their true colors. Use them for their overpriced routine services but do not bother going if something is wrong with your pet.

They listen to us and respect our observations regarding our pets' behavior. The office staff is friendly, although sometimes a little chatty. Mondays are very busy, so plan to wait. They rest of the week seems to run more regularly.

When I first arrived at Ft. Monroe in 1998 I needed to find a veterinarian and a co-worker quickly referred me to Armistead - 18 years ago. In that time five fur-babies have passed through my life and now I have two more. Since then I have retired from the Army and relocated to almost the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. I pass countless other vets in the 25 miles from my house to Armistead, but continue to make the trip because of Drs. Adams and Bruce. One of the things I like best is the 'walk-in' versus appointment process. Sometimes you wait and sometimes you are in and out, but I know that we'll be seen and not have to wait days for an appointment. Yes, it is pricey, but not as pricey as some of the vets in Virginia Beach. Overall I've only had one bad experience, but things worked out in the long run. One alternative to the price is pet insurance. Regardless of whether you have pet insurance or not, my money (no pun intended) is still on Armistead.

So the reason I give them one star has nothing to do with the treatment of our pets. When it comes to that they should get 10 stars. They went above and beyond to take care of my sweet kitty when he got sick. The reason I am giving them one star is because when I took my kitty in to see them because he was sick I specifically told them I DO NOT have a lot of money so please do what you can to help him, but DO NOT do more than a few hundred because that is all I can afford. So what did they do....they ran the bill up to OVER $2600 and waited to tell me till after the fact so there was nothing I could do about it! I told them repeatedly during his treatment that I could not afford a huge vet bill and they still did it anyways. Then when I started to panic when I saw the bill they told me so politely that they would work with us and set up a payment plan. So i thought ok maybe they arent that horrible. NOPE! We got a few bills in the mail after that saying pay in full then we got a notice from their attorney saying they were going to come after us for the money and oh by the way the new total is $4800! What the hell! Yes they took great care of my pet and yes they are very friendly people, BUT AT WHAT POINT DOES SCREWING OVER THE PET PARENTS MEAN ANYTHING! I will never go back there again for this reason I can't trust them to keep their word. Now I am struggling even more than before because of them. So beware unless you have lots of money to spend on vet bills you may want to take your business some place else. It's a shame too. I was so impressed with the way they cared for my kitty I would have been a client for life if only they would have cared for my fiance and I the same way.

Also, like almost every vet I've met, the vets there tend to talk to me like I'm an idiot. I hate that. But as far as actually treating your dogs, they're amazing. I have used Armistead Vet for years. The staff is always friendly and the Vets are always nice and thorough. 5 years ago I had a cat pass away after 18 yrs and I was devastated. They took me in the back since they knew she was dying and saw how upset I was in the lobby. They let me stay with her while she passed as long as I needed to and then sent me a nice sympathy card. I was very pleased. Now I have a 3 yr old cat that goes every 6 wks for nail clippings and I usually get in and out. I would recommend this vet to a friend/relative.

Do not use this vet! As another poster said, I was charged $70 for my dog's annual distemper. The only reason I chose to get it there was because we were boarding her at their kennel at the last minute. After my dog came home sick I took her to her regular vet and they told me the cost of a distemper shot is only $17! I called Armistead vet and they danced around an answer and finally said they charge that much because they don't charge for an "office visit". Are you kidding me?! I will never go back there again and will be sure to tell all rescues I'm associated with, to make sure people know not to use this vet. All they're after is money! So sad.

This place all depends on the vet you get. Some are great and others are not. It is also possible you will be waiting for over an hour because they do not take appointments. However, I advise not to go here as this place is completely overpriced! I was charged 70 for annual distemper, 50 for rabies, and 33 for bordatella. I did not know the prices til after the fact. A week later I went to another vet for a second opinion and asked their prices out of curiosity. They charged 17, 15, 11 for the shots mentioned above. I payed 3-4 times more at Armistead. No idea why they would be so outrageously different. So I am officially changing vets, cause no annual shots should cost this much!

Initially when I called it seemed like it'd be perfect for us, given it's all of 4 minutes from our house. But I was wrong. As soon as I walked into the office I realized customer service skills were far below par. I wasn't greeted when I entered or told to sign in or asked what brought me in. It's more of a "DIY vet". Once we got into see the doctor she was extremely nice and knowledgeable which is always good. On the way out, I stopped at the counter to pay my bill but of course these receptionist had better things to do. One was concerned with locking all the doors at 450 because they close at 5. The other was filing papers completely ignoring the fact that I wanted her to take my money. And the last, on a personal phone call. I stood/sat there for nearly 10 minutes before being able to handle my business with them. Great doctors. Horrible, slow moving, unfriendly receptionists. So if you can deal with that, this is your vet.
