I've had good experiences with this office Kutzer is my vet she is great and caring. All my dogs go here and my parents took theirs until they passed. My grandparents bring their dog here as well. My Boston recently had to have a tooth removed that broke off the staff were great. The receptionist are always great I see a bad review of them but everyone can have an off day. Amanda up front is the best and Debbie the tech is such a pleasure as well. As far as price I've been to four vets and they are the most reasonable. I know one of the receptionist who highly recommends this vet and she isn't going to tell me they are great if they aren't just cause she works there. She sees what goes on behind the scenes and highly recommend this vet. They even called the next day to check on my Bella after her surgery I've had my dogs have procedures and two other vets and never got a phone call to check up. she got a certificate of bravery they allowed her to have a blanket from home and they even give your pet a comfort stuffed toy to have after surgery. They really care. It's clean and friendly and they dote on the pets that come in.   I've never boarded my dog and saw reviews but a couple negative reviews aren't enough to keep me away as the only people who tend to give them are the ones unhappy. I'm sure there would be many many more great ones if people actually came on here and did them. Don't be discouraged from a few old reviews that are one sided. I care about my dogs like they were my kids and I would never take them anywhere I wasn't extremely happy with! Read Less

I will not be bringing my cat back here. I took my 9 month old here for his first kitten check up and spent almost $300, come to find out from another place that he had his neuter done at, he had tapeworms. Freed Veterinary Hospital didn't even check for that. I feel this is highly unfair. I brought him in to have a full check up especially for the amount I paid not a half assed one. Read Less

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I have been taking my dog here for almost five years now, if not more. My father and I took a vacation to Florida and boarded our dog here for 10 days, the night after we picked up our dog she had explosive diarrhea. We took her back and found out she had a few parasites, one of them being Giardia which takes an average of 7 days to show symptoms. She has had problems with her digestive tract/bowels ever since and we have shelled out hundreds of dollars here treating her. The doctors take NO accountability and have done nothing to help. Dogs contract Giardia from drinking feces contaminated water, this was NOTHING but NEGLECT and irresponsibility on their part and they have done nothing to make it right. Read Less

I took my cat in for a routine allergy injection, as she was starting to show slight signs of respiratory stress due to the effects of the previous shot wearing off. They have to do an examination before due to us never being there before. Ok. They tell me they don't really see much of a breathing issue as they examine (I explained the cat had heavier breathing than usual, they couldn't really tell). They have to get the weight of the cat first things first, and I tell them that the cat does not react well to strangers and that I would recommend that I accompany and assist in getting the weight. They tell me "we'll be fine", completely ignoring anything I said, and they took my cat in the back to get the weight. 15 minutes later they bring the cat back out after failing to get the weight (I told them they would have a hard time handling). The 15 minutes they spent doing what ever it was they were doing to attempt to get the weight sent my cat in to a life threatening respiratory episode. They casually say "I see what you mean with the heavy breathing". My cat is literally gasping for air when they bring it back out (the cat was calm and not breathing like this before they took it back to get weighed against my advice). Full on mouth open for every breath, struggling to breath. The wack job substitute Dr. they had (the normal doctor was on vacation or something) then goes through a list of things we need to do to save my cats life. Injections, oxygen mask/tent. The whole nine yards. All while this nut job lady (the sub Dr.) casually joking that we could have come home to a dead cat (the cat was fine until they stressed it out trying to weight it, again, against my advice). Also making it a point every time she walked by the room that if the cat goes to sleep she probably wont be able to bring it back. A huge, I mean HUGE bill was racked up with the efforts to save the cats life. What should have been a routine visit charge, and a 30 something dollar charge for the routine allergy injection, turned in to a bill so large that I literally had to apply for a credit card at the check out desk to pay it. AVOID this place at all costs. I mean AT ALL COSTS in the most literal way possible. My cat did survive this place, and is doing great with the care of the Armistead Ave Vet I have absolutely no desire to speak or deal with anyone associated with this clinic at all. You were 110% responsible for nearly killing my cat (you had her in the back trying to weigh her for FIFTEEN MINUTES, AFTER I TOLD YOU I SHOULD COME BACK TO ASSIST, WHAT IN GODS NAME DID YOU DO TO MY CAT IN THOSE FIFTEEN MINUTES THAT YOU COULDN'T MANAGE TO GET A WEIGHT AND STRESS THE CAT SO BAD THAT IT HAD LIFELESS EYES AS IT GASPED FOR AIR????!) and putting me into debt to fix it. Please do not bother to make any more attempts to reach out to me. Reader be warned. Stay away from this place. And yes, you read that right. I told them I highly recommend that I should be the one to take her out of her carrier to weigh her because of her issues with strange people. The smug staff simply said "we'll be alright" and took her without my help. After fifteen minutes of them probably reaching in and trying to grab her from her carrier, and failing many times, they still never managed to get her weighed. The fifteen minutes they spent fighting with my cat to handle her sent her into a deadly breathing attack, and when they brought her back out made the casual statement about "we see what you meant by heavy breathing" as if trying to pretend they aren't the ones that just triggered this attack. I cannot fathom how someone could do that to a cat and look the owner in the eye and say "that'll be $600" Armistead Ave vet had no problems with my recommendation for me to handle the cat, and it's even in the notes so any time I have to visit later they already know. I am writing this review in hopes that no one else will ever have to experience what I did at this animal hospital. This was by far the worst vet experience I have ever had in my entire life. Having worked at a vet previously, the way this office is ran is beyond me. I took my 19 year old cat in on a Saturday. I was asked to be there at 10:30am. After waiting in the waiting room for over an hour with my 19 year old cat, I was finally pulled into a room. We were seen by Dr. Collins, who was no where near professional. After observing my cat, taking his temperature, we were diagnosed, had blood drawn for further testing, and sent home with pain meds and a new supplement. So the following Tuesday I called to see what the blood work said. I called at 10am, and was informed by the receptionist that the doctor wanted to see me, with my cat, at 2pm so they could give him fluids because "something is wrong with his kidneys". 4 anxiety ridden hours later I show up 15 minutes early with my cat as instructed. After waiting an hour in the waiting room I asked to be put into a room as more and more dogs were coming in and I could feel my cat beginning to really stress. After being moved into a room we waited ANOTHER hour. Finally, Dr. Collins comes into the room thumbing through records in his hand, he takes my cats record, literally slings it across the room onto the counter, mumbles a bunch of words under his breath, and walks out of the room and leaves me waiting for another 10 minutes. Finally he comes back in, starts thumbing through the record looking for the blood work. After he finds it, it's obvious that he is reading this blood work synopsis for the first time right there in front of me. He is stumbling through his words, bouncing all over the place. I worked at a vet and I can't keep up with what this man is saying. He then looks at me and says "Why did you bring your cat?". I'm sorry what? I informed him I was instructed to, to which he followed up with "Who told you to bring him? And why?" Again, I'm sorry but WHAT? He then informs me that he could have given me these results over the phone, and that they would not be giving my cat fluids that day because it was too late in the day. No kidding...I've only been there for almost 3 hours. He then tells me he is going to go "write me some scripts" and he will be back. He didn't tell me what they were for, what they're names were, what they would do, nothing. At this point I picked up my cat, walked out, and took him to Banfield. I would NEVER take my pet to this hospital. Dr. Collins is unprofessional at best, scatter brained, unclear, did I mention unprofessional? All in all I stressed my 19 year old cat out on what was one of his final days, all because of a lack of communication that was totally avoidable had the front office communicated clearly with the doctor, or vise versa. Save yourself the time and anxiety and take your pet anywhere else. I wish I would have. Read Less

First off- I was a "walk-in" customer, and was seen inside of 25 minutes- which I find acceptable. My cat, Tika, was well looked after and was returned to me in excellent spirits- which means that her interactions with the staff were positive. She even required a flea bath- something she hasn't had in years- so the fact that she was mellow and happy says a lot about her treatment. The doctor came out and spoke with me- she was polite and my cat was comfortable around her. Prices were very reasonable. This is my criteria for my good rating- cat was seen, cat wasn't freaked out, I felt comfortable. They lose a star because the reception staff acts like they have  no customer service training. They either have no training, or they simply don't like their job. Read Less

I recently moved from Chesapeake to Hampton and I needed to find a new vet. When I called this one the lady in the phone was nice and told me that they do walkin new patients. I came in on a Saturday. First off, the place didn't look good at all. The outside play area looked small and the dogs did not look happy. It just seemed really earie and sad. When I went up to the front desk to sign in, the young lady was nice and gave me my paperwork to fill out. But when I was done, I gave it to another receptionist who was really rude and kept talking to me like I was stupid. I told her exactly what my dog needed and that I could get my old vet to fax over my dogs records. She kept giving me this look just waiting for me to tell her exactly what my dog needed. I told her about 3 times that when I called my old vet yesterday, they told me she was up to date on all her shots but just needed an annual, a stool sample, and a heart work check. She kept looking at me like I was simple minded. She gave me their fax number but I just walked out. If they are going to treat me like that, how will they treat my dog? I would not recommend this place at all.. Read Less

Read Less

I love Dr. Kutzer!  The rest of the staff is a mix of sweet and not so sweet.  The prices are reasonable and over the service is worth recommending.   My only real complaint is the wait time to be seen.  It's always been at least 15 minutes which is somewhat stressful for me and my pup in a crowded waiting area full of other pets and people. The doctors here I could tell love what they do. Not only were they kind and loving to my dog but also super personable with me and my young kids as well. My dog was very old and I ended up having to put her down. I did not feel like they judged me for my decision at all. They were very empathetic and very helpful through the heart wrenching process. Some of the tests I had to run on my dog were about what I'd pay anywhere else. They recommended xrays and other tests but I decided to wait for the results from the blood test first. I could have paid a lot but the front desk staff was very helpful and informing me that I get to decide which tests or xrays should be done and not to just do everything the doctor recommends. I respect their honesty and love for people and their pets. Thank you to all the doctors and staff at Freed for helping me set my sweet old girl free.Read Less

I like the location of freed and the price for day boarding, aka dog daycare. With my three dogs I pay about $27 a day and they are there for almost ten hours! The only downside is the place looks older and not so inviting. The staff are kinda hit or miss from what I have seen and interacted with. I have taken my dogs 3 times and I will take them back again soon.-Rooster Read Less
