We have been serving Gloucester’s pets and owners for over 23 years. Our modern state of the art facility and highly trained staff of professionals are here to help you and your pet through sickness and through health. We provide any need your family pet has – Medical, Surgical, Behavioral, Boarding, Bathing, Prescription Medications and Diets. We provide 24 hour emergency care for your pet through our association with the Peninsula Emergency Veterinary Clinic at 757-874-8115 after our regular hours and weekends.
Dr. Bates is the staff doctor for Abingdon Animal Clinic and has been associated with our facility since 1986. In addition to Abingdon Animal Clinic, Dr. Bates also works with James City Veterinary Clinic in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Good care, but very expensive compared to other local caring vets. I found the prices can be as much as 3 times other local vets prices.

Very nice reception service. The Veterinary assistants truly care and are compassionate with all the animals I saw come and gowhile I was there. I was impressed with their professionalism and compassion. However, the estimate the veterinarian gave to care for my dog was over $2,000. I checked around and had the same procedure done, and had her spayed for $600, at a Veterinarian near West Point. My dog had her surgery and has already recovered and is back to normal. 5 stars for the other Veterinary Hospital.

We drive from Williamsburg just do Dr Bates and the amazing staff can take care of our puppies. He also had a location in Williamsburg, but the Abingdon clinic offered a free first visit when we adopted our pups at the Gloucester Humane Society, and we have been very pleased with them.

They have overseen the welfare of both our dog Tuck and cat Tigerlily flawlessly for years. During our time of crisis, they not only cared for our cat, but for us like family. Dr. Bates has a wonderful personality and is extremely friendly. He explains things thoroughly when your pet is in need of special care. I am grateful for the staff who are so loving toward your pet and handle them with gentleness. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my pet's medical needs. I have been taking my fur babies (dogs) to Abingdon Animal clinic for the last 20 yrs. Would not consider anywhere else. They may not be the most economical but you do get what you pay for. The staff is compassionate, professional, they take the time to listen to your concerns and when I have had to leave the pups there, I have never had any doubt that they were treated well in my absence. You know how you like to "know" who your mechanic or nurse is? At Abingdon Animal clinic, that person is Nancy. She has been a trusted person caring for my pups over the last 20 years. She has stopped me at the grocery store to inquire about them. It doesn't get better than that.

Very nice reception service. The Veterinary assistants truly care and are compassionate with all the animals I saw come and gowhile I was there. I was impressed with their professionalism and compassion. However, the estimate the veterinarian gave to care for my dog was over $2,000. The staff is compassionate, professional, they take the time to listen to your concerns and when I have had to leave the pups there, I have never had any doubt that they were treated well in my absence.
